Welcome to the Be It Till You See It podcast where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring. I'm Lesley Logan, Pilates instructor and fitness business coach. I've trained thousands of people around the world and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt. My friends, action brings clarity and it's the antidote to fear. Each week, my guest will bring bold, executable, intrinsic and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and Be It Till You See It. It's a practice, not a perfect. Let's get started.Lesley Logan 0:46 Hi, Be It babe. Hello, happy FYF. If you're new to the Be It pod, this is a quickie episode where we share wins that you sent in. We share a win of mine. We can see what qualifies as a win, and then we have a little mantra, and move on with our days. Tuesdays are interviews, Thursdays are recaps, and today is a Fuck Yeah Friday. Before I get into the wins, just highlighting that I'm recording these well in advance of the present, so they may not sound as topical as what might be going on. And that is okay, because we need a little win in our life, no matter what is going on, whether it's good or not, or whatever you deem it to be. Lesley Logan 1:23 So here we go. The first one up is Natalia. Natalia wrote, finally making some time to be here in Slack and enjoy being part of this wonderful community. I got some new in-person clients, and one who wants to do online privates with me. My TV appearances last week went super good, and I got a call from a National Women's Magazine. They want to interview me as a Pilates expert, so I'm going to be featured in the magazine. I had my terms and conditions checked and adjusted by a lawyer, finally, and I got my book contract. I still can't believe I'm writing my own book. Oh my gosh, Natalia, and congratulations, because at the time this is coming out, you've written your book. So way to go. And I love all these little wins. You're celebrating so many different little things, and sometimes we just celebrate just getting back into the habit of something as a win, you know, and not going so behind. I'm really tired of hearing people to speed up on themselves, and because all you're doing is delaying the ability for you to do the thing that you want to do. Instead, celebrate what you did, what you are doing. Focus on that, because that is how you move things forward. You can't change the past. Lesley Logan 2:19 Our next win is from Bianca. She's an agency member, and she wrote, my corporate event retreat went well this past weekend, and one of the guys in the group said, I can finally feel my spine after the last class. My corporate clients are now interested in becoming a private client and wants to get back to practicing Pilates. Well, Bianca, way to be amazing. Way to be so great that you gave this person the feeling of their spine back. I mean, that is impressive, my dear. And isn't that so cool we get to do and change people's lives? So I just absolutely love reading that and hearing that and celebrating that with you. Lesley Logan 2:51 All right, my win. So here's the deal, I am back. So I got back from my trip with my mom and sister, only to be 48 hours from when this drops to leaving for LA for a week. And to be honest, I actually haven't spent a week in LA since we moved. You know, I've spent a couple of days here, one day here, maybe three days, but never, I don't think I've ever spent seven days. And that's what I'm doing. And so what I wanted to celebrate is that I'm actually so ready for that trip. Everything is planned out. The schedule is there. There's no rushing around trying to get things ready. I am ready for this trip. My schedule is going to allow me to take care of my clients, take care of my members, and get ready for this photo shoot that will be next weekend. And by ready, I mean, that's a fitness photo shoot, so it's like exercises. It's for the sixth deck. And so it's less about appearance and more about stamina and strength. But I just want to say I'm ready and that's a win. That is a win. And so I just want to share that being ready can be a win, just like doing all the things to get yourself set up for something. You know, we tend to focus on all the things that didn't go the way we expected. But actually, even in all of that, the fact that bags are packed, outfits are ready, equipment is ready to go in the van when Brad drives, we are ready for this is a testament to not rushing around and trying to fit in too much, too fast, and being present and celebrating wins when we've had them. You know, it's not that everything is great all the time. It's fucking not. There's a lot of crap going on. There are days when you own your own business where they start off with shit hitting the fan, and then you pull on that thread and it just unravels the entire sweater. And then you're like, well, this is not what I fucking had planned today, but to even have that and on top of it, stick to what is the goal here? What are we trying to do? That I could go on this