From the School of Hard Knocks (@theschoolofhardknockz) on Instagram, I caught a quick interview of a billionaire where he mentioned something his dad told him - “We grow old to soon and wise too late.” I think that is so true. Wisdom comes with experience and obviously experience comes with age. Experience also comes with taking action in life. That is something all of us can do more of for sure, especially for me. Part of growing old too soon is that time flys by and this person also mentioned that spending time with family & loved ones is something that is really important as we can never get it back. I came across a powerful reminder from TeacherGoals (@teachergoals) and this reminds us that “Character counts”. The quote is something that I know I need to focus on a bit more and I know that our world would be much better if we all connected with this more too - “I'm not impressed by your looks, money, social status or job title. I'm impressed by the way you treat other human beings.” We have plenty of examples, sad to say, of so many people not connecting with this thought. How about we help to change things to help others. Remember, our time on this planet is short. I know I need to use my time a bit better for sure. How about you? Thanks for listening. Amazing post from Clint Hurdle (@ClintHurdle13) which got me thinking about a few things. This post sums up how all of us can do more and be more for others. Clint shared this: “Every morning when my feet hit the ground, my first thought is: Lord, let me be a simple man in a complex world. Let me be a source of encouragement for others. Let me be some light for others. I tip my hat to my son Christian for challenging me to share positivity beyond my email list which nearly 10,000 people read daily. He said, "Dad, you have no idea what social media can do." His advice was simple: "use Social Media to share what you've done, not what others should do." I don't have all the answers. I'm just a simple man in a complex world trying to share experience, strength, and hope.” Just imagine if we can not only put out more encouragement, hope, compassion, empathy, joy, etc., online - but also with our words & actions in the real world with others! Instead of the ugly & condemning words, judgement, hate, lies, etc. (this is tough typing one handed). We don't need to have all the answers, but we need to try to be better and do better towards others. Thanks for listening. In this episode, Christina Lecuyer gets real about clarity, boundaries, and choosing yourself—especially when the holiday season starts pulling you in every direction. If you've ever struggled to say no, felt guilty prioritizing your needs, or found yourself overwhelmed trying to make everyone happy, this conversation is one you'll want to hear.Christina breaks down what it means to be “selfish” in a way that's actually healthy, empowering, and necessary for a life that feels aligned. Because when you're clear on what you want, you not only show up better for yourself—you show up better for everyone around you.
I found a post on FB from someone new and I connected with it right away. It's from Sam Demma and he shares something that one of his high school teachers shared with him that is very relevant for all of us to connect with. “Small consistent actions” were the three words that his teacher shared with him. The question he asked the class was “what do these people have in common?” He had written many famous people's names on the board before this. These words are not only meant for famous people. They are meant for all of us. Again, the clip that I'm sharing shares this story much easier than I ever could. Check it out HERE. Thanks for listening. I came across something that really hit home for me. This post from Gary Hensel (@gary_hensel) reminded me that “Somebody didn't wake up today, but you did. That's enough reason to stop complaining, and that's enough to be thankful for. Never let your troubles blind you to your daily blessings.” Recently I went to a funeral service for a longtime family friend, finding out a former student of mine recently passed away and most recently a neighbor and good friends of ours - lost a family member very quickly. I know it happens every day and that it is a true part of life. But, I needed a reminder about the “me complaining” part. Many times I lose sight of the reality of life and what others are going through. I think that empathy is a skill for all of us to keep working on, once again this really goes for most of our “leaders” in our country today for sure. Thanks for listening. This was the post that I spoke about from Friday's show and it comes from Greg Berge (@gb1121) where he shares his video from an NBA legend, Doug Collins. “Too many kids today are afraid of failure.” Doug Collins reminds us that “Failure isn't the end. It's the lesson. It's how you grow, learn, and get tougher. Every champion has failed; they just refused to stay there.” Now of course it hits differently hearing the clip instead of me just talking about it or reading the quotes. The big motivating factor from this lesson is that since we all fail, every single one of us, many times a day - this should fire us up to see the opportunities we have to grow, learn, improve, etc., every