What does it really mean to raise a screen-smart child in a world that is designed to capture their attention? In this important and timely conversation, I sit down with Dr Mark Williams to discuss his new book with Gavin McCormack, exploring the science, the reality, and the responsibility we all share when it comes to children and screens.Drawing from their new book Screen Smart Children, we go beyond fear and blame to unpack what is actually happening in the developing brain. We talk about attention, emotional regulation, sleep, learning, and how constant digital stimulation is shaping the way children think, feel, and connect. This is not about removing technology. It is about understanding it.Together, we explore: What screens are doing to the brain during critical periods of development Why children struggle to switch off and what that means for behaviour The link between screen use, anxiety, and emotional dysregulation How schools and families can respond in a practical, balanced way What “screen smart” actually looks like in real life Dr Mark Williams brings deep expertise in cognitive neuroscience, helping us understand attention and memory in a distracted world. He collaborated with Gavin McCormack, bringing decades of experience in education, working directly with children, teachers, and families across the globe. What emerges is a clear and hopeful message: we are not powerless. With the right knowledge and small, consistent changes, we can reshape children's environments and support healthier brain development. This episode is for parents, educators, and anyone who cares about the next generation.Because this is not just about screens. It is about the kind of minds we are shaping for the future.
Send us Fan MailDopamine isn't the problem… overstimulation is.In a world where every spare moment gets filled—scrolling, notifications, constant input—your nervous system rarely has the chance to reset. The result isn't just distraction. It's a subtle, persistent state of mental noise where focus drops, clarity fades, and switching off starts to feel impossible. In this episode, we unpack the real issue behind modern distraction—and why so many high-performing individuals feel scattered, fatigued, and unable to fully engage with what matters. We reframe dopamine in a more useful way: not as something to eliminate, but as an anticipation chemical that's being constantly triggered by novelty and stimulation. When that becomes your baseline, your attention span shortens, your system stays activated, and even things you once enjoyed begin to feel flat.We also explore the three hidden costs of overstimulation:A low-level anxiety that never quite switches offA gradual loss of identity as you stop finishing what you startEmotional numbness that keeps you reaching for “just one more” distractionFrom there, we move into practical ways to restore balance and clarity:Replacing constant stimulation with grounding habits like movement, reading, writing, and real conversationUsing everyday moments to retrain your attention and presenceA simple five-second reset that interrupts the automatic pull toward distractionIf you've been feeling mentally crowded, easily distracted, or unable to fully switch off—this will help you understand why, and give you a clear way forward.Because the goal isn't to remove dopamine…It's to reclaim your attention—and your state.
In this episode of The Good Life EDU Podcast, Kristen Mattson—author, educator, and co-creator of the Edvolve Framework—returns for a deep and timely conversation on digital citizenship in today's rapidly evolving, AI-driven world. Together, Kristen and Andrew explore how Nebraska is moving from fragmented, siloed efforts toward a coherent, statewide approach to digital citizenship, grounded in shared language and practical application. Kristen breaks down the four strands of the Edvolve Framework—Digital Safety, Media & Information Literacy, Digital Wellbeing, and Social Responsibility—and explains how these elements overlap in real-world learning experiences. This episode challenges the idea that digital citizenship is a one-off lesson or compliance task. Instead, it reframes the work as ongoing, inquiry-based learning that can be embedded across content areas—from elementary author studies to high school social studies discussions on AI and society. Kristen also shares a powerful reminder: educators don't need to have all the answers—they need to create the conditions for students to ask better questions and think more deeply. Whether you're a classroom teacher, school leader, or parent, this episode offers both big-picture clarity and practical entry points for supporting students as thoughtful, responsible participants in digital spaces.
