The best part of Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young but always getting fourth billing, Neil Young, continues heading right into the ditch with his sixth studio album. Recorded in 1973 but released in 1975, Tonight's the Night finds Neil in full on grief and mourning following the deaths of Crazy Horse guitarist, Danny Whiten, and friend/roadie Bruce Berry. The songs were written and recorded in the few months following those tragic events. It is both a bummer and beautiful. Let's talk Neil Young, Tonight's the Night!

Roll another podcast for the road, youngsters! Tonight's The Night is the album and baby is it a good one. Russ says it's about searching. The critic's say grief. There's a fly in the studio that drive's Luke crazy from minute one. We talk about Danny Whitten some more, as well as Bruce Berry (Not to be confused with his cousin, Marvin Berry). Mike brings up the looseness of the record. Luke loves Albuquerque. Is that how you spell that? I think it is. Russ over analyzes some grunts Neil does. Nils Lofgren is out of this world good. Ben Keith rips our hearts to shreds. Tonight's The Night, indeed. We're very happy to be a part of the Pantheon Podcast family. This week, Andrew and Dan learn that the 1970s was an incredibly horny time in America. Things were so horny that we had to import sex symbols from the UK just to satiate our completely debauched, sex-crazed minds. In 1976, Rod Stewart took on that burden and delivered a song that, in retrospect, is actually pretty damn gross and possibly a crime. Yikes!
Tonight's the night, Degenerates! We have plans! Or….. someone does… Dan tells the harrowing tale of a late night grocery store encounter for the ages. We give our take on the Kawhi Leonard situation. We basically don't want Kawhi to be Kevin Durant. It's loud and rowdy cast ya'll. Get down with us. Bill and Brian welcome WXPN music director and podcaster (soundcloud.com/ddmusicpodcast) to discuss the final chapter of Neil Young's so-called "ditch trilogy," Tonight's the Night (1975, Reprise). Still reeling from the drug related deaths of Crazy Horse guitarist Danny Whitten and roadie Bruce Berry, Neil Young cast off the folk and country tinged sound he was known for with Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young and his own chart topping album Harvest in favor of a more raw rock and roll sound. Dan talks about discovering the depth of Young's music through a friend before diving into his entire catalog (including the Geffen years!) during his time at college. Brian, Bill, and Dan then discuss how "raw" might be describing the audio quality instead of the emotions on the album, camping, Nils Lofgren's excellent guitar (and piano), which Neil Young song should never be covered by anyone, what alcohol the band was drinking for the sessions (it was tequila), which Neil albums we love the most (other than this one), and much more as we make our way through the album track by track!

For weeks we have seen the chess master, Theo, carefully planning and making small moves, but Tonight's The Night for some big moves. The question is who will be left on the board when the evening is over? Did his gambit with Barbara and Bruce go as planned? Did he really count on Bruce giving that answer? Oh so much to discuss! Sometimes you want it so bad that nothing can stop you. Not even God herself can stand in your way.
We watched House Party 5 and we learned a lot about how to throw a raging house party in which only one actual misfortune happens. For the first time in LIW history we had to re-do an episode. We recorded 45 minutes of material that mysteriously vanished so we had to restart. It pissed us off but we managed. We also have a new phrase to use on the show: toilet porn. This movie was apparently a comedy. It was rated R but it felt more like a D-Com with a thousand times more 'fucks'. Also, if you have Kid and Play on the front cover, don't just have them in a post-credit sequence. This movie also reversed the races and it was confusing. But interestingly enough if you reversed the genders in this movie, there is a brutal rape scene on a dance floor. Oh, plus we all developed a crush on Tristin Mays.