week long stint in LA and continue to ready myself for the shoot? That's a win. It's super, I'm super excited. I'm so grateful for my team. I'm so grateful for the desire of so many of you to have this deck. I can feel your energy around it which makes me excited to go and shoot it in the first place. Lesley Logan 5:03 All right, let's get you that mantra so you can get on with your fabulous weekend. And the mantra is I welcome the wisdom that comes with growing older. I welcome the wisdom that comes with growing older. I welcome the wisdom that comes to growing older. Are you welcoming that wisdom? I hope so. Don't fight it. You're, so much good stuff coming as we go from day to day, right? You're learning from all the things you experienced. Lesley Logan 5:28 Thank you so much for listening. Thank you for sending your wins. And we want more. So send them on in so we can celebrate you, because you will hear them probably on a day that you're like, nothing's going, right? So send them into the Be It Pod, and until next time, Be It Till You See It. Lesley Logan 5:42 That's all I got for this episode of the Be It Till You See It Podcast. One thing that would help both myself and future listeners is for you to rate the show and leave a review and follow or subscribe for free wherever you listen to your podcast. This week Ken and Mark receive an Enochian invocation broadcast from an old numbers station, the Old Ones are calling. Our guide into the dream world this week is director and writer of The Lovecraft Investigations, Julian Simpson. This week we discuss: How to modernise the tales of Lovecraft, the genius of Sapphire and Steel, why Numbers Stations are scary, Did Aleister Crowley meet Picasso, and much more. Joining me, dead but still dreaming is Mar(c)k Satyr Main theme by Simon Smerdon (Mothboy) Music bed by chriszabriskie.com Show Notes: Check out The Lovecraft Investigation on Apple here, and Spotify here. Check out Julian's Pleasant Green Universe shows via his site Fragments, Bad Memories, Fugue State, and Mythos 1, 2 and 3 Julian's other currently active show that features some characters from The Lovecraft Investigations ‘Aldrich Kemp' can be found via the BBC Limelight Series on Apple here, and Spotify here Julian Simpson Bio: I was recently emailed by someone complaining about how hard it is to find information about me and my work. I get this. It's not deliberate, but it's not deliberate either. There are probably ways to create a more accessible web presence, and to bring the various things I've worked on or been associated with into some kind of useful order. But that seems like quite a lot of work and I'm not wildly into doing lots of extra work. I really enjoy being a bit hidden and just getting on with my work. (For reference see Themis House in the upcoming “Who Is Aldrich Kemp?”, coming to your radios on February 18th, 2022.) That people have to do a bit of digging to find me suits me just fine. It's like a hazing process; the people who get through seem to be more interesting. So now you are here, this is what you might want to know: I am a London-based writer and director working in film, TV, and audio. In the past, I have worked, either as a writer or director or both, on Spooks (MI-5 if you're in the US), Hustle, Hotel Babylon, New Tricks, and Doctor Who. My TV work in the UK pretty much stopped dead in about 2016. This wasn't by design, but I wrote a TV pilot script that got a lot of attention in America and that has been where the majority of my work has been coming from since then. That work has been mostly writing and, because nothing has yet been produced (watch this space), the credits do not yet show up on my IMDb page and I am legally not allowed to talk about any of them. My official “work” website is at juliansimpson.uk. Many people have said they find this unhelpful. Those people might be missing the point. In or around 2019 I co-founded a storytelling/world-building company called Storypunk. That does not yet have a website but it will, soon, and in the meantime, we have made a sci-fi podcast series called TEMPORAL which is out to distributors as I type this (Feb 2022). I have also made a number of audio dramas, including the “Lovecraft Investigations” podcast series, details of most of which are on the Radio and Podcasts page and can be investigated in-depth on the Pleasant Green Universe wiki on TV Tropes and on my Wikipedia page. There isn't a veil of secrecy around what I do, but there is a veil of laziness draped over the promotion of it. If you want to find me, I'm on Twitter (@CartoonGravity), on Instagram (somewhat reluctantly) as @cartoon_gravity, and on e-mail at cartoongravity@hey.com. I also have a portfolio of photographs on Format. I'm repped in the UK by Sean Gascoine at United Agents, and in the US by Jeff Barry at Range Media Partners and Andrew Murphy at Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment. I live in London with my wife and daughter and two quite annoying cats. This site is a kind of public