In this episode of Out of the Clouds, host Anne Mühlethaler welcomes back Caitlin Krause for their second conversation. Caitlin is a globally recognised experience designer, educator, author and founder of MindWise, whose work spans digital wellbeing, immersive design, contemplative practice and creative expression. She holds an MFA in poetry, has taught internationally across Belgium and Switzerland, and built the digital wellbeing program about wellbeing and technology at Stanford University. She teaches at the University of Oregon. She advises organisations including TED, The U.S. Air Force, LinkedIn, Google, Meta, Oracle, Evernote, and the U.S. State Department. Caitlin creates human-centered experiences mediated by technology, fusing creativity, meditation, storytelling, collaboration, and emotional intelligence for full life thriving. She is the author of six books, including her most recent work on digital wellbeing and a forthcoming collection of poetry, Poems of Root and Light. Caitlin and Anne first met at TED 2023, whose theme that year was Possibilities — and the thread of possibility runs through their exchange.Anne and Caitlin discuss her newest book, Digital Wellbeing, A transformative guide to thriving in the digital age. The conversation explores the etymology of the word 'digital' itself — a thread Caitlin traces from the digits of the hand through Shakespeare's Lady Macbeth to the immersive computing she works with today. Caitlin speaks to her motivation behind the book: not to produce a manual of healthy habits, nor to surrender to the idea that the machines have already won, but to offer an entry point for people to approach digital technology with less fear and hopefully less overwhelm that so many leaders and teams experience. The book is designed around the conviction that your body is your testing ground, that you get to have your experience and own it, and that the question of technology is ultimately a question of being.Caitlin's framework for immersive design, seven themes she calls the seven Es, anchored in what she describes as wonder-rich spatial computing design, runs through the conversation as both a professional methodology and a personal philosophy. Anne and Caitlin also discuss Caitlin's Shadow Storytelling experience, in which she guided participants from a Zoom call into a shared metaverse landscape for a meditation and storytelling session built around Jungian themes, winter imagery and candlelit caves. Both women explore the question of technology as a dance partner rather than a destination, and what it means to be the embodied physical human deciding how and whether to layer with it.Caitlin also tells the story of how the spirit of play, cultivated through an itinerant childhood in a foreign service family, has directly informed her pedagogy and her approach to guiding people into transformative experiences through technology. The conversation closes with Caitlin reading two poems from her forthcoming collection — 'The Middle Path' and the title poem 'Root and Light' — bringing the episode to a still and luminous end.Connect with CaitlinCaitlin's website: caitlinkrause.comMindWise — Caitlin's consultancyPoems of Root and Light — forthcoming poetry collectionDigital Satori — Caitlin's 2023 poetry collectionCaitlin's upcoming course at Kripalu Centre ‘Awakening Awe': Referenced in the episode:John O'Donohue — Irish poet and philosopherMartha Graham — choreographer and dance pioneer, quoted in the episodeDavid Whyte — poet and author whose work Caitlin referencesJoy Harjo — poet, referenced by CaitlinUrsula K. It’s Friday, so we’re wrapping up the week with a look at the stories making us smile. First, there’s a big win for parents as flu season approaches: a new needle-free ‘FluMist’ nasal spray is now available for kids and teens. We check in on which states are offering it for free to help keep the family healthy this winter. Then, we dive into the ‘viral’ moment that had the McDonald’s CEO’s own kids calling him out for his burger-tasting technique. Plus, we celebrate some truly legendary longevity as we clear up the headlines surrounding Jonathan, the world’s oldest tortoise.