single day! I know that I need to hear this lesson again as I tend to forget the chances I have to really improve myself and my life, whenever failure hits. Another big truth… This is not just for kids. I was reading my “Daily Reader” from John Maxwell on my Kindle app, and yesterday's lesson was about making failure your best friend. I love how easy he puts part of this. John mentions “When you are able to learn from any bad experience and thereby turn it into a good experience, you make a major transition in life. For years I've taught something that I think gives useful insight on the subject of change: People change when they… Hurt enough that they have to, Learn enough that they want to, and Receive enough that they are able to.” Thinking about these true statements got me thinking not only about myself in each of those three, but also the fact that others are there too. I want to focus on helping others to receive more encouragement to help them get through the first two parts. Another thought from John Maxwell, where he picked up this from Jim Rohn: “Don't let your learning lead to knowledge; let your learning lead to action.” Hey, don't get me wrong, knowledge is great - but what do we do with that knowledge? Those ideas? Those thoughts? Putting them into action is the key and when that action leads to us getting better, along with helping others to get better too, well that is a great place to be. I know I need to continue putting more action into my life and looking to make a difference in the lives of others. I found another clip that I wanted to share, but I'll save that for Monday. I found this from Ball is Psych (@BallisPsych) and it's a great reminder for all of us in life and I know it's something I need to keep working on for sure. “You are in control of your life. There are four things you can control every day of your life: attitude, work ethic, how you treat others and how you treat yourself.” — Pat Summitt. Coach Summit was right… We do have some things that we can control and for me, it's something that I need to focus on. I'm starting to get some ideas for my word of the year for 2026 and it's going to be connected to Intentional. My attitude needs work on for sure, every single day! My work ethic is something to still improve, even though I'm not “working” every day anymore. How I treat others?? Wow.. that's one for sure that I need to improve upon… always! The last one, how I treat myself, well that one has been on my “to do list” for a very long time. I see that all of these are connected to living my best life, so once again I'm up for the challenge to keep getting better. Thanks for listening. I listened to John O'Leary's podcast yesterday, entitled “Breaking Down The Walls” for his Monday Moment episode #825 (click the link HERE to listen to it - really gets us thinking about things.) Please, check out the movie - Soul On Fire. You will walk away fired up for connecting to things a bit differently in your life's journey. Having a bit more gratitude in life in place of connecting to cynicism, anger, complaining and hate; can take us into a much better direction. From this episode - “My friends, any fool can criticize, complain and condemn. It's common and trends among the critics of the world. But in choosing gratitude instead, walls crumble, hope is restored and lives are transformed. Today, let's release our bend toward cynicism and instead ignite a spirit of gratitude. It will change not only your world, but those you encounter in it.” In a time where there are so many troubles - many created to divide - let's find some ways of not only leaning more on gratitude but also to take a look at our perspective on things in life. This can help us to see our lives differently. Maybe with more hope, passion, energy, willingness to not quit, along with wanting to help others along with helping ourselves to simply do better in all that we do. I listen to all of John's podcasts and they always get me to not only think differently, but to also see things a bit differently too. I am inspired after every episode and with that inspiration, I am trying to put action into living my best life. Thanks for listening. In this episode, Christina Lecuyer gets real about a moment that hit harder than she expected — being called a “life coach.” What seemed like a simple label sparked frustration, self-doubt, and a deeper question of identity. Christina opens up about what it's like to feel misunderstood in your work, why certain words can trigger old insecurities, and how to move through emotional reactions instead of letting them define you.She shares the inner work she had to do: realizing where the anger came from, why proving herself mattered so much, and how she reclaimed her voice and confidence in the consulting space. This episode is for anyone who has ever felt misjudged, underestimated, or boxed into a version of themselves that didn't feel true.If you're in a season of redefining yourself, this conversation reminds you that growth is rarely clean — but always worth it.

