3 years down the drain. To celebrate, we brought back the concept of Episode 0 to play "Is This Band Emo" with emo writers and friends of the pod Ian Cohen, David Anthony and Eric Grubbs. A very appropriate culmination of how far we've gotten in the 3 years of The E Word and showing how far we've come to understand emo. Thanks for sticking with us for so long.
Hayden and Damian from For Your Health finally get on the pod to detail their debut LP, give us the crash-course history of FYH, talk Twitter and more. We dedicate some pod time to react to the election. We end by talking about Title Fight and MCR. "In Spite Of" is out February 12 on Twelve Gauge Records.

With very little on the agenda, podcast superstar Tim Crisp (Better Yet, As You Were, Road to Skeleton Coast, Life's Work) joins us to talk political doom, his relationship with emo + DIY, podcast longevity, music industry facades, and lots more.

The E Word's summer vacation of shutting up is over. We kept our promise of returning to have a conversation about how DIY moves forward now that we've responded to the ongoing racial injustice. We welcome Greg, co-owner of Solidarity Club Records, to have that important conversation with us. It's a pretty heavy talk, but we're glad we had it. Thank you so much to Greg for sharing their thoughts, experiences, and knowledge with us. Pick up records from them at https://www.solidarityclubrecords.com/

The E Word invades The MacGuffin Podcast, a film podcast run by an OG E Word listener, Cassidy. We talked about Donnie Darko and Emo: The Musical, and emo in the media in general. Great chat that you'll enjoy if you fuck with our podcast. Please note that this podcast was recorded prior to the nation-wide protests. We will not be recording any new podcasts during this time in solidarity of what's happening.
On May 29, 2020, The Brave Little Abacus' sophomore LP, "Just Got Back From the Discomfort—We're Alright" celebrates it's 10 year anniversary. Actually they weren't going to celebrate... we made them aware of the anniversary that they were about to overlook. The E Word's most requested guest, Adam Demirjian from TBLA, guests on this podcast deep-dive the landmark album and give us a proper documentation of the band's story.
With emo's stock plummeting and hardcore's rising, we called up Grey Gordon (whose qualifications in hardcore, emo, and podcasts run deep) to bring you emos an accessible guide to get you into hardcore.
Here is your Emo Freshman Class 2020. This year we're joined by two alumni, David from Charmer and Roddie from niiice., to bring you the list. Thank you all for voting in such a diverse and excellent class this year.
A cool down episode. ADUTI is done --- what did we learn? What did we miss? Where does The E Word go from here? Alex from INFANT ISLAND joins us to talk about it. We also asked for your questions and we answered most of those.
The end of ADUTI. It's the Steel City Special. Owen from Shin Guard + Alex and Ryan from Short Fictions join us to wrap up 2019. Thanks for joining us on this series.
We return to finish off our dissection of Vulture's 100 Greatest Emo Songs list. We run thru the heavy-hitters and the head-scratchers on the spots at #50 and up.
The final ADUTI album episode. Ryland returns to the podcast for the third time. This time as our winner for 2019. We deep dive "Somewhere City" via Gami's epic journey to the album release and then we dig into the music and lyrics behind the new classic.
Vulture published the list 100 Best Emo Songs of All Time by David Anthony, Nina Corcoran, Emma Garland, and Brad Nelson. Of course we are dissecting it. We invited Collins from the band closure. and Seth from Repeater Records to break down the list. We got way over our heads and this is going to be a two part session.
Like every other podcast in the past month, we got Kory Gregory from Prince Daddy & The Hyena on the podcast. We made Kory talk about all the records that came out in 2018. Two more episodes left in the A Decade Under The Influence series.

We're going out of order. We talk about 2017 with punk journalist David Anthony (ex- AV Club, Noisey, As You Were Podcast, etc. etc. etc.) This way y'all voted on this one, coupled with the vast amount of releases, made it quite an interesting year to dissect.
2 years of The E Word. We finally allowed Roddie from niiice. on the podcast and opened the call lines for people to call in. 5 people called in and then stayed on the line to talk about topics and takes submitted by our followers. Thanks for supporting us for two years.

It's finally here. We talk the entire of 2015 with Corey Purvis, who worked closely with many records on this list, and big-time emo advocate and musician, Isaac from Barely Civil. We also talk a lot of James Cassar.
Ellie sits down with three of the most engaged people in the current DIY scene to talk about the past, present, and future of political engagement and activism in the world of emo and screamo. Topics discussed include 90s hardcore, veganism, PC backlash, “cancel culture,” irony-poisoning, casual racism, and staying above the toxicity of internet discourse. Ellie isn't the world's best editor or sound engineer, so the audio during Megan's interview is a little fucky, but bear with us and we think you'll have a great time.
Keith Lantinen from Empire! Empire! I Was A Lonely Estate and Count Your Lucky Stars Records comes on the podcast to talk about the rest of 2013 and 2014. We start off with hearing about Keith is up to now… some exciting news right off the bat. p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica; color: #454545} p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica; color: #454545; min-height: 14.0px} This episode takes us through 2013 and 2014 from tons of different perspectives- lots of Keith stories from touring with all of the bands on the list + Ellie and Kyle's takes on the records as they were coming out and being passed around the internet.
Ellie and Kyle guested on a DIY podcast called Invite the Neighbors. It's a very collaborative talk between the two podcasts so we thought we'd both upload the podcast into our feeds. Follow Invite the Neighbors everywhere. Bryan rocks!
Christian Holden from The Hotelier comes on the podcast to talk about your 2014 ADUTI winner, “Home, Like NoPlace Is There.”We take a giant dive into what has been heralded as the best album of the emo revival. Tank, Algernon Cadwallader's drummer, comes on the podcast to talk about our 2011 ADUTI winner, "Parrot Flies." The LP is a podcast favorite and we couldn't be any more excited to talk to about it with someone in the band. We talk about the record track-by-track, where Algernon was leading up to the record and also the mark it's left on emo for good.
Ellie and Kyle discuss the rest of the year of 2010 for emo. We talk about when the revival actually starts, where we were and where we saw emo being talked about in that year, etc. We talk extensively about the albums on the ballot, just generally took shots at each other and looked at a lot of Discogs entries.
The only way to follow up episodes with Ian Cohen and Snowing would be to welcome on two members of team Chillwavve: Robert and Ben + Chillwavve recording artist Collins from closure. We talk about the Chillwavve history and mysteries + Collins' history with Syracuse emo. We blast through a shit ton of news, too.
All four members of Snowing are on the podcast for the first episode of the Decade Under the Influence series, to dive into the 2010 winner, "I Could Do Whatever I Wanted If I Wanted." This episode gets incredibly in-depth about where Snowing was at before the album, then diving in track-by-track, and then talking a bit about the reunion shows and what happened after the album came out. Still can't believe this episode happened. Endless thank you to Snowing for being down to talk about the record and giving a massively important record.
We have Ian Cohen (!!!) on the podcast. We got Ian on in late December to record an episode all about dissecting emo-pop. We wanted to keep the conversation going about the current climate of emo, so we recorded a second part a month later. What we have is two parts in one episode with one of the most relevant music writers to the genre today and we were thrilled to have him on.
