This episode was a bit tough... what to say, what not to say.And why have I been MIA the past few weeks? I've been navigating our own life, one of which has been a bit bumpy as of late. And honestly, it's been exhausting. The concept today is not new but it's clearly one that's dismissed. When coaches particularly lose sight of their purpose and fail to accept personal responsibilty, there's a domino effect that has long lasting implications. I hope it serves as a great reminder for us all.You can email me at falling.jill@gmail.com and find me on most all social media avenues.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/theuplifteffect)

If you are roughly in your 40's, you may remember how reports cards looked- far different than today. They had a personal touch involved that made a big difference in how I saw myself and what I believed about those who I looked up to. It motivated change because their words mattered. My Mom did some digging and guess what she found,- the very words I had been carrying in my mind all these years, written in their handwriting, in cursive, and proving that though I couldn't remember the exact comments, I remembered how they made me feel. Parents, teachers, coaches, grandparents… don't miss this episode. Your words matter and they can and will change the lives of the children you touch! Come listen to the words of Mrs. Redding (K) and Mrs. Jacobson (3rd grade)… we need to practice what they did so well! And as mentioned, I'd love for you to be a part of my Patreon...here's the link to check it out- https://www.patreon.com/theuplifteffectTHANK YOU!Support the show
If you are a parent who has children playing sports...there are many episodes coming that will be important for you as you help your kids on and off the field! I love sports and I have found it to be an incredible tool to help address very specific things with my kids as I've parented 4 kids over the years...all with very different personalities and needed sports for a variety of different things. Today I address an issue many of us see these days and it's teaching our children a way of thinking/acting that will not serve them well. Just listen and see if you haven't seen some of the same. But most importantly-- how are we going to address this with our children? We talk about it in today's episode! And for those coaches who are modeling integrity, honesty and character as they work with our kids...thank you! We couldn't do this without your example of what REAL MEN should act like! Your influence goes so much father than the 100 yards on a football field or to the fence behind centerfield. So, thank you!If you would like to contact me, do so at:falling.jill@gmail.comSupport the show
Today's episode is all about how you can answer the "So how are you doing?" with a "I'm doing well, and how are you?" and do so honestly. Thank goodness most don't ask "How are you really doing?" because that's a tough question for so many of us right now. Here are some thoughts and ideas that have helped me and those I've counseled/coached as we are on this journey of remaining resilient for the long haul. These are ways to keep ourselves calm{ish} in the midst of chaos. This is not a political conversation, this is a leaderships conversation. Regardless of your position on any of the current (and multiple) issues we face right now...one thing is true... Leadership skills are needed now more than ever and our children need us to rise to the occasion and teach them what leadership is, and isn't. The field is plentiful right now for many examples of what happens when people lose sight of what leadership truly is.These skills are needed in our homes, on ball fields, in the schools, the work place and in our government- Do not shy away from these discussions with your kids! I give some suggestions on places to start the conversation and how I'm choosing to address it here with my tribe! And never forget, we must be the change we want to see!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/theuplifteffect)
That's not a misprint, there is such a thing as "good grieving"... Michele Benyo and I talk through some really important ways we can walk through grief and how to parent our children through grief and loss in a way that validates their experiences and allows them to grieve well. This is so important bc loss is a guarantee and we can help prepare our children for WHEN, not if, it happens... this episode is packed full of incredibly helpful ideas as we parent our kids.Find Michele Benyo's 7 week course and also her free resource for adults at Good Grief Parenting: https://www.goodgriefparenting.com/aboutIG: https://www.instagram.com/michelebenyo_goodgrief/FB: https://www.facebook.com/michele.benyoAnd you can contact me through:falling.jill@gmail.com or through both IG/FB Info on Patreon coming soon!!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/theuplifteffect)
Today's episode is inspired by a chapter in Pat Combs book, "More Than The Score- How Parents And Coaches Can Cultivate Virtue In Youth Athletes." Farming and parenting have so much in common and I think there are some super helpful analogies here that feel practical and can help us stay focused on where we are headed as we parent these rascals we call our kids! Please don't forget to subscribe to The Uplift Effect Podcast so you don't miss an episode...some neat things are just around the corner! You can contact me through most all social media sites (Jill Falling) or email at:falling.jill@gmail.comSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/theuplifteffect)