scrapbook of thoughts, ideas, and random nonsense. Now you know as much about me as I do. John Erwin recently appeared on Charisma News to talk about the success of his faith-based film Jesus Revolution, which has earned close to $40 million in revenue over its three weeks of release. In 2015, when he bought a magazine with the Jesus Revolution cover story, it felt like the late 60s, with a lot of division and despair. He believes that people are at a moment of desperation and that the key to the Jesus Revolution of the past was people becoming desperate enough to cry out to God for change. The conversation is centered around the recent release of the movie Jesus Revolution, which was a passion project for director Jon Erwin for many years. The movie was released on the heels of the Asbury Revival, which has sparked a hunger for more of God's presence in the culture. Erwin discusses the steps that he had to take to get the movie made; it was a miracle that a movie studio like Lionsgate allowed them to make a movie with the title “Jesus Revolution.” He also talks about how God can use disappointments for good, and how His timing is always perfect. He believes that God is writing a story that we may not be able to see, but it is perfect.See The Movie!https://jesusrevolution.movie/ TIMESTAMPS 0:00:04 Interview with John Erwin on the Success of Jesus Revolution Film0:02:39 Heading: "The Making of the Jesus Revolution Movie: How God Used Disappointments to Create a Miraculous Story"0:07:12 Heading: Reflections on the Asbury Revival and the Success of "The Chosen"0:08:40 Heading: The Impact of Jesus Revolution on Hollywood Studios and Faith Audiences0:18:05 Conversation with Jon Erwin: Achieving Success Through Long-Term Commitment and Consistency0:24:03 "Exploring the Opportunities of Christianity in the Digital Age"Support the showAlongTheWay Links - Join My Email List - JohnAlongTheWay@gmail.com - Become a Patreon https://www.patreon.com/AlongTheWay - More episodes and Social links for AlongTheWay - Watch episodes of My TV show RealLife & HopeToday- START YOUR OWN PODCAST JOURNEY!https://www.buzzsprout.com/?referrer_id=220590

My TV news watching has dropped to virtually zero. It seems most reporting is in reality opinion based on the few facts available. My prayer for this world is not improved by these opinion pieces; I have sufficient opinions of my own, often born of cynicism, political bias or grumpiness. Keeping as clear a conscience as possible and praying for God's glory to be revealed is challenging enough.
Crying is an emotional release that has so many mixed feelings surrounding it. Growing up, I was admonished for crying and that hasn't changed in adulthood. As a woman I'm often seen as too emotional for crying and I make people uncomfortable. When I look back on my life, it's so interesting to see who wasn't afraid to cry and who was. In this episode, I explore the cultural, gender, and generational impact on crying. Key Takeaways: [3:47] Being told it wasn't okay to cry as a child [6:23] Society telling boys not to cry and thinking girls are lesser for doing so [8:03] Crying should be normalized [10:12] My college boyfriends weren't afraid to cry [13:46] Crying a ton after Molly died and making people uncomfortable [15:23] Being admonished for crying [18:50] Learning I needed to not cry while my daughter does [22:23] Young girls being ridiculed for crying and being uncomfortable about it [27:53] Miriam Bialik and Nora Mcinerny's discussion on grief [29:14] Glennon Doyle and Elizabeth Gilbert's talk about terminal cancer [31:03] Karen Kenney's episode on crying [33:35] Kenny being okay to cry, but generational differences separate us [34:43] Being given permission to cry [36:21] Thinking back to how different people in my life viewed crying [38:07] Panicking about how time goes by so quickly [39:42] I cry a lot about what I've lost [41:29] The many emotions around crying and what I've stopped crying about [42:55] My kids being different around crying [44:02] $13,000 in scholarships for kids [46:36] World events are causing so many tears: guns, abortion, and war [49:18] Everyone is so different with crying [50:45] My journey of crying, expressing my emotions, and dissociating [53:16] How much do you cry? Many people tell me America is going to hell. But when I ask them how their own lives are going, they say pretty well. This discrepancy between how people feel about America's public life and their own private lives is wider today than it's been since the late 1960s. Then, our public life was marked by assassinations, riots, an escalating war in Vietnam, and the deeply flawed Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon. But our private lives featured love-ins, Woodstock, and the Beatles. (I know; I was there.)The latest Gallup poll show that just 17 percent of Americans are satisfied with the way things are going in the country. That's the lowest percent since Joe Biden became president – and it coincides with his lowest job approval rating, as