Welcome to Geekscape’s newest gaming podcast, Xbox Game Passengers. Every other Wednesday, host Derek and a guest will dissect and discuss just one game available on Microsoft’s Game Pass service, which was chosen for them completely at random. Whether it’s a magical or a horrible experience, they’ll force themselves through it, share their thoughts, and let you know whether or not the game is worth your time! At the end of each episode, they’ll also randomly select the game for the following show. This episode, Mike returns to chat about one of his favourite series of all time, Gears of War. Specifically, they're playing Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, the impressive Xbox One remake that sadly (somehow) isn't Xbox One X Enhanced. The duo dish about their favourite moments, their history with the series, and why Derek has to play every game inverted. "Experience the game that launched one of the most celebrated sagas in entertainment with Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. The shooter that defined the first generation of HD gaming has been painstakingly remastered in 1080P and modernized for Xbox One, and is packed full of new content including five campaign chapters never released on Xbox. The story of "Gears of War" thrusts gamers into a deep and harrowing battle for survival against the Locust Horde, a nightmarish race of creatures that surface from the depths of the planet. Players live and breathe the role of Marcus Fenix. A disgraced former war hero, Marcus seeks personal redemption as he leads his fire team against an onslaught of merciless warriors from below." This episode, longtime Xbox fan Mike joins Derek to chat about Rare's quirky 2006 gardening / weird animal farming game, Viva Piñata. They also chat about the surprisingly funny animated series that briefly preceded the game, and how much they wishedthat the game would go mobile or at least get an Xbox One X Enhanced update... then a few weeks later it did, so now you can play it in 4K! "Attract and tame your favourite Piñatas. There are more than 60 species that roam wild on Piñata Island. Personalise everything from the grass at your feet to the hat on your Piñata's head. Welcome to Piñata Island, enjoy your stay!" We’ve had a blast making Xbox Game Passengers so far, and we really hope that you’re enjoying it too! Get Over Here! Thats right - Mortal Komat 11 is ready to satisfy all your fighting needs. All the news is being horded for E3, so don't blame us for a super efficient episode... The Game Play chart has finally bored Lee. Its finally happened. There is not much rejoicing to be done. Final Fantasy X and X-2 are not Xbox One X Enhanced but they are? Its all very confusing. We go through the best Game Pass games, Ubisoft donates money to Notre Dame and Stardew Valley is getting an update! On today's show, Marc talks about how they'd rather be playing Red Dead Redemption 2 than recording this podcast and that, if you aren't interested in what is one of the biggest games of the year, that's okay. In addition to all that, they review At Sundown and talk about some Valve games that recently got the Xbox One X Enhanced treatment, including Left 4 Dead and The Orange Box. Anyway, something-something hyperbolic and catatonic, cheers and enjoy the anime-zing(ly rocky) show. Anyway, that's it and that's all folks. If you're feeling extra generous, you can become a patron, donate a little something-something, or subscribe to show your support for the site, the plentiful podcasts, the various videos, the absurd art, and all of the other nonsense we make over here at Pixelated Sausage. Xbox One X Enhanced Games with Backward Compatibility are AMAZING. You can play a decade old game - originally meant for 640x480 or 720p resolution - and enjoy it in 4k resolution. Not upscaled. Listener feedback takes centerstage on this week's episode! Thanks to all who contributed! Topics discussed included what kinds of games we'd develop, longest we've ever played a game and much more! A roundtable discussion about Xbox One's awesome backwards compatibility was a topic as well. Not Fake Game News covered three stories, with Sony putting the chopping block on free PS3 and Vita games on PS Plus, Microsoft adding to their Xbox One X Enhanced library and Trumpster wanting to meet with game developers about violent video games. Game Shaming is less Warframe and more variety! Enjoy, and bookmark TheGamingMarathon.com!
Amazing how talking about some cardboard can help even three old dudes remember they used to be kids. Nintendo might be onto something. Sean played a bunch of games on the Xbox One X and tells Dave all about it while driving to work.Overall ThoughtsResults may vary. Always looked better, sometimes quite a bit (Gears4) sometimes less (Diablo3)Load times are most drastic, measurable improvement.I spent a lot of time downloading stuff this week. Trying to get the same games on X and S so I could flip inputs back and forth on 4K.I didn't get as much time on a 1080p as I would've liked this week. Most comparisons were on 4K.Enhanced by Xbox matters. Wish there was a splash screen when the game loaded. There's a value in the confidence of having the most power.Games that already looked good on Xbox look great - games that didn't look good before won't be saved with higher pixel count. You have plenty more to worry about now. HDR10, 10-bit color-capable TVs. Enhanced by X.https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/xbox-one/xbox-one-x-enhanced-list4K Comparisons. Enhanced by X vs Xbox One SVery few games released Enhancecd by X versions until November 2Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition. Noticeably weather and environmental effects like fog and lighting - but the old version looked okay and the new version doesn't blow your hair back. Not Enhanced by X: X vs SForza Motorsport 7: 30 seconds on X. 58 seconds on S.Jaggy edges in S. Shadows are way too dark, lost details. Smoother, more colours, and greater exploration of shadows on X. Particularly noticeable in the cockpit view. Some dropped frames in cockpit on S, none on X.Load Time Comparisons.Boot Times - nearly identicalGears 4. About 10 seconds faster on X (beginning of game)Shadow of War 1:30 to start playing on X; 2:00 on SAssassin's Creed was the sameForza Motorsport 7: 30 seconds on X. 58 seconds on S.Other considerations:Xbox One X pushes out a ton of heat out the back. Keep it ventilated. My TV doesn't have HDRMore Enhanced by Xbox X patches coming every day. Lots on Thursday.Titanfall 2, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Quantum Break, Need for Speed, Halo 5, Halo 3. More to come on We The Nerdy and future Xbox Drives.I have a couple games (DOOM, Titanfall 2) coming from the library for PS4 to some third party comparisons.Quantum Break is 150GB after the Xbox One X Enhanced update, loads slowly.Final Thoughts:Set your expectations appropriately. I wasn't blown away but when I was able to compare, as close to side-by-side as possible, I noticed a difference. Load times are significantly faster, in some cases, on X.Buy a bigger hard drive. These texture packs are MASSIVE.I wish Xbox was more in your face about the games that have been enhanced. I'm not always sure - especially for those outside of the US, does the table on xbox.com correlate with what I have access to? I don't think it does but I'm not sure one way or the other.Read Sean's Review in Progress at http://wethenerdy.com/xbox-one-x-review-in-progress/