In this episode you will hear my opinion on what I have found, and has been proven in parent/child research, to be a fundamental part of building a strong relationship with your child. I share today how I've discovered sports (mine and theirs) to be a fantastic common denominator, but I address other area's by which your child may be gifted and passionate about and how to use the same concepts. If your relationship with your child is important to you, start early! If you are wanting more from the relationship you currently have with your child, it's never too late! We as parents can get so wrapped up in our own experiences/emotions/circumstances and fail to recognize how events are perceived so differently from the perspective of our children. Separation and divorce are a breeding ground for these vulnerable moments that if not handled with care and attention can leave children traumatized. This episode addresses those specific moments, or milestones, and I offer a perspective that's often overlooked or dismissed; the child's. I expand on content from "Trauma-Proofing Your Kids" by Peter Levine and Maggie Kline. This is a fantastic resource! This one is important to me... have you ever thought you'd like to parent differently than you were parented? Have you wondered why you aren't truly enjoying parenting like you thought you would? Have you felt triggered by things happening as you raise children and aren't sure what that's all about? Or...are you worried you are passing things down to your kids that you really want to change?I take you through a coaching exercise today that I often use with clients...I walk you through a common scenario to get to the bottom of what's often happening emotionally as you parent. This was a blast!Johnna Grimes allows me to dig deep and ask some of the hard questions about her past, how it influences her life day to day and everything in between. We are silly and yet get down to a point of an "ah ha" moment for her as we talk through her past and find a common denominator that threads itself into where she is today.Absolutely go listen to HER podcast this week, we flip spots and she interviews me...and basically do the same! You will hear more of my story that I don't typically share here-- we all have a journey and this week (her's will be Tuesday I believe) we both release our podcasts together so you can listen to them full circle! This one's a bit different folks...you will rarely hear me make reference to my dating life (wink), but for this one time, I take you on a first date I went on years ago and what I learned about first impressions, red flags, and what "safe people" look like, or not. This is a slight deviation from our typical parenting conversation, however for you single parents (or just single adults who are dating) out there...this is HUGE as you date again!I explain several concepts from the book from Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend, Safe People; How to Find Relationships That Are Good for You and Avoid Those That Aren't. This episode is my conversation with author, Julie Igel. She has not only a wealth of real life knowledge and practical advice to any and all Mom's, but for those who have children who feel and sense the world differently, she is a gold mine! We talk in depth about Sensory Integration Dysfunctions...how they played a role in her daughter as well as my son. There's a ton of practical advice as to how we both managed the many day to day struggles, yet the blessings of having a child with this condition. Her book, My Socks, is very well done, funny and the illustration is amazing (Illustration by Pearly L). I'm so excited to bring you this episode/conversation with author, Sarah Johnson! Her brand new book is one every Mother needs in her life...but here's the deal, this is not a book on breastfeeding (and every man just took a sigh of relief!).Sarah is a life coach (as well as many other things) and her book is written as a tool that anyone, particularly Mothers, can use to help move themselves towards change. Mama, your worth is not measured in ounces-- or in other peoples opinions, or on how happy your baby seems at any given moment, etc. You have what you need to be exactly what your baby needs and Sarah shows you how and why!Our conversation is "book review" style with lots of solid life coaching fundamentals that anyone (you too men) can use to gain better control over your mental health. This weeks episode is a call to action! It's done in two parts, pre-inauguration and post-inauguration. While there is not political discussions here— there is attention brought to why our national/state governments, our local executive teams, and our families are in desperate need for reevaluating what true and effective leadership really looks like. Our parenting skills and leadership skills are reflective of each other in ways we may not realize. This episode calls us to action— our families need our leadership, our country does too!
