For the past 20-something years that I've covered the world of college wrestling, one system has always been extremely unique and interesting to me, the California Community College Athletic Association. Now branded as the 3C2A, the organization has sponsored a men's wrestling collegiate championship since 1959. In 1982, the strangest thing about the league came into being - it became a fall sport. So for over 40 years, the first wrestling to kick off each season isn't the NWCA All-Star Classic or an open somewhere in Michigan, it's in September in California. So what and who is actually competing out there? I went to find out, seeing some familiar faces along the way to tell some stories about what the athletes and coaches get out of competing in wrestling's fall season. On this episode, you'll hear from: 7:40 - John Sachs from Tech-Fall.com10:50 - Mt. The most important and long-lasting institution in Rancho Cordova history has been Mather Field which would become Mather Air Force Base and today is Mather Airport. For 100 years, Mather has drawn people from around the country and the world. But as the old saying goes, people's memories are good, but short. And that is what makes the contribution of former Mather Wing Commander Col. Robert J. Martinelli so important. Col. Martinelli's contributions to Mather have actually spanned more than 30 years. He first came to Mather during the Cold War to train at the beginning of his long Air Forcecareer and years later he returned as its commander to close it down when the peace dividend was paid in 1992.   Col Martinelli had a distinguished career in the United Sates Air Force. Bob Martinelli, who began his military career flying combat missions over Vietnam, later served in various command and administrative postings, including an assignment at the Pentagon. In the '90s, with the Cold War over and Saddam Hussein defeated for the first time, the military began to downsize. During that time Martinelli oversaw a $200 million expansion of one base to accommodate the relocation of troops and equipment. Locally, he later supervised drawdown and eventual closings of both Mather and McClellan Air Force Bases. Upon his retirement he Bob went to work with Sacramento City College as Vice President and chief financial officer. City College, one of four colleges in the Los Rios Community College District. The Los Rios system provides education, training and career development opportunities for some 80,000 students annually in over 70 career fields. Today Bob is a member of the board of directors of the California Capital Air Show which is one of the largest and most respected airshow in the united states today. I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Col Martinelli and I hope you do too.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (12/08/2022): 3:00pm- On Tuesday, President Joe Biden announced that his administration successfully negotiated the release of WNBA star Brittney Griner from a Russian detention center. Griner had been accused of carrying illegal vape cartridges. The prisoner swamp involved the Biden Administration agreeing to release Viktor Bout, a Russian arms dealer nicknamed the Merchant of Death. According to reporting from Jim Geraghty of The National Review, “at one point” Bout was “the second-most-wanted man after Osama bin Laden.” 3:15pm- During her Thursday press conference, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre defended the Biden Administration's decision to trade a dangerous arms dealer for a professional athlete in the U.S.-Russia prisoner swap.  3:35pm- On the U.S.-Russia prisoner swap, National Review's Jim Geraghty writes that other nations may now conclude, “the U.S. government will release anyone under enough pressure.” Does this exchange encourage other adversarial nations to wrongfully imprison American citizens, hoping that it can result in valuable concessions? 3:45pm- While appearing on CNN, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the U.S. National Security Council John Kirby emphasized that Paul Whelan—a Marine imprisoned in Russia—was “never a bargaining chip” for Viktor Bout. Why not? And, after releasing Bout, what bargaining chip does the Biden Administration have to encourage Whelan's release?   4:05pm- According to a report from Greg Wilson of The Daily Wire, “Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman helped broker the dramatic prisoner swap between the U.S. and Moscow that sprang WNBA star Brittney Griner from a Russian gulag, days after the Biden administration helped spike a lawsuit against the Saudi ruler.” 4:15pm- David Whelan, the brother of Marine Paul Whelan who has been wrongfully detained by Russia since 2018, told CNN that he and his family were incredibly happy to see Brittney Griner has been freed, but they obviously remain disappointed that Paul remains imprisoned.  4:40pm- Speaking with Martha MacCallum on Fox News, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the U.S. National Security Council John Kirby dismissed the idea that the Griner-Bout prisoner exchange encourages foreign adversaries to abduct Americans.  