We are playing a game by creating mini-marathons of movies featuring Star Wars actors in their non-Star Wars roles. With a lack of Star Wars news as of the time of the recording, we decide to try something new. Many Star Wars actors are known for roles outside of their performances in Star Wars. Other actors famous for their roles in Star Wars don't have as extensive a career. In this game, we are challenging ourselves to create mini-movie marathons by pulling three actors' names out of the proverbial hat and then picking one other movie each of those actors have appeared in. Some of the picks (we're looking at you Harrison Ford) resulted in easy choices. Other picks (hello, Joel Edgerton) are a bit more challenging. So, what do you think of our picks? Would you have picked different movies? Download or stream this episode and then let us know what you would have done by reaching out at one of our social media contacts listed below. Erik Childress and Steve Prokopy return after more than a week in Park City plus virtual screenings for this year's Sundance Film Festival and they are here to talk about 15 of their favorite films. They include a pair of body horror films about the terror of living happily ever after. There is also the horror of being a parent especially if you live next to the worst kind of Karen. Music plays a role in a lovely story about a washed-up folk singer and a lottery winner plus the heartbreaking tale of an artist taken away from us too quickly. There are more documentaries about the first deaf Oscar winner, teenagers who took on the environmental concerns of their community, the troubling legacy of To Catch a Predator and the consequences of delaying that colonoscopy. Audiences were treated to standout performances from Dylan O'Brien and the genuine discovery of the debut by a name to remember, Eva Victor. All that plus generational tales of Palestine and the building and rebuilding of America. 0:00 - Intro 5:44 – The Ugly Stepsister 11:03 – The Ballad of Wallis Island 16:16 – It's Never Over, Jeff Buckley 20:04 – Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore 26:26 – The Perfect Neighbor 35:25 – Predators 43:04 – Twinless 48:33 – If I Had Legs, I'd Kick You 54:01 – Andre is an Idiot 57:48 – All That's Left Of You 1:01:08 – Rebuilding 1:05:33 – Together 1:11:03 – Middletown 1:15:33 – Sorry, Baby 1:23:10 – Train Dreams 1:31:47 – More Sundance Mentions 1:34:29 - Outro

It's the end of our Schrader project - for a few weeks, at least - as we tackle the final film of his "Man In A Room" trilogy, 2022's MASTER GARDENER. Joining us is New Orleans-based writer Matthew Germenis! We're talking horticulture as both a restorative and reactionary practice, the film's ultimately tangential relationship to far-right movements, reformed Neo-Nazis, the legacy of plantation architecture, and more! Great ep! Don't forget to check out our technical chat with IRL New Orleans gardener Bob Martin, also in this feed! See you next week for a wrap-up of Schrader so far. In 2011 Universal had the absolute audacity to release a prequel to John's Carpenter's The Thing telling the story of the Norwegian camp we briefly saw in the original. With Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton in the lead it seems as if a genuinely solid attempt was made at recapturing the magic of the first before studio interference didn't do justice to the original practical special effects by papering them over with rushed CGI, diminished character moments and re-edited story beats. Straddling the line between outsider artist and full fledged Hollywood sellout, Will Janowitz has always found solace working both sides of the industry. With work ranging from Troma films to Ang Lee's “Taking Woodstock” to “The Sopranos,” he's made a career of always doing the unpredictable. This year two films he produced, and one he wrote, will make their festival run; “Bang Bang” starring Tim Blake Nelson and the later, “Train Dreams,” starring Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones directed by Clint Bently. On this episode he talks about his improvisational sweet spot and how it rests in the heart of danger and risk, brings us back to his beginnings at UNCSA and the reasons why that school didn't work so well for him, charts his own journey discovering his way into the craft, tells some hilarious and relatable audition stories, plus an eye opening one from the other side of the table, and much more. Back To One is the in-depth, no-nonsense, actors-on-acting podcast from Filmmaker Magazine. In each episode, host Peter Rinaldi invites one working actor to do a deep dive into their unique process, psychology, and approach to the craft. Follow Back To One on Instagram

Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all of your favorite fictional universes. The Merc with the Mouth and Logan have officially taken the title of highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, with Deadpool & Wolverine barely edging out 2019's Joker from that honor. As of this recording, the MCU romp has accumulated $1.14 billion. And while that's a tough ticket to beat, other late summer movies are tracking for big openings as well with Alien: Romulus debuting globally at more than $180 million and Tim Burton's sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, eyeing a potential $80 million opening - which would make it the biggest September opening of all time. Lucasfilm announced Tuesday that this year's new show The Acolyte will not receive a second season. The show was incredibly divisive among fans, though critically was well-received. Showrunner Leslye Headland had pitched ideas for a second season, but those will not come to fruition now. Sony Pictures released an extended look at their upcoming Spider-Man villain movie, Kraven the Hunter. The movie releases December 13 and has a star-studded