Jakob hat erst gedacht der Songtitel wäre eine Redewendung in der englischen Sprache. Was sie aber gar nicht – er hat sich das also praktisch selbst ausgedacht. Das kam so: Papageien sind dafür berühmt, dass sie das nachsagen und immer wieder wiederholen, was man ihnen beibringt. Das kann negativ sein oder eben positiv – wenn es so ein Mantra ist –  Free from Pain, free from Pain – Der Papagei sagt ich bin frei von Schmerzen, immer und immer wieder. Dadurch entsteht ein Focus ich bekomme in den Blick auf was es gerade ankommt. Und wenn ich weiß auf was es ankommt, dann kommt in meiner Gegenwart die Zukunft in den Blick, ohne, dass ich die Gegenwart verloren geht.Gegenwart ist genau JETZTManchmal haben wir unseren Kopf in den Wolken, oder sind immer zwei Schritte voraus, wenn das so ist, verlieren wir unsere Gegenwart. Natürlich ist es gut Hoffnung und Pläne zu haben, aber diese Wege brauchen ihren Startpunkt eben – vor der Haustür und nicht in einem Wolkenschloss. Idea: An AI-based parrot that would observe communications between a salesperson or customer service person and a client and help "grease the wheels" of communication. Parrots are instinctually busy-bodies. In their natural habitat, they are nomadic and have very few limitations on the ways they can physically interact with their living space. This is how they will live within your home unless you clearly establish where you want them to go and how you want them to do it.This requires consistent positive reinforcement training. The endgame being allowing your parrot to be out in the house in a way that is harmonious with you and your family's lifestyle. You can accomplish this by showing your parrot that existing with boundaries is a rewarding experience for both of you.Stationing is the practice of training your parrot to be placed somewhere and stay there. We'll discuss why stationing is so crucial to the success of your bird longterm. There should be a minimum of three stations in your home that are designated bird-friendly spaces: the enclosure, your hand, and a third space such as a play stand that has been outfitted with a great deal of enrichment.So, how do we get the parrot to identify that an area is a safe space for them to behave like the bird they are? Participation and treats! Engage with your bird and fill that space with things that will instantly appeal to them: foraging toys, chew toys, enrichment, enrichment, enrichment. Think you have enough enrichment? Add more. In the world of bird care, when it comes to enclosure space and enrichment the rule of thumb is always the more, the better. The more enriching a space, the less likely they are to want to leave it. Building boundaries does not require a lot of effort, but it does require consistency and knowledge. Creating a happy living space for you and your parrot should not be approached like a mystery to be unraveled but rather an agreement you make with your bird to take part in a strategy for success. Having a step-by-step plan behind how to approach communicating expectations is necessary for a fulfilling experience with your bird.In this episode, we discuss what it means to have a successful strategy for establishing boundaries and ultimately how doing so sets clear expectations for your parrot when it comes to their behavior.So, join us as we dig into how having boundaries with your bird will make both of your lives together infinitely better. In this episode of the Project Narrative Podcast, Jim Phelan and Jan Alber discuss “Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot” by Robert Olen Butler, first published in The New Yorker in 1995, and then included in Robert Olen Butler’s 1997 volume entitled Tabloid Dreams: A Collection. Jan Alber is a Professor in the Department of English and American Literature and Culture at the University of Giessen in Germany. Alber has done pioneering work in the study of unnatural narratives and unnatural narratology, with his 2016 book, Unnatural Narrative: Impossible Worlds in Fiction and Drama, a major contribution to that subfield of narrative studies. Alber has also done important work on empirical approaches to narrative, on postmodern and post-postmodern narrative, on narrative ethics, on the relations of narrative theoretical approaches to each other, and on many other subjects. A past president of the International Society for the Study of Narrative, Alber has shown himself to be an excellent collaborator and interlocutor with other scholars, both in his published work and in his interactions at conferences. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Alber worked with Jessica Jumpertz and Deborah de Muijnck to organize over Zoom a series of lectures about narrative and the pandemic. Alber, Jumpertz, and de Muijnck then co-edited the essays in a volume called Pandemic Storytelling, which appeared earlier this year.
