Samantha Nzessi is back - which is good because we need to break down all this sexism that is raging in our faces. From the outfits they make women wear in sports, to letting Simone Biles take care of her mental health to do what she needs to do, and in the entertainment world Scar Jo vs. Disney. In the main korner it is a news story that is the blend of classism and privilege, and racism and homophobia all intersecting in the conviction of Ed Buck murderer of Queer Black men. Samantha as usual sends us through a deep dive of the fuckery of Hip-Hop, which we love, but need to callout and this time it's DeBaby and his comments and views of our beloved Lil Nas X who is challenging us all of our own fears and insecurities. On today's episode, Jason and Producer Rob G share their thoughts on the Los Angeles Lakers' wild play-in victory over the Golden State Warriors. Steph Curry looked as good as ever lighting up the Lakers for 37 points, but it was a one-eyed (seriously) LeBron James who hit the dagger 3-pointer to give the Lakers the win. LeBron, Anthony Davis and Dennis Schroder were flat out bad for most of the game, but The King and AD made just enough plays in the fourth quarter to steal the win. All the same, they'll need to play much better if they have any hope of repeating as NBA champion. Speaking of winning titles, after what we saw from Steph and Draymond Green last night - not to mention the return of Klay Thompson and a slew of assets - perhaps the Warriors championship window isn't closed after all. Later, legendary sports columnist Peter Vecsey joins the show for a fiery discussion covering a myriad of topics, including: why he supports Kwame Brown in his recent social media war against former players and analysts, his affinity for Larry Bird and eventual falling out with Magic Johnson, why he thinks that Charles Barkley is a fraud that never maximized his potential during or after his NBA his career, how 'Dr. J' Julius Erving ended up becoming the best man at his wedding back in the day, his big issue with the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame, his yet-to-be-finished book featuring behind-the-scenes stories about Bird, Magic, Michael Jordan, and much more! Bethany Clift's debut has come out at JUST the write time. 'Last One at the Party' tells the story of a woman alone on Earth, after humanity has been wiped out by a virus. We talk about how the idea came on a long, lonely journey, and how she got to know the character that readers would be spending so much time with. It's one of the publisher's lead titles this year, and the film rights have already been sold, so it's set for success. We discuss how her background in film production helped her visualise and plan the story slightly differently, and why she owes so much to her editor. Steve and Ian would be remiss if they didn’t kick off this week’s episode of Indiecast with a discussion of the Morrissey/Simpsons controversy, wherein The Smiths’ singer called the show’s depiction of him “hurtful” and “racist.”The main crux of this episode, however, returns to the Indiecast Hall Of Fame, which was designed to honor albums in the indie rock and alternative rock realm that were influential and beloved at the time of their release, but have since been lost to the test of time and sadly — some might say shamefully — left out of the widely accepted canon of the genre. After an episode paying tribute to albums by Counting Crows, The Promise Ring, and more, Steve and Ian are now turning their attention to efforts from Saves The Day, Megafaun, Secret Machines, and Unkle. In this week’s recommendation corner, Steve is boosting the forthcoming new EP from DIY power-pop icon Pronoun, entitled OMG I Made It. Ian is shouting out Snow Ellet, whose latest effort Suburban Indie Rock Star is out now.
Jeremy Swayman was so stellar in his NHL debut, making 40 saves to lead the Boston Bruins to a 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.