cast featuring Russell Crowe and Ariana DeBose with Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the Titular role,. The new promo provided a slightly longer look at the Rhino, played by Alessandro Nivola. It's the story that dominated the Marvel fandom last week - when Beau DeMayo claimed his credit will be removed from season two because he shared fan art for Gay Pride in June. DeMayo cited this as quote “...the latest in a troubling pattern I suffered through while working on #XMen97 and #Blade.” Marvel quickly released a statement, responding to DeMayo's claim that it was his behavior, called “egregious” in the statement, which was the cause of his loss of credit as well as his termination. Sources following these statements claimed that an agreement had been reached regarding social media around X-Men'97 and DeMayo breached that contract. Other sources claim DeMayo's termination was due to sexual misconduct, though no internal reviews have surfaced. Camila Mendes, who starred in the CW series Riverdale, will play Teela in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films' live-action take on Masters of the Universe and will star opposite Nicholas Galitzine, who is playing the role of He-Man. Marvel Comics announced a Kahhori: Reshaper of Worlds one-shot that will bring the character from season two of What If? into comics. Writer-director David O. Russell has cast Nicolas Cage to star in the lead role for Madden, the Amazon MGM Studios drama about the life of NFL coaching and broadcasting legend John Madden. "Will & Grace" creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, with executive producer Ryan Murphy, are bringing Hulu a comedy about chosen family. Starring executive producers Nathan Lane and Matt Bomer as well as Nathan Lee Graham, and Linda Lavin, this series follows three gay best friends who, after an unexpected death, decide to embrace their golden years together in sun-soaked Palm Springs where the wealthiest one lives with his mother. Apple TV+ has renewed Dark Matter, starring Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly, for a second season. Derek Connolly, a franchise writer with a resume that includes the Jurassic World movies, has been tapped to write a live-action adaptation of the Sega video game Eternal Champions for Skydance. Puck Magazine's Matt Belloni is reporting that Mattel, who had been shopping a Barbie animated film, has entered talks with Illumination to produce it and Warner Brothers and Greta Gerwig are reportedly “not thrilled” about it. Amazon's Prime Video has canceled My Lady Jane, the period drama which combined romance and alternate-world fantasy. The cancellation comes about seven weeks after Prime Video released all eight episodes of the show's first and now only season.
It Ends With Us is a solid movie. It has some absolutely wonderful line deliveries and performances along with pretty solid casting choices. You may have to sit through a bit of, what some would call, filler to get to the better stuff unfortunately. Introduction: Minutes 0 to 6:30 We're glad we took last week off. I've been watching Dark Matter on Apple TV with Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly. Chandra watched Bridgerton season three and Late Night with the Devil. She also loved Kendrick Lamar's live concert. Royals: Minutes 6:30 to 25:15 We got a photo and announcement from Princess Kate last Friday. She said she would be at Trooping but we did not expect to really see her. We wonder who has been making the decisions at Kensington Palace. We have heard for weeks that we shouldn't expect to see Kate until the autumn and maybe not all year. Her appearance at Trooping was a big surprise, especially since she missed the rehearsal. We wonder why so many fake videos and photos were released of Kate the past few weeks. The narrative after Kate's appearance was typical. Allison Pearson at the Telegraph ran a fawning over the top piece about how amazing Kate was for showing up at Trooping. The subtitle of the piece was “When lesser mortals would have stayed at home, Catherine proved that the show goes on.” It looks like Kensington Palace has taken over the messaging again as it's very tone deaf. Kate is covering People Magazine this week. King Charles' biographer Catherine Mayer gave the quote that “However difficult, or otherwise, this has been for Kate, appearing was an act of service under the terms of the institution she is part of.” Meghan sent jam and dog biscuits to Harry's best friend Nacho Figueras. Nacho posted photos of his dog, I think it's a whippet, next to the biscuits and the jam, which was labeled 2/2. Meghan was just sending a gift to a friend, it's not like she was doing it to overshadow Kate. Instead there was an article in the Daily Beast with a source who said “You just have to ask yourself, who would set out to ruin a cancer-sufferer's day? It is absolutely pathetic.” It's likely Meghan sent that jam days before anyone knew Kate would go to Trooping. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about the royals. We saw Carole and Michael Middleton at Royal Ascot. This was surprising, because there were stories as of late last week about how they didn't even pay the insolvency firm that helped them restructure and sell Party Pieces. Kate did not go to Royal Ascot and she also didn't go to the big Order of the Garter investiture ceremony earlier this week. She let everyone know that she would not be at those ceremonies. She's expected to be at Wimbledon in early July. Comments of the Week: Minutes 25:15 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from sevenblue on the post about Kendrick Lamar's live concert on Amazon prime.Kendrick has been making hip hop history. My comment of the week is from lanne on the post about the details of Justin Timberlake's DUI arrest. Thanks for listening bitches!