well as a rock-bottom 18 percent congressional job approval, sagging economic confidence, and the expectation that inflation will rise in the coming months. But wait. At the same time we're so down on America, our satisfaction with our own lives has ticked up to 85%. That's just five points shy of the January 2020 record-high point. Take a look:Why such a huge gap between public and private now? It's easy to understand why we're so dissatisfied with the way things are going in America. The news from the mainstream media is unrelentingly bad — and those negatives are amplified by an angry, nasty (and often paranoid) social media. We've endured more than two years of a deathly pandemic, with all its accompanying confusions and fears. Inflation is high. Politics is meaner and more partisan. An astonishingly large portion of the country seems to have turned Trumpish. And last year's high expectations for helpful measures from Biden and the Democrats have been dashed by Manchin, Sinema, and senate Republicans. But given this, how can we be so satisfied with the way things are going in our personal lives? Plenty of us remain hugely stressed – essential workers, parents of young kids who aren't able to get childcare, poor people who can't afford the rent, those of us who have gotten horribly sick or lost loved ones during the pandemic. Yet the pandemic has also allowed almost half of us to work from home, which has proven to be a huge boon -- giving us, on average, a full extra hour each day, far more flexibility in how we use our time, and escape the daily agonies of commuter traffic. While I'd rather teach in person, I far prefer to attend all tiresome meetings on Zoom rather than in bland conference rooms. We're also spending less money on stuff, partly because we can't afford it but also because we can't get it Supply bottlenecks are forcing us to do without — and to simplify our lives as a result. My TV set is tiny by today's standards, my car is a dozen years old, and my dryer doesn't work half the time. But guess what? I can live without them. I'm exercising more, listening to more music, started to learn another language. We can't socialize as much — but this has forced us to be choosier about whom to spend our time with, allowing us to deepen those relationships. My wife and I are doing more together, just the two of us. I've seen more of my close friends and less of people I merely feel obliged to see. We also worry less about clothing, haircuts, makeup, and other ways we present ourselves to the world — because we're presenting less of ourselves and less often. Most days I look like a schlump. (To be honest, that's always been the case.)We eat out less and eat in more, enabling some of us to discover the joys of home cooking – both eating and preparing. (I'd forgotten how delicious homemade chicken soup with fresh vegetables can be.) We're spending less time visiting parents, children, and siblings who live far away, but we can keep up with them over Zoom (which in some ways has made life less complicated). This terrible period in public life, in other words, has also allowed more space for our personal lives. It's enabled us to slow down, simplify, do without lots of stuff, deepen relationships, and create more room for ourselves. Which in turn has allowed many of us to ask ourselves — perhaps for the first time in many years, if ever — what we want from the rest of our lives, and maybe even decide to get off the track we're on (just look at record quit rates).I'm aware that life is indubitably hard for many people. And I'm sick about what's happening to America — about its widening inequalities, racism, and attacks on our democracy. I'm determined to keep fighting for social justice. But at the same time, I'm discovering an enjoyment in my own life that feels somehow deeper and more authentic than it's ever been. I hope you are, too. This is a public episode. What we're thankful for '17 Each year at this time of year we do a show where we discuss what we are thankful for. There are the obvious things to be thankful for like our families, especially our wives who put up with our home theater obsessions. And of course we are thankful for you, the listener/reader of our show. So as is tradition over the last many Thanksgivings, on today's show we give you our list of consumer electronics things we are thankful for. For 2017: Ara's List: DirecTV Now (IPTV) - This is a follow on to last years Cord Cutter. DirecTV Now and all the other IPTV companies have made it easy to take your TV with you on the go. Plus you don't need to install any special hardware. Download some apps and you are good to go. My TV bill went from over $200 to $35! It's not perfect. I'm still waiting on a cloud based DVR and the quality is less than DirecTV but It's still pretty good! Movies Anywhere - It used to be that if I bought a disc and it only had a Ultraviolet digital code I couldn't watch it on my AppleTV. Then I added Vudu which allowed me to watch the movies but I had to use