When it comes to driving change and results most people ask the question “what do I need to do to get to XYZ?”. The real question we ought to be asking is “who do I need to be as the vehicle of this change, and what mindset must I adopt to drive my mission to success?”. Your mindset – the beliefs you hold about the world, yourself, how other people see you, your ability to execute – is the ultimate piece we ought to pay more attention to, and one that can make or break the results you ultimately create. In today’s episode I explore the concept of creating space as a key strategy to enabling success. One of the key challenges we face in reaching our goals is failing to create space for our desired outcome to come in. We all operate under capacity constraints of time and energy – the two universal resources we are always spending, consciously or otherwise – and the success of the change you are looking to create will rely on your ability to effectively re-allocate those resources form your current settings. It’s like the closet that’s bursting with clothes – every now and again you have to clear it out to fit new stuff in. Key questions to consider: What are your goals? What change would you like to create in your life in the next 3-12 months? What do you need to do to facilitate that change? How have you been allocating your time and energy in the past 3-12 months? How would you allocate your time and energy to give yourself the best chance of success with your goal? Where would you re-allocate that time and energy from? Key questions and concepts explored: What is resilience? What does it mean? What does it look like? How – if at all – can we quantify, or measure, resilience? The building blocks of resilience.
