The E3: Energy & Efficiency With Emily podcast is a fantastic addition to my rotation of podcasts. Hosted by Emily Mottram, this podcast offers a valuable perspective on all things building-related. Mottram brings on a diverse range of knowledgeable guests who have significantly expanded my understanding of building science, green building, and design. As someone interested in energy-efficient construction, I find this podcast to be incredibly informative and engaging.
One of the best aspects of The E3 podcast is the in-depth reviews that are often featured. For example, the review of S3E10 Vermont PGH provided a comprehensive analysis of a particular house, combining data with plans and pictures. This level of detail allows listeners to truly understand the intricacies and thought processes behind different projects. Additionally, it was fascinating to hear both the owner and architect discussing the project, offering unique insights from multiple perspectives.
Furthermore, Emily Mottram's strong understanding of building science is evident throughout each episode. She has a remarkable ability to explain complex concepts in a way that is accessible and easy to comprehend. Her expertise shines through in her discussions with guests, making for engaging conversations that provide valuable information to listeners. I appreciate having such a knowledgeable host guiding me through topics related to energy efficiency.
While The E3 podcast offers excellent content overall, one potential drawback is that it may not appeal as much to those less interested in the subject matter. The focus on energy-efficient construction might limit its audience reach compared to broader or more general podcasts. However, for individuals specifically interested in this field or looking to learn more about sustainable building practices, this podcast is an invaluable resource.
In conclusion, The E3: Energy & Efficiency With Emily podcast is a must-listen for anyone considering energy-efficient construction or wanting to expand their knowledge in this area. Emily Mottram's expertise shines through in each episode as she effortlessly discusses topics related to building science, green building techniques, and design. The in-depth reviews and insightful conversations with guests bring a unique perspective to the podcast, making it both informative and engaging for listeners. I highly recommend adding this podcast to your rotation if you're interested in energy efficiency and sustainable building practices.

Megan ThompsonLike many interior designers, Megan Thompson owns her design firm. She has a bachelor's degree in sustainable interior design from Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. Despite all the knowledge she gained in her education, she found implementing sustainability into her work frustrating. No single platform exists where all the information is easily accessible and saves you time on your projects. She decided to take matters into her own hands and created Interior Design greenList to make sustainable design easy to understand and implement, regardless of a designer's background or experience. At Interior Design greenList, Megan teaches designers about sustainability so they can navigate the industry, be ready for new baselines in industry standards, speak to industry partners with confidence, and become the go-to designer for sustainability in their area. https://idgreenlist.com/

He lives in a straw bale home he built with ecological features, including solar electric, solar hot water, composting toilet, and masonry wood heater/oven.https://www.deconstructionworks.com/ Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/deconstructionworksvtDeconstruction Works specializes in the salvage and reuse (green demolition) of houses, outbuildings, and commercial interiors in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Western Massachusetts. Contractors and homeowners often lament the waste of perfectly good materials heading to the Dumpster every day. If you have a project large (whole house or commercial interior) or small (kitchens, baths, additions), why not let Deconstruction Works quote for the recycling and reuse of those building materials?

Your life unfolds there. Babies come home from the hospital. Puppies are gated in the kitchen during housebreaking. 90th birthdays are celebrated in the garden. You watch stupid movies in the family room, work on jigsaw puzzles in a snow storm, get bad news. Countless dinners and coffees and nights in bed. Laundry. Sleepovers. Teenagers playing ping pong or Dungeons and Dragons. Band practice, book club, holiday parties and just being still. How will you arrange your space to make the most of all this? We have been there, and we can help you imagine it all. Most of our work consists of renovations and additions to existing housing stock in eastern Massachusetts. We prefer to work along with the client in the design process, which allows us to help the client realize their vision for their home and allows the client to participate fully in the process. We guide clients through the process of choosing their build team and ideally work closely with the contractor while construction is underway to minimize challenges and stress during that time. While we are primarily a residential design firm, we also consider the entire property, including inside and outside of the house. The living exterior informs the interior. The wall is a lens through which we perceive the world. Landscape design includes the hardscape and permanent structures of a site as well as the appropriate trees, shrubs and perennial beds. I am especially interested in the landscape during the dark and cold half of the year. https://demiosarchitects.com/

I began Hay Runner because for many of us, it is hard to separate what we do from who we are. What we do is make something from nothing and that is very hard to do, certainly hard to do well. Show Notes:Steve Baczekhttps://stevenbaczekarchitect.com/info/ Steven Baczek Architect is a nationally recognized architect in the design and development of custom residential structures. I am located in the Boston Massachusetts Metro Area. Whether your need is a new custom low energy Passive House (the most stringent set of building performance standards in the country), or a zero energy home, an addition or renovation to an existing home, or a complimentary carriage house, pool house, or outbuilding, your project receives the same level of professional inquiry, respect, and understanding. My design process extensively scrutinizes every aspect of the development of your project. I employ a process of clear, practical, informational leadership that is never short of an opinion, or sometimes brutal honesty. My ability to listen, and flexibility to then adapt to each client and their respective project places my services in high regard, and high desire.I have designed numerous projects across the spectrum of energy performance, comfort, and durability, to include many of the nation’s top energy conscious homes. While many state transparent labels of “green” or “sustainability” to their work, I provide good, sound design, of enduring value that includes sound environmental and energy conscious, “Truly Green” to mine. My commitment simply equates aesthetics and durability with performance and responsibility, an “integrated package”. My 28 years of architectural experience and knowledge coupled with an advanced understanding of building science founds my client’s pursuit for collaboration. My work is routinely found in numerous local and national media outlets to include Fine HomeBuilding, Journal of Light Construction, Green Building Advisor, and Environmental Building News. While I have and will do projects outside of the New England Area, my focus is on the Boston Metro Area, Cape Cod, and the Islands.