either iTunes or Vudu. Now with Movies Anywhere I can watch them all in one app! Falling Prices and Larger Screens - 85 inches for less than $4K?? Are you kidding me. This is a no brainer. Or if your room isn't big enough for an 85 inch TV how about 55 inch UHD with Dolby Vision for $500? Yes it's a good time to be alive! Netflix/Amazon/Hulu - When I was growing up there were three networks for TV and only about 20 hours of programming. Sure we used to read and visit with people but where's the fun in that? Now with the addition of streaming we get more content than we can watch. Throw in HBO, USA, AMC, and others competing for your limited free time and you can pretty much guarantee that one of these networks will create content that you will be interested in. Now I just need to learn how to get by on less sleep! DIY Audio - I am having a blast building speakers. The quality is quite good. Can you buy better speakers for much less hassle? Of course you can. But there is something really gratifying about building and listening to speakers you built. You can start out with a simple kit or design something that says something about you. Either way you'll have fun! And since these speakers will probably still be working long after you are gone, you can leave a little of you behind for your family to remember you by. Braden's List Mesh Wifi - We just moved into a new house and it's a bit older than our prior house. The prior house had ethernet run to every room. The current does not so we have to rely even more on wifi. Not sure what the walls are made of in this old house, concrete, titanium, your-wifi-no-workatonium, but wifi is terrible. Without mesh wifi like Google Wifi, we'd be without Internet in places where we really want it. 4K Televisions - There's the obvious reason we've talked about to love 4K TVs or Ultra High Definition itself, it pushed 3D straight out of our lives. But it has also helped to push down prices of all TVs across the board - first by pushing 1080p TV prices down, then by starting a vicious price war for 4k TVs that has included a bunch of new bargain manufacturers. Just like the early push in HDTV, the bargain brands may not survive, but for now they're really helping us all get 4K TV upgrades. Netflix (also Amazon, Hulu, HBO online, etc) - The classic joke about Cable used to be that we had 300 channels but nothing to watch. Not anymore. When was the last time you even channel surfed? You don't have to anymore. If there's nothing on the DVR, or nothing you're feeling into at that moment, you just pop open one of the streaming apps and see what's there. You'll probably find a movie you remember coming out that you never saw, or a new series someone recommended that you haven't started yet. There's always something on now. Automation devices - Yes. I had this on my list last year. But honestly with every smart device I add, it just keeps getting better. That's the beauty of DIY automation, you can add to it in small steps, piece by piece as you have time and resources to get it done. This year I joined the automated door lock club and it's awesome. The kids don't need house keys. Friends and family can get in without having to hide a key. It's great. Also added a smart doorbell. It's super annoying, but also really cool too. Home Depot - I really wanted to say Amazon, but after the year we had with them, I just couldn't get myself to do it. It is an amazing company. And I bought the most items from them to help us prepare our old home to be sold and get settled in the new one, including a faucet and a new TV (but not that TV just yet). But the place I visited second most to get everything for the move out and move in was Home Depot. So I'm thankful for Home Depot always having just what I needed, and when they didn't Amazon did.
Ultimate Home Theater in a Box for 2015 Each year we design a Home Theater setup that is considerably better than a typical home theater in a box. We have seen complete setups for less than $500 from manufacturers like Sony and Panasonic that quite frankly do not sound good. While our system costs more than a name brand HTIB your satisfaction will be dramatically more. Plus we include EVERYTHING you need to actually setup a home theater. Minimum components for our system are a HDTV, Blu-ray Player, Receiver, and 7.1 speakers. For this feature we choose components that we either have direct experience with or have experience with a similar model made by the same manufacturer. In years past we would set a maximum price but this year we are not doing that. We are defining a system that can had by anyone who is serious about home theater. These systems will look and sound great by anyone's definition! Braden: Samsung UN65J6200 65-Inch 1080p Smart LED TV (2015 Model) ($1198) Borrowed from the HDTV buying guide. My TV is a bit smaller than last year's Sharp 70-inch Aquos but it's also $400 cheaper. We've already talked about it, but this set combines great features with a really affordable price - even for Samsung. Its Smart