“With 200 to go, I felt really strong. I wasn't really burning yet. With about 120 to go coming off the curve, I saw everybody right there. I was like, ‘I feel amazing!' The crowd all stood up and it was super electric. I was like, ‘I have a shot now.'”My guest for today's episode is Cooper Lutkenhaus, the 16-year-old Texan who just ran one of the most astonishing races in American track and field history at the U.S. Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Cooper placed second in the men's 800m in 1:42.27 — a U18 world record, a three second personal best, and the fourth fastest time ever run by an American. He finished just behind Donovan Brazier, the former world champion who made his own remarkable comeback. Cooper was in 7th place with 150m to go. He stayed calm, executed his race plan, and closed in a blistering 12.48 seconds over the final 100m, surging into second and nearly catching Donovan Brazier at the finish line. This was a performance that defied age, experience, and expectations, and announced Cooper as the future of American middle distance running. In this episode, we get into it and try to answer the main question: how did this happen and who is Cooper? It wasn't just a great race for a high schooler; it was a great race, period._____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Cooper Lutkenhaus | @cooper.lutkenhaus on InstagramProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr on InstagramMentioned in this episode…Watch: USATF Championships Men's 800m final_____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSOLIPOP: Straight out of Bikini Bottom, Olipop's limited edition SpongeBob cans have arrived. Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour
The Halacha below was derived from multiple classes orated by Rabbi Eli Mansour in the Bekiim B'Halacha series. Click on any of the dates below to hear the original audio files, which are the sources for today's Halacha below. 04/07/25 ; 04/08/25 ; 04/09/25 ; 05/06/25 ; 05/08/25 May Another Person Help Put Tefillin On You—And Who Qualifies to Do So? The act of putting on Tefillin is a personal Misva that requires intention, precision, and sanctity. But what happens when a person cannot do it themselves? May another person assist? And are there restrictions on who is allowed to help—such as a woman, child, or even a non-Jew? This Halacha explores the boundaries of assistance, the impact on kavana and the Beracha, and the situations where help becomes a necessity. Is a Person Allowed to Receive Help Putting On Tefillin? Yes. A person may receive help putting on Tefillin, especially when needed due to age, injury, or inexperience. Ideally, a man should put on his own Tefillin to perform the Misva personally, but Halacha allows for assistance when necessary. The Misva lies in the placement and binding of the Tefillin onto the body. As long as the wearer has the proper intention (kavana) and recites the Beracha, the Misva is fulfilled—even if another person places or wraps the Tefillin. This applies both to the Shel Yad (on the arm) and the Shel Rosh (on the head). Help may be given with positioning, adjusting, or tightening—especially if the wearer cannot reach, does not know how, or is worried about doing it incorrectly. Does the One Assisting Need to Have Kavana? No. The kavana that matters is that of the person wearing the Tefillin, not the one providing assistance. The helper does not need to have in mind that a Misva is being done. The individual receiving the Tefillin is the one performing the commandment, even if someone else does the physical action. Therefore, one can fulfill the Misva even if the helper is not religious, does not know the laws, or is not thinking about the Misva. Can a Woman Help Someone Put On Tefillin? Yes. A woman may assist someone with putting on Tefillin. Since the woman is not fulfilling the Misva for herself, but simply helping position the Tefillin on another, there is no issue. This applies to mothers helping sons, nurses helping patients, or even a bystander helping a man with limited mobility. As long as the person wearing the Tefillin recites the Beracha and intends to perform the Misva, the placement by a woman is Halachically acceptable. Some might wonder whether the woman should wear gloves or avoid contact, but Halacha does not require this. Modesty and appropriateness should always be observed, but the assistance itself is permitted. Can a Child Assist an Adult? If the child is old enough to understand how to properly place the Tefillin, and is respectful and calm, he may help. However, ideally, the Tefillin should be placed by an adult, since a child may lack the strength, precision, or awareness needed. Still, in the absence of alternatives—for example, if a young son is helping his elderly father—it is acceptable. May a Non-Jew Help Someone Put On Tefillin? Surprisingly, yes. A non-Jew may assist in the physical placement of the Tefillin—provided that: - The person wearing the Tefillin recites the Beracha - The non-Jew does not interfere with kavana or Beracha - The Tefillin are placed correctly and securely This is relevant in cases of hospital care, where nurses or aides who are not Jewish help position the straps or box. The non-Jew is not fulfilling the Misva, and the Halachic responsibility lies entirely with the person wearing them. However, it is crucial to ensure the Tefillin are not handled disrespectfully, and that