Erik Jensen grew up in New Jersey. As a young person he loved monster movies. For a time he considered pursuing a career as a veterinarian. But when his friend Chris Walas moved out to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the movie FX business, Erik wasn't too far behind. In Hollywood Erik worked on several low budget horror movies honing his skills and making connections. It was a small community and led to working with Rob Bottin on some projects, including John Carpenter's 1982 remake "The Thing". Erik worked in both production and as an artist. Erik's work landed him a job on Dragonslayer at ILM where he would work on multiple projects for more than 20 years. HIs list of credits are amazing and include; Young Sherlock Holmes, Star Trek IV, Ghostbusters II, Star Wars: Episode 1, Space Cowboys, AI, Peter Pan, Star Wars: Episode III, and Jarhead. He also left ILM to work at Skellington on The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach. He later worked at TraumaFX building realistic task trainers for both human and K9 simulators for emergency medical training. Today Erik is retired and lives with his wife being an active grandparent. It was great fun talking with Erik about his life and incredible career (which is obvious as this is a long one).

For over 30 years, I've worked in the trenches of agency new business strategy, working alongside and consulting with hundreds of agencies, business coaches, and consultants — teaching them how to plant their flag of authority within the markets they serve, grow their audience, and fill their sales pipeline with a steady stream of right-fit clients so they can win new business. I founded Predictive ROI in 2009 and remain its CEO and co-owner, working alongside my business partner, Erik Jensen. I host the “Onward Nation” and “Sell with Authority” podcasts with listeners in over 140 countries and over 1,000 episodes. My agency new business and marketing insights have been featured in major media, and I'm the bestselling author of five books, including my latest entitled, “Sell With Authority.” Here's my hope for this solocast – to share an overall framework and principles for how you can architect your conversations with prospective clients so the discussions are super helpful to your prospects — and so the sessions feel like teaching. But — what you're actually doing is demonstrating your methodology in action. And when you do that with excellence — there will be a moment in your discussion where your prospect says something like, “Wait a minute…I see what you're doing here…and it's awesome!” It is absolutely possible to teach and sell simultaneously — and I'll show you how in this episode. A big dose of gratitude to our presenting sponsor for the podcast, Conduit Digital. By using their expertise in streamlining, upgrading & scaling your clients…they promise to reduce your risk so you can become the best digital agency in your market in 30 days. You can find Conduit and all their helpful insights and smarts here. During this Episode — you will learn how to: How the “10 Truths of what makes someone an authority” play a vital role in this process Why beginning with the end in mind is a must if you're going to architect the right conversation with a prospect Why teaching and selling simultaneously must begin with you “Eating your own dog food” How to demonstrate your methodology in action during the sales process How to “break the 4th wall” with your prospect in order to bring it all together Free Resources: Website: www.predictiveroi.com Visit our newly expanded Resource Library Join us in our free How to Fill Your Sales Pipeline Facebook Group Stephen's LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/stephenwoessner/ Order your free paperback or Kindle copy of our Book: Sell with Authority

Metalama This episode of The Modern .NET Show is supported, in part, by Metalama, reduce your boilerplate code by up to 15% with Metalama's C#-to-C# template engine and reduce your code complexity today! Show Notes Hi everyone, Just a quick thing before we start: this episode was recorded in the middle of summer, which meant that Erik needed to have his office window open. It's possible to hear the outside traffic throughout, but rest assured that our editing team have done what they can to reduce it's presence. It's not that noticable and shouldn't affect your enjoyment of the show, but I wanted to give you a heads-up. Also, do remember that there's a full transcription available at the show's website; so check that out, too. Anyway, let's get to it. "So, I think my mantra for creating things like these tools is, "should be easy to get started and there should be a like an easy happy path but then if you want to deep dive and do a lot of options or even a t4 templates you can also do that," but there should be a simple happy path with good error reporting if something fails."— Erik Jensen Welcome friends to The Modern .NET Show; the premier .NET podcast, focussing entirely on the knowledge, tools, and frameworks that all .NET developers should have in their toolbox. We are the go-to podcast for .NET developers worldwide, and I am your host: Jamie "GaProgMan" Taylor. In this episode, Erik Jensen joined us to talk about EF Core Power Tools, and how you can use his project to increase your productivity with EF Core-based databases, regardless of the database technology used; if it's supported by EF Core, then the Power Tools extension supports it to. "The one that's definitely used the most is what in a tool is referred to as reverse engineering. Where you point to an existing database, which can be some of the database types I mentioned previously. Like SQL Server, as a SQL database, Postgres, Oracle, MySQL, and Firebird. And then the tool asks you for a number of options, like you can specify what namespaces you're using, and where the files are laid in your project, and many, many other options. And then when you press OK at that point, as you said, Jamie, the tool generates a DB context and some classes that represent your tables with navigations between the tables based on discovery of foreign key relationships."