TV technology allows you to access movies, games, streaming services, and other apps so you can easily get to your favorite media. Surf the web using the built-in Wi-Fi, or use the screen-mirroring feature to play your mobile content on the big screen and you can plug into the USB port to watch your own media. Great TV, great price, no brainer. Denon AVR-X3200W 7.2-Channel Full 4K Ultra HD A/V Receiver with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi ($999) Maybe it's cheating a bit, but I snagged a receiver from the buying guide as well. Because we all know Denon makes the best receivers...this one has everything I need and more. It's a bit more expensive than the Onkyo TX-NR636 from last year, but I had a little wiggle room with the less expensive TV, so we dropped that into the receiver. This bad boy is a 7.2 channel A/V receiver that packs 105W of power per channel. It has 3D and 4K Ultra HD/60Hz full rate pass-through with 4:4:4 color resolution, HDR, BT.2020. 8 HDMI 2.0a inputs (incl. 1 front) and 2 HDMI outputs with full HCDP 2.2 support. Of course, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. And let's not forget Dolby Atmos (up to 5.1.2), DTS:X ready (via firmware update). Instant content Airplay, Spotify Connect, Pandora, SiriusXM Internet Radio Internet Radio, DLNA, DSD,FLAC, ALAC and AIFF High Resolution streaming. And the new IP control capability with the HEOS Link turns any stereo system into a wireless zone (HEOS LINK sold separately). Hsu Research Hybrid 1 - 7.1 Package in Satin Black ($1449) Speaker prices went up a bit this year, sorry. Last year was the Klipsch RF-42 II Reference 7.1 system for $1299. This year it's the HSU Research system for $150 more. So I'm typically a Denon and a Klipsch fan-boy. Admittedly. Not ashamed. Denon made my list this year but Klipsch did not. Cuz it's all about the boom. A full 7.1 speaker system with a killer sub. You won't need you upgrade these speakers for a long time - if ever. Miscellaneous Logitech Harmony 700 Rechargeable Remote with Color Screen ($64) Last year was the Logitech Harmony 650 for $60. That remote is now up to $86. Although the 700 has been discontinued, you can still get it at a great price. Great remote, ties all your devices together, has hard buttons for everything you need to do, and barely even changes the total budget at all. It's a no brainer. And, unlike the 650, the 700 is rechargeable. No batteries to replace. Forget Blu-ray, they're commodity. Add $50 and pick up anything you want. Add about $100 for cables and a power strip and another $100 for the streaming box that suits your needs and you should be all set. Sit back and watch some HDTV. Summary Total cost, end to end, for a killer, big screen, 7.1 home theater: $3960 (ip from $3583 last year, but that didn't include a streaming box). Ara: LG Electronics 60LF6100 60-Inch 1080p LED Smart TV $865 Home Theater in a Box systems are typically about getting you an introductory setup and this TV is a perfect centerpiece for your theater. A 60 inch TV will allow for a more cinema like experience in a smaller family room. This HDTV has decent picture quality and good reliability numbers so buy with confidence! Sony BDPS3500 Blu-ray Player with Wi-Fi $70 In years past I went with Oppos but I no longer feel you need to spend $500 for a Blu-ray player if the main thing you are going to do is watch Blu-rays. The Oppo is well worth its price tag but only if you need the added features. The Sony streams video from all the big players and you can stream video from your Android device via Miracast. For those who don't have a hardwire connection near the TV the 3500 supports the MIMO protocol for improved speed and reliability. Yamaha RX-V677 7.2-channel Wi-Fi Network AV Receiver with AirPlay ($380) This is the same unit I selected last year only this year it's only $380! Easy setup and calibration, network features so you can stream music from your favorite service, great Yamaha sound, and Airplay for $380 make this an easy choice for my system (Again!). SVS Prime Satellite 7.1 $1,230 Speakers are the one place I spend a little more money on my system. It's because you can keep speakers forever so start out with something that's worth keeping forever! Being bookshelf speakers the Prime Satellite will be easy to place in your home. The set includes a 12 inch subwoofer rated down 24Hz which comes in a small 13 inch enclosure. Miscellaneous You will need a remote control to tie everything together. There are many options out there and rather than specify one, I'll just allocate $250 and let you choose between Harmony, Simple Control, or iRule. The last thing to consider are cables, power strips, and connectors. We will allocate an additional $200 for these items as well. Summary Last year my system came in at $4,480 plus tax and this year I spent $5 less than $3,000! Even at the lower cost you are still getting a high quality system that will last you for years to come. So much better than any HTIB system and you get a TV!
