In a world filled with distractions and endless desires, it's easy to lose sight of what truly matters. But what if the answers to living a more meaningful life were already written in ancient wisdom? In this episode of The Greatness Machine, Darius Mirshahzadeh delves deep into the teachings of Stoicism and how they can help us live with intention and purpose. Drawing inspiration from the timeless wisdom of figures like Marcus Aurelius, he shares insights on how to reduce anxiety, focus on what truly matters, and show up as the best version of ourselves every single day. Found a post from Overmind (@overmind01) where a very simple statement got me thinking about a few things. The post was this: “Education isn't for employment. Education is for enlightenment.” A key point that I always made to my students was that education happens all throughout our lives. Education was not meant (in my opinion) simply to help us get a job. It's for living our best lives and we need to realize that we can keep learning from reading, watching, listening, etc. Also tied into this is the fact that as part of the enlightenment that education offers us, is that we should always look towards those things that fire us up. Those things that light us up. Those things that we feel that we are called to do. Just remember to not stop trying to be your best. Keep looking to get better. Remember, it's not just you that benefits from you being your best!! Thanks for listening. I was on the road again - nothing big, just a grocery pickup and I was listening to The Daily Coach Podcast - Getting Comfortable With Failure. It was another of so many incredible sources of hearing stories from people who have been through failure, rejection, tough times, tragedy, etc. My connection point today is for all of us to find those sources of lessons that we can learn from. It certainly doesn't have to be the same source for all of us. Just keep learning & keep getting better! Find more from TheDaily.Coach Another fantastic source of lessons is John O'Leary's movie - Soul On Fire! It's a must see movie for lessons for all of us to be the heroes for others (and ourselves). Now, this post that I saw from Seek Wiser (@SeekWiser_) is all about raising our standards, but when I saw it - I knew this post was directly pointing at me. I don't want you getting offended by the title. I'll use something else in my thoughts about these thoughts in this episode. But, it is easy for me to see that this is a formula for me to get things better in my life and I hope you can take a few things from it to add value to your life. Face it, we all have standards for ourselves that we can get better at for sure. Thanks for listening. Taylor Northcutt, the mind behind the Prosopa Youtube channel, dives into the forbidden science of physiognomy: the belief that the face is a map of the soul. From ancient mystics to modern algorithms, we trace how civilizations tried to read truth, sin, and destiny in bone and flesh. What if your features aren't random? In this powerful episode, we challenge the modern myth that “good parenting” means self-sacrifice at all costs. Instead, we explore what it really takes to show up strong for your family — starting with how you lead yourself. From the societal pressure to “do it all” to the quiet burnout no one talks about, we unpack how ignoring your own needs doesn't make you a better parent — it makes it harder to be the present, grounded leader your kids actually need. We redefine self-care as self-leadership and break down the mindset shifts, personal responsibility, and daily actions that help you parent from a place of strength — not survival. If you've ever felt guilty for wanting more time, more space, or more growth… this conversation will give you permission to take it — and a plan to model a healthier path for your family. Because your kids don't need a perfect parent. They need one who's fully alive. Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) comes through with another reflection for all of us. “A reminder: Your life is nothing but a reflection of how you spend your time.” WOW!! Talk about an eye-opening thought, especially when you read this while looking in the mirror!! If we don't like things going on in our lives - look how we spend our time! I've been reflecting on my life … wow.. Now that I think about it… ever since I can remember. All this reflection and I don't think I've thought of the easy connection of how I spend my time. I have thought about my habits, what choices I make, my actions, my thoughts, etc., but it really is all about how I spend my time. Knowing this - it's something totally under my control of course, which simply means that I can not only do something about, but that I can't blame other people or circumstances. More great stuff for all of us to keep improving! When we add value to ourselves, good things can happen. Thanks for listening. In this transformative episode, Michael Jaco brings together four of the most influential voices in holistic health — Dr. Bryan Ardis, Dr. Edward Group, Dr. Henry Ealy, and Dr. Jana Schmidt — for a powerful conversation on how to heal yourself naturally and financially thrive while doing it.