A conversation with Kyle Janse, researcher at the Centre for Analytics and Behavioural Change, who speaks to Lester Kiewit, explored how social media platforms are deliberately designed to keep users engaged through powerful behavioural feedback loops. Rather than being a matter of weak willpower, endless scrolling is often the result of systems built to mimic social connection while delivering quick, repeated bursts of reward that encourage users to stay online. The discussion unpacked the idea of “social snacking,” where passive consumption replaces meaningful interaction, and how this can leave users feeling more disconnected over time. It also highlighted the importance of how we use these platforms, with active engagement proving far healthier than passive scrolling. Good Morning Cape Town with Lester Kiewit is a podcast of the CapeTalk breakfast show. This programme is your authentic Cape Town wake-up call. What if screens are not the real problem but the way we are using them is? In this powerful and practical conversation, physician and digital wellbeing researcher Dr Sajita Setia explains why today's children are growing up in what she calls the largest unintended human experiment with technology and how families can respond with clarity instead of guilt We explore what healthy digital habits actually look like in real homes and classrooms: Why the “guilt trap” is hurting parents and children more than screens themselves • How tech companies are intentionally designed to capture attention and why children are not “addicted” but manipulated • The three step framework that works in real families: Name it, Move it, Team it • Why keeping devices out of the bedroom may be the fastest way to improve sleep, mood, and behaviour • How sleep deprivation is quietly driving irritability, low mood, and school struggles in teens • Why emotional regulation skills must come before digital literacy • The truth about delaying smartphones, dumb phones, smart watches, and realistic boundaries • How peer mentoring in schools can shift digital culture from the inside out Dr Sajita works at the intersection of medicine, research, and real family life. As both a clinician and a mother, she brings a rare combination of scientific depth and compassionate realism to the digital wellbeing conversation If you are a parent, educator, or simply someone trying to raise grounded kids in a screen-saturated world, this episode offers practical, evidence-informed steps you can implement immediately. Podcast Episode: Everything Doesn't Need Your OpinionEpisode Description: Have you ever felt the uncontrollable urge to weigh in on every single post, news story, or online debate? In this episode of Wyce Thoughts, host Terry Wyce dives deep into the "outrage culture" of social media and the psychological trap of feeling like the world needs your commentary. Inspired by a recent Bill Maher monologue, Terry shares his personal journey of overcoming the "Main Character Syndrome" that fuels internet fighting. We explore the impact of the 2020 documentary The Social Dilemma and discuss how platforms manipulate users for profit, leading to mental health decline and polarization. Terry challenges listeners to reclaim their mental health by practicing the "Scroll-By," vetting information more critically in the age of AI, and taking the ultimate "Social Media Vacation". It's time to stop being "sheeple" to the feed and start talking about the things that actually matter: family, community, and the simple joys of life.Show Notes: Terry's "Vetted Source" ChecklistTo avoid falling for fabricated facts or AI-generated misinformation, Terry recommends running every "outrageous" post through this quick mental filter:Check the Source: Is this from a recognized news organization (ABC, NBC, CBS) or a random meme account?Search for the "Rest of the Story": Use other search engines or news sites to see if key context has been left out.Identify the Goal: Is this post designed to inform you, or is it designed to make you feel angry/superior?The 24-Hour Rule: Before hitting "share" or "reply," wait a day to see if the story is debunked or if your emotional reaction subsides.WebsiteFollow on X Follow on YoutubeFollow Purple Pit Studios on X
What if the most powerful internet law was written before social media even existed? In this urgent and surprisingly relatable conversation, Pratika Katiyar, privacy advocate at the ACLU, breaks down how Section 230 became the backbone of the modern internet and why reforming it is both necessary and risky. We dive deep into the invisible systems shaping your digital life: Why Section 230 protects platforms from liability and what that means for free speech, online harassment, and doxing • The uncomfortable truth about shadow banning reproductive health content and how online speech intersects with abortion access • The privacy patchwork problem and why only some states let you demand companies delete your personal data • Age verification laws that require uploading your ID or even biometric scans and why that may create new privacy risks • AI regulation in 2026 and why lawmakers keep talking about guardrails while federal policy remains largely absent • The surprising environmental and financial impact of AI data centers on local communities • Whether you should trust ChatGPT with your health data and what tech companies might actually know about you This episode connects digital wellness with civil liberties, showing how privacy, health data, AI expansion, and online safety are all part of the same story. In this episode of Enterprise Sessions from the University of Bristol, Professor Michele Barbour speaks with Dr Myles‑Jay Linton, Senior Lecturer in the School of Education, whose career has woven economics, health research, digital innovation and co‑production into a distinctive, socially impactful research portfolio.Myles‑Jay reflects on his journey from an interdisciplinary PhD at the University of Exeter to applied healthcare work in Bristol Medical School, a prestigious Vice‑Chancellor's Fellowship, and now pioneering work on the intersection of youth mental health and digital life. Along the way, he has collaborated with clinicians, policymakers, university leaders, young people, and—unusually for his field—a commercial mental health app developer. From shaping national guidance on information‑sharing in student mental health crises, to co‑creating digital toolkits with practitioners, to supporting developers integrating AI into peer‑support platforms, this episode explores how enterprise and social impact can coexist powerfully in research that is compassionate, rigorous, and deeply collaborative.
