» Flavie Fillipon, Elle « On songe à Stefan Zweig.

What if we recasted Michael Bay's 1996 classic "The Rock?"Ash Hurry joins us once again to break down why this film stands as possibly Bay's greatest achievement and the culmination of Nicolas Cage's action movie trilogy. • Exploring the James Bond theory: Sean Connery's character John Mason is actually an older James Bond who was captured and imprisoned• Michael Bay's filmography and how "The Rock" represents his peak before the Transformers era• The anti-villain brilliance of Ed Harris's General Hummel – threatening but ultimately unwilling to follow through• Standout scenes including the shower room speech by Michael Biehn and the green smoke finale • Chemistry between Cage and Connery creates the perfect action movie pairing, similar to other great duos in film history• And of course, our fun recasting game, where we reimagine the film with modern actors (Nick), DC universe actors (Ash), and professional wrestlers (Cory).Check out our social media for more content and to join the conversation about your favorite action movie duos and scenes from The Rock. On this episode we are joined by the Sioux Falls SD indie rock band Shurr Jr. In 2015, siblings Nick and Frankie began writing music and jamming together in their mother's garage, drawing inspiration from Elliott Smith, the Avett Brothers, Title Fight, and Charmer. At the time, their sister Kelly Maxwell was teaching herself to play guitar, often listening and vibing along to their creations. The trio's musical journey took on a deeper, more personal meaning after the loss of their father, Frank—an influential member of the Omaha, NE band Fifth of May. In honor of Frank's legacy, the siblings turned to music as a way to channel their grief and keep his spirit alive. The band's name, “Sure, Junior,” is a loving tribute to Frank's iconic catchphrase. This provocative question sits at the heart of the 1993 film "Indecent Proposal," and it's made Cory lose sleep, even thirty years later.Cory and Nick analyze this infamous film, noting how the first act brilliantly establishes the tension, only for the film to transform from erotic thriller into romantic comedy. Would the power dynamics shift with our modern understanding of consent? And which current actors could step into these iconic roles for a remake?Listen now and then ask your partner the million-dollar question - their answer might surprise you! Thanks for listening; If you feel like supporting us, this is where you do that!Patreon (Just a buck to show your support!)BuyMeACoffee Check out or other content/socials here. In this episode we go back to the 1800;s to meet two Missouri witches. First we meet the Witch of Taskee who lived in Taskee Station Missouri and astounded those who saw her with her clairvoyance, that came when she was possessed by a spirit that called itself Little Joe. Josie Forbes was reported far and wide for her abilities, even using them to solve crimes! Then we head back to the turn of the 19th Century and meet the Wild Witch of Victoria Missouri in one Prudence Bevins, a part Cherokee woman who seemed to be able to curse the locals and when confronted about being a witch would merely laugh. She was called Queen Bevers and her power was legendary, only occasionally thwarted by the country magic of a local witch charmer. Finding yourself dreading Turkey Day? Cory and Nick deep dive the holiday from a cinematic point of view, to help you find movies and TV episodes to watch, as they try to figure out what qualifies as a "Thanksgiving Movie." As a bonus, they both recast the classic, holiday buddy road trip, "Planes, Trains, & Automobiles" in different years! As the leaves turn and the air gets crisp, we find ourselves reflecting on Thanksgiving—a holiday often overshadowed by its festive neighbors, Halloween and Christmas. Why does Thanksgiving seem to linger in the background while the rest of the world rushes to deck the halls? Join us as we share some personal tales of turkey day traditions, from football to family feasts, and ponder the lack of a solid Thanksgiving cinematic universe. We roll up our sleeves and take on the curious mystery of Thanksgiving movies—or the glaring lack thereof. What makes a movie fit for this autumnal festivity? Is it the aroma of home-cooked meals or the golden hue of falling leaves? We debate the classics like "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving," and stretch our imaginations, wondering if films like "Dead Poets Society" or "Knives Out" could fit the bill. It's a fun, nostalgic exploration that will have you rethinking your holiday watch list and maybe even considering a "rogue" Thanksgiving choice.Whether you're lounging in your stretchy pants post-feast, or dreading the possible awkward conversations ahead, this episode promises a hearty helping of holiday options. What if the internet is warping our perception of movies? On this episode of Quantum Recast, Ash Hurry rejoins Cory & Nick to tackle the polarizing reactions to "Joker: Folie à Deux", and attempt to defend this already infamous sequel. They stand firm in our support of Todd Phillips' ambitious sequel, exploring why it deserves more than the mixed reviews it's received. With insights into the film's production and a spotlight on stellar additions like Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix, they