“I Am Music,” the third studio album by American rapper Playboi Carti, dropped on March 14, 2025, through AWGE and Interscope Records, marking his first full-length release in over four years since the groundbreaking “Whole Lotta Red” in 2020. This 30-track opus, originally teased under the title “Narcissist” before evolving into “Music” and finally “I Am Music,” arrives after a torturous gestation period that tested the patience of Carti's fervent fanbase. Spanning 77 minutes, the album is a sprawling testament to his enigmatic persona, blending trap, punk, and experimental rap into a chaotic yet captivating sonic tapestry. Featuring an all-star lineup of collaborators—Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Skepta, Jhené Aiko, Ty Dolla Sign, and Young Thug—“I Am Music” showcases Carti's ability to command a cultural moment, even amidst a rollout plagued by delays, leaks, and unfulfilled promises. The album's production, helmed primarily by Ojivolta, Cardo, and F1lthy, with contributions from heavyweights like Kanye West, Metro Boomin, and Mike Dean, oscillates between glitchy synths, booming trap drums, and atmospheric flourishes. Tracks like “Evil J0rdan” and “HBA” (formerly “H00dByAir”), released as standalone singles in 2024, anchor the project with their hypnotic beats and Carti's signature vocal contortions—ranging from guttural growls to high-pitched shrieks. The inclusion of DJ Swamp Izzo's bombastic interludes ties the album to Atlanta's mixtape heritage, lending a gritty, street-level authenticity to its futuristic sound. Standouts like “Mojo Jojo,” with Kendrick Lamar's playful ad-libs, and “Rather Lie,” elevated by The Weeknd's silky croon, highlight the album's versatility, while “Like Weezy” nods to Lil Wayne—whose phrase “I Am Music” Carti borrows—with a Rich Kidz sample that bridges past and present.“I Am Music” is as much a vibe as it is a statement, reflecting Carti's evolution from SoundCloud darling to a generational pacesetter. Its rollout began in earnest with cryptic Instagram posts in December 2023, including the tagline “I am music” and Pharrell's co-sign, “Prepare.” What followed was a barrage of YouTube and Instagram exclusives—“2024,” “Backr00ms,” “All Red”—that fueled anticipation while frustrating fans with their streaming absence. Recorded in eclectic locales, including a Paris cave studio for three months, as Carti revealed in a 2023 Numéro Berlin interview, the album channels themes of love, sex, drugs, and personal turmoil, with hints of bipolar struggles and rehab musings teased in his 2022 XXL interview. Yet, lyrically, it leans more into braggadocio and hedonism than introspection, a choice that critics argue limits its depth.Reception has been polarized but largely positive, with Pitchfork calling it a “dizzying, vibes-driven flood,” and The Guardian praising Carti's “mystical vocal range.” Its 30-track length—bloated to some, a feast to others—mirrors the excess of his persona, though tracks like “OPM Babi” and “Twin Trim” (a Uzi solo cut) feel like filler. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, moving 298,000 units, cementing Carti's commercial clout. Still, its messy release—delayed from midnight to dawn on March 14 amid sample clearance woes—mirrors its unpolished edges, with some accusing Carti of coasting on aura over substance. Regardless, “I Am Music” reaffirms his dominance in the rage-rap lineage he pioneered, a chaotic masterpiece that thrives on its contradictions.

