Hello Mid-Bloomers! On this episode I asked a few friends about their thoughts on Thanksgiving and I share when I was a Hindu one Thanksgiving, i.e. "not eating meat." I know, right!?This is my favorite time of the year. There's a chill in the air, breezy with colorful leaves twirling around. Remember Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving with toast and jelly beans? I watch it every year and it never gets old. My mom used to cook up a storm with homemade dressing made with stale bread, cornbread, juices from the turkey, spices like thyme, basil, and sage. Yum! And she made all of her desserts from scratch including the crust; sweet potato pies, apple pies, cookies and pound cake! There were so many years when the family came to our house and mom made enough so everybody could take leftovers home. After dinner we would pass around a microphone and everyone would say what they were thankful for.I have a lot to be thankful for this year. I'm grateful my TIA was not a full on stroke. And it gave me a chance to make major changes in my life without losing any physical or mental functions. My heartfelt gratitude goes to the swift response of the medical professionals who took me to the hospital by ambulance, the doctors and nurses in the ER, and once in my room, the doctors, nurses, and medical techs that took good care of me. I'm grateful for the friendship of my neighbors Gregory and Victoria for their support, and taking care of my home and my kitties, and, my spiritual coach who has guided me on a path of self-discovery and self-love. And friends that I'm so grateful to have in my life. Sending blessings to everyone this Thanksgiving. May you give yourself the love you deserve and the time to reflect on what you are thankful for this year.In order to grow we must reveal our truth and stand in it. I am brave. Hello Mid-Bloomers! Sooo grateful you're back to hear the rest of my interview with Petra. She is such a naturally warm and empathetic soul. She encourages everyone to tap into their own personal power. In this episode we talk about the breath work she does and how trauma can affect your physical and mental health. "When we coordinate our senses, an amazing shift happens. Our breath is our life force and when we use the breath in an empowering way, we are able to expand our consciousness. We all have stuff that we (unconsciously) hold within our cells. Even though you have cognitively worked through trauma, your body may still be holding feelings of anger, sadness, regret, shame, guilt and fear." - Petra van DeijlPetra van Deijl is an International Certified Life Coach & Breath Work Practitioner, and, works with clients from all over the world. Welcome Mid-Bloomers to Season Two! My special guest for the first two episodes is Petra van Deijl. Petra is an International Certified Life Coach & Breath Work Practitioner, and, works with clients from all over the world. Petra specializes in addressing narcissistic and emotional abuse within seemingly loving relationships. Petra and I both openly share our personal experiences with narcissists. How they impacted our lives but ultimately we took back control and found ourselves again. Wise Words From Petra van Deijl; What Is A Narcissist? Narcissism is a personality disorder. The narcissist is very much aware of the abuse they inflict on you. Often times we (mistakingly) think that a Narcissist is very confident but they are in fact plagued by very low self esteem. To compensate this void feeling they will seduce and consequently destroy their targets by way of manipulation, intimidation, projection, gaslighting and the silent treatment. Do you struggle with feeling invisible or unheard? You need to know you are enough!Do people tend to suck the energy out of you, misuse your financial or emotional resources, or take you for granted? You are not alone in this. Being a kind and loving human being does not equal being used as a doormat. In childhood you have been conditioned to put the needs of others before your own, this has become a part of your emotional make up. This is your belief system. One of the great things about being capable of introspection is that it allows you to uncover your childhood wounds, heal them and in doing so you create a new identity for yourself. Recently, I had a life-altering experience when I suffered a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). My heartfelt gratitude goes to the swift response of the medical professionals who took me to the hospital by ambulance, the doctors and nurses in the ER, and once in my room, the doctors, nurses, and medical techs that took good care of me. During that time, I experienced high blood pressure, numbness on my left side, and garbled speech. Fortunately, these symptoms lasted no more than three hours. A Crucial Lesson: This experience served as a stark reminder of how important it is to prioritize our health, especially as we navigate the middle-age years. It's easy to get caught up in the demands of daily life, but our well-being should always come first. Important Steps: Taking prescribed medications, maintaining a balanced diet, and engaging in regular exercise are essential components of a healthy lifestyle. It's a combination that not only supports our physical health but also strengthens our mental and emotional resilience.Community of Support: I'm grateful for the incredible support from friends and family during this time. It reinforces the importance of a strong support network as we journey through our lives.A Gentle Reminder: In these moments, it's crucial to be kind to yourself. Recognize that healing is a journey, and it's