argue for approaching the movie with an open mind, free from the biases amplified by critics and social media platforms like Rotten Tomatoes.Social media's role in shaping film opinions is more significant than ever, and we explore how instant online reactions can be misleading. Hear how they discuss the dynamics of audience expectations and how films like "Joker 2" and "Terrifier 3" challenge the status quo, and the evolution of film ratings and the potential pitfalls of relying too heavily on scores from sites like IMDb. Encouraging a more personal journey in film discovery, they dive into the importance of shedding preconceived notions and breaking free from the conditioning that big-name franchises have instilled in us.The Joker character has long been a symbol of chaos and unpredictability, and Phillips' take on the iconic villain pushes boundaries in unexpected ways. The crew delve into the artistic intentions behind the film, the exploration of mental health themes, and the challenges of reimagining such a well-known character. They even touch on the broader implications of audience reactions and the impact of societal expectations on storytelling in today's media landscape. Join us in this exploration of cinematic innovation, and let's rethink what it means to appreciate a film for its artistic value, rather than its adherence to convention. Thanks for listening; If you feel like supporting us, this is where you do that!Patreon (Just a buck to show your support!)BuyMeACoffee Check out or other content/socials here. Chapter 1:Summary of The Art of Seduction"The Art of Seduction" by Robert Greene is a self-help book that explores the dynamics of seduction as a tool for influence and power. Published in 2001, the book offers a detailed and comprehensive look at the strategies and tactics of seduction based on historical and fictional figures known for their seductive prowess. The book is divided into two main sections:1. The Seductive Character: Greene outlines different types of seductive characters, each with unique traits that attract people in different ways. These types include the Siren, the Rake, the Ideal Lover, the Dandy, the Natural, the Coquette, the Charmer, the Charismatic, and the Star. Each type is exemplified through historical or literary figures, illustrating how their particular style of seduction allowed them to exert influence and control.2. The Seductive Process: This section breaks down the seduction process into a series of phases and strategies. Greene explores tactics that range from creating mystery and stirring desire, to leading the target towards a point of surrender. The strategies are described in a step-by-step format, providing readers with a toolkit that aims to make the art of seduction predictable and manipulable.Greene uses a mix of psychological insights and historical anecdotes to discuss how mastering the art of seduction can lead to power and influence. He also draws on the writings of philosophers and insights from psychology to provide a theoretical foundation for his strategies.Overall, "The Art of Seduction" is not just about romantic or sexual seduction, but about how to influence others by appealing to their deepest desires and emotions. Critics of the book point out that it could be seen as manipulative, encouraging a form of psychological manipulation for personal gain. Supporters, however, view it as a useful guide to understanding social dynamics and improving interpersonal skills.Chapter 2:The Theme of The Art of Seduction"The Art of Seduction" by Robert Greene is a self-help book that explores the dynamics of manipulation and seduction as a tool for power and influence. The book draws from historical figures and literature, using them as examples to illustrate various methods and aspects of seduction. While not a narrative fiction book with a traditional plot or character development arcs, the book discusses concepts and strategies related to seduction through the lens of seducers and their strategies. Here are some key points and themes discussed in the book:1. Key Plot Points (Concepts & Strategies):- The Seductive Character: Greene categorizes seducers into several types, such as the Siren, the Rake, the Ideal Lover, the Dandy, the Natural, and the Charmer, each with specific traits and strategies for seducing.- Phases of Seduction: The book outlines four phases of seduction - attracting attention, creating pleasurable associations, bringing about a state of confusion leading to anticipation, and creating a sense of addiction and obsession in the target.- Seductive Process: Greene explains steps and tactics including choosing the right victim, creating a false sense of security, sending mixed signals, appearing as an object of desire, and master the art of insinuation.2. Character Development:- The development is more focused on how readers can develop themselves into more seductive individuals by understanding and adopting various seductive traits and practices. Each type of seducer is illustrated with historical and fictional examples, helping readers visualize how these traits could be manifested and adapted.3. Thematic Ideas:- Power and Manipulation: The most prevalent theme in the book is the use of seduction as a form of power. Seduction is portrayed not just in romantic or sexual contexts but as a broad method of...