I was listening to a podcast from “The Burn Podcast” by Ben Newman where he was having a fabulous conversation with Inky Johnson — the same Inky that I keep leaning on in so many of my episodes. Listen to it HERE. We are reminded about Inky's career-ending injury and how it changed his entire life. This helped to remind me how humility, discipline (it's been a recurring lesson lately), focus and he speaks about having a strong faith where he transformed pain into purpose. I love the connection to his pain, setbacks, problems and obstacles reminds him (and all of us) why it's important to remember that success comes from action, not just words. The idea of “reframing suffering into meaning” comes up in this amazing conversation between these two GIANT difference-makers. They shared how they are viewing their suffering, adversity, problems, etc., as growing into a powerful strength in their lives. Well, since I have plenty of adversity and stuff (and WE ALL DO), this can hopefully help me and you find some way of connecting to our own strength to help us become better throughout life! It's all about the mindset to keep showing up, no matter what is going on in our lives!! Thanks for listening. I connected with someone new recently when I saw this post from Gary Hensel (@gary_hensel) and it's a powerful reminder for all of us. We can all have this superpower, in fact we already have it. But if you are like me, I need to have it a bit more often everyday and that's exactly what I plan on doing. This thought here means a lot: “Calmness is a superpower. The ability to not overreact or take things personally keeps your mind clear and your heart at peace.” ~ Idil Ahmed In today's crazy and mixed up world, keeping calm is a necessity for living our best life. Anything that can help keep our mind clear and our heart at peace, is something worth going for. Remember, when we are better, it helps everyone around us be better too. Thanks for listening. Just listened to a fabulous podcast from Ben Rogers and his “Bottom Line” podcast. This episode was called “Tuesday Short: Truckers Block” Find Ben: (@ben_rajas53) BUILD Coaching Company, LLC - buildthearmy.com. The whole premise was connected to author Steve Chandler and his description about what “Trucker's Block” is all about. “Is there something called Trucker's Block where a driver wakes up and finds his mood isn't right for driving today? No. A trucker drives his truck no matter what his energy or hope levels are.” In this very short podcast (less than 90 seconds), it got me thinking about how many of my activities could I attach this definition to, so my mood wouldn't be a factor. I have a lot of work to figure this out - what about you? To me, I see the value of this for me to do. Listen to Ben's episode a few times. In fact, listen to more of his podcast episodes as he always brings plenty to think about in order for us to become the best versions of ourselves. Thanks for listening. I found this quote (from unknown) that said - “I fell in love with this quote: ‘Discipline is remembering who you said you wanted to be.'” This is short, yet so powerful. As soon as I saw it, read it and it sunk in - I was reminded instantly about doing things to help make myself be better in order to not only go after the things I want to do in my life, but also to help those that I love be their best too! Let this quote sink into your heart and then see what you are feeling & thinking. Thanks for listening. During the current government shutdown, Republican leaders claim Democrats want to extend federal health care benefits to undocumented immigrants. But by law, they can't — a restriction in place since 1996 under the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act. I found an interesting post that got me thinking a little bit where Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) showed this image of glass where there was a line in the middle. Above the line, it said “People who wonder whether the glass is half empty or half full, miss the point.” On the bottom half of the glass, it says “The glass is refillable.” I've always been a self-described “glass half full” kind of guy. What I guess I was missing was the fact that the glass (my glass, my life, me, etc.), was always still there to be refilled. All parts of life are part of this “keep pouring” mentality. The one thing that isn't - it's time. Once it's gone, it's gone. Now, we can do things to help us maximize our time, and help ourselves to make time for the things we want to do in life. Great lessons here for me and others too. Thanks for listening. In this episode, Christina opens up about what she's been seeing in her recent client sessions — and it all comes back to authenticity. She dives into how staying true to who you are isn't just a personal value, it's a business strategy.Christina shares how divine guidance shapes her approach to coaching and why clarity is the cornerstone of success. She breaks down what it really means to attract aligned clients and why it's not only okay — but essential — to accept that not everyone is meant to be your person. If you've ever struggled with people-pleasing, second-guessing your path, or trying to fit into someone else's version of success, this episode is your reminder: you get to choose authenticity, every single day.