In this episode, Lisa and Dr. Sajita discuss:Digital well-being in an increasingly screen-based and AI-driven worldThe benefits and risks of artificial intelligence and digital tools for young people's learning and development.Parenting strategies for guiding children and teens toward healthier technology habitsPrivacy, safety, and behavioral risks within the modern digital ecosystem and social media environmentKey Takeaways: Digital well-being means using technology in ways that support mental and physical health, especially for young people. The digital ecosystem includes many devices and apps, so focusing only on phones won't solve issues.Parents should focus on sleep, relationships, school, offline hobbies, and positive online learning, not just screen time. - Is my child physically healthy and getting enough sleep?- Are they connecting well socially with family and friends?- Are they engaged with school and achieving their goals?- Are they pursuing hobbies and interests beyond screens?- Are they having fun and learning when they use digital media?Families should use AI as a thinking aid, protect personal information, and encourage teens to share less online.“[Technology] can help your work productivity, but it can also doom your career and future if you're not careful.” – Dr. Sajita SetiaAbout Dr. Sajita Setia: Dr. Sajita Setia is a physician and evidence-based educator dedicated to helping families and schools raise resilient, balanced young people in a world of constant screens. As an expert in digital wellbeing and youth online safety, she transforms cutting-edge research into practical strategies for parents, preteens, and teens. What if there was one place left in the United States where Wi-Fi, cell towers, and constant wireless exposure simply did not exist? In this episode of the Healthier Tech Podcast, I sit down with Andrew McAfee, licensed electrician, EMF expert, and inventor of the Nuisance Current Blocker, to explore one of the most important and little-known places in America: the National Radio Quiet Zone in Green Bank, West Virginia. Originally protected by state law to shield one of the world's most sensitive radio telescopes, this region has quietly become a refuge for people who are electrically sensitive and overwhelmed by modern wireless exposure. Today, that refuge is under threat. Andrew explains what the Radio Quiet Zone is, why it matters for both science and human health, and how recent decisions to allow Wi-Fi inside the zone could permanently change it. We also discuss the legal effort now underway to update West Virginia law so it protects people, not just telescopes. This conversation goes far beyond EMFs. It touches on public health, autonomy, surveillance, and why preserving even one truly low-EMF environment may matter more than ever. In this episode, we cover: What the National Radio Quiet Zone is and why it was created Why electrically sensitive people are moving to Green Bank How wireless exposure affects the nervous system and immune health The difference between ambient wireless radiation and satellite communication Why allowing Wi-Fi inside the Quiet Zone could open the floodgates The legal fight to protect the Quiet Zone for future generations Why this area may be the last true low-EMF refuge in the U.S. Resources mentioned: Green Bank Safe Haven https://greenbanksafehaven.net Protect the National Radio Quiet Zone https://protectnationalquietzone.org Donate to Protect the National Radio Quiet Zone https://protectnationalquietzone.org/donate Children's Health Defense https://childrenshealthdefense.org If you care about the future of technology, health, and human resilience, this is a conversation you do not want to miss. In this episode, you will learn: How Dr. Rothschild went from skepticism to full commitment after seeing early red light therapy results in his practice Why whole body red and near infrared exposure creates fundamentally different outcomes than spot treatments How red light supports mitochondrial function and ATP production, the core of cellular energy and healing Why red light therapy does not destroy tissue and how it differs from heat, lasers, and other aggressive modalities The connection between light exposure, fat metabolism, recovery, and systemic healing Why athletes, chronic illness patients, and aging adults are seeing dramatic improvements in stamina and recovery What makes medical grade red light therapy different from consumer devices flooding the market Why Dr. Rothschild believes health care focuses too heavily on managing disease instead of restoring function This episode is not about hype or miracle cures. It is about understanding how light interacts with biology and why supporting cellular energy may be one of the most overlooked foundations of health. If you are curious about red light therapy, skeptical of wellness trends, or looking for smarter ways to support healing, recovery, and longevity, this conversation will expand how you think about what is possible. What if your phone was never meant to serve you at all? Writer and researcher Shannon Rowan returns to The Healthier Tech Podcast to break down the uncomfortable truth behind modern technology. Drawing from her latest book The Red Shoes, Shannon explains why today's