In this post-event follow-up, Marco Ciappelli reconnects from Florence with Rob Black and brings in Anthony D'Alton for a deep-dive into something we all talk about but rarely define clearly: so-called soft skills — or, as we prefer to call them… human skills. From storytelling to structured exercises, team communication to burnout prevention, this episode explores how communication, collaboration, and trust aren't just “nice to have” in cybersecurity — they're critical, measurable capabilities. Rob and Anthony share their experience designing real-world training environments where people — not just tools — are the difference-makers in effective incident response and security leadership.Whether you're a CISO, a SOC leader, or just tired of seeing tech get all the credit while humans carry the weight, this is a practical, honest conversation about building better teams — and redefining what really matters in cybersecurity today. If you still think “soft skills” are soft… you haven't been paying attention.⸻Keywords: Cybersecurity, Infosecurity Europe 2025, Soft Skills, Human Skills, Cyber Resilience, Cyber Training, Security Leadership, Incident Response, Teamwork, Storytelling in Cyber, Marco Ciappelli, Rob Black, Anthony Dalton, On Location, ITSPmagazine, Communication Skills, Cyber Crisis Simulation, RangeForce, Trust in Teams, Post Event Podcast, Security Culture___________ResourcesLearn more and catch more stories from Infosecurity Europe 2025 London coverage: https://www.itspmagazine.com/infosec25Catch all of our event coverage: https://www.itspmagazine.com/technology-and-cybersecurity-conference-coverageWant to tell your Brand Story Briefing as part of our event coverage? When 46-year-old high school teacher Bonnie Woodward vanished from Alton, Illinois in June 2010, her family knew something was wrong. She was responsible, dedicated, and not the type to just walk away. What began as a missing person case quickly unraveled into a disturbing web of manipulation, teen rebellion, and a calculated act of violence. With rising secularization in large urban centers of Western Europe during the 18th century, it would take a concerted effort by the traditional rabbinical establishment to formulate an appropriate response towards the growing trend of secularization. Rav Rafael Cohen of Hamburg (1722-1803), was a Polish rabbi who was appointed rabbi in 1776, of the three united communities of Hamburg, Alton and Wandsbek, collectively known by its acronym AHU. Facing a new reality where secularization was emerging as a reality within the Jewish community, Rav Rafael confronted in its various forms. The story of how he strengthened rabbinical authority in the face of an onslaught against this authority, and his many confrontations with a variety of manifestations of the new secularist trends in his city and across Western Europe, made his responses a prototype for the emerging Orthodoxy of the coming centuries. On the week's episode of Three Ravens we're mining out the black gold of history and folklore of Staffordshire - a county with some pretty dark parts, and some very silly ones, too.We start off discussing the tradition of Rogationtide, a week-long celebration that would have started today, which basically involved smacking the ghosts out of your village, all before we sally forth to Staffordshire! We begin with some pretty cool bits of history, including the Black Country industry of chain-making and its relation to the Chained Oak of Alton, the mythical slaughter that gave Lichfield its name, and the rather lofty 'Old Man of Mow,' all before Martin tries to excite us with pretty meagre fare, before pulling out a military-themed pudding for this week's County Dish.Next, we get elbow-deep in folklore, from the doings of Jacobean giant 'Big Wally' Parsons and the church-eating Dragon of Wednesbury to boggarts including Rawhead and Bloody Bones and Dumb Baw to so much else besides, all enhanced by some excerpts from Saturday's upcoming Local Legends interview with Jack Raven, the canny corvid behind the Staffordshire Folklore YouTube channel. Then it's on to the main event: Martin's telling of "The Mermaid of the Black Mere of Morridge" - a slightly murky legend about love, murder, and a mysterious pool that might just lead down the fairyland...We really hope you enjoy the episode, and will be back on Thursday with both a new Forgotten Melodies bonus episode about Villain Songs and a Patreon-exclusive episode of Three Ravens Film Club about 2001's Session 9, all before the full interview with Jack Raven comes out on Saturday! The Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon, too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?Learn more at www.threeravenspodcast.com, join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/threeravenspodcast, and find links to our social media channels here: https://linktr.ee/threeravenspodcast Hosted on Acast. In this episode, Cherise is joined by returning guests John Gentry, AIA, Partner and Co-founder, and Aimee O'Carroll, ARB, Partner and Co-founder of Go'C in Seattle, Washington. They discuss the new Alton Wines Tasting Room and Wine Garden in Walla Walla, Washington. You can see the project here as you listen along.Alton Wines is quietly tucked into a natural cove just outside Walla Walla, where wave-like hills and vineyards shape the land. The site—once considered “unfarmable” due to its