okay to have setbacks. Seek support, whether from friends, family, or professionals, and remember that self-compassion is an essential part of the healing process.Let's Prioritize Our Health Together: I'm sharing this personal experience to encourage all of us in the middle-age bracket to take our health seriously. Let's motivate each other to make positive choices that ensure a healthier, happier, and more fulfilling life.Important Takeaways: Having a contingency plan in place is crucial. I've started compiling a list of emergency contacts, including trusted neighbors and friends, and sharing my house keys with a close friend who can assist in unforeseen situations. This simple yet thoughtful step can provide peace of mind and ensure the well-being of my kitties; Hoss and Allie.National Institute on Aging (.gov)Getting Your Affairs in Order Checklist: Documents to Prepare ...Tina Turner: She stops taking her medication damaging her kidneys:https://www.mercurynews.com/2023/05/24/tina-turner-i-put-my-life-in-danger-by-neglecting-kidney-disease-hypertension/#:~:text=Even%20after%20suffering%20a%20stroke,to%20be%2C%E2%80%9D%20Turner%20In order to grow we must reveal our truth and stand in it. People often struggle with self-esteem, self-care, and believing in themselves. Childhood trauma, which I experienced, can have a profound and lasting impact throughout a person's life. Trauma experienced during childhood can lower self-esteem with feelings of unworthiness, guilt, or shame. There are voices that whisper in your ear from your past playing old and negative self-perceptions which can persist into adulthood, making it challenging to believe in yourself and prioritize self-care. Additionally, childhood trauma can disrupt healthy tools that were developed, making it difficult for individuals to engage in self-care effectively. My recent health scare literally brought me to my knees. And every coping mechanism I had learned over the years was, temporarily, thrown out the window. Healing from past trauma is a complex journey that often involves therapy and support to rebuild self-esteem and develop the belief in one's worth and the ability to care for oneself. It is hard work, but, it can be done.Blessings everyone. We're not meant to face life's challenges alone.Widening our World : Friends teach us how to navigate situations and break out of our comfort zones. They help us to grow and be curious about our differences.Health Benefits: Strong friendships lead to longer, healthier lives. Spending time with friends improves our well-being and encourages healthier habits. So, let's make time for friendships and nurture these precious connections. They bring joy, support, and a whole lot of fun to our lives. Cheers to the power of adult friendships!Goodbye for now my Mid-Bloomers! Season Two begins in September. Hello my dear mid-bloomers!This is Episode 23! Next week Episode 24 is my last episode for Season One! Yay! This podcast has been one of my dreams and I did it! I knew nothing about podcasting but I have always loved storytelling. I have always wanted to share my journey to help heal myself and others. I know, for me, all of this is in co-creation with God. We all have our own journey and no one can tell you how to travel and live it. Today's episode focuses on why I wanted to start a podcast and become a storyteller. I also share self-care when it comes to how you choose to live your life.Next week is Episode 24, my last episode for Season One. This 24th episode is all about friendship; the good, the bad, and, the not too bad. Season Two will begin in September and there will be bonus and teaser episodes this summer.Below is some self-care advice;Give yourself permission to dream. Think about the things you are passionate about, and imagine how they could become a part of your life.Don't try to do everything at once. Set realistic goals and take one step at a time towards achieving them.Connect with like minded people who are already living their truth or on their way. Together you will help raise each other's vibration. Just do it! Fear will always be around you just push past it, tears and all. Once you have an idea, take action. Take classes, attend seminars, and find mentors who can help you along the way.Celebrate your successes. Every step forward is a success and should be celebrated.Blessings to everyone. Hi My Mid-bloomers! What's going on? Are you being kind to yourself? They should ask you what are your areas of concern and what you want to accomplish as they work with you. Hello mid-bloomers and friends! So; are all feelings present and accounted for? I think it's a good question and I ask this of myself almost every day. Do I stay in the moment? In this episode I continue along my therapy journey. I enter into a very unhealthy relationship and seek guidance from a therapist that I thought could help me navigate through this relationship. My thoughts about finding the right therapist are my personal point of view and not to be considered as advice from a professional.