In this episode we give focus to our drive, in our work. Our work is a primary, if not the primary focus of our lives, at least from a daily time and energy devotion. The message here is in relation to the interviewing process, but as you'll hear, so much of it relates to our lives overall. In any relationship and opportunity there is an aspect of selling yourself and often a struggle between being yourself and feeling you are performing. I was recently introduced to Anna Papalia who is one of our leading authorities on the new science of interviewing. Now, I've been a lifetime entrepreneur who has never technically interviewed for a traditional job, but as I read Anna's research I was made acutely aware that as an entrepreneur I spend a lot of my time interviewing for opportunities. Selling myself. And to that degree, we all are. Which is why I wanted to bring this conversation to you. Anna's research is now culminated in her new book, “Interviewology” where it categorizes all of us in four interview styles - The Charmer, the Challenger, the Examiner, and the Harmonizer. The three keys we discuss are, 1) understand your own style, 2) understand how to fully embrace your style in interviews and be completely authentic when you're selling yourself, and 3) understand the other styles so you can tap into them when you are being interviewed, or you are interviewing, so you can better connect with the other person and vastly increase your chances of success. And success may mean helping you realize the job or person is a completely bad fit, which is vital to know! The book again is Interviewology and you can go to interviewology.com to find out what your style is. By the end of this conversation however, you'll have clarity on what your style is and how to fully utilize it. "Don't judge a book by its cover" is an old adage for a good reason. Elegant book cover designs can create a positive impression and make you more likely to judge the writing quality more positively. But these traits—cover art and writing—are separate and distinct features of books. So why do we allow the judgment of one trait to spill over to another unrelated trait? In this episode of Choiceology with Katy Milkman, we look at a tendency to allow our judgments of one trait of a person (or product or company) to overly influence our judgments of another, unrelated trait of that same person or product or company. The Traitors is a popular reality TV show, where contestants are assigned either the role of a "Faithful" or "Traitor." Those selected as Traitors eliminate Faithfuls each night and try to keep their identity a secret so the Faithfuls don't vote to eliminate them. By the end of the game, over $100,000 is up for grabs for those left standing. But how can the Faithfuls sniff out the Traitors and decide whom to banish? How do people form judgments of others and decide whom to trust? Wilfred Webster was a contestant on The Traitors, Season 1, on the BBC and played the game brilliantly, leveraging the way he appeared to other contestants to make it to the end. Wilfred Webster is the runner up to The Traitors, Season 1, on the BBC. Before The Traitors, Will managed face-to-face fundraising for one of the largest charities in the U.K. Today, he's a content creator and fundraising consultant. Next, Katy speaks with Daniel Read about his research on how our evaluations of a person or product or company on a single trait can spill over and excessively influence our judgments of that same person or product or company on another, separate trait. You can learn more in Daniel's recent paper titled "CSR Halo: The Gift that Keeps on Giving?"Daniel Read is a professor of behavioral science at Warwick Business School at The University of Warwick in the U.K. Choiceology is an original podcast from Charles Schwab.
