Producer & Sunset Roundtable host Drew Dempsey sits down in legendary studio 2 with Cherry Glazerr for one of the greatest interviews to date. Guitarist and singer Clementine Creevy is ‘Cherry Glazerr' and Cherry Glazerr is an American rock band from Los Angeles, formed in 2013. Clem's sound has transitioned from lo-fi and garage rock on her debut release Haxel Princess in 2014 to a more polished rock sound, with elements of grunge, punk and new wave on their subsequent releases Apocalipstick and Stuffed & Ready. Apocalipstick was produced and engineered by Joe Chiccarelli who resides here at the Sunset complex. This is just a fun goofy interview, so chill out. #cherryglazerr #indierock #sunsetsound

Sociologist Carlos Martínez García is an opinion columnist for the Mexican national daily La Jornada . He writes on various topics, beginning with his advocacy for religious and other minorities in southern Mexico. In this bilingual episode of OP Talks, Martínez García and religious historian Dr. Daniel Ramírez discuss the role of the public intellectual in religious and political life and how Evangelicals have shaped Mexican political discourse. Martínez García addresses: The generally respectful relationship between indigenous evangélicos and leaders of the 1994 Zapatista uprising: Religious tolerance was included in their initial declaration, and evangélicos were later credited by Zapatista leaders for their safe escape from the encroaching federal army in the first month of the revolt. The unique pastoral and prophetic ministry of the controversial San Cristóbal Catholic bishop Samuel Ruiz García. Evangélico historical memory and amnesia: Although individual Protestants were present in colonial New Spain, Protestantism as an organized movement was not. The roots of Spanish-speaking Protestantism, however, stretch to the 16th century, with the translation work of migrating, exiled Spanish humanists like Juan Valdez, Francisco Enzinas, and Juan de Pineda. The project culminated in the historic Biblia del Oso, Casiodoro de Reina's 1569 Bible translation (in Antwerp) and in Cipriano de Valera's 1602 revision (in Amsterdam), known today as the Reina y Valera Bible. The iconic Bible's long-delayed introduction and reception in the Spanish-speaking Americas in the 19th and 20th centuries seeded a new era of religious pluralism, leaving an important cultural and literary imprint, as seen in the works of such literary lights as Chiapas poet Jaimes Sabines; Mexican cultural critic Carlos Monsivais; Argentine poet Jorge Luis Borges; Mexican poet and literary critic Octavio Paz; and Mexican essayist José Emilio Pacheco, among others. The first and last titles in the Monsisvais oeuvre—for example, Principados y potestades [Principalities and Powers] and Apocalipstick— reflect the Sunday School Bible recitation practices that formed the writer's childhood. The January 2019 celebration of the Biblia del Oso anniversary, with a commemorative postal stamp issued by Mexico's Correos Nacionales' (national postal service), marks a historical and cultural watershed in Mexico and Latin America.

The 2018 Summerfolk Music and Crafts Festival takes place the weekend of August 17-19 in Kelso Park, on the shores of Georgian Bay, just outside Owen Sound. A beautiful site - it's the perfect situation for a summer festival. Each year, Summerfolk prides itself in putting together a wonderful musical line-up, and the 2018 edition is no exception. To learn more about this summer's festival we caught up with artistic director James Keelaghan. For more information about Summerfolk, visit http://summerfolk.org. Cherry Glazerr's rip-roaring rock and roll documents, to paraphrase band leader Clementine Creevy, “the struggles of a 17 year-old”, at the only volume that makes sense for that age - loud. Cherry Glazerr's latest album, 2017's perfectly-named Apocalipstick, is loaded with guitar-heavy jams that channel that youthful energy with a barely-contained chaos that shines through in this frenetic session in the KEXP Live Room with Cheryl Waters. Producer Kevin Dietz has once again offered his services to the winner of CBC Searchlight 2017, as part of our Canadian Musician Career Booster Prize Pack. Dietz is the head engineer at Mississauga's famed Metalworks Studios and worked with artists from Tom Cochrane and Randy Bachman to Alexisonfire and Silverchair. We'll talk about his work with last year's winner, Desiree Dawson, how artists can best prepare for a studio session, and more. Jerry Leger’s new album, Nonsense And Heartache, showcases a combination of primal rock and roll and raw, confessional balladry. The separation between the two is evident by the album’s title, and it is in fact two distinct collections of songs presented on two slabs of vinyl. In many ways, Leger’s artistic path has been leading up to this ambitious display of both sides of his musical personality, fueled by countless nights playing in Toronto bars with a loyal band equally committed to keeping rock and roll’s original flame burning. Apocalipstick is the follow up to The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer's 2014 release A Real Fine Mess, which received considerable recognition, including a Blues Album of the Year JUNO nod and win for the Blues Album of the Year and Alternative Album of the Year at the WCMAs. As the band explains, the new album came together "from the desire for companionship, the endless pursuit of tone, the strength and glue of family, and above all, the love and admiration for each other's skills." We'll unpack exactly what that means and what's to come for the duo.
Romance novelist Bernadette Walsh interviews Lisa Acerbo. Lisa is a Connecticut high school teacher who writes horror, paranormal romance and urban fiction. Her titles include Apocalipstick.
