Carlo Rincón, aka San Andrea, is a singer and songwriter from Denver, CO. Carlo discusses a feeling of being out of place in most places- being engrained with his Columbian heritage while still "looking white" caused him a lot of social anxiety growing up, which led him to songwriting as an outlet. His love would deepen as he found writing as a way to demonstrate all of his emotions, positive and negative. Carlo also talks about the wide range of possibilities when it comes to success as an artist. Not every artist has to be number one to support themselves. It's been nearly two years since an episode was released and I'm beyond excited to introduce you all to some new friends, as well as bring back some familiar faces that you know and love. Ep. 69 “Guspy Visits” [May 11, 2021] Guspy is an artist and songwriter from California. He shares how music became his priority in life and redirected his decisions on where to go and what to do. He describes his love for the organic feeling of creating a song and releasing it for the world, while both combating, and learning to use, the current algorithmic nature of the music industry. Milian Beatz is a producer and beat-maker from Ukraine. Milian discusses his journey to the States after the loss of his father and the influence that his family and friends had on him to succeed in the music industry. He shares stories of making a name for himself around Los Angeles by working with local rappers before gaining a reputation with artists from coast to coast, such as working with Skippa Da Flippa on his latest album. Milian opens up about spending some time at a rehabilitation clinic and shares what he learned about addiction and trauma since realizing that his lifestyle was having a negative impact on his mental and physical health. Now, he's making positive changes and has been working harder on himself and his music. Sara Kawai is a Harpist, producer, and brand ambassador for many. Sara started to play the harp at a young age before realizing she had a passion for producing and beatmaking. She discusses her journey of posting harp videos on Tik Tok to now working with Audio Mack and SparkyWTF while performing with artists like 24kGldn, Peach Tree Rascals, and Shordie Shordie. Shawn Tran is a song producer and owner of the popup coffee shop, Cup of Troy. Shawn talks about working in many aspects of the music industry; producing songs, throwing shows, managing artists, and branding. Especially in regard to his coffee popup, Cup of Troy. He mentions what he has learned from building the brand and maintaining cultural relevancy, while also throwing live concerts, and producing video interviews with artists, called Coffee Chats. Emmeline Salazar is an artist manager and founder of Sleezehog Presents. Emmeline discusses being inspired by her stepfather to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. She describes the relationships she’s built and the opportunities they’ve led to, such as working with Cuco and Kali Uchis. Brittany Min is a visual artist from San Diego. Brittany shares what led her to study both Music Industry and Cognitive Science. Khi Infinite is an artist and songwriter and is a producer and songwriter. The Virginian artists describe meeting each other in school and starting to make songs together. Khi and Palace discuss their current trip to LA and the work they’ve gotten done, as well as the significance of building a community through your brand. Justin Chung is an artist manager from Southern California. Justin describes the pivot in his life from sports to music industry after sustaining an injury training for the South Korean National Basketball team. Justin details his path into management and what he has learned since cold emailing his current artists, Nick Vyner and Jack Omstead. He discusses the challenges of building an artist’s fanbase with no live concerts and the balance of managing without disturbing the creative process. Britt Jacobson is the co-founder of The Two-Seven Joint and the creator of SPCE INVDER. Reina Budesa is a Temple University Alumni and a future health care worker. Reina discusses her passion for her Spanish heritage and the influence that it plays in her life. Both in connecting with strangers as well as feeling separated from others. She describes her time traveling in Spain, Costa Rica, and her mother’s native country, Puerto Rico. Reina shares some of what she has learned from being raised by her mother, who struggled with substance abuse, and how it relates closely to what she sees while living in the city of Philadelphia. Especially in terms of the treatment of disadvantaged people and the current issues with health and safety in the US. Such as the massive opioid crisis. GianCarlo Stigliano is a filmmaker and videographer, Tomas Gesumaria is a screen printer and apparel distributor. Nikol Safronova is a graphic designer and tattoo artist originally from Russia. Alfy Bordallo is a photographer from California and Guam. Alfy shares his memories of growing up on Guam and the beauty of the trees and beaches. Kris details the journey of releasing “Valentino” with 24kGoldn and watching it blow up on Tik Tok. Kristin Robinson is a Texas born artist turned journalist and publicist, and the founder of Amplify USC. Kristin discusses working for 10k Projects and Ourros, two developing independent management companies at different phases in their careers. She compares her writing as a publicist to her songwriting by highlighting the importance of communication, and the process of creating emotion in your writing in order to have your point be received exactly as you imagined. Kristin shares what it was like moving to LA, coming from a very conservative town and household in Texas, and the 'necessity of citing her unbiased sources' when debating with her father. Kristin also gives her perspective that no one is ever really cancelled and touches on the concept of separating the art from the artist. Angel and Xage discuss escapism and how many artist turn to drugs when they can’t bear their own thoughts and emotions.
