While the earth shook and concerns rumbled, we're grateful there were no injuries. This unexpected geological event sets the stage for a broader conversation about how we consume news today, as many are turning away from traditional sources in favor of the immediacy of social media and online platforms.Political intrigue takes center stage as we touch on President Biden's surprising decision to pardon Hunter Biden, offering a lighthearted take on the often unpredictable nature of politics. We then shift gears to explore an international incident involving the alleged sabotage of underwater communication lines by a Chinese commercial ship. Amidst these serious global happenings, there's room for laughter as we recount the unexpected spotting of our podcast sticker in Mountain Home, Arkansas, sparking a humorous chat about stickers and distribution strategies. As the weather shifts in Southern Illinois, prompting a blend of anticipation and reluctance for the colder days ahead, we chat about technological advancements promising to change our lives. An AI model touts more accurate weather forecasts, and in a lighter note, an 11-foot-high iced latte sets a new world record. In the final episode of our look back at season one, Andrea reflects on her experience interviewing Hope Ybarra, how it impacted her in regards to her sister, and audience reactions to the conversation. * * * Andrea has made an intense connection with Hope Ybarra's family, and asked experts, doctors, and the detective so many of her burning questions about Munchausen by Proxy. But she's become increasingly fixated on talking to Hope herself as she comes to realize that it may be her only chance to get the insights she needs. In this stunning season one finale, Andrea travels to Mountain Home, Idaho, to meet with Hope Ybarra. In this intense, emotional back-and-forth, we hear straight from Hope what life is like for her after being released from prison. We find out what she's up to and what she hopes for from the future. Hope listens to her own family—all of whom she's estranged from with the exception of Robin—talk about what she was like before everything fell apart. She insists that she still loves her children, despite what she did. We see the human being behind the monstrous acts that splashed Hope's story across headlines and landed her in prison for a decade. Andrea asks Hope what might have been done to help her and what she might say to her younger self if she could go back. Finally, she tells Hope that if she really wants her family back, she should get treatment and offers to help her if she wants that. Hope is friendly and warm in person, but Andrea is left with the unsettling truth that she hasn't changed. * * * Follow Andrea on Instagram for behind-the-scenes photos: @andreadunlop Buy Andrea's books here. Chelsea Goodrich was a returned missionary pursuing a graduate degree in California when she came forward with allegations that her father, John Goodrich, had molested her throughout her childhood. (In a statement to The Salt Lake Tribune, John Goodrich has denied the accusations of sexual assault.) The alleged abuse, the subject of a recent Associated Press investigation, is not the reason, however, that Chelsea, now a 38-year-old licensed counselor, no longer identifies as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She attributes that shift to the response she received when she tried to protect children. Friends and family, many from the tightknit Latter-day Saint community of Mountain Home, Idaho, where she grew up, discouraged her from continuing to press the matter, urging her instead to forgive her father. In this week's episode, she joins Deidre Nicole Green, a Latter-day Saint and theologian at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, Calif., to discuss how church leaders, members and others sometimes “weaponize” forgiveness, silencing survivors and preventing justice.

The Three Links Odd Cast

Odd Fellowship has found many spaces in which to adapt its Degree work.  Our beginnings were in pubs and taverns so Degrees were originally performed there.  Eventually we built lodge halls but we still looked for more interesting and unusual places to perform Degrees.  Caves became a popular choice in the 20th Century.  California's Cave Degree near Yreka is the most well-known, but other locations have done outdoor and underground Degrees, including Dead Horse Cave in Idaho.  Located near the town of Gooding, Dead Horse Cave first hosted the Second Degree in 1947, a tradition which continued until 2004.  Brother Donnie Marvin, PGM, PGP, and PDC of Idaho gives his recollections of the Dead Horse Cave Degree as well as some great stories from his musical career and some other historical tidbits from Idaho Odd Fellowship.  The Shoutout goes to the newly-rechartered Brazos Valley Lodge #76 of Texas.  For the Odd Podge, Toby tells about his enjoyment of the Sand Drags at Mountain Home, Idaho and Ainslie prepares for his trip to Sovereign Grand Lodge.