devices behave less like tools and more like addictive systems engineered to hijack attention, behavior, and health. This conversation goes far beyond screen time tips. In this episode, we explore: The chilling metaphor of The Red Shoes and how it explains digital addiction and loss of control Why infinite scroll, notifications, and pull to refresh are modeled after slot machines How dopamine driven design rewires the brain and undermines focus, empathy, and decision making Why tech addiction mirrors substance abuse and why experts compare smartphones to cocaine and heroin The physical consequences of constant device use, especially for children A disturbing hospital case that raises questions about EMFs and infant health The hidden environmental cost of modern tech, from lithium mining to data centers and AI Why green tech and electric vehicles may not be as clean as advertised How tech erases boundaries between work, rest, and relationships Simple, realistic boundaries that can dramatically reduce stress and digital overwhelm This episode challenges the idea that faster, smarter, and more connected automatically means healthier. What if the biggest threat to your career is not outsourcing, automation, or bad bosses but intelligence itself. In this episode of The Healthier Tech Podcast, George Shepherd, founder of 360 Summits and creator of End of Employment, delivers a blunt, wide ranging warning about where AI is heading, why the traditional job model is breaking down faster than most people realize, and what it actually takes to stay ahead of what is coming This conversation goes far beyond marketing tactics or tech trends. It is about resilience, independence, and how to rethink work, income, and purpose in a world where machines are learning faster than humans. In this episode, you will hear: ● How George helped pioneer virtual summits and why giving away your best knowledge for free still works ● Why AI is already replacing white collar jobs and why the impact is accelerating faster than public data suggests ● What the AI 2027 report predicts and why George believes the disruption will be deeper than most forecasts ● Why information products, consulting, and even education are being quietly commoditized ● The concept of income independence and why relying on a single employer is increasingly risky ● How decentralized finance, residual income, and ownership models fit into a post employment future ● Why survival skills, adaptability, and self reliance are becoming business skills ● The difference between doom and opportunity and how preparation changes everything This episode is not about panic or conspiracy. It is about pattern recognition, historical context, and taking responsibility for your future before choices narrow. If you are a founder, creator, consultant, employee, or anyone wondering how to stay relevant in an AI driven economy, this conversation will challenge how you think about work, security, and freedom. Caitlin Krause, author of Digital Wellbeing, argues that intentional design unlocks genuine connection within virtual spaces. Drawing on her teaching at Stanford and the University of Oregon, she's explored how XR environments can foster asynchronous connection and ambient awareness for people who crave belonging without hyper-social performance. Her framework rejects the "digital detox" model entirely—instead advocating for dignity-first design where users match attention with authentic intention. The hosts debate the deeper question: what happens to human purpose when AI handles all labor? Rony Abovitz frames this as the "asymmetry of design"—it's easy to build addictive tech, hard to build wellbeing tech. Caitlin counters that we may return to the original meaning of "amateur" (from amor, "to love"), where humans find meaning through play, creativity, and what Harvard's lifespan study confirms: quality of relationship and presence. The conversation spirals from platform ethics to post-work society to what first principles we should use when designing XR.5 Key Takeaways from Caitlin:Loneliness is a biological prompt to find another human—not a void to fill with endless content. XR can foster genuine forms of connection without requiring hyper-social performance.Dignity-first design unlocks freedom, invention, and agency. When digital spaces prioritize user agency over engagement metrics, people report feeling like they "got their life back."Science will soon prove what we already know about fractal patterns in nature and digital signals. The key is designing digital experiences that resonate with how humans biologically thrive. The "middle path" between nature and digital is both/and. Gamers building entire lives in virtual worlds can be healthy when those worlds offer creativity, belonging, and meaningful challenge. The post-labor economy needs a reset in literacy and values. When AI outperforms human workers, purpose shifts from survival to what makes you feel alive—maker culture, digital fab labs, hands-on creation, and "amateur" pursuits driven by love.In the News: Oracle, Silver Lake, and Abu Dhabi's MGX close the $50 billion TikTok spin-off deal. Meta cuts Reality Labs by 30%, but CTO Andrew Bosworth says it's moving to AI. What if the most dangerous health device in