4:50pm- The Biden Administration's foreign policy blunders didn't start with a lopsided prisoner exchange with Russia. The New York Times released a video essay documenting America's abandonment of allies during the August 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan. Despite being over a year later, tens of thousands of Afghan-allies remain stranded—with many being actively hunted by the Taliban. 5:00pm- While everyone is happy to see Brittney Griner finally released from an unjust Russian detainment, should the Biden Administration have been able to extract more concessions in exchange for Viktor Bout—an individual who, at one point, was considered the second-most wanted man in the world. Listeners react to the prisoner exchange.    5:15pm- During an interview with Variety, Jennifer Lawrence claimed that Hunger Games was the first time Hollywood featured a female actor in an action film. But what about Sigourney Weaver in Aliens, Linda Hamilton in Terminator, Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider…the list goes on and on... 5:30 pm- On CNBC, Harvard University professor Jason Furman—who served as an Economic Advisor in the Obama Administration—warned that a mild recession is likely to occur soon, though it won't necessarily resolve inflation. 5:50pm- The Mystery Movie Clip: Henry plays the whole movie… 6:05pm- During her Thursday press conference, White House Press Secretary referred to Brittney Griner as an “important role model” and defended the Biden Administration's decision to trade a dangerous arms dealer for a professional athlete in the U.S.-Russia prisoner swap. While in high school, Katie suffered from undiagnosed ADHD and struggled academically in her courses. During her senior year, she was overwhelmed with school and did not submit any college applications. At the time, she did not realize that she had alternative options to a four-year degree, and so she ultimately took a gap year to work and consider her own goals. This is when Katie learned about the benefits of pursuing a community college education. During her time at community college, Katie found a community of “vloggers” on YouTube whose main content centered on community college. She began to watch videos focused on study skills and tips for submitting applications. Through these videos, Katie was able to regain stability and motivation. She enrolled at the community college full-time and decided that it was her turn to promote the community college pathway by developing her own vlogs about her educational journey.Today, Katie actively works to spread the word to others about the benefits of a community college education. Using her YouTube channel, the Vintage Academic, as a platform, Katie connects with hundreds of students to provide them with valuable information and vlogs that detail her transfer pathway.Learn more about Katie's story HERE!Follow Katie's journey online! The Vintage Academic: YouTube & InstagramAccepted Consulting: Website & InstagramFind the 2022 Transfer Ambassador winners announcement HERE! #TransferLeadership #TransferStudents #NISTS #TransferPride #TransferSuccess #TransferChampion #TransferAdvocacy #TransferVoiceAtTheTable #TNTalks #TransferNationKeep talking with Transfer NationIG: @WeAreTransferNationTikTok: @TransferNationTwitter: @TransferPrideFB Group: Transfer NationEmail: WeAreTransferNation@gmail.comTalk soon!Show CreditsHost | Dr. Heather AdamsGuest | Katherine IbsenProducers | Sam Kaplan, Brandon RodríguezSound Editing | Abraham Urias

Brought To You By The Trusted Sons- America's Handyman Company 209-269-2727 Mike Mallory, CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties (SHFB) located in Manteca, will tell you “it takes an army to accomplish their mission”, and it does. Fighting Hunger-Feeding Hope! It is a daily challenge accomplished by a committed and dedicated group of stakeholders led by Mike. He will tell you “others make it happen”. Others will tell you “Mike makes it happen”. The reality is with Mike's guidance and leadership, and with the dedication of staff and the commitment of community-minded individuals, together, they accomplish this monumental feat every day.
Mike began as a member of the Board of Directors in 1998. Mike was invited to become the new CEO in 2008. At this time the economy was experiencing significant challenges, and the food bank was faced with equally significant organizational and operational issues.
Mike's leadership led to a restructuring of the board and increased the effectiveness of the food bank. The food bank has grown to include many additional communities including Merced and the Mother Lode that rely on the food bank for food. There is a collaboration of over 100 non-profit agencies that distribute over 15.8 million pounds of food to food pantries and after-school programs serving 365,000 adults, seniors and children that suffer from food insecurity.
Current programs that have expanded or were created under his leadership include: Food 4 Thought, Senior Brown Bag, Mobile Fresh, Green Bag (Go Green for Seniors), Chef Program, Farm to Family and events such as The Chili Cook-Off, Hit the Streets for Hunger, Empty Bowls and Turkeys R Us.