Found a great reminder Psyche Wizard (@PsycheWizard) where this thought was shared: “The quickest way to succeed is to start now and figure it out as you go. You can't learn how to drive in a parked car.” So many thoughts came to mind when I saw this. I think it's easy to imagine sitting in a parked car, sitting on a bike, on a skateboard, a motor cycle, etc., and it's not going anywhere. Or maybe it's not even running or turned on. When it comes to acting on ideas or projects, starting to move forward is a good thing. Finding out new information or getting help along the way instead of being too afraid to even put the car in drive. I've done too much sitting in a parked car at times or maybe even too afraid of unlocking the car and getting in. What about you? Anything you are hesitating about to put your car in drive? Or peddle your bike? Or simply taking a step forward to start going in the direction you want to go in? Yea… me too. Thanks for listening. I found one of the simplest pieces of advice that I need help with and maybe others need this too. From Overmind (@overmind01) this thought is shared: “Don't blame the distractions, improve your focus.” There are so many distractions in the world and in front of us, now more than ever before it seems. As stated in this episode, I clicked on a “distraction” right before I hit the record button. My focus is something that not only do I need to work on improving, I'm the only one that can do it! Again, this is on a long list of things that I know I need to keep working on. For me, there will never be a day where I don't have something to do. Thanks for listening. As if I needed another rule to follow. This one is something you will want to connect with I think and it's not that difficult to understand. From Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) where this is shared: “The Rule of 100 - If you spend 100 hours a year in any discipline, (which is only 18 minutes a day), you'll be better than 95% of the world in that discipline. Consistency is everything.” This is something that anyone can connect to any discipline or more than one discipline. Just think of the great things you can do, not to say your #1, but to make a difference with others. To have a service, product, idea, etc., that can help others - just because you had the faith and effort to have consistency in doing what lights you up! The world needs this - more people to share the things that light that spark within them. Thanks for listening. It always seems, sad as it is, that we humans tend to not only learn lessons from others more so when they are gone, but humans have a sad track record, that looking back throughout history - we don't learn these lessons too well. Now of course this does not mean every single human being throughout history - tons of great people for sure that know and live these lessons. One of the best was Jane Goodall (look her up) and here is a quote from her that really hits home now that she just recently passed. She reminded us that “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” A conversation that I had with my buddy Coach Dave Ruekert recently, reminded me about the choices we have both made to help others through teaching and coaching. Really got me thinking about how much I need to stay on the journey I'm on and maybe look for different ways of continuing to connect to students and teachers along with athletes and coaches. We all have the ability to make “the world” better, right where we are at. The world needs us to do that for sure. Thanks for listening. Saw an interesting list from Book Therapy (@Book_therapy223) where they shared these six items. “Discipline is not hard. You just don't know these secrets: 1) Find your why, 2) Routine is Important, 3) Mindset Matters, 4) Celebrate Small Wins, 5) Visualize, and 6) Reset, Don't Quit. These items got me thinking about a lot of things that I want to keep working on so that I can be at my best. I keep reminding myself that when I'm at my best - so many other people benefit too. Remember, this list is something you can totally take on yourself - you and the one in the mirror of course. Thanks for listening. Today there is no shortage of information out there - the key is to find the good stuff in order to keep getting better. Out of the many things that I listen to so that I can invest in myself, and try to keep the spark going for myself. Tons of stuff for you to connect to, here are three of the many that I lean on. First, John O'Leary! You've heard about him many times on my podcasts. Here is his link to his Website. This is a BIG DEAL right here. The movie Soul on Fire - John O'Leary's life story… the movie comes out October 10. Find out more info HERE. It's a must see movie as my wife and I got to see one of the special previews, back in August. It's a powerful & emotional movie that has tons of life lessons. Please, check it out!! Secondly - Mitch Albom!! I have been connected to Mitch for more than 40 years starting with his newspaper columns. His book Tuesdays With Morrie was a life changer for so many people, including Mitch. His new book comes out Oct. 7 - Check out some info about “Twice” - click HERE for more information about his new book plus all the other items on his website. Finally, the recent episode of Ben Newman interviewing Inky Johnson. Amazing conversation with so many inspirations and ideas for us to keep getting better. In this episode, Christina opens up about the fresh energy she's bringing into her life and business. She reflects on the power of true human connection, the value of networking, and the wisdom she's gained from influential people along the way. Christina challenges listeners to lean into discomfort, trust their intuition, and say yes to opportunities—even when it feels scary. With heartfelt stories and powerful takeaways, she reminds us how fleeting life can be, and why it's so important to step up, embrace change, and take ownership of the journey ahead.