#2 Tip For Finding The Right TherapistLook for a therapist who specializes in the type of therapy that you may require. It may be something general that may not require a specialist like struggling with depression because of something at work. It's important to be honest about your state of mind and what your concerns are. It's okay to ask questions as that is your right. Would you prefer a man or a woman? Hi mid-bloomers and friends! Putting out a little teaser today about therapy. After finding and working with a well suited therapist, it can be life changing. It was painful and is painful when touching on experiences that you never really worked through. Or, are just now rearing their ugly head. I found the quality of my life and my relationships are so much better but as we know the journey never ends. Many relationships ended because my personal vibration had changed for the better. Just as finding the right physician is important to your physical health, your emotional and mental health demand expert care to appropriately assess your needs. My focus over the next few weeks will spotlight the good, the bad, and the ugly I experienced and experience in therapy. Seeking therapy is a very individual decision in which you may find yourself vulnerable. Trust is the forefront for positive and effective treatment.Therapy can be hard work depending upon what your needs are and what you are willing to put into it. I'll be sharing recommendations on how to find the right therapist on my full podcast episode airing Wednesday May 3rd and in later episodes.TRANSCRIPT...So I went to this new outpatient program at a medical center in DC. My therapist at the time initially recommended I enter their in patient program. I bristled at that. One flew over the cuckoo's nest? Oh no! And I couldn't leave my precious kitties. They've kept me sane and don't judge me. So then she suggested an outpatient program, weekly along with weekly individual therapy sessions...In order to grow we must reveal our truth and stand in it. Victoria has been a long-time neighbor and friend. She has a master's in social work and has spent her entire career in the healthcare field. She has the gift of "Empathy" and that explains, to me, why she was passionate about her career and has the same passion in retirement.Over the past few years I was dealing with elderly family members, including my mother, that required additional attention and care. Navigating through our massive health care system can be overwhelming and Victoria was instrumental in successfully guiding me through the many processes. As you listen to our conversation I ask you to consider the following:It is ok and good to ask for helpAsking for help is a sign of strength and courage. It shows that you are willing to learn and grow, and that you value the input and knowledge of others. Don't hesitate to ask for help when you need it.Empathy and why it matters Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. It matters because it allows us to connect with others on a deeper level, build stronger relationships, and create a more compassionate world. It also helps us to be better communicators and problem-solvers, as we are able to see things from different perspectives. Acknowledging Your Expertise/And get paid!If you've got a side gig or diving into your passion, it is important to recognize the value of your expertise and set fair rates for your services. It's okay to ask for payment for your work, as it reflects the time, effort, and knowledge you are bringing to the table. Remember to communicate your rates clearly and confidently to potential clients. In order to grow we must reveal our truth and stand in it. I am brave. It doesn't mean I 'm not afraid. In this episode April starts getting into some of the issues she began dealing with after losing her job. Here are some of her own go to quotes;"You are worth caring about! It may be a new message but it is surely the truth. That voice that easily says "fool". It's familiar. But it's not the truth. It sounds right because what else did you know? Revel in this new message!""Some of us were taught that others come first. That we do not matter. And we end up being caregivers for those you choose not to live fully. The truth is we don't owe anyone else our life. Do not feel guilty for choosing you.""When you spend time trying to please others you lose who you are and lose sight of your own needs." Stacey Montgomery began her education studying medicine due to an early inspiration as a child. However; she realized fairly soon it was not her cup of tea and shifted to the law, starting her professional career in the corporate world. Stacey has always loved drawing and writing but never believed it was something that could blossom into a successful living. But when she was laid off, she took the opportunity to follow her passion and speed down that creative track. Stacey M. Design celebrates children and has been on a mission to build their self-confidence. She believes there is something special in each child and is determined to help them tap into their own uniqueness and greatness. She calls it their "Super Power."Stacey's son, Isaiah has been one of her biggest inspirations. She witnessed his personal struggles in school. Feeling helpless, sad and frustrated, Stacey realized that he and many other children needed guidance in a way that would make them feel more confident and that they matter. As a writer and illustrator Stacey developed guided journals for social emotional learning (SEL) programs for use in elementary schools and youth groups. Using her guided journals in school settings, a group, or at home, encourages productive conversations and develop their self-esteem.For more information and to connect with Stacey please check out her websites at www.staceymdesign.com and her non-profit foundation at www.mysuperpowersfoundation.org In order to grow we must reveal our truth and stand in it. How an unexpected layoff turned her into a full-time entrepreneurStacey Montgomery began her education studying medicine due to an early inspiration as a child. However; she realized fairly soon it was not her cup of tea and shifted to the law, starting her professional career in the corporate world.
