Listen in to see what you'll find in Frayed Promises. note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you.  Set in the late 19th century, Frayed Promises is full of family drama and life lessons we could all use a reminder on.   Frayed Promises by Lynn U. Watson Sequel to The BookFest® Award Winner, Tangled Promises Wurttemberg, Germany, 1881 “I'll keep your secret. But, Clara.” Oma looked her granddaughter in the eye. “Choices carry consequences.” Clara and Daniel--the Baron's daughter and the family carriage driver, followed their hearts and married secretly, circumventing nobility's rules. They conduct their lives separately while sneaking every opportunity to be together. When Clara is forced to reveal her marriage, can she also hide the life growing inside her, and what punishment awaits from her father? If Vati sends her away, Daniel promises to follow. But unexpected family troubles bring them face-to-face with the words of Proverbs 16:9. A man's heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps. Her grandmother's last warning spins like a tempest threatening to shipwreck their joy and fray every promise they have made. Will they trust that God gives impossibilities beautiful endings? If you enjoy stories of faith in the face of society's pressures and trusting God in times of struggle, you'll love this closed-door romance that will keep you guessing until the end. For readers of Tracie Peterson and Ann H. Gabhart. NOTE: Inconvenient pregnancy, sanctity of life, and past abortion are a part of this story—handled with gentleness and grace. Jesus loved to use stories to communicate Biblical truth, and I think that's one of the reasons I love Christian historical fiction authors so much. We can learn about God and ourselves through the stories they create. We can be transported to different times and different places, and we can see ourselves and God's redemptive plan across time. My guest today, Ann Gabhart, is a best-selling author who has been creating memorable stories for over twenty years, and her latest book, The Song of Sourwood Mountain, takes us to the dawn of the twentieth century in Eastern Kentucky with the story of Mira. Her story reminds us all of the unexpected blessings that can come when we dare to give up control of our lives to God. Lean in and listen as we get to know Ann Gabhart and the heart of her latest book.  Email: carolmcleod@carolmcleodministries.comHttps://carolmcleodministries.comFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/carolmcleodministriesInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/carolmcleodministriesYoutube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQE6z9U5VR9tjoJB1NAsgMw

Talking with Ann Gabhart is always a pleasure, but this time we got to chat about a book that I feel like is going to be my favorite of all the books she's ever written--and definitely a favorite of 2024. Listen in to see why I'm so excited about The Song of Sourwood Mountain. note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you.   With a story reminiscent of Catherine Marshall's beloved Christy, The Song of Sourwood Mountain touches at the heart of what historical romance readers love best--history, local culture, faith, and an epi romance.  Well, when I started reading, I knew this book had all that and more. I mean, it kicks off with a proposal from a man our heroine hasn't seen in years and didn't know well then.  If you love a good marriage of convenience story, I'm sure you'll love The Song of Sourwood Mountain.   Get the book from bakerbookhouse.com for 30% off with free shipping! The Song of Sourwood Mountain by Ann H. Gabhart   While the century began with such promise, it is 1910 when Mira Dean's hopes of being a wife and mother are dashed to pieces. Her fiancé dead from tuberculosis, Mira resigns herself to being a spinster schoolteacher--until Gordon Covington shows up. No longer the boy she knew from school, Gordon is now a preacher who is full of surprises. First, he asks Mira to come to Sourwood in eastern Kentucky to teach at his mission school. Second, he asks her to marry him. Just like that. And all at once the doors that had seemed firmly shut begin to open, just a crack. With much trepidation, Mira steps out in faith into a life she never imagined, in a place filled with its own special challenges, to serve a people who will end up becoming the family she always dreamed of. From the pen of bestselling author Ann H. Gabhart comes a heartwarming story of the unexpected blessings that can come when we dare to follow the Lord's leading. When the Meadow Blooms by Ann GabhartIf any place on God's earth was designed to help one heal, it is Meadowland. Surely here, at her brother-in-law's Kentucky farm, Rose and her daughters can recover from the events of the recent past--the loss of her husband during the 1918 influenza epidemic, her struggle with tuberculosis that required a stay at a sanatorium, and her girls' experience in an orphanage during her illness. At Meadowland, hope blooms as their past troubles become rich soil in which their faith can grow.Dirk Meadows may have opened his home to his late brother's widow and her girls, but he keeps his heart tightly closed. The roots of his pain run deep, and the evidence of it is written across his face. Badly scarred by a fire and abandoned by the woman he loved, Dirk fiercely guards his heart from being hurt again. But it may be that his visitors will bring light back into his world and unlock the secret to true healing.Bestselling author Ann H. Gabhart explores the tender places within the human heart in this character-driven story of trusting God to turn our burdens into something beautiful.Get your copy of When the Meadow Blooms.Get to know Ann Gabhart."Hi, glad you could stop by to get to know me better. I'm a country girl, born and raised on a farm in the Outer Bluegrass region of Kentucky. I know you're thinking horse farm, but no, not out my way. Mostly cows on the farms around here. My grandfather did have a big old workhorse when I was a little girl. My family grew tobacco and corn. We had a few milk cows, some hogs and sheep, but mostly beef cattle. I grew up working on the farm and enjoying the woods and animals. My roots go deep in the land, and I now live on a farm just a mile away from the farmhouse where I was born and raised.I started writing when I was ten and have been writing ever since. My first published writings (personal experience pieces, youth stories, and poems) were in church periodicals. My first novel, A Forbidden Yearning, a historical romance about the settling of Kentucky, was published by Warner Books in 1978. Since then I've published over thirty other novels for adults and young adults. My husband and I were both very young when we married, but we defied the odds and are still married all these years later. That could be because we went to church together and were committed to the Christian life. We are blessed with three wonderful children who picked some great people to marry and now we have nine amazing grandchildren I spoil every chance I get. I've been going to the same small country church since I was seventeen and I used my memories of how the church used to be in my Heart of Hollyhill books. My church was established in 1812 and it's inspiring to think about all the people who have served the Lord there. And I do love to write in my office with big windows all around. Writing is what I've always wanted to do. The desire of my heart is to tell stories to readers like you. Thank you for reading!"Visit Ann Gabhart's website.