I came across a couple of great posts that really got me thinking about something we all do and the importance of realizing that there is a ton to learn from this event. What I found from Seek Wiser (@SeekWiser_) was a great reminder as to what failure is all about. Here it is: “F = Fall, A = Acknowledge, I = Investigate, L = Learn, U = Understand, R = Realign and the E = Evolve”. Some great reminders for us to always connect with, since we all have Failure as part of our everyday lives! The second thing that I remembered to share came up as I was recording this episode. It came from Psyche Wizard (@PsycheWizard) where this was posted for us to remember too: “Be loyal to your future, not your past.” Powerful words to connect with learning from failure in our lives. This was truthfully, a great start to my day that I needed for sure. Hope (as always) that this helps you too. Thanks for listening. Found this post that is connected to The Ryder Cup (currently going on at the time of this recording - the USA team has a lot of work to do to get closer to the European team.) But this clip came from DAILY HOVI (@dailyhovi) - where Viktor Hovland says about his plans to just laugh off comments from the crowd while playing the match in New York City (notorious for the jeering of visiting opponents) because they can't be worse than his own thoughts that he has going on in his head. This clip from Viktor is so powerful as it simply is not just about golf, but more importantly about life. Side note: Europe did win the Ryder Cup. Thanks for listening. I came across a powerful post from Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) where this African Proverb was shared: “No matter how sharp your teeth are, you can't bite water. Meaning - Each problem comes with its own solution. Take time to understand the nature of the situation before taking action. Powerful thoughts here that I never really thought about before. Chewing water (yes I tried it), gets you nowhere. Chewing water should not be a problem because we don't need to do it. I do appreciate the connection to problems that have their own unique solutions AND I know for sure that I don't want to cause a ton of problems for myself, since the world & other people seem to do enough of that for all of us. Still hanging onto John O'Leary's podcast that I shared yesterday. If you need the link again to check out this episode - click HERE. It's a great episode to listen to again and I'm zeroing in on one of the questions that John asks all of his guests. They are called the Live Inspired 7 and I'm focusing in on is #2: “What is a characteristic or trait that you possessed as a child that you wish you still exhibited today?” You heard what DeVon's answer was. This podcast I started to jump into what my answer(s) would be and I'm also throwing this question out to you too! After you listen to this episode, you will know what some of mine are. I'm interested in what your answer might be to this question. Let me know. Thanks for listening. Saw a great post from Jim Shapiro (@jimshapiro) where he shared this: “The future belongs to the consistent. Not the talented, not the lucky, but the one who shows up, even when it's hard. Show up. Effort never betrays you.” Loved this! Just keep showing up. Whatever it is we have to do! This also connected to what I listened to John O'Leary sharing on his podcast with his guest, DeVon Franklin, who was in the movie “Soul On Fire”. You can check out the movie with the link. You can also check out the link to the podcast HERE. In this podcast they go through a lot of great lessons that tie into this post and John does this while he's interviewing Devon. Found a post from a relatively new source and I'll make sure you understand what this is about and what it's not. The source was Philosophy of Ages (@PhilosophyAges) and what they shared was this: “A millionaire once said: People don't have the patience to dedicate 3 years to building their own business, but they do have the patience to work for others for 40 years.” Now one thing for sure, it's not about making a ton of money. It's all about having the patience to dedicate to yourself. To keep investing in yourself. To become the best you can become. It's something to keep working on all the time. Plus, another thing… you want to spend 40 years doing something for a career, make sure you love getting up for it every day!! Find whatever lights that spark inside of you. Have the patience to do just that! Thanks for listening. If you've ever felt like your background, circumstances, or lack of privilege are keeping you from your goals, this episode will help you see what's truly possible when you decide to take ownership of your future.