Mike has become the face of Second Harvest Food Bank, but his service continues by being involved and serving on the Wells Fargo Advisory Board, California Food Bank Association, Mountain Valley Express Board and Stanislaus County Healthy Aging Association. Because of his involvement, he has been able to expose the food bank and garner additional support and resources that extend the impact of the agency. Mike and the staff at SHFB are tireless and innovative, working every day to eliminate hunger.
Mike attended and graduated from Sacramento City College in 1975 and Cal Poly-Pomona in 1977. He is married to his best friend Suzanne and is a proud father and grandpa

Right out of Sacramento by way of Valley High School. Jamar Cain joined the Oklahoma football staff as outside linebackers and defensive ends coach on Jan. 31, 2020. Cain comes to Norman from Arizona State where he served the 2019 season as defensive line coach. He was Fresno State's defensive line coach during the 2017-18 seasons and spent the 2014-16 seasons at FCS powerhouse North Dakota State coaching the defensive ends. Hired by Arizona State head coach Herm Edwards in January 2019, Cain coached this past season for a Sun Devils team that finished 8-5 and beat Florida State 20-14 in the Sun Bowl. ASU recorded six takeaways against the Seminoles. With Cain on staff, the Sun Devils' 2019 run defense was significantly better than the year before he arrived. This past season, ASU ranked 26th nationally by allowing 125.1 rushing yards per game, and 24th by permitting 3.5 yards per carry. In 2018, before he was on staff, ASU ranked 74th and 66th, respectively, at 170.5 and 4.3. Cain's defensive line was one of the elements that helped Fresno State compile a 22-6 record over the 2017 and 2018 seasons. The Bulldogs earned a spot in the Mountain West Championship Game both years — they upset No. 16 Boise State 19-16 in the 2018 edition — and won a pair of bowl games. Cain and the rest of Fresno State head coach Jeff Tedford's coaching staff inherited a program coming off of a 1-11 season in 2016. A year before the arrival of the new coaching staff, Fresno State ranked 83rd in the country by allowing 30.9 points per game. Each of the following two seasons, with Cain on board, the Bulldogs ranked in the top 10 nationally in scoring, culminating in a 2018 campaign in which Fresno State finished third in the country by allowing only 14.1 points per game. Notably, after ASU finished with the 123rd-ranked rushing defense (247.4 ypg) in 2016, the Sun Devils boasted the 11th-best rushing defense (113.4 ypg) in 2017 and the 30th-ranked rushing defense (132.1 ypg) in 2018. 2018 first-team All-Mountain West defensive end Mykal Walker enjoyed a breakout junior campaign as part of Cain's defensive line, recording 67 tackles (33 solo) and ranking second in the league in tackles per game (5.6) among linemen. Another member of the defensive line, Jasad Haynes, earned 2018 honorable mention honors after finishing with 18 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. During his first season in Fresno, Cain successfully converted outside linebacker Tobenna Okeke into a second-team All-MWC selection at defensive end after he picked up 11 sacks in 2017. Once again showing his resourcefulness and flexibility with an undermanned roster, Cain also converted inside linebacker Robert Stanley into a defensive end. Stanley earned All-MWC honorable mention honors after producing an 11-sack season. Another member of the 2017 defensive line, Malik Forrester, earned All-MWC honorable mention acclaim after finishing with 29 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and four sacks. During his three seasons at North Dakota State, the Bison compiled a 40-5 record and captured the 2014 and 2015 FCS National Championships. He coached several impact players while in Fargo, none more productive than 2014 Buck Buchanan Award winner Kyle Emanuel, who was recognized as the best defensive player in the FCS. The FCS consensus All-American had 32.5 tackles for loss and 19.5 sacks his senior year. The San Diego Chargers selected him with their fifth-round pick (153rd overall), and he played in 63 games for them over four seasons. Cain also was responsible for the development of FCS All-American defensive end Greg Menard. Menard was nominated for the 2016 Buck Buchanan Award after breaking onto the national scene with a tremendous junior season. Cain spent the 2013 season at Wyoming, serving as defensive line coach and later as interim defensive coordinator. Prior to his time in Laramie, Cain got his first full-time coaching opportunities as a defensive line assistant at the FCS level. He began at Missouri State (2006-08) before making a stop at Cal Poly (2009-12). Cain also participated in the National Football League's minority internship in the summer of 2008 with the Arizona Cardinals. He continued in the program during the summer of 2009 with the Kansas City Chiefs. Immediately following his collegiate playing career, Cain entered the coaching ranks. He spent two seasons as a high school coach and one year as an assistant coach at Sacramento City College before getting his opportunity at the FBS level as a defensive graduate assistant during the 2005 season at Ohio University under head coach Frank Solich. His responsibilities at Ohio were with the defensive ends. A native of Sacramento, Calif., Cain played two seasons at New Mexico State and graduated in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in family consumer sciences. He started his college football career at Sacramento City College, where he was a first-team all-state selection playing two seasons as a defensive lineman for the Panthers. He transferred to NMSU, where he was a 2002 second-team All-Sun Belt Conference pick.

