In this heartfelt, full-circle session, Christine reconnects with Anneke—the very first person she coached on the podcast ten years ago. What unfolds is a deeply moving reflection on growth that isn't measured by external milestones, but by the quiet, powerful shifts that happen on a soul level. Anneke opens up about her journey through addiction recovery, burnout, grief, unexpected caregiving, and stepping into true self-love. Over the last decade, she's released people-pleasing, healed from codependency, and discovered what it means to care for herself without performance or guilt. This episode challenges the cultural obsession with checking boxes and invites you to redefine what a “successful” decade really looks like. If you've ever questioned your progress or minimized your own transformation, this conversation is a must-listen. Consider/Ask Yourself: Are you focused on external achievements while overlooking your inner growth? Do you struggle to give yourself credit for how far you've come? Have you been moving through a quiet season of healing or rebuilding that's hard to explain to others? What would it feel like to reclaim your creativity and joy without needing it to be productive? Key Insights and A-HAs: True transformation often happens in the unseen work of self-trust, boundaries, and healing. Asking “What about me?” is not selfish—it's sacred. Rest, creativity, and reflection are just as valid as action and ambition. We are not here to perform our lives—we are here to live them authentically. It's okay to have mixed feelings about the roles we step into, including caregiving or parenthood. How to Deepen the Work: Take a moment to reflect on the last ten years of your own life. What have you healed, endured, or learned? Release comparison. Shift your focus from goal-line success to soul-line growth. Create space for a joyful, unstructured creative practice—just for you. Allow yourself to ask: Who am I now? And what do I want moving forward? What happens when students combine creativity, community values, and real-world challenges? You get student-led initiatives like Empowering Entrepreneurs and ProFarmer, socially driven projects supported by Parent Link with promotions, and through Tiger Den, WAB's parent-run shop. Co-led by EJ and Morgan and run by a group of dedicated parent volunteers, Tiger Den opens weekly and hosts pop-up shops at school events. They sell WAB-branded apparel and merchandise as well as student-developed products that raise funds and awareness for community partners. EJ emphasized the idea to start this support emerged from Parent Link's vision to foster student engagement and social innovation by offering a pathway for students to raise awareness and funds for causes they care about. Tabea, from the Empowering Entrepreneurs Club, shared how they focus on sustainability by recycling old WAB PE kits into hair ties and bags, which are then sold at Tiger Den. Their partnership with Helping Hands supports single mothers while promoting eco-friendly practices. She highlighted that Tiger Den plays a crucial role in marketing and selling these recycled goods, helping the students bring their ideas to life and raise funds. Berat and Anneke co-lead ProFarmer, a long-standing student initiative that brings Fair Trade eggs and mystery produce bags from FROOT Community Farm to WAB families. They manage sourcing, logistics, and marketing, including building their own website, to ensure ethical, sustainable food sources are available on campus. For these students, the work isn't hypothetical. As Berat explained, the skills he's developing, logistics, marketing, leadership, and ethical decision-making, directly connect to his IB Business Management course. Tabea and Anneke spoke to the personal growth and teamwork involved, and how collaborating on real issues has deepened their learning. Looking ahead, EJ shared that Tiger Den will continue to focus on strengthening community connections and supporting student-led initiatives. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all parent volunteers whose time, energy, and enthusiasm make this possible each week. To hear the full conversation, be sure to listen to the podcast. Anneke Beerten was one of the top mountain bikers in the world for a decade, starting her career as a two-time BMX world champion before dominating the 4 cross circuit with three world titles. She's gone through many career transitions over the years, embracing Enduro and Crankworx to earn even more accolades. In early 2020, just after finishing her best season in enduro racing, she was in a car accident that forced her to retire from racing. She spent years in rehab, moved states, and started over in Bentonville. Now, she's one of the most sought-after skills coaches in the business. Anneke sat down with Payson this week to talk about the many disciplines she's excelled at over the years, the car crash that ended her racing career just as she was at the top of her game, and how she transitioned into coaching some of the top mountain bikers in the world. She also gives a few tips on how everyone can work on their technical skills no matter where they live and discusses another new chapter in her career. You can find out more about Anneke's skills coaching here: https://www.crankitupmtb.comInstagram: @withpacepodYouTube: Payson McElveen