Dr. Hoffman continues his conversation with Dr. Aimie Apigian, author of “The Biology of Trauma: How the Body Holds Fear, Pain, and Overwhelm, and How to Heal It.”
Dr. Aimie Apigian, author of “The Biology of Trauma: How the Body Holds Fear, Pain, and Overwhelm, and How to Heal It,” details how unaddressed trauma is often the hidden cause of many preventable illnesses and is linked to eight of the ten leading causes of death. The conversation delves into the physiological responses to trauma, the mechanisms by which trauma can manifest in chronic physical ailments, and the importance of incorporating a holistic approach that includes addressing mental, somatic, and biological impacts of trauma. Dr. Apigian also shares insights from her personal journey and professional evolution, emphasizing the need for a combination of medical treatment and trauma work for optimal health.
I found a great post that ties into something else that I saw this morning and it all centers around the importance of always learning. Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) shared this thought: “Those who keep learning will keep rising in life.” ~ Charlie Munger. This was also connected to another post that I saw this morning with a quote (even though I butchered the thought) from Brian Tolentine, M.Ed. - “Students need to read books. Entire books. Our society is distracted, unfocused, and in a hurry. A curriculum that rushes through content perpetuates the anxiety of our time. Reading a book (slowly and leisurely) is a countercultural act.” We are all students in life and life is always a teacher. Keep investing in yourself. Sharing some great thoughts with you today from the legend, Jon Gordon (@JonGordon11) where he reminds us in his “Mindset Monday” post, that “It's better to give than receive. Yet some people are reluctant to give because they don't feel like they have enough. That's a scarcity mindset. When you give, you find abundance. The more you give, the more you receive to give away. Be a giver! Live generous today!” The more we keep working on ourselves to be our best, we will have plenty to give away. Remember, it's not just money. It's our time, our listening, our laughter, our smiles, our help, etc. Things like this get me so fired up because I've seen it happen for me - especially lately. I'm glad I'm finally learning how important this is. I've had glimpses of it before throughout my younger years, but not the clear understanding on how awesome this is. Keep at it my friends. The world needs you at your best!! Thanks for listening. Leaning on this guy a lot lately and his message today is one that all of us can make a personal connection with. It comes from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) and he shares these thoughts about the quote he connects this with. Mark's thoughts are: “A message for today … Success isn't always instant or visible. It's built in the quiet hours, when no one is watching. Every bit of effort, every act of dedication adds up. Even when recognition seems distant, keep showing up—your breakthrough is closer than you think.” There are so many things that we are doing in life that don't get noticed by others. Remember, that's not what we are looking for. What we are looking for, I think, is that WE notice the little things we are doing AND we understand that we just need to keep working on them, keep doing them, keep learning new things to help us to keep going. Also remember that when we keep at the things, the habits, we keep getting better. To me, that is success. You being at your best means you are able to make a difference for others. When we are not working to be our best - we are not able to help others that much. Keep working on ourselves my friends. Keep bringing the effort, the thought, the energy, etc., each and every day. That is success for sure. Thanks for listening. Send us a textEver caught yourself saying "I'm responsible" while your life crumbles around you? That's what I call the illusion of responsibility—looking put-together while avoiding ownership of the chaos within. As a recovering alcoholic, I've mastered the art of deflection, blaming everyone from my boss to my spouse for my drinking, never stopping to ask: "What's my part in this?"The hard truth I discovered is that in every broken situation in my life, there was one common denominator—me. This revelation isn't just humbling; it's the foundation of genuine recovery. When we finally stop pointing fingers outward and direct them inward, we reclaim our power to change. Responsibility isn't a burden; it's the key that unlocks transformation.Similarly, many of us mistake survival for discipline. We congratulate ourselves for barely holding it together instead of building actual structure. True discipline begins with small, consistent actions—attending meetings, making calls when we don't want to, following through on commitments. These seemingly simple practices are seeds that grow into rhythms, transforming effort into freedom. Discipline doesn't cage us; it creates the structure that addiction destroys, offering stability in finances, health, and relationships.Recovery is about rebuilding trust with yourself one promise at a time. It's about shifting from victim to author of your own story. Whether you're struggling with addiction, depression, or feeling trapped in chaos, remember: you weren't made to struggle. Take one small step toward responsibility today. Pick one area for practicing discipline. You don't need to figure everything out at once—just plant that first seed. Your journey to freedom begins when you finally stop running and start owning your life. Ready