Biscaha was the first national champion since the late, Jeff Blatnick (1978, 1979). Hailing from the Bay Area, Gales competed for Santa Rosa Junior College from 2005-07 while earning his associate's degree. This afforded him an opportunity to wrestle for the late, Hall of Fame and National Championship Coach, Lars Jensen at San Francisco State University. As a Gator, Gales placed in the region twice, earned scholar all-america honors, and qualified for the NCAA DII Championships. The California native earned a Master's in Sport and Exercise Psychology while at Springfield. He went on to become the Head Coach at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) from 2013-19. Gales led the Trinity Bantams to 2 NCAA DIII Qualifiers in his first season as head coach - a feat not accomplished at Trinity since 2001. This successful run led Gales to be one of three coaches to share the 2014 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Rookie Coach of the Year honors. He concluded an impressive stint at Trinity with three NCAA DIII qualifiers and six NWCA Scholar All-Americans. On This Episode: We are excited to welcome former College World Series champion, Big League pitcher, and current Cal Baseball Head Coach Mike Neu to the podcast. There aren’t many things in the game of baseball that Neu hasn’t accomplished. He started his college career playing for baseball legend Jerry Weinstein at Sacramento City College where he won a state title before transferring to University of Miami. At Miami, Neu was an All-American pitcher and recorded the final out of the College World Series for the champion Hurricanes. Neu was drafted out of Miami by the Reds and worked his way to the Big Leagues where he pitched with both the A’s and Marlins. After his playing career ended, Neu started out as an assistant coach at Diablo Valley CC before quickly assuming the head coaching role at DVC. He made his first move to Cal as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. He left Cal in 2015 to become the Head Coach at University of Pacific (D1 in Stockton, CA) and after helping turn the program around, returned to lead the Cal program in 2018. In his first two years as the Head Coach at Cal, Neu has coached the Golden Spikes winner in Andrew Vaughn and lead the Golden Bears to an NCAA Regional Appearance. He has a reputation as an outstanding recruiter and if his career to this point is any indication, Neu and the Bears will have continued success as they look to return to Omaha. Bob Carroll - Defining Skepticism

Dr. Robert Todd Carroll is a Fellow of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry, and author of The Skeptic's Dictionary: A Collection of Strange Beliefs, Amusing Deceptions, and Dangerous Delusions. He is Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at Sacramento City College, where he taught Logic and Critical Reasoning, Critical Thinking about the Paranormal, Law, Justice and Punishment, and World Religions. He is also author of the textbook Becoming a Critical Thinker. Bob is the creator of the popular website Skepdic.com, which features numerous essays and book reviews, and the Skeptimedia blog where he provides a commentary of media coverage of pseudoscience and the paranormal. But the focus of the site is the original online version of the Skeptic’s Dictionary, containing hundreds of entries on topics ranging from “abracadabra to zombies”. This is the resource for defining skepticism. In this episode, Karen Stollznow talks with Bob about the importance of defining the topics of which we are skeptical. They discuss the inadequacies of existing definitions of paranormal and pseudoscientific subjects, and why it is necessary to counter uncritical bias with explanations that are skeptical. However, the damning evidence (or lack-thereof) usually speaks for itself. Bob reveals the top searches to his site, uncovering the themes that should be of particular concern to skeptics. He explains that his online book is reader-driven, and that user feedback and assistance has molded the shape of this dynamic resource. Even with 600 current entries in this encyclopedia-like dictionary, this is a work-in-progress that will never be finished. Bob discusses skeptical activism, becoming a skeptic, and how to invent your own pseudoscience to learn critical thinking. As a life-long teacher of this topic, Bob explains that critical thinking needs to be taught, but also needs to be learned critically. We discuss how much critical thinking can or should be taught, and how much is a process of self-learning.
