We are back and really getting into full swing! On this weeks podcast we welcome Andrew Groves, the songwriter, producer, resident of Iceland and former vocalist and guitarist from the much loved and much missed Arcane Roots. Andrew goes deep down into his love of all things Anime with his Top 3 Anime shows, picking some incredible sounding programmes from this wonderful world of animation. This is a great chat for anyone with even a passing interest in this incredible Japanese cultural phenomenon. Newcomers and long standing fans (with Matt and Remfry somewhere between the two) will no doubt get a kick from the huge amount of detail Andrew goes into on this pod, so roll up those sleeves and get stuck in y'all! Over in that good old corner of recommendation, the chaps spout the good spout about another anime series (if you couldn't get about from the main pod chat), a superb debut album and an incredibly powerful and important piece of (2021) cinema. Crikey. The gang also have a load of shout outs, a Tuesday Top 3 and that pretty much sees us though for this episode. Enjoy! Follow us on Twitter and Instagram @3magicnumberpod

Every so often a band comes along that almost seems too cool for school.Bands with a laid back, almost flippant attitude and enough nonchalance to almost make them sound French.Of course, most bands that come across like that generally get caught up in their own self importance and soon fall by the wayside but every so often you come across an outfit that really is just one of the cool kids, but maybe lost in the wrong postcode.Emerging Gold Coast prog – core (for want of a better analogy) IBVS are that band for this generation.Fuck, they are too cool even to bother with vowels in their name. But don't let that fool you, because these three musical enigmas most certainly can count and spell and stuff. So much so that hearing them play their instruments is similar to learning your twelve times tables in pre-school – highly rewarding but hard as fuck!Blending almost every form of music you can think of (all the cool ones anyway), IBVS have arrived without telling anyone they were even coming. And the local music scene is all the better off for it.Drawing inspiration from bands such as Between The Buried and Me, Arcane Roots, A PerfectCircle, A Wilhelm Scream, Cog, Karnivool, Periphery and All That Remains, IBVS set themselvesthe ethos of creating art that pushes the boundaries of their song writing and playing abilities, whilst still remaining accessible to the listener, but most importantly, to have fun. And at the verycore it, this is what IBVS truly is about, mates having fun with music.Fresh from releasing their debut single Follow The Gaijin, and the promise of more to come with an as yet unreleased debut EP, IBVS are a name sure to remain on your lips long after your initial introduction, with the band sitting down for a chat with HEAVY's Jimmy Glinster to allow us greater insight into the where's, why's and how's.

This week, it's Kyle's turn to wax lyrical about an album he absolutely loves. It's a good job Rich is here to, you know, actually objectively talk about the songs. Key talking points - Some Spiderman: No Way Home spoilers (sorry!), Kyle goes to see Reading, Rich briefly turns into 'that guy', some 'show and tell' on a podcast, Andrew Groves is repeatedly impressive, some honest ripping off and a riff that falls down some stairs. PRESS RELEASE Novatines release music video for explosive new single ‘Honey'     Bath-based alternative rock four-piece Novatines are due to release their latest explosive track ‘Honey' to SaySomething Records on September 30th.   Jamie Beale - Vocals, Guitar Tom Cory - Vocals, Guitar, Synth Callum Moloney - Vocals, Drums Tom Turner - Bass     Formed in the winter of 2017, the band immediately made a name for themselves on the UK circuit with their anthemic, high-octane rock songs,  which saw them tour extensively throughout the UK and Europe on both headline and support tours, playing alongside the likes of Alabama 3, Arcane Roots, Von Hertzen Brothers and Sweet.   Novatines' sound is a rebirth of classic British rock with influences from 90s American alternative rock and grunge. Influenced by bands like The Beatles and Foo Fighters, the group have been hotly tipped by Louder Than War as one of the ‘hottest new UK guitar bands'.    ‘Honey', recorded live at Real World Studios is a no nonsense rock ‘n' roll slammer full of angst, adrenaline and frenetic noise.    Produced by both the band and Andy Scott (Sweet), Honey is about “seeing through fads, trends and short lived ‘next big things' with no real substance. We live in such a throw away culture where we are told what we should like or dislike 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Honey is about taking yourself off of the conveyor belt and seeing things as they are”, explains lyricist Jamie Beale.   ‘Honey' captures lightning in a bottle and shakes it up for good measure, creating an explosive cocktail of 90s grunge and 70's rock bleeding into the present day.    Honey is due for release September 30th via SaySomething Records and will be available on all major platforms.     Social Links   Website: https://www.novatines.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Novatines/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/novatines Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/novatinesband/               My thoughts Honey opens with a fantastic riff that slaps you in the face to see if your paying attention, it's a track that hits the heights very quickly it does not mess around its straight to the point with punchy guitars, pounding dream beats and a great hook in the chorus, a great track very well mixed my only issue I wanted more, a track that needs to go into your playlist and will have you singing the chorus for a while       You can find this episode and previous episode in the below links Spotfiy https://open.spotify.com/show/6Jj9SsrXxve44839dptihN… Apple https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/setting-the-tone/id1499390718 Google https://podcasts.google.com/?q=setting%20the%20tone podbean https://Settingthetone2.podbean.com

For Trade Off, Steve wraps his ears around Okovi by Zola Jesus for the first time, whilst Remfry gets to grips with Assassins: Black Meddle Part 1 by Nachtmystium.Elsewhere, Remfry gets sad about seeing his last ever Arcane Roots show, Steve gives us the review that literally no-one has been asking for in the form of U2 at London’s O2 Arena and they both give their accounts of Black Peaks's sold out headline show at The Underworld. Plus, there's discussion of Noel Gallagher’s new 70s disco direction and Steve gets so excited about the return of Tool that he insists everybody takes their tops off!In addition to all that, we also have the second part of 'The World According to Jamie Lenman', where the big JL leads us through 'The Madness', the elusive seventh album from ska-pop legends Madness See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

We meet progressive rock trio Arcane Roots, who left safety behind and learned new instruments in their search for a more cinematic, electronic sound. And we embark on our own journey of exploration, in the foothills of classical music with Ruth Rosales and Bradley Creswick. On this episode of Be The Change Puerto Rico Podcast we present ''Lip Service: When Democracy Need Not Apply to the Territory.'' President Obama's lack of clarity and commitment to Puerto Rico's century old quest of decolonization and self-determination under American rule has many in resignation and in ire. Lip service can only take a politician so far, but action is what the island really needs. Unfortunately, Puerto Rico's lack of political power within the American union of which it is a part, makes it hard for the island to commit leaders on a national level to its causes. But now, with the advent of the Puerto Rican mass migration of the past decade, especially to Florida, a swing state, this might begin to change as most Puerto Rican residents in Florida support Statehood for the island. In order for politicians to gain their trust and their vote, they will have to start to commit to resolving the island's woes at the hands of the current status quo - which has done nothing but destroy its economy, its social, and its political structure to shreds.Music: Apollo 440 ''Crazee Horse,'' Arcane Roots ''You Are,'' Poisonblack ''Mercury Falling,'' William Control ''Cemetery,'' Opeth ''Windowpayne,'' and Black Books ''The Big Idea.''Be The Change You Want To See In Puerto Rico.Get Involved!Write us at: bethechangepr@gmail.com