to take that step? I had a start to my day where I was trying to connect with something better than what was swirling around in my head. I let the “doom and gloom” stuff going around in the world today, get to me. But like before, I knew it was happening and I set out to choose to do something about it. A gratitude walk sure did help this morning along with a couple of other things. First came from Coach Ray Ostrowski (@CoachRayO3313) - a former student and now an outstanding teacher and coach himself. He shares this: “New Day - New Opportunity - Today is a new day. It does not care about what happened last week. It does not care what you plan to do next week. Today is a new day & a great opportunity to get better. Always be thankful and grateful for a new day. Make the best of your opportunity.” Perfect for me today! Next up was a post from Power of Positivity (@LIVEpositivity) “Stay hopeful. You never know what tomorrow may bring.” Again, a message to help me readjust my day, which we all need once in a while. Another couple of items came from a teaching post that I got some very uplifting feedback from three former students and a couple of former colleagues, that once again, helped me readjust my day!! It's also probably time for a readjustment of my social media intake as well. So many more things to help me with where I want my days (and ultimately my life) to go in a more positive direction. Hope this helps you when you need a readjustment of your day. Thanks for listening. Found a powerful post from Mind Essentials (@Mind_Essentials) where the quote was shared on the side of a building. (like it's that important for us to see it) The quote? It's right here: “Life's already hard, I don't wanna be around anyone who makes it worse.” )The quote comes from @bestmemory.) This point has already been on my radar for as long as I can remember. I've always said that life and other people will make life hard - why would I make it any harder for myself. Now that doesn't mean that I have it all figured out and I haven't always listened to this quote. I struggle too. I just hope and plan to not keep struggling with this. I will still work on not letting myself help the world and others that cause troubles!! Then I will also be working on not causing myself problems too. Thanks for listening. It's been awhile since I have shared something from John Maxwell's “Daily Reader.” This is from September 16 and it deals with Significance over Security. It gets us thinking about settling for security (and in today's world, that sounds great with all of the crazy things going on), but it also gets us thinking about how significant we are in our lives. It's a mind shift to our purpose and our life's mission. Doesn't matter our age or where we are in our lives, we can always make the shift he shares in this. This has been on my heart, on my mind and in my actions for a long time. I just need to turn up the heat of me going after this now in my life. How about you? Thanks for listening. Saw a post that was funny, sad, but (to me) very true! It was from “Echoes of the Past” and the quote was an image of an older cowboy sitting on a horse with a slight smile and he is saying: “I guess they had to invent artificial intelligence since real intelligence is running out.” My first thing I did was have a little smile and chuckle, but then quickly went to a kind of sad feeling. But, I do feel the part of “real intelligence” disappearing quite fast. My thought is to invest in yourself in “human skills”. Those skills that (I think) technology cannot replace. For sure, learn about AI and other intelligence things, but don't let them replace your human skills. That's the key! Thanks for listening. I found a couple of posts that gave me this idea to put these two powerful things together. First from Dear Self (@Dearme2_) where it was shared that “Consistency looks like nothing is happening, until everything changes. Awesome piece to hold onto and to keep being consistent every day we can. The second piece came from Psyche Wizard (@PsycheWizard), who I have connected with many times before and today's message was this: “Discipline will carry you to places motivation can't.” These two connections to our success are there for us to connect to and make a part of our own success formula! Make them your own!! Keep at it! Don't give up! Don't give into the crud happening in the world today!! Oh… sorry… those things were directed at me. LOL Thanks for listening. I found a great connection with some understanding and uplifting items that I needed today, and it all came from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) where he shared his introduction to post today: “A message for today … Life isn't always fair — but that doesn't mean you have to give up. Refuse to be ruled by negativity. Stay strong, stay positive & keep moving forward. You are capable of achieving far more than you believe.” This got my attention right away as I saw that I was letting life beat me up a bit lately. The post that went with his intro, solidified why I needed this today. Check this episode out a few times as the more I spoke, the more things I started connected to it and people that provided some of those great connections!! I found some awesome reflections here with this one and I hope it helps you reflect and make some deep-rooted connections to what you need to do in your life. Your Comfort Zone is Your Coffin Your comfort zone feels safe… but it's slowly burying your growth, your discipline, and your potential. This cinematic piece is a wake-up call: stop lying to yourself, stop recycling excuses, and start embodying real change.
