We have been watching the new CEO, Asha Sharma, very closely as she begins to rebrand the Xbox into what she thinks it should be, and with one of Xbox's flagship titles, Gears of War, releasing this year, we are hyped to see how Asha approaches this. En un mundo hecho mierda llamado Sera, donde la humanidad ya estaba al borde de reventar por sus propias guerras, salió del subsuelo la peor plaga imaginable: los Locust, enjambres de monstruos que parecían nacidos de las pesadillas más torcidas. Aquella carnicería fue el Día de la Emergencia, y desde ahí todo se fue al carajo. Entre ese caos aparece Marcus Fenix, un soldado con más cicatrices que paciencia, que arrancaba su historia en una celda por desobedecer órdenes. Lo liberan no por compasión, sino porque el mundo se está hundiendo y necesitan un cabrón que sepa matar sin preguntar. A su lado va Dom Santiago, hermano de guerra, tipo leal que aguanta todo con tal de seguir en pie. Juntos se unen al escuadrón Delta: el malparido fanfarrón Baird y el gigante carismático Cole Train, puro músculo y adrenalina. Su misión es un suicidio con nombre técnico: activar la Bomba de Masa Ligera para prenderle fuego a los túneles donde los Locust se arrastran como ratas infernales. El camino es una procesión de sangre: Boomers que revientan a cualquiera que se cruce, Berserkers ciegas que destrozan paredes como si fueran papel, y Corpsers descomunales que emergen del suelo para tragar hombres vivos. A punta de pólvora, sudor y malparidez logran llegar al clímax: un tren cargado con la bomba, custodiado por la mismísima pesadilla de Sera, el General RAAM. Ese bastardo, cubierto de krill asesinos, parecía invencible. Marcus, con la rabia de quien ya no tiene nada que perder, le planta cara en una batalla que es puro infierno en acero y sangre. Al final, RAAM cae, la bomba estalla, los túneles arden… y por un segundo parece que la humanidad respira. Pero todos saben que esa victoria es apenas un respiro: los Locust siguen ahí, esperando, y la guerra apenas empieza. Bienvenidos a otro podcast de "Aventura Sonora" aquí en TERRAESCRIBIENTE. En esta ocasión vamos a escuchar "ENGRANAJES DE GUERRA" Episodio Dorado de Terraescribiente. Engranajes de Guerra se desarrolla 14 años después de la aparición de los Locust y cuatro años después del encarcelamiento de Marcus Fenix. Las fuerzas de la COG idean una ofensiva de último momento para destruir a los Locust detonando la bomba de masa ligera en sus túneles. Marcus es reintegrado al ejército de la COG para complementar sus filas mermadas y se une a Dominic Santiago en el Escuadrón Delta en una misión para mapear la red de túneles Locust en preparación para el bombardeo. Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Jon Spaihts has joined Netflix's live-action adaptation of the popular video game “Gears of War,” marking another attempt to bring the franchise to the big screen. Spaihts, who is best known for his work on “Dune” and “Doctor Strange,” will adapt one of gaming's richest and most acclaimed video game sagas with over 40 million copies sold. The “Gears of War” franchise centers on a society divided and on the brink of collapse, facing total extinction by the monstrous Locust alien race. The ragtag Delta Squad, led by disgraced sergeant Marcus Fenix, is charged with leading humanity's last stand. Netflix's partnership with The Coalition aims to first adapt the game into a live-action feature film, followed by an adult animated series, with the potential for more stories to follow. Spaihts is a master storyteller with a talent for creating epic, science-fiction universes, and he truly loves “Gears of War,” according to The Coalition. Previous attempts to adapt the game have been unsuccessful. Universal hired F. Scott Frazier to write an adaptation in 2018, but no other moves were made on that project. With Netflix's hiring of Spaihts, “Gears of War” fans have much to look forward to given the screenwriter's wealth of experience adapting major genre IP. Source: Variety

La trama comienza 14 años después del día E, después de la activación del martillo del alba en Sera. Marcus Fénix, un prisionero de guerra de la CGO, es reintegrado en el ejército después de haber pasado cuatro años en prisión Máxima Seguridad de Jacinto por abandonar su puesto militar con el fin de hacer un vano intento por salvar a su padre, Adam Fenix. Dominic Santiago, amigo personal de Marcus, lo saca de la prisión informándole que Hoffman indultó a todo el que estaba en prisión para poder combatir las hordas Locust, y lo lleva con el Escuadrón Delta, conformado por Anthony Carmine, Dominic Santiago, Marcus Fenix y liderado por el teniente Minh Young Kim. El pelotón es ordenado por Víctor Hoffman a obtener el "resonador", un dispositivo que haría mapas de los túneles de locust para luego lanzar una bomba de masa ligera (una bomba muy poderosa desarrollada a partir de la imulsion), que destruirá todos los túneles Locusts. El pelotón Delta recupera el dispositivo, pero sufren múltiples bajas en el proceso entre ellas Anthony Carmine y el teniente Kim. En medio del caos, Fénix lleva a los soldados restantes a través de las ruinas del planeta Sera donde enfrentan a una Berserker, a una instalación minera donde la lucha del pelotón Delta y los Locust se vuelve muy intensa, y finalmente a las profundidades del planeta. El escuadrón Delta logra detonar el resonador, pero solo para descubrir poco después que el dispositivo no logra su objetivo. Afortunadamente, descubren un mapa más grande de la red que se origina de la antigua casa de Fénix, en concreto el laboratorio de su padre. Cuando llegan, Delta se encuentra con una gran resistencia Locust. Después de recoger los datos, el pelotón huye de la finca en un transportatropas blindado siendo perseguidos por un Brumak (en la versión PC se relata lo ocurrido en el viaje). Marcus y Dom atraviesan un tren el cual carga la bomba de masa ligera en la cual deben colocar los datos que tomaron en la casa Fénix para que sea efectivo el golpe con la bomba en la red de túneles, después de pasar varios Locust tienen un enfrentamiento con el general RAAM (el cual asesinó al Teniente Kim), en el momento de la lucha logran abatir con él y se cargan los datos para la activación de la bomba. Luego de esto Marcus y Dom son rescatados en un helicóptero que los esperaba con la ayuda del coronel Hoffman antes de que el tren se precipite desde un puente destruido y en Imulsion por debajo de la superficie. Completamente activada, la bomba de masa ligera explota en la red de túneles Locust. En la secuencia final del juego, Hoffman ofrece un discurso de la victoria por el colapso de los túneles, con lo cual la voz de la Reina Locust finaliza prometiendo que los Locust seguirán luchando y no se detendrán.