Welcome to EO Radio Show – Your Nonprofit Legal Resource. In today's episode, my guests are Dale Schroeder and Anneke Niemira with NewEdge Wealth, and our topic is charitable split-interest trusts. These come in four varieties: charitable lead annuity and unitrusts and charitable remainder annuity and unitrusts, known affectionately as CLATs and CLUTs, and CRATs and CRUTs, which are also further defined sometimes as NI-CRUTs, NIM-CRUTs, and Flip-CRUTs. That's a lot of acronyms. While the technical details are quite a lot to get one's head around, understanding the big idea for each and where each can fit into the investment planning is quite an accessible topic. In this episode, we talk about the big-picture understanding of these planning opportunities for philanthropists and the types of situations where lead trusts make a lot of sense. In next week's episode, Dale, Anneke, and I will dive deeper into the world of charitable remainder trusts and their technical issues and traps for the unwary. Anneka has a story many of us recognise — that moment where one drink turns into four, and suddenly you've lost the night again.Like so many, she used alcohol to take the edge off anxiety. It worked — until it didn't.Now, she's alcohol-free and in tune with a completely different kind of energy. She turns to her tarot cards — not just for guidance, but to help others explore their own stories too.Welcome to The Next Round — the podcast that asks what happens after we stop drinking. Maybe you're wondering what's next for you. Who knows — maybe it's written in the cards.Like Anneka Davie, who's turned her passion for tarot into a tool for self-discovery and connection. In this episode, she shares how ditching alcohol opened up a whole new path — and yes, she even pulls a few cards for me.When Anneke Davie stopped drinking, she didn't just give up wine – she made space for something entirely new. A quiet force emerged. It started with crystals, then crept into her life with the pull of tarot cards and the clarity of a new routine that no longer centred around hangovers or hazy memories. She'd always been a binge drinker.“Friday was my big sort of day. But my problem was I couldn't ever stop at one glass no matter how much I tried.”Like many, Anneke believed drinking gave her confidence, especially in social situations, but the next day was always brutal.“I'd be lying in bed crying, couldn't look at my phone. I just felt like everyone I'd been out with probably now hated me.”Her final drink came after a day at the races. Drunk and disoriented, she lost the diamond out of her engagement ring and found herself on hands and knees, scrabbling through the grass.“The next day I just thought, I don't want to do this anymore.”That was three years ago. What came next wasn't just sobriety – it was a reconnection with a part of herself that had been long dormant. As a child, she'd been fascinated by dreams, superstitions and horoscopes. Lockdown gave her the pause she needed to revisit that part of herself. Crystals came first, and soon her house was filled with them – much to the despair of her husband. But then came tarot. She found a reader on Instagram, began training, and started doing readings for herself. The cards became mirrors, windows, and conversation starters.“I use tarot more as helping people get insight into something they're struggling with. It doesn't predict your future. Anneke Lucas was born in Belgium and faced unimaginable trauma from a young age. At just six years old, she was tragically sold by her mother into a trafficking network that catered to European elites. Before this, Anneke experienced abuse at the hands of her family's cleaning lady, who later conspired with a relative to traffic her into an exclusive club where disturbing events took place. For years, Anneke endured severe abuse and torture, silenced by fear after witnessing the tragic fate of other victims. By the time she was 12, Anneke had survived some of the most horrific experiences imaginable. As a young adult, she lived in London, Paris, and New York before eventually settling in Los Angeles, where she began her healing journey through therapy, yoga, and meditation. Today, Anneke is the founder and Executive Director of Liberation Prison Yoga, a New York-based non-profit dedicated to supporting survivors. As a vocal advocate, she bravely shares her story—a powerful testament to resilience, hope, and the strength to heal. Our remarkable guest from Season One returns explaining how a small group of powerful men create celebrities out of abused children:Anneke Lucas was only a small child growing up in a little town in Belgium, when her mother began taking her to adult parties, and trafficking her to be abused as part of an organized system. When she was nine, she was spotted at one of these events by none other than David Rockefeller, who made her his own special project, whisking her away to America and presenting her as his ‘niece.' Presented to David's superior in the group, Sir Evelyn Rothschild, Anneke was invited to “join the family,” pledge her soul, and began preparing for her designated role as a future singing star. This training included not only music and dance lessons, but mental conditioning during a stint in the MK Ultra program in Germany, where she was tortured in order to prep her for her ‘real' career– spying on the powerful men with whom Rockefeller ‘shared' her. Anneke ultimately rejected the plan that had been set for her, and had to endure the torture inflicted for her disobedience.Anneke now enjoys a thriving life and her own podcast. She shares her story in hope that someday no child will endure this type of experience.Heroes Behind HeadlinesExecutive Producer Ralph PezzulloProduced & Engineered by Mike DawsonMusic provided by ExtremeMusic.comDesperately Seeking the '80sRevisit the crime and culture of NYC in the '80s with BFF Gen-Xers Jessica and Meg.Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify
Anneke Lucas was born in Belgium, where she was sold into a sex trafficking ring at age 6. Her rescue from the ring and subsequent journey of healing led her to New York and Los Angeles where she completed the MFA Screenwriting Program at the American Film Institute in 1992. After publishing her first book, The Deaf Musician, in her native Dutch, and writing many articles on trauma and yoga, she founded Liberation Prison Yoga to bring healing into the American prison system, from the inside out, while working on her memoir. The author's decades-long journey from girl victim to liberated woman has inspired all who cross her path. Her practical approach to heal the planet by pointing inward and learning to understand our own darkness to treat society's ills, has made her programs a success inside and outside the US prison system. She shares her message of personal empowerment with audiences worldwide.