A Word With You

Our local high school band worked hard to put on some great performances at our football games. I know. Our daughter was one of the trumpet players. I also remember going to band competitions at different schools. We have some precious memories of sitting on the top bleacher with a wind chill that would have made a polar bear go inside. My teeth were chattering loud enough to be in the percussion section! Our band also got to perform in several local parades. But, there's just a handful of high school bands that get invited to play in one of America's really big parades. You know, like the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. You know, the Mountain Home, Arkansas, band - not too far from us - they had that thrill. Inside this exciting adventure for a small town band was a wonderful true story. The band had a tuba player that you might never expect to be in a marching band. He's blind. As you think about that, it raises a lot of questions, doesn't it - about how he could possibly participate in a marching band's maneuvers. The answer is a young woman who dedicated herself to being his guide. She doesn't play an instrument. But anytime that band makes a move, she slips her arm in David's arm and directs him wherever he needs to go. And on Thanksgiving Day, there they were, doing their band routine in the middle of Manhattan's Herald Square - the blind tuba player and the one who guided him there. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "When You Can't See the Way To Go." Some might have thought there was no way that a blind tuba player could ever march with the band. But that would not take into account the one who made it possible - one person always there to guide him. You have a person like that for the many times when you can't see the way to go. The sightless band member was able to go places he could otherwise never go, and do things he otherwise could never do because of the one who directed him. That's your story, too. It's my story. Because, if you belong to Christ, God's promised that you will never be left in the dark, and never be left clueless. If you're at one of those anxious, confusing times when the road ahead isn't clear, have I got a promise for you! Oh yeah, it's one of my favorites. It's recorded in Isaiah 42:16. It's our word for today from the Word of God. It happens to be an anchor verse for me. Your Lord says: "I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them." Wow! See. this is your promise to claim! You have nothing to fear from the unknown because you belong to the One who can see it all. And how will He show you the way? First, He'll use personalized Scriptures; verses that He will, upon request, guide you to. Verses that will seem like they have your name on them, or in them, and that will be that "light for your path" that the Bible talks about (Psalm 119:105). Secondly, He'll guide you through what I call prayer-time peace. Trust what you feel most consistently in the times when you are alone with God, when other voices are not there to confuse you. God says to "let the peace of Christ rule in your heart" (Colossians 3:15). And thirdly, God will show you the way to go through confirming circumstances - open doors, recurring counsel from godly people, events that echo the Scriptures that He's been giving you. The "don't know" times are God's instrument to drive you deeper into Him, to surrender any self-reliance for a desperate dependency on your God. You may not know which way to go, but you don't have to stand there fearful, paralyzed or marching in circles. Your Lord, your Shepherd is placing His arm inside yours to lead you where you could never go without Him.

Here at Certiport, we're privileged to work with many state education representatives who know and understand the power of career and technical education. The impact of these state leaders is substantial, as they have power to decide what educators can teach in their classroom.  One state who has caught the vision of CTE and the power of certification is Idaho. They've been running a statewide certification program since 2015, starting first with Microsoft certifications (https://certiport.pearsonvue.com/Certifications/Microsoft) and later adding in Adobe Certified Professional (https://certiport.pearsonvue.com/Certifications/Adobe/ACP/Overview) as well.  In this episode, we got to sit down with two Idaho educators who have been through the statewide process: Janet Webb and Lyndy Higgins. This dynamic duo comes from a small southwestern Air Force town in Idaho, with limited opportunities. Together they have grown a program that offers students opportunities to not only certify but also receive credits in some of the basic business and technology college courses. As co-advisors for the local BPA chapter, these teachers have gone above and beyond in offering students more than just a high school diploma.  Janet Webb has been teaching business and technology for 24 years. She taught for six years in California and the last 18 at Mountain Home High School in Idaho. When Idaho offered the opportunity to start certifying students in Microsoft, she jumped on board. She feels so lucky that Idaho supports the CTE programs and students and hopes to continue working together to provide students in Idaho great opportunities. Lyndy Higgins comes from the corporate world, where she worked as a Project Manager. She's been an educator for seven years in Mountain Home, Idaho and a Region Facilitator for the Idaho Department of Education for a year, mentoring teachers as they navigate their way through Imagine Academy, BrainBuffet, and Certiport certifications. Her industry work has empowered her to teach her students the workplace ready skills needed to pave the way for each student to be successful in with Microsoft and Adobe certifications.  Janet and Lyndy gave us the full history of certifications in Idaho schools. We talked about the challenges they faced, and how the state offered support to help make the program successful. They even gave some practical ideas for how they promote the programs in their schools and districts, to get students engaged and excited about certification from day one. If you're a part of a statewide certification program, or hoping to be, this episode is for you.  Janet and Lyndy talked about some fabulous resources they use in their program. Here are the links for those interested:  Idaho's Statewide certification coordinator has graciously offered to chat with anyone interested in launching their own program. Andrea has made an intense connection with Hope Ybarra's family, and asked experts, doctors, and the detective so many of her burning questions about Munchausen by Proxy. Tonight's guest, wished to remain anonymous. Therefore, she went by the name “Sundown,” in the interview.“Sundown” was driving home, 1 night, near Mountain Home, Arkansas, when the unthinkable happened. Her kids were in the backseat, and she was driving down a country road, when all of a sudden, she saw a huge, black, canid, laying on the road, up ahead, in her lane. What surprised her most about the black canid was the fact it was 3 times bigger than any Saint Bernard she'd ever been around or seen. She came upon the creature so quickly; she didn't have time to swerve or hit the brakes. All she could do was grip the steering wheel tighter and hope for the best. The next thing she knew, her car was airborne. Even though all, 4 wheels came off the ground, due to her driving over the huge, black figure, miraculously, she landed in her lane and never lost control of her car. Thinking that any problems that might have arisen from the situation were over, she breathed a deep sigh of relief. Little did she know, her Dogman problems were just starting! It's 1 thing to have a Dogman encounter when you're out and about, but when you run 1 over, with your car, and it follows you home, that's a different matter, altogether!Premium memberships are now available!