your home is the one you use without thinking. In this episode of The Healthier Tech Podcast, Dr. Beverly Jensen, founder of YouAndEMF.com, explains why modern EMF exposure is not just a fringe concern and how everyday tech habits may be quietly affecting fertility, brain health, childhood development, and long term wellbeing This is a practical, eye opening conversation that connects the dots between invisible radiation, chronic exposure, and the tech behaviors we have normalized. You will hear about: How sitting near a Wi Fi router for months triggered Dr. Jensen's EMF sensitivity and reshaped her life's work Why airplane mode alone can cut phone radiation exposure by roughly 95 percent The uncomfortable reason phones do not belong in pockets, bras, or on laps What more than 200 studies reveal about sperm damage, fertility decline, and phone placement The disturbing rise in colorectal cancer among children and why researchers are questioning constant device exposure Why women and children appear to be more vulnerable to EMFs and why mothers often lead behavior change How Hollywood once normalized cigarettes and how phones may be following the same path Simple low cost steps that dramatically reduce EMF exposure without abandoning modern technology This episode is not about panic or unplugging from life. It is about understanding cumulative exposure and making smarter choices with the devices you already use. In this week's episode of The Learning Curve, co-hosts U-Ark. Professor Albert Cheng and Center for Strong Public Schools' Alisha Searcy speak with Sean Geraghty & Mike Goldstein, authors of I'll Do It Later: Surviving School (and Renewing the Love) with Your ADHD Son. Geraghty and Goldstein reflected on the academic and personal experiences that fueled their passion to research ADHD and coauthor their latest book. The authors delve into the rise in ADHD diagnoses among young Americans, weighing in on how social media and technology have contributed to dwindling attention spans. Drawing on four case studies from their book, they share lessons from observing families raising children with ADHD and offer guidance for parents facing similar challenges. As many schools work to meet the needs of ADHD learners, Geraghty and Goldstein also discussed how educators can adapt classroom environments to better support broader academic needs.

In this thought-provoking episode of The Evolving Leader, hosts Jean Gomes and Scott Allender talk with Dr Christine Rosen, senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and author of The Extinction of Experience. The conversation examines how our growing dependence on technology is subtly reshaping what it means to be human, thinning our attention, dulling empathy, and changing how we connect and make sense of the world. Drawing on history, neuroscience and cultural observation, Christine invites us to pause and consider what is the true cost of convenience, and how do we reclaim our embodied authentic experience in a digital world? For leaders, this conversation is a wake-up call. As AI accelerates and organisations seek ever greater efficiency, Rosen argues that the future advantage will belong to those who can cultivate distinctly human capacities, presence, curiosity, and discernment. Her insights challenge us to create workplaces that strengthen, rather than outsource, our humanity. Teens are forming emotional bonds — not just online, but with AI companions. In this episode, Dr Justin Coulson talks with Brown University psychologist Dr Jacqueline Nesi, author of Techno Sapiens, about the fast-growing world of AI “friendships” and what they mean for kids’ mental health. They also unpack Jackie’s latest research revealing how often teens check their phones — and how it’s shaping their moods. It’s a must-listen for parents navigating the blurred lines between connection, distraction, and dependence in the digital age. KEY POINTS 72% of teens have used an AI companion; over half use one regularly. AI chatbots are designed to keep kids engaged — often prioritising screen time over wellbeing. For some vulnerable kids, AI chats can feel like friendship or therapy — but they aren’t replacements for real connection. Australia’s new social-media age-limit laws may help, but implementation and design flaws remain. Teens check their phones an average of 112 times a day — once every 10 minutes! Frequent phone checking is linked with greater emotional ups and downs. Teens who are less mindful tend to reach for their phones more after bad days — using screens as emotional regulation tools. What matters most: how kids use technology and who they are, not just how much. QUOTE OF THE EPISODE “The effects of smartphones on mood and wellbeing are complicated — it’s not that phones are simply bad, it’s about who’s using them and how.” RESOURCES MENTIONED Techno Sapiens – Dr Jacqueline Nesi’s Substack Tech Without Stress – Resources for parents Happy Families – More parenting resources ACTION STEPS FOR PARENTS Ask your kids how they use AI or chatbots — listen before you lecture. What if online harassment isn't random at all—but part of a strategy? In this explosive episode of The Healthier Tech Podcast, host R Blank talks with Viktorya Vilk, Director of Digital Safety and