On the one hand in this episode, we've got a comic book movie that should in theory have launched further films. 2022's Morbius was designed to follow Venom into Sony's universe of Spider-Man spin-off characters. Yet so keen was the studio to join it up to the ongoing Spider-Man films, that problems ensued. And Jared Leto, in the lead role, was going method again. The Gift, the directorial debut of Joel Edgerton, was originally called Weirdo. He designed it to be a slim film, that he knew would be up against some tough competition at the box office. Yet he had quite a special film up his sleeve... — EXCLUSIVE NordVPN Deal ➼ https://nordvpn.com/filmstories Try it risk-free now with a 30-day money-back guarantee! Learn more about your ad choices. Join Alex and guest host Dr. Lee Golembiewski as they discuss the harrowing true story of a young gay man enduring conversion therapy in the US South in Boy Erased (2018). The film stars Lucas Hedges as Jared, playing a version of Garrard Conley, who wrote a memoir of the same name in 2016, detailing his journey through conversion therapy in the early 2000s. The film also stars Russell Crowe as his pastor father, who ultimately made the decision to send Jared to the harmful Christian ministry, Nicole Kidman, as his mother, who makes a startling transformation during the film, and Joel Edgerton, who plays the ministry's lead "counselor" — Edgerton also directed and assisted in adapting the book into a screenplay. They explore the therapy's practices, religion and spirituality, acceptance, and harm done by these kinds of programs, that to this day, still exist in many parts of the US and the world, because of the view that anything different in sexuality and gender from the norm of cisheteronormativity is aberrant and must be corrected through spiritual healing. While the filmmaking is rough around the edges, the message and themes are powerful ones from a psychological perspective! Sean Comer and Mark Radulich present our The Great Gatsby 2013 Movie Review! The Great Gatsby is a 2013 American historical romantic drama film based on the 1925 novel of the same name by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The film was co-written and directed by Baz Luhrmann and stars an ensemble cast consisting of Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, Amitabh Bachchan, and Elizabeth Debicki. Filming took place from September to December 2011 in Australia, with a $105 million net production budget. The film follows the life and times of millionaire Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio) and his neighbor Nick Carraway (Maguire) who recounts his interactions with Gatsby amid the riotous parties of the Jazz Age on Long Island in New York.A polarizing film among critics, The Great Gatsby received both praise and criticism for its visual style, direction, screenplay, performances, soundtrack, and its interpretation of the source material. Audiences responded more positively, and Fitzgerald's granddaughter praised the film, stating "Scott would have been proud." As of 2023, it is Luhrmann's highest-grossing film, grossing over $353 million worldwide. At the 86th Academy Awards, the film won in both of its nominated categories: Best Production Design and Best Costume Design.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsoFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76

Welcome back to Not A Bomb podcast! This is the show where we go back and re-examine some of the biggest bombs in cinematic history and see if they deserve a second chance. On this episode, we keep the sci-fi training rolling as we discuss 2016's Midnight Special. This film highlights why the sci-fi genre can be so enthralling and is one of our favorite genres to discuss. Even though critics seemed to adore this little movie, Midnight Special didn't get much attention from the general public when it released in theaters. Trust us, Midnight Special has amazing worldbuilding, interesting characters, thrilling action set pieces, oscar caliber performances, and so much more. WARNING…if you are interested in the film, and you should be, just know that we discuss the ending and it's possible meanings. Midnight Special is directed by Jeff Nichols and stars Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Durst, Adam Driver, Jaeden Martell, and Sam Shepard. Happy New Year! With just two shows until 600, The Empire podcast crashes back into your feeds this week. Well, two thirds of it does because Chris is on holiday, leaving Helen and James to hold down the fort. And by that we mean have a cosy fireside discussion about all the fantasy books they devoured over Christmas, along with assorted stories of New Year's Eve shenanigans. But none of that matters because we have the one and only JA Bayona on this week's show, the director stopping by to talk about his brilliant (and very likely to be Oscar-winning) film, Society Of The Snow. Plus Joel Edgerton joins us to explain what happens when the cast is crew in The Boys In The Boat.Plus Helen and James pull their reviewing caps on and watch Sofia Coppola's Priscilla, Blumhouse's haunted swimming pool feature Night Swim, and kinder transport drama One Life.
"The Boys In The Boat" is a biographical sports drama directed by George Clooney, based on the 2013 book of the same name by Daniel James Brown. Actors Callum Turner & Joel Edgerton were kind enough to speak with Will Mavity about their work on the film, while screenwriter Mark L. Smith spoke with Daniel Howat.