the placement is correct. If the non-Jew does not know how to handle them properly, one should avoid asking for help unless truly necessary. What If the Wearer Cannot Wrap the Strap Themselves? If a person cannot wrap the retzuot due to paralysis, amputation, weakness, or other physical limitation, another person may wrap the Tefillin for them. As long as the Bayit is placed properly and the intention and Beracha are performed by the wearer, the Misva is fulfilled. It is best for the wearer to be involved to the extent they can—such as holding the box in place, tightening the strap, or reciting the Beracha before assistance begins. If none of that is possible—for example, a fully paralyzed individual—the helper may do everything, and the person fulfills the Misva mentally, with kavana in the heart. Can the Helper Speak or Interrupt During the Process? While helping another person put on Tefillin, it is best not to speak during the process—from the time of the Beracha on the Shel Yad until after the Shel Rosh is secured. Just like when putting on one's own Tefillin, interruptions are discouraged, unless for a Misva or necessary communication. The helper should be mindful and respectful, preserving the sanctity of the moment. Summary - A person may receive help putting on Tefillin if needed. - The Beracha and kavana must come from the person wearing the Tefillin—not the helper. - A woman, child, or non-Jew may assist if done respectfully and correctly. - The helper does not need to have kavana to fulfill the Misva. - The wearer should be involved as much as possible, even minimally. - Speaking or interrupting during the process should be avoided unless necessary.

Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. The Concacaf Nations League semifinals will be played tonight as the USMNT hosts Panama at 7pm followed by Canada vs. Mexico at 10:30pm, you can watch both on Paramount+. Excited to see a fully healthy Tyler Adams working under Mauricio Pochettino, curious to see if Josh Sargent can be the player for the USMNT that he's been at Norwich, and I want to see if Weston McKennie's desired "nastiness" comes out tonight in the team. With meaningful games few and far between for the USMNT between now and the World Cup opener next June, this is an important test for Pochettino and the team. Lots of eyes on Jesse Marsch and Canada as well against a Mexico side that has not been impressive for a little while now. Japan booked their spot in the 2026 World Cup this morning with a 2-0 win over Bahrain. Takefusa Kubo scored a goal and assisted on the opener. They are the first to achieve qualification, joining the hosts for next summer's tournament. Australia moved a step closer with a 5-1 win over Indonesia this morning as well.4 upsets in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup last night as El Farolito, Little Rock Rangers, and Virginia Dream knocked off pro teams to advance. The Des Moines Menace, stacked with former pros, also won although it's hard to put it in the same group as the other amateur teams. Sacha Kljestan scored twice as the Menace defeated Sporting Kansas City II. One element of the USL promotion and relegation announcement yesterday that came out after the fact is that it is contingent on the first division professional league launching. Paul McDonough feels that it wouldn't be as "authentic" if it just includes the current USL Championship and USL League One setup. According to the USSF Pro League Standard, they'll need 12 teams in 3 time zones and in stadiums of at least 15,000 seats to start a first division professional league. I'm just hoping that the plans are more concerned with long-term sustainability than short-term buzz. A new 7v7 event is launching internationally for women's teams called the World Sevens Football. The idea is for it be like grand slam events throughout the year and with a $5 million purse for each event. The first is set for May in Portugal and will include top women's professional clubs. Will it include current women's professional players? UEFA Nations League quarterfinals today, Italy will be shorthanded against Germany at Mateo Retegui is out with a thigh injury.
The Yankees' mounting injuries raise concerns about their season's potential, casting doubt on their World Series aspirations. Boomer also addressed the Mets' catcher and second base issues, expressing confidence in Edwin Diaz's return to form. C-Lo's update included Jerry's birthday breakfast mishap, Tracy Morgan's food poisoning incident at MSG, and the Vikings' withdrawal from the Aaron Rodgers pursuit. The hour concluded with a discussion of the Valspar golf tournament and Andre Chi's successful Monday qualification.

Ciarra and Samantha have special guest midwife Leonora Colen back discuss the complexities of high-risk pregnancies. What an OB/GYN considers high risk can be completely different than high risk in the midwifery setting. Leonora emphasizes the importance of risk assessment over the label of 'high risk.' Together they explore common reasons for risk assessment, such as preeclampsia and gestational diabetes, and highlight factors that are often misunderstood as high risk. The discussion also underscores the significance of childbirth education and the need for trust between expectant parents and their healthcare providers. Ultimately, the conversation aims to empower parents to make informed choices during pregnancy and childbirth.