I found a new connection to things that can help me have better days, think better, do things better, get more fired up, etc. This thought came from Words of Wise | Mindset Coach (@Wordofwise_) and they shared this: “Stop being afraid of what could go wrong, and start to be excited about what could go right!” Wow!! Did I need this reminder! Little things this past weekend (and truthfully many days) pointed towards the fact of me focusing on things that I hope don't happen. Things that could go wrong have been eating up many of my “resources” and it's about time I choose to spend / invest those resources (my energy, thoughts, actions, emotions, etc.) on the things that can go right! Found an eye-opening post from Mind Essentials (@Mind_Essentials) where a quote from Denzel Washington was shared that said this: “Always be thankful for the bad things in life. They open your eyes to see the good things you weren't paying attention to before.” Again, it's not that I want bad things to happen to me just so I can learn lessons. It's a reminder to have my eyes open more often than just when bad things happen. It's how I respond when things get tossed at me and remember gratitude is something to have all the time. This is a powerful connection to a former student that recently passed away and it's something I know I want to keep working on having in my life. The thought comes from Motivational Quotes (@motivational) where this truth was shared: “Be good to people. You will be remembered more for your kindness than any other level of success you could possibly attain.” So many of the posts that I saw from others about this student all had kindness being a part of what they remembered about him. Thinking back to the times I got to work with him and his classmates (more than 25 years ago), there were a lot of laughs, many great talks we had, but most importantly - I do remember looking back on those times and witnessing this students' kindness towards others. Thinking back to this - it's amazing that he was such a great example for so many others and that so many of those people paid attention to pick that important lesson up. Once again, something the world needs more of and I know I need to keep trying to be one of those people that shows kindness as the gift that it is. Thanks for listening. I found a post from Kylie Riordan (@mindfulheal) that connected to my good friend, Dr. Jeff Lip. This quote is one of many that Jeff shared with my students when he spoke to my classes over the years. It's one he believes in strongly and so do I. The quote is from Pablo Picasso who said, “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” When we can do this - and we focus on helping others, making a difference for others - that is a very rich life! I heard a report from Brad Galli (@bradgalli) who is the sports director at our ABC affiliate here in Detroit (@WXYZDetroit) and he did an interview with the Detroit Lions head coach, Dan Campbell and this answer that Coach Campbell shared with Brad - was amazing. It's so amazing that I wanted to share the audio with you to help you see how maybe a gritty football coach can help all of us with things going on in our lives. Focusing on the moment a bit more and tying it into our passions and those people that we love and that we can help, that's a recipe for some good things to happen. This clip fired me up for sure and I hope it does the same for you. Find it HERE. Thanks for listening. I see his posts just about every day and every one of them gets me thinking. This one (as I share from him again), I hope gets you thinking too. You see, we all have excuses in our lives as to why we don't do more, become better, try something new, finish something, etc., and Coach Ray Ostrowski (@CoachRayO3313) reminds us this about those excuses: “Contrary to what many believe and practice, you can NEVER ‘excuse' your way out of a situation. You can go from failure to success, but never excuses. End your excuses and over time, correct your outcome.” Now, those were his thoughts on this quote he shared: “You can't excuse your way out - you can only adjust your way out. You can go from failure to success, but you can't go from excuses to success.” ~ John Maxwell. “Drop the excuses if you truly want to change your results.” This was talking right to me of course as I have way too many excuses in my life and throughout my history, that have all gotten in the way of me being my best version of myself. I'm going to keep working on this for sure. No other choice. How about you? Thanks for listening. Found some powerful and emotional connections recently that I wanted to share with you. First came a post from Gratitude HQ (@gratefuledu64) where we are reminded to “be the reason why people believe in beautiful souls, kind hearts, and good energy. Never stop being a good person.” This is something I think the world needs now more than ever! This is also connected to @JOLearyInspires and a recent podcast (found HERE) where we are reminded about giving ourselves permission to keep learning and growing while we seek and find our purpose in life. Part of that purpose should be to be good and do good for others. The movie - “Soul on Fire” has this message too. Go and see this movie with people you love! Finally, Mitch Albom and his most recent book, “Twice” is another item that I've assigned as homework for you (it's the teacher in me, sorry) and it's amazing lessons - one of which is to always look and try to be better in