Beloved historical Christian author, Ann H. Gabhart has a new release, and I was so excited to talk to her about her book, When the Meadow Blooms, and to talk about her love for story, for Kentucky, and for nature, as well as how they infuse her stories. Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. This Author Brings a Ray of Sunshine and A Bunch of Hope Only an author like Ann H. Gabhart can write a story that is both unique and parallel to current history.  Set after the Spanish  Flu pandemic,When the Meadow Blooms captured my imagination the moment I started reading. Ann's description of nature, of her Meadowland, and the delightful little girl who drew birds to dot her I's and a long-tailed mouse at the bottom of her letters promises a read like no other. I haven't even met Dirk yet, and I already love the lonely recluse. Oh, and that's an important thing to remember... the "Look Inside" sample is already available on Amazon!  EEEP! We also chatted about some of her other books (let's pester the publishers for more Hidden Springs Mysteries!) and the way her faith elements work their way into the stories. Hint: this book is more of a "and a little child shall lead them" than the wise, old sage we usually see from her. Like most of her books, When the Meadow Blooms is available on Kindle, in paperback, and on audio! Furthermore, you can get the paperback for just about a dollar more than the Kindle version (and FREE SHIPPING!) if you order from Baker Book House before May 3, 2022.  After that, the price goes up a little (but is still 30$ off retail). We just don't know about the shipping.  So, it's something to think about.  Grab it fast and you save a bundle (I have mine on the way!   When the Meadow Blooms by Ann H. Steel Magnolias - Holding on to the good of The South

Judy Blume once said "Librarians save lives: by handing the right book, at the right time, to a kid in need."    Librarians play an important role in the lives of those who love to read. But what if you had no access to a library nor books? Today we are discussing some heroic librarians that filled a gap in a time of great need in the South.    Under President Roosevlet, The Pack Horse Library initiative provided women jobs as  librarians sent deep into Appalachia on horseback to deliver books. The project was implemented by the Works Progress Administration (WPA), and today we are honoring these steel magnolias that saved lives in Kentucky through books.  Additional resources mentioned:  "That Book Woman" by Heather Henson  "Along a Storied Trail" by Ann H. Gabhart Orphaned in the cholera epidemic in Kentucky's early nineteenth century, Adria Starr was raised by a slave. Now at nineteen, she must stand up for his freedom--and in the process, find her own.   Orphaned in the cholera epidemic of 1833, Adria Starr was cared for by a slave named Louis, a man who stayed in Springfield, Kentucky, when anyone with means had fled. A man who passed up the opportunity to escape his bondage and instead tended to the sick and buried the dead. A man who, twelve years later, is being sold by his owners despite his heroic actions. Now nineteen, Adria has never forgotten what Louis did for her. She's determined to find a way to buy Louis's freedom. But in 1840s Kentucky, she'll face an uphill battle.   Based partly on a true story, Ann H. Gabhart's latest historical novel is a tour de force. The vividly rendered town of Springfield and its citizens immerse readers in a story of courage, betrayal, and honor that will stick with them long after they turn the last page.   Inspirational Inspirational [Revell, On Sale: July 3, 2018, Paperback / e-Book, ISBN: 9780800723644 / eISBN: 9781441219770]   Buy RIVER TO REDEMPTION: Amazon.com | Kindle | BN.com | Apple Books | Kobo | Google Play | Powell's Books | Books-A-Million | Indiebound | Ripped Bodice | Amazon CA | Amazon UK | Amazon DE | Amazon FR
