Find out about these elusive giant rodents, their purpose and place in nature, and learn how to spot them in trees. We also learn about citizen science, which is an essential part of any environmental research project. Citizen science enables anyone, including kids, to be on the research team. This show is mixed with great music celebrating porcupines.
There has been a new development in the U.S. campaign to try to undermine the Beijing Olympics. Peng Shaui gave an interview to a Singapore newspaper, in which she sent a public message to the WTA: 1) She reaffirmed that she had never said she was sexually assaulted 2) She rejected WTA boss Simon's recommendation for surveillance of her 3) She reaffirmed that her previous e-mail was written by her, of her own free will, and reflected her own views. 4) Contrary to the Guardian, she didn't retract a claim of sexual assault. She reaffirms that she had never claimed she was sexually assaulted. Contrast the treatment of Peng Shuai by the Western media with its treatment of the "Two Michaels." Chinese Ambassador to Canada Cong pointed out on December 10 that the "Two Michaels" had signed confessions that they had violated Chinese national security laws as part of the process of return to Canada. While the Western media relentlessly pursued Peng, they have studiously avoided pursuing neither the 2 Michaels, nor the Canadian government to determine its views on Ambassador Cong's claim. Clearly, the Western media has determined in advance of its journalism that China (like Russian and Iran) are BAD, and our media's job therefore is to harass Chinese sports figures and officials. All-the-while giving Western figures an easy ride.
Alejandro Morales tells Phil about the "social explosion" of young people of 2019 in Chile in reaction to the policies of the Conservative President. Despite voter suppression efforts by the Conservative coalition, including the shutting down of private transport companies, the left-wing candidate Gabriel Boric won by more than 10%. Phil calls the vote a complete reversal of the US-led coup by Pinochet in 1973 after which 1000s of leftists were jailed and killed, the constitution changed, and the inhuman economic policies of Milton Friedman (privatization, neo-liberalism) were enforced. A new progressive constitution is already being written by the Constituent Assembly composed equally of men and women to deal with hot issues in Chile, such as pensions. Nicaragua, Mexico, Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela have all recently elected progressive governments. It is a social movement sweeping Latin America.

This conversation was held Live on the day of the court ruling in the UK against Julian Assange, founder and publisher of WikiLeaks. The British Court of Appeal ruled that Assange could be extradited to the US to face charges under the Espionage Act of 1917. The WikiLeaks website came to international attention in 2010 when it published a series of documents and films provided by U.S. Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning. These leaks included the Baghdad airstrike Collateral Murder video and the Afghanistan war logs. All with evidence of war crimes. Six years later WikiLeaks published the Democratic National Committee email leaks which showed attempts to denigrate the Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign and promote the candidacy of Hillary Clinton. Julian Assange was blamed for having helped Trump win the election. However the Trump administration, with Attorney General William Barr, showed no gratitude for Assange's alleged support. On May 23, 2019, they charged him with violating the Espionage Act of 1917 and raised the bar for him to 175 years in prison and demanded his extradition from the UK. Ironically the current Biden administration fully endorses the Donald Trump charges. Among the voices who condemn the granting of the extradition request are fellow journalists, publishers and defenders of free speech and whistle blowers. However among those who get their information from commercial media prejudice and bias towards Julian Assange clouds the issue. They call him a hacker, one who damaged the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign and a rapist. Allegations that even clouded the view of todays guest, UN Special Rapporteur on Torture Nils Melzer. What follows is an in depth exploration of the prejudice against Assange - who so urgently needs support - and where it is based on lies and illegal court proceedings. On these matters at this time nobody is more qualified than UN Special Rapporteur on Torture and professor of international law at the University of Glasgow., Nils Melzer. Katie Halper and Matt Taibbi spoke to him on Decekbeer10,2021. Matt Taibbi is an American author, journalist, and podcaster. He has reported on finance, media, politics, and sports. He is a contributing editor for Rolling Stone, and co-host, with Katie Halper, of Useful Idiots. Katie Halper is a comedian, writer, filmmaker, podcaster, and political commentator. She is the host of the podcast The Katie Halper Show. Nils Melzer refers to his book The Trial of Julian Assange, due out in February 2022. You can find the over one hour program by Katie Halper and Matt Taibbi on YouTube and the Useful Idiots channel under Assange.