Free Expression at PEN America, about how governments, corporations, and tech platforms are turning the internet into a weapon against free speech. Viktorya reveals how political power, economic pressure, and digital surveillance now intersect to create an ecosystem where journalists, writers, and even librarians are targeted for speaking out. She breaks down how authoritarian tactics, media consolidation, and platform indifference have combined to make the online world hostile to truth—and what each of us can do to push back. In This Episode: How the U.S. dropped to 57th in global press freedom rankings—and why that's not an accident The chilling new playbook: online harassment as a censorship tool Why Big Tech's business model thrives on surveillance, fear, and silence How Facebook and Google siphoned 70% of online ad revenue, collapsing local journalism Real-life examples of reporters attacked, arrested, and digitally terrorized for telling the truth The practical digital safety steps every person can take—starting today Why Viktorya refuses to give in to “tech nihilism” and insists users have power Why You Should Listen This isn't just a podcast about harassment or privacy—it's about democracy, power, and your voice. Viktorya explains how the same digital forces that endanger journalists are eroding safety and free expression for everyone. But she also shares concrete tools to rebuild your sense of control online: from password hygiene and privacy audits to collective advocacy that pressures tech platforms to act responsibly. “Enough is enough.” That's the rallying cry of more than 100 health advocacy groups uniting under the banner of 704 No More™ — a coalition determined to restore local governments' rights over the placement of cell towers and antennas. Why? Because in 1996, Congress quietly passed Section 704 of the Telecom Act, which stripped local communities of the ability to fight these towers on health or environmental grounds. Nearly three decades later, wireless infrastructure has multiplied, exposures have intensified, and communities remain powerless. In this episode of The Healthier Tech Podcast, host R Blank sits down with longtime health advocate Camilla Rees and telecom attorney Scott McCollough, Esq., to uncover: How industry lobbying created Section 704—and why it still protects profits over people The science regulators ignore: decades of Navy, NASA, NIH, and EPA studies showing EMFs disrupt DNA, immunity, and ecosystems Why you can't sue for property loss or illness when a tower goes up near your home The safer alternative: how fiber-to-the-home could cut EMF exposure by hundreds of times while keeping fast connectivity Why the FCC is one of the most captured agencies in Washington—and what it means for your health This episode dives deep into health, rights, and the hidden history of U.S. telecom policy. If you care about your family, your property, or your community, you don't want to miss it. For only the second time in The Healthier Tech Podcast history, the roles are reversed. Host R Blank, CEO of Shield Your Body and co-author of Overpowered, steps into the guest seat — while Stephanie Warner takes over the mic to interview him about his groundbreaking new book, Empowered: Your Essential Guide to Navigating EMF Protection in a Wireless World. Inside this episode: How EMF exposure has exploded since 2012 — with everything from thermostats to doorbells now emitting radiation. Why your phone in your pocket can be a bigger hazard than the cell tower outside your house. The three free behavioral changes R says anyone can make today to cut exposure. How to spot the snake-oil “protection” products that waste your money. Why Empowered is the survival guide the wireless industry doesn't want you to have. R also shares how he structured his 27-chapter roadmap — covering science, exposure measurement, behavior shifts, product evaluation, and proven protection strategies — to give listeners a practical playbook for safer living in a wireless world. Are you addicted to your phone—or just trained to be? In this episode of The Healthier Tech Podcast, we dive into the clever world of physical tools for digital wellness with David Woodward, co-founder of Mindsight. Once a pet product entrepreneur (yes, he made the squeaky toy your dog loved... and you barely tolerated), David now designs devices that help people unplug, refocus, and live more intentionally. His flagship product? A timed phone lockbox. It sounds extreme, but it's changing lives—from breaking scrolling habits to curbing smoking, overspending, and late-night doomscrolling. Here's what we explore: How a literal box is beating screen addiction when apps can't Why fortress mode (30 days, no override) is digital rehab in a box Wild user stories—like casino-goers locking up their winnings The psychology of self-imposed tech boundaries The evolution of the “Breathing Buddha,” a screen-free meditation device Why the future of digital wellness might be more analog than you think If you've ever said, “I just want to use my phone less,” but couldn't quite follow through—this one's for you. Ready to reclaim your time, attention, and sleep? Tune in to this powerful conversation—and if it resonates, share it with a fellow phone addict.
