They also discuss the inspiration for the story and characters, the immense amount of research that needed to be done, and the personal connection she had to not only the subject matter but the characters and the meaning behind the name of the book's titular character! All this and more on this week's episode! For more information on the guest and the subject matter discussed, please refer to the links below. Shark Bites is back again, and I've got another awesome author interview to share with you! This week I bring you Timothy Miller, and his debut novel, The Strange Case of Eliza Doolittle! We discuss his inspiration, questionable life choices (chasing a man who had a gun through Nawlins for example), life in Milan helping him create art, his lifetime of travels and interesting things he's seen, and what's next! Plus a shark fact (I hope it's a new one) and a preview of what's coming up for Shark Bites in the future! Pick up the book from your preferred retailer here: https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/The-Strange-Case-of-Eliza-Doolittle/Timothy-Miller/9781645060215 Synopsis: "London is in flux. The clop of the hansom cab has given way to the madness of the motorcar. And Sherlock Holmes, safe in the bee-loud glades of the Sussex downs, is lured back to London when a problem is posed to him by Dr. Watson and Watson’s friend, Col. Higgins. Is the transformation of Eliza Doolittle from girl of the streets to duchess more than it seems? Is it really the work of Henry Higgins’s phonetics lessons or has another girl been substituted for her, and why? Has the original girl been murdered? Even Eliza’s father can’t say for sure. Posing as a rich American gangster, Holmes infiltrates the Higgins household. He meets Freddy, a seemingly ubiquitous suitor, and the mysterious Baron Von Stettin, Bavarian attaché. He brushes up against a doctor whose potions can turn Eliza from a spitfire into a kitten. And he faces a deadly enemy who had been thought dead for twenty years. The world of Sherlock Holmes will never be the same." This week I am joined by a whole slew of independent creators that are joining me to discuss their various projects! From filmmakers to comic creators to podcasters and dollmakers, this episode has it all! To help support the folks on this episode, and to find out more about their projects, click the links below! Because of the length of the episode, you get your shark fact right here! The oldest shark ever discovered was a Greenland shark believed by scientists to be 512 years old! This would put its birth in 1508. To put that in perspective, William Shakespeare was born in 1564. This week I am joined by talented creator Addison Binek to discuss his Kickstarter for Roastmasterpiece theater! He is raising money to license two films in order to continue his passion for loving tributes to Mystery Science Theater 3000! Addison has done over 120 episodes of his series "Movies to Watch on a Rainy Afternoon" (https://www.youtube.com/user/JABproducts) in which he takes films and boils them down to 15-20 riff-and-skit-filled minutes for your viewing pleasure! Armed with his friends/writing partners/voices of the puppets, they also did two episodes of Tromasterpiece Theater in which Lloyd Kaufman chose two Troma films for them to riff on! Please go support Addison's Kickstarter, the proceeds of which will go to license two more films for the guys to riff on! There are a lot of great perks, and only a short time left to get in on them! This week I am simply reading the Wikipedia entries for several Black folks whose names we need to remember, and while this is not a complete list, I do provide as much of the story as necessary to drive home the point of why people not only in this country but all over the world are clamoring for massive changes to the policies and procedures of law enforcement. I play no music, nor do I play any ads. BlackLivesMatter Send us your feedback online: https://pinecast.com/feedback/shark-bites/78911295-a9dd-4e43-bb92-fb28dff473cd
This week I am joined by Captain Andy Diceman, Jordan of Amalga-Mania's many offerings, and Leo, King of the Dorkening! We have a great time discussing Mel Brooks' 1993 film Robin Hood: Men in Tights, our experiences with the film, and some of the connections to other movies Mel has made over the years. I also intentionally aired this episode a day late because of the social media blackout that was occurring. I give some of my thoughts on that at the end of the episode, along with some harsh words for racists. These three gentlemen hop aboard the handcar and steer away from the quicksand to talk about one of the best comedies and best western films of all time - Blazing Saddles! From quotes to trivia to their favorite Mel Brooks movies, I get the most out of these gentlemen and we have a lot of fun reminiscing and quoting not only this but Mel's other films as well. There's also a new Dorkening ad and a brief review of the Tripwire Interactive game Maneater that ties in with my weekly Shark Fact.
This week I am joined by a quartet of fantastic ladies who are offering up some advice for how they are keeping themselves mentally healthy and sane while dealing with the restrictions imposed upon us by the guidelines that are affecting all of us. They each offer a unique perspective and share their day to day experiences as they try to maintain their personal routines while also attending college, raising kids, or dealing with not being able to do their job because of the need for social distancing. They also talk about the fact that no matter how strong you are, how independent you are, or are good you are at taking care of yourself, it's okay to ask for help. And don't compare your levels of productivity now to what they were three or six months ago because things are definitely not the same. All this plus a preview for the coming weeks, a new shark fact, and some new ads - and an upcoming contest!Send us your feedback online: https://pinecast.com/feedback/shark-bites/94ce407a-fcdd-40d0-8221-1fd22804ca75
This week I'm joined by Old Man Wade and Powerful Brandon to discuss the characters we would like to see introduced into both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Extended Universe, as well as the actors who we'd like to see bring those roles to life! In between the picks, there are jokes, inappropriate comments, and the occasional coherent thought. Or as we like to refer to it, "A typical conversation between the three of us". This week I am joined by Andy Diceman from Epic Tales, a part of the Amalga-Mania group we all know and love! Andy is here to bring knowledge to the table and help teach those of us (like me) how we can start or maintain a Dungeons and Dragons (or really any RPG/tabletop game) group in the Days of Social Distancing. He gives us a variety of options not only for virtual meeting apps and software, but also ways to create and maintain characters, play games without dice or game manuals, and much more! He even kindles in me a desire to become a dungeon master, which I never knew I was interested in doing! All this plus a very positive message for those who aren't handling the isolation we're all faced with, with as much enthusiasm as they might like. All this and more on this week's episode! After missing a week, I'm back to talk about handicapped accessibility at concert venues. I get pretty fired up and I think I edited out all the coughing fits I had because I am still sick, but my voice is back enough to get this out in the world. Handicap accessibility is an important issue and one that, as an able-bodied person, I just never gave much thought to until this past weekend.
