"Remembering Brother Esutosin Omowale Osunkoya (aka Charles Brunson) of Sacramento, he started the Black Panther Party (BPP) chapter in Sacramento in 1968. Sending positive energy & much love to Margo and family. Ashe!! Ashe!!" -Faye Wilson Kennedy Omowale was an amazing person always full of life and ready to dance or drum. To think he would pass from Covid-19 is heart breaking. http://sacobserver.com/2020/04/virus-claims-life-of-local-black-panther-party-founder/?fbclid=IwAR2PfB97ZZABGGABtt7lXQ-JhySsJ-UOow8rXaSEHqgDd4HyXY56EN7XFxk I was lucky enough to run sound during a Black Panther panel at The Brickhouse Art Gallery in Sacramento California part of an exhibit called "SAC PANTHERS 48 ART EXHIBITION" by Milton Bowens. So I thought I should record some of the discussion on a whim, I never did anything with the recording until now. This is the raw cut of the audio no edits. Enjoy.

Open Mic Sketchbook was based on my time hosting at Mahogany but now that I’m hosting at two locations I thought of making Open Mic Sketchbook broader. Poet City is that concept.

August 12, 2017 9AM - 3PM 4610 X St, Sacramento, CA The 2nd Annual Sacramento Black Women’s Health & Wellness Conference (SBWHWC) will commence on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 9am – 3pm at the University of California, Davis-Education Building, [address: 4610 X Street, Sacramento, CA 95817]. Our motto is “A Healthier You! A Healthier Me! A Healthier We!” The purpose of this conference is to focus on reducing health disparities that disproportionately affect Black women by raising awareness about mental and physical health. The conference will educate attendees about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Last year’s conference was an enormous success! There were 125 women in attendance. Each woman was provided the space to engage with one another, as well as community health services. They were provided with amazing resources from our vendors and inspired by a keynote address from Alondra Thompson. Participants were also extremely engaged in our interactive health workshops and learned about the importance of prioritizing their mental health. The feedback was overwhelming and we look forward to providing that same positive energy to this year’s SBWHWC! This year’s conference will be titled “Healing Invisible Scars” and we will focus on overcoming trauma, relationship dynamics, cardiovascular disease prevention, and overall the mental, spiritual, and physical protection of your heart. We aim to address these specific health disparities and engage a community to reach towards prevention. The SBWHWC will provide attendees with a dynamic keynote speaker, a thought provoking panel discussion, informative workshops, an energizing physical activity to promote heart health, and a nutritious breakfast & lunch.