In this episode of Crazy Wisdom, host Stewart Alsop sits down with Hannah Aline Taylor to explore themes of personal responsibility, freedom, and interdependence through her frameworks like the Village Principles, Distribution Consciousness, and the Empowerment Triangle. Their conversation moves through language and paradox, equanimity, desire and identity, forgiveness, leadership, money and debt, and the ways community and relationship serve as our deepest resources. Hannah shares stories from her life in Nevada City, her perspective on abundance and belonging, and her practice of love and curiosity as tools for living in alignment. You can learn more about her work at loving.university, on her website hannahalinetaylor.com, and in her book The Way of Devotion, available on Amazon.Check out this GPT we trained on the conversationTimestamps00:00 Stewart Alsop welcomes Hannah Aline Taylor, introducing Loving University, Nevada City, and the Village Principles.05:00 They talk about equanimity versus non-duality, emotional mastery, and curating experience through boundaries and high standards.10:00 The focus shifts to desire as “who do I want to be,” identity as abstraction, and relationships beyond monogamy or labels.15:00 Hannah introduces the Empowerment Triangle of anything, everything, nothing, reflecting on reality as it is and the role of perception.20:00 Discussion of Nevada City's healing energy, community respect, curiosity, and differences between East Coast judgment and West Coast freedom.25:00 Responsibility as true freedom, rebellion under tyranny, delicate ecosystems, and leadership inspired by the Dao De Jing.30:00 Love and entropy, conflict without enmity, curiosity as practice, and attention as the prerequisite for experience.35:00 Forgiveness, discernment, moral debts, economic debt, and reframing wealth consciousness through the “princess card.”40:00 Interdependence, community belonging, relationship as the real resource, and stewarding abundance in a disconnected world.45:00 Building, frontiers, wisdom of indigenous stewardship, the Amazon rainforest, and how knowledge without wisdom creates loss.50:00 Closing reflections on wholeness, abundance, scarcity, relationship technology, and prioritizing humanity in transition.Key InsightsHannah Taylor introduces the Village Principles as a framework for living in “distribution consciousness” rather than “acquisition consciousness.” Instead of chasing community, she emphasizes taking responsibility for one's own energy, time, and attention, which naturally draws people into authentic connection.A central theme is personal responsibility as the true meaning of freedom. For Hannah, freedom is inseparable from responsibility—when it's confused with rebellion against control, it remains tied to tyranny. Real freedom comes from holding high standards for one's life, curating experiences, and owning one's role in every situation.Desire is reframed from the shallow “what do I want” into the deeper question of “who do I want to be.” This shift moves attention away from consumer-driven longing toward identity, integrity, and presence, turning desire into a compass for embodied living rather than a cycle of lack.Language, abstraction, and identity are questioned as both necessary tools and limiting frames. Distinction is what fuels connection—without difference, there can be no relationship. Yet when we cling to abstractions like “monogamy” or “polyamory,” we obscure the uniqueness of each relationship in favor of labels.Hannah contrasts the disempowerment triangle of victim, perpetrator, and rescuer with her empowerment triangle of anything, everything, and nothing. This model shows reality as inherently whole—everything arises from nothing, anything is possible, and suffering begins when we believe something is wrong. The conversation ties money, credit, and debt to spiritual and moral frameworks. Hannah reframes debt not as a burden but as evidence of trust and abundance, describing her credit card as a “princess card” that affirms belonging and access. Wealth consciousness, she says, is about recognizing the resources already present.Interdependence emerges as the heart of her teaching. Relationship is the true resource, and abundance is squandered when lived independently. Stories of Nevada City, the Amazon rainforest, and even a friend's Wi-Fi outage illustrate how scarcity reveals the necessity of belonging, curiosity, and shared stewardship of both community and land.