— Erik Jensen We also briefly touched on the MSBuild.Sdk.SqlProj project and its goal of giving cross-platform .NET developers a way to both describe and build their ideal database schema in code. We also covered Erik's personal process for dealing with feature requests, and how developers can ensure that that are providing valueable feedback to open-source projects; a subject that will come up again soon with future guest Scott Harden. Anyway, without further ado, let's sit back, open up a terminal, type in `dotnet new podcast` and we'll dive into the core of Modern .NET. Before I tell you about today's expert on this episode of Sell With Authority, here's an update on our upcoming 2-day Intensive happening Wednesday and Thursday, November 6th and 7th. We'd love for you to join us as our free guest if you haven't RSVP'd yet! During these Zoom sessions, we'll break down Predictive's top strategies for helping agencies sell more of what they do. And when I say “break down” — I mean we'll pull back the curtain and give you full transparency so you can take the key insights and apply them directly to your agency. What's our goal for the November Intensive? Simple — to help you nurture leads with excellence, so you can sell more of what you do. Here's the magic — this Intensive is a private, client-only event — no selling, no pitching — just rock-solid awesome value. You'll be right there with us, learning and collaborating alongside other agency owners. If that sounds helpful, just shoot me an email with the word “ONWARD,” and I'll send you all the details, calendar invites, and private Zoom links you'll need. My email is stephen@predictiveroi.com. Now, more than ever, it's time to double down on nurturing your leads with excellence, so you can sell more of what you do. And that's exactly what we dive into today with Erik Jensen. Erik is Chief Strategy Officer and my business partner here at Predictive. He spends his days working side by side with agency owners and their teams. His work often begins by peeling back the layers to deeply understand the core business issues and challenges that agencies are solving for their right-fit clients. Here's the kicker — he explains why that work matters and how the strategies these agencies use deliver the results they're after. If you apply the insights and action steps Erik shares, you and your team will not only nurture leads with excellence, but you'll remove friction from your sales process — and ultimately sell more of what you do. His agency new business and marketing insights have been featured in major media, and he's the bestselling author of five books, including his latest entitled, “Sell With Authority.” At Predictive ROI — we believe most agencies and consultants go about sales and new business development in the least effective, most painful way possible — and that there's a better way. We call it the Sell with Authority Methodology. Here's the reality — we're entering the era of the authority. And while you may already be sick of the phrase “thought leader,” — the truth is — there aren't that many of them in our industry. Thought leaders don't write content anyone could claim. Thought leaders don't write about anything and everything. And thought leaders never compete on price. Thought leaders are afforded the highest level of confidence and trust because they have a depth of knowledge and a point of view that can't be denied or easily replicated. Thoughts leaders are also very clear on how and where they can help their clients. And their time is now. Building your authority position will help you grow a thriving, profitable business that can weather the constant change that seems to be our world's reality. How do you future-proof your shop? How do you attract your right-fit clients so they're proactively asking you how you can help them? How do you step away from the sea of other agencies and stand out? Building a defensible authority position is the solution for all that. And having a razor-sharp understanding of who you help (niche) and the business issues and challenges you help them solve (how you help) gets you down the path further faster. Today's episode is another installment in our desire to help you and your team help you accomplish the goal of further faster. This July marks the 30th anniversary of a legal decision in the Philippines that has reverberated far beyond those shores. In 1993, a young attorney named Antonio Oposa sued the Philippine Department of the Environment and Natural Resources and its secretary, “Jun” Factoran, to halt logging in the nation's vanishing old-growth forests. The remarkable aspect of the case is that he sued on behalf of generations as yet unborn. The key holding of Minors Oposa vs. Factoran is now known as the Oposa Doctrine. It grants current generations legal standing to bring actions on behalf of future generations with respect to environmental rights.Joining John and Tracie to talk about his famous case is lawyer and environmentalist Antonio Oposa. Also joining us is his longtime friend Erik Jensen, formerly with The Asia Foundation in Manila and now at Stanford Law School, who had a first-hand view of the event.