We had the pleasure of interviewing UMI over Zoom video!R&B singer-songwriter UMI announces her new EP talking to the wind out January 19. She also releases the second track off the project, “why dont we go.”talking to the wind follows UMI's critically acclaimed debut album Forest in the City (2022), which Rolling Stone praised for its expansive “sun-soaked electro R&B” and “moody slow jams.” The new 4-track project sees UMI in a confident new light as she fully embraces love, life, but above all, feeling okay with being lost in the world. Her first independent release, talking to the wind was written during a transitional period. Ultimately, UMI found wisdom and the creative motivation to write the EP through meditation and getting in touch with the elements by literally speaking with the wind.UMI's second offering from the project, “why dont we go,” begins with reverberating vocals before funk-infused guitar and a snapping bass line come into play. It's the perfect backdrop for an upbeat anthem about throwing caution to the wind and falling in love. The accompanying video is a playful celebration of youth and beauty. UMI and her friends are the epitome of carefree as they dance around a sunlit room.“This song is about enjoying your eternal youth, to be playful, to be free, to not think so much about life. Through the lyrics I paint a scene of me falling in love with someone I met for the first time, dancing through the night and forgetting my parents advice. ‘why don't we go' is me inviting myself and the other person to just let go and to live for the sake of living—even if it's just for one night,” UMI says of the single.“why dont we go” channels many of the same themes as UMI's previous single “happy im,” released on August 11, existing in the same sonic universe but paired with a more danceable beat. Upon release, “happy im” was praised by outlets like Billboard and Vibe, which raved “UMI is a whimsical, enchanting dream personified. With her new single, ‘happy im,' she kicks off her 2023 in bliss.” V Magazine said that “the infectiously uplifting track is enough to cheer audiences up instantaneously.” And Numéro Netherlands summed up her trajectory, stating that UMI is “gearing up for a prolific, passionate, and powerful new season.”On November 27, UMI will host two meditation events at Lune Souleil in Downtown Los Angeles. An extension of the meditations she leads before each of her concerts, UMI and attendees will celebrate that evening's beaver moon aka the November full moon. At both the 7 pm PT and 9 pm PT meditations, UMI will lead group breathing and a sound bowl session to infuse the power of the moon into attendees. On December 2, UMI will join Jhené Aiko at Oakland Arena, where she'll perform her new singles from talking to the wind as well as hits from Forest in the City. Coco Jones and Tink will also make special appearances as openers. With only a debut album under her belt, UMI has quietly risen to the forefront of R&B. Beyond tens of millions of streams, Complex hailed her as one of the “20 R&B Artists to Watch in 2023,” noting, “Even if you aren't familiar with the name yet, it's highly probable you've heard her voice. UMI is just getting started and feels poised for greatness.” Beyond plugs from MTV, Vogue and more, Pitchfork said that “her growth is both exciting and compelling.”ABOUT UMI:UMI is a 24-year-old Seattle native pioneering a new sound rooted in neo soul and folk. Her deepest intention is to use her music as a vessel for healing and human connection. Meaning ocean in Japanese, "umi" is a beautiful reflection of her artistry - soothing like a day spent in nature. She flows across melodies and allows herself to dive into the human experience in a way that leaves listeners feeling deeply understood. UMI's Japanese roots as well as her life journeys as a Queer woman can be felt throughout the themes of her songs. The energy of her melodies reflects her personality - deeply caring and inviting. Currently living in Los Angeles, UMI continues to create genre-bending music that captivates and inspires listeners. We want to hear from you! Jhené Aiko ICYMI & Bad Bunny Make Out Drama
Today's dose of "Vitamin D" is dedicated to passion. Oftentimes people ask, "How do I find my passion? How do I tap into my purpose? What do I look? What should I do? How do I know when I see it?" Well, I was listening to Jhené Aiko and in her track "While We're Young" she up there talking about love, but I look at it as love for anything, right? She says, "I'm telling everybody your mine and I like it and I really hope you don't mind. I can't fight it. No, you know, I cannot hide it because I'm so excited that I finally decided on you." I feel it's the same way with your passion or purpose. You're just going to be so excited about it. It's going to be what wakes you up. It's going to be the button that presses you to keep going. And you're going to want to tell the world about it because you appreciate it, you love it, and you honor it. That's how you're going to know that it's yours. Now, she continues on to say, "I want to lay with you, spend the night with you, then spend my life with you. All right, I'll go everywhere you go. You know I'll go. I'll go everywhere you go." When it's your past and your purpose don't let nothing stop you. That's your peace. That's it for your dose of "Vitamin D." In the loose words of Jhené Aiko... 'me time' should be YOU and ME time! OBVIOUSLY. This episode dives into our experiences on the struggles of keeping our identities in a relationship. Loosing our 'sense of self' can be (and has been) a real issue for us, so we're here to share what we've learned about ourselves so far! Today I thought about the realization and perspective of being just fine. In many life situations, in spite of the feelings that may arise, we have the choice to see and recognize that we are actually ok. Ask yourself in that moment, am I actually ok and you may surprise yourself with the truth. Experiment and check out Jhené Aiko's Trigger Protection Mantra Embrace the journey...this is the way