our lives!! Powerful episode here for me - sorry for the blubbering all over the place as I connected this message to traveling up to the university where I first met my wife 40 years ago!! Also, a breakfast together with classmates from my high school. Visiting my parents recently and spending some time with them. Finally and sadly, a former student of mine passed away and not only did it get me thinking about him - the fun times working with him in my classes, the conversations we had, the laughter that went along with it - but also working with his older brother too in my class and working with his mom and knowing the family. The impact this student made on his classmates and our school community, timeless lessons. It got me thinking of other former students that have passed away, along with former coworkers too and the huge message from all of this - I am a better person for having met all of them!! I hope you have that too in your life. Thanks for listening. I listened to Ed Mylett's latest podcast (listen to it HERE) and it really got me thinking, got me fired up and helped me to do some serious reflection about a few things. It's all about unlocking our best version of ourselves. Lot's of things here that help us to see how we all have challenges and those connect with the way we think of ourselves. We all have a past and as I've said for years that our past is our best mentor. The good and not so good - all of it has lessons for us. This is a long podcast so you can find a car ride, a few days of breaking it up, just make the time to listen to it as it's so good!! Here is the VIDEO of Ed's podcast. Thanks for listening. I came across a post from UpSkillYourLife (@UpSkillYourLife) and it floored me as to the truth of this statement. “Reading an hour a day is only 4% of your day. But that 4% will put you at the top of your field within 10 years. Find the time.” - Patrick Bet-David. I think it's more than just reading - although you will be so much better off if you do the reading. But listening to podcasts, watching videos, meeting with people that are a bit ahead of you in the things you want to do, etc. Self improvement is something we all can control and invest in. Keep it up!! You will hear how I had to actually check the math on this 4%... and yes.. It's true. Thanks for listening. As usual, there seems to be a lot on my mind throughout the day (and night at times). I found this simple reminder - simple but not easy to do. From Dr. Jim Afremow (@goldmedalmind) who posted this: “Just win the moment in front of you.” Again, (a repeated topic) there are so many distractions every day in our lives. More so now than ever before it seems. When we win the moment in front of us - with whatever that might be - good things can happen. We stack more “wins” each day, we have more good days. We pile up more good days, life gets going in a good direction. Notice that it's not about being perfect, it's about being our best. For me, it's a never ending chase and it's something worth working towards for sure. I hope it is for you too. Thanks for listening. This actually came across my “news wire” yesterday just about the time where I got off the phone with my buddy Coach Dave Ruekert (@CoachRuekert). It connected with Dave and so many others in my life. The post came from Gary Hensel (@gary_hensel) and the post was this powerful reminder: “Surround Yourself With People Who - Empower you, Believe in you, Support you, Uplift you, Motivate you and Appreciate you.” I am reminded about so many people that help me in so many ways. The list is long. I take something from each of them and I hope I gave them much more than I took from them. My wish for you? Think about those that are connected to this list. Then, go out of your way to let them know & thank them. Thanks for listening. David, Lakshmi, and Erin dig into the intersection of wealth, faith, and community, particularly from the standpoint of middle-class Christians. Sparked by Lakshmi's seminary research on Christian engagement with wealth accumulation in a neoliberal capitalist system, we explored theological and practical approaches to wealth: What does it mean to have or accumulate wealth? What are the impacts of capitalism? the role of intentional Christian communities? and the balance between personal finances and larger systemic (in)justice? Look what I found - a powerful reminder for myself that I also saw something yesterday that my daughter showed me. This comes from Gratitude HQ (@gratefuledu64) and they shared this: “Let's be that person, who roots for others. Who tells a stranger they look amazing and encourages others to believe in themselves and their dreams.” What happened to simply being happy for others when they find something that fires them up? Why is it that so many people have to “dump” on people for sharing things that they are excited about? Why is it so hard to just smile and say to yourself, I'm happy for that person… good for them? To me, this is something that so many people need help with - including me. I need to be a better encourager. I need to keep rooting for the underdogs in life. Truthfully, if it's something that I don't agree with or don't like - I can simply keep scrolling or like I just did - hit the UNFOLLOW button, instead