But this week there is a landmark to celebrate. More than two years after the devastating wildfire, the town's U.S. Post Office has reopened. And this milestone is about more than just mail. Grizzly Flats resident Eileen Strangfeld, Postmaster Alicia Leech, and Mark Almer from the Grizzly Flats Fire Safe Council join Insight with an update on the town's restoration. Sac County's Progress to Add Mental Health Clinicians to Schools CapRadio's Sacramento K-12 Education Reporter Srishti Prabha shares their reporting on the progress and challenges Sacramento County is facing in their push to add mental health clinicians in classrooms. In 2020, the Sacramento County Office of Education set a goal to have a clinician at every school - roughly 300 campuses - but progress has been slow. However there are bright spots. At the beginning of February, advertising agency Reset Digital launched a new programmatic marketplace for the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA), a trade organization that represents more than 200 Black-owned newspapers in the U.S., including the Sacramento Observer, The Philadelphia Tribune and the Dallas Examiner. The goal of the marketplace was to connect large advertisers like Procter & Gamble and Verizon with publications that hadn't been equipped to run national programmatic ad campaigns, which ultimately led them to miss out on critical revenue. On the latest episode of the Digiday Podcast, Reset Digital's CEO Charles Cantu said that this collaboration with the NNPA went beyond the creation of a marketplace, to provide these news publications with the tech stacks necessary to run ads, as well as teach them how to sustainably build their online audiences.

With a mission to help Black-owned newspapers to "survive and thrive," ten Black newspapers have joined forces to create Word in Black, a platform to “amplify the Black experience by reporting, collecting and sharing stories about real people in communities across the country,” The initiative is part of the Fund for Black Journalism, founded last year by the Local Media Association (LMA), who initially received funding from the Walton Family Foundation to do stories about COVID-19 and education. The idea was to create a national site to house the ten newspapers' stories about the issues. That site became WordInBlack.com, which soft-launched in May and covers racial equity, K-12 education, police reform, healthcare disparities, social justice, politics, opinion, sports and LGBTQ issues and rights.