position and soil—offered a rare opportunity: to build something that would not disrupt the landscape, but instead belong to it. As guests arrive, the architecture guides them southward along a vine-covered arbor made of a steel frame that leads directly to the heart of the experience: a tasting room and wine garden arranged across the site from east to west. What is a troubadour? In its simplest definition, it's a poet who puts verse to music. The focus is on the lyrical content and the music is there to serve the storyline. In present day vernacular, the term "troubadour" is usually replaced by the catch-all category "singer-songwriter." Some troubadours are simply singers, perhaps accompanied by a guitar, interpreting another poet's songs. While other troubadours are also poets, writing and singing their own lyrics. Regardless, a troubadour's job is to connect with the listener by bringing the song's story to life. And, after it's over, to make the listener want to hear it again and again on repeat. Because each listen reveals more of the message, it can take a thousand listens to truly know the troubadour's tale. We are Team Derringer (Laura, Alton, and Paul) of Derringer Discoveries. In this episode, we are joined by songwriter Marv Conan of Brooklyn, New York. When you listen, you will hear that Marv is proud to be from Brooklyn and not just from NYC; although, for his voiceover at the end, we somehow got him to say NYC. Marv Conan recently released a song called Judy Joan & Buffy that he wrote about three troubadours who each got their respective starts in the early 1960s, two from Greenwich Village in the U.S. and one arguably from Canada. Listen to the episode to learn more about the Canada controversy. As you will hear, these three troubadours helped Marv to make it through the 1960s after Marv was drafted into the U.S. Army. Marv listened to the troubadours on repeat, back in the day of vinyl records. Recently, he decided to write the song Judy Joan & Buffy to honor these three troubadours who meant so much to him in his youth. The three troubadours are Judy Collins, Joan Baez, and Buffy Sainte-Marie. Join Team Derringer as we talk with Marv and hear snippets of his song Judy Joan & Buffy sung by UK's Victoria BeeBee who toured with Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel. We also talk about the three troubadours while Marv picks two songs from each to remind us why Judy, Joan, and Buffy are legendary and worthy of re-discovery. Do you want to be a Featured Artist on Derringer Discoveries? You'll need 10,000+ monthly listeners on Spotify. We are back for another Episode of Past The Barb and we've got the full crew this week. We touch base on Bart's fundraising efforts for the Dick Hiley St Jude Bass Classic and some sad news from the bass fishing world that happened since we last recorded. But shortly after, we are right back to our usual shenanigans. The boys catch up on what's been going on in their lives, Bart has to go save a cat during the middle of the Podcast, and we bring back the segment "Notes on Your Phone".Then we bring on MLF BPT Pro Alton Jones Jr. The boys dive into Alton's life growing up in the Bass Fishing World and what it was like growing up on the road, what his experience was like during "The Split", and his involvement with GeeCrack and the JDM bait market. We end with bringing Alton along for the ride on another segment of "JDM Bait or Japanese Sex Toy".We then end the Pod with a little bit of Bassmaster Fantasy Fishing talk, and answer some PTB Fan questions.~ DONATE TO BART & PANGER'S ST JUDE FUNDRAISER ~LINK: https://fundraising.stjude.org/site/TR?px=3377842&fr_id=157183&pg=personal~ Past The Barb Social Media ~ Email Us Questions and Feedback: pastthebarbpodcast@gmail.comInstagram: @pastthebarbpodcastFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?... ~ Follow Us On Social Media ~ Adam Bartusek Instagram: @adambartusek Adam Bartusek Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/adambartbart... On July 10, 1994, in Houston, TX, four to six armed men forcibly entered a house that was being used as a base for selling crack cocaine. The intruders kicked down the door and immediately opened fire. Willie Williams and Clifford Tyler were shot while trying to flee but survived. Alton “Bud” Brown managed to escape unharmed but Charles Monroe was shot and succumbed to his injuries and died. Neither Williams nor Tyler were able to identity the shooter and since there was no physical evidence the case was closed. 12 years later, the case was re-opened with Ivery Dorsery as the primary suspect. Even though Ivery had several alibi witnesses who attested to his whereabouts the night of the crime and even though there was still no physical evidence tying anyone to the shooting, Ivery was charged and convicted with felony murder and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Ever walked into a dimly lit room certain that someone—or something—was staring right at you? A listener recounts his eerie trip to the notoriously haunted McPike Mansion in Alton, Illinois. Joined by a small group of scientifically inclined friends he descends into the pitch-black cellar, only to see an inexplicable silhouette hovering mere inches away from his fiancée. Adding to the tension, she feels goosebumps on just one side of her body. Coincidence? Infrared trick? Or a spirit who just wanted to say hello?