of piling on criticism, negative feedback, etc. Now, there are times for sure to “REPLY” to others and not be silent, but for the most part it doesn't have to be every single time you see things you don't like or simply want to rag on someone for being happy. I found a very inspirational and thought provoking post from a former student, and I've leaned on him plenty of times before. Coach Ray Ostrowski (@CoachRayO3313) is an amazing teacher and football coach, where he goes out of his way to share things just about every day with his students and players, but also the rest of the world too. This long-time educator and coach recognizes the importance of learning all of the time and that's one of the main driving forces behind this podcast and just about everything that I do. Coach Ray shares this: “1st & 3rd - Life is not fair. The only thing in life that is fair is a ball hit between 1st & 3rd. We are promised adversity in life. Everything you achieve - everything you do, you'll have to overcome difficulties. Your integrity & your character are what will define you. How you handle the adversity?” In today's world - especially here in our country, we have way too many examples of those that DON'T have much character and integrity and we can see where that gets people in life. There are so many reasons and examples for us to keep working on these two success ingredients. The world needs us to step up and put these into action for sure. Thanks for listening. Reading the new book from Mitch Albom called “Twice” (click HERE for the book info.) It gets us thinking about what if we got second chances to do things over? But we would have to live with that new choice. Also, it can be used for Love either. So many thoughts here that this is helping to see things in my life just a bit differently. I understand that what I have in my life, I would not risk changing things in my past to have what I have today. It's also taught me a little bit, that at times, we do have a second chance - to say I'm sorry. To fix something at that moment that just got broken. The key is in the moment. I hope this book gets you thinking about your life like it has for me. Make sure you check out all of Mitch's books HERE. Would love to hear about your thoughts if you are able to get this book or any of his books and what you thought of them. Thanks for listening. I saw something recently that gave me a motivational lift along with a reminder too. This comes from UpSkillYourLife (@UpSkillYourLife) and it's this: “Forget your age. If you have dreams to achieve, you are still young.” I do have dreams to achieve - still!! I also think of my current age and I am reminded through this post and other things, that yes I am still young. I'm still that 15 year old boy that I was 44 years ago with dreams and thoughts of a future that I could not touch yet. Well, that future has been here and is now my present. As long as I have dreams to work toward, all the ages I have been in my life are here to help me keep going after things. The longer I let this thought simmer, the more emotional I get. Part of it also is that I'm in the middle of reading Mitch Albom's new book “Twice” which just came out recently. I'll share more from the book in my next podcast. I still have dreams and I still can work towards them, no matter what my age is today! That's true for all of us. Just keep working towards them - little steps or big ones, doesn't matter. Just keep going! Thanks for listening. Found a post from Overmind (@overmind01) where a very simple statement got me thinking about a few things. The post was this: “Education isn't for employment. Education is for enlightenment.” A key point that I always made to my students was that education happens all throughout our lives. Education was not meant (in my opinion) simply to help us get a job. It's for living our best lives and we need to realize that we can keep learning from reading, watching, listening, etc. Also tied into this is the fact that as part of the enlightenment that education offers us, is that we should always look towards those things that fire us up. Those things that light us up. Those things that we feel that we are called to do. Just remember to not stop trying to be your best. Keep looking to get better. Remember, it's not just you that benefits from you being your best!! Thanks for listening. In this powerful episode, we challenge the modern myth that “good parenting” means self-sacrifice at all costs. Instead, we explore what it really takes to show up strong for your family — starting with how you lead yourself. From the societal pressure to “do it all” to the quiet burnout no one talks about, we unpack how ignoring your own needs doesn't make you a better parent — it makes it harder to be the present, grounded leader your kids actually need. We redefine self-care as self-leadership and break down the mindset shifts, personal responsibility, and daily actions that help you parent from a place of strength — not survival. If you've ever felt guilty for wanting more time, more space, or more growth… this conversation will give you permission to take it — and a plan to model a healthier path for your family. Because your kids don't need a perfect parent. They need one who's fully alive.
