Words by Angela CroudaceUK death metal giants Ingested are returning to Australian shores, and drummer Lyn Jeffs gave HEAVY the inside scoop on what fans can expect. After their tour in 2023 alongside Archspire, the band was blown away by the warm reception and immediately knew they had to come back — this time for a headlining run.“We always wanted to come over and do a headliner,” Lyn shared. “The Aussie crowds were amazing — really good energy, and we made solid connections with bands like Melancholia and Werewolves. It just felt right.”Ingested's recent shift back to a five-piece line up has brought fresh energy and creativity to both the stage and studio. With the addition of guitarist Andrew and bassist Tom, the band embraces a more collaborative approach to writing and performance. “It's way more dynamic now,” said Lyn. “We've got new perspectives, and it's even influencing the sound. There's a section in the new track ‘Ultra Flesh' that's just bass — something we've never done before.”Their physical and mental preparation for tours has evolved over the years, too. Gone are the hard-partying days of trying to live out Pantera-style tour videos. Now, Lyn sticks to yoga, running, and a gym routine to stay stage-ready. “Playing the kind of music we do is like a sport,” he said. “It's not normal to play these tempos — it's f***ing stupid really — but if you prepare well, you can still perform at your best.”The band is embracing this tour as a way to connect their evolving sound with their roots. Expect older tracks to return to the set list, now that they've got longer headline slots.Despite their brutal sound, Lyn reminds us not to judge a book by its cover. “People expect us to be scary or into horror 24/7,” he laughs. “But most of us are just regular people who like football, cycling, or different kinds of music.”With their grounded approach and renewed energy, Ingested's return to Australia promises to be a tour that fans — and the band — won't soon forget.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

In wrapping up 2023 for the Scars and Guitars podcast, I take a closer look at the significant events and highlights defining the musical journey. Throughout the year, I attended a variety of live performances, including shows by Emperor, I Am Morbid, Incantation, Extreme, Living Colour, Hanabie, Archspire, Ingested, Triple Kill, Orpheus Omega, Halo Effect, and Misery, amongst many others. I discuss each show and summarise the performance and why it was noteworthy. The podcast featured engaging conversations with prominent figures across heavy metal and beyond. I had the pleasure of hosting many Cradle of fIlth alums: Paul Ryan, Chris Bell, Nigel Wingrove, Mike Exeter, James McIlroy, and, notably, Sarah Jezebel Deva. There were conversations with Scott Edgar from Misery, Phil Soussan, Jesper Strömblad, the Tardy brothers from Obituary, Jason Bonham, Jamie Stinson AKA Astennu, Blitz from Overkill, Mille Petrozza, David Ellefson, Marc from Metal Church, Scott from Carnifex, Dave Coutts and Mark Dunn, Eric from The Amenta, Dave Haley and many, many more. I discuss why each episode is essential. In terms of literature, my collection expanded with the addition of the Silverchair Book and Tana Douglas's roadie memoir. So I have something to say about these books. Regarding musical releases, several notable albums caught my attention. There's a summary of each, and I explain why the alums are worthy. Suffocation's "Hymns from the Apocrypha" highlighted Terrence Hobb's consistent musical prowess. Overkill's "Scorched" reaffirmed their enduring impact in the world of metal. "When Angels Kill" by Fifth Angel impressed with Ken Mary's drumming finesse. Incantation's "Unholy Deification" offered doom-tinged death metal at its best. Cadaver's "The Age of the Offended" featured a strong death metal statement with Ronni Le Tekrø. Sadus returned with "The Shadow Inside," showcasing Darren Travis's dedication. Wes Hauch's "Death is But a Door (EP)" demonstrated Wes Hauch's guitar virtuosity. Grand Cadaver's "Deities of Deathlike Sleep" delivered old-school Stockholm death metal. The Amenta's "Plague of Locus" showcased their take on classic covers. Werewolves and Faustian, featuring Matt Wilcock, offered creative and competent riff-heavy music. Additionally, I've compiled an eligibility list for future discussions, which includes Cyhra, Doro, Till the Dirt, Sylosis, Svalbard, Cryptopsy, Watain, Cavalera Brothers, Immortal, Alice Cooper, Cannibal Corpse, Shepherds Rein, Steven Wilson, AETERNUS, Aeons Abyss, Kataklysm, Ringworm, and Carnifex. In conclusion, 2023 was a year filled with remarkable music and insightful conversations about extreme music. I remain committed to providing a serious and thoughtful perspective on the genre, and I look forward to continuing this journey in the future. Thank you for being a part of the musical exploration! Have a great Christmas and even better 2024! Andrew McK.

Jason Momoa personal life.He first meets his fiancée, Simmone Jade Mackinnon, on the set of Baywatch in 1999. They enjoy six years together and become engaged in 2004. However, the engagement is called off when he starts a relationship with actress Lisa Bonet in 2005. Contrary to popular belief, he and Lisa Bonet don't actually marry until October 2017, even though they have two children together—Lola Iolani, born in July 2007, and Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha, born in December 2008. In January 2022, he and Bonet publicly announce their split. To prepare for roles, he often takes them to heart. He learns martial arts for his character Ronon in Stargate Atlantis. In 2017, he starts practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu.He has a deep passion for heavy metal music and often says that he builds his characters based on metal songs. Notably, members of the metal band Archspire make cameo appearances in his TV series See, where he also trains with the band's vocalist, Oli Peters, to perfect his screaming technique for a significant scene. In 2020, he even features in the song "Doom" by the black metal band Scour. He's not just about acting and music; he's a hobby musician himself. He plays various instruments like the bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele, and guitar, the first of which he picks up after being inspired by Tool's song "Sober."His body tells a story too. He has numerous tattoos, including a half-sleeve on his left forearm, a tribute to his family god, or "aumakua."He also holds strong beliefs and isn't afraid to stand up for them. He participates in protests against the building of the Thirty Meter Telescope on Mauna Kea, which is a holy spiritual site for native Hawaiians. But life hasn't always been smooth sailing. On November 15, 2008, he sustains a facial scar when he is slashed across the face with a broken beer glass during an altercation at Birds Cafe, a tavern in Hollywood. He undergoes reconstructive surgery, receiving approximately 140 stitches, and the assailant is later sentenced to five years in prison for the attack. The scar remains, adding a unique touch to his later work.

With this episode we will officially and indefinitely conclude our first season by capping off our primary topic of the year; Religion. This time, for once, we aren't criticizing the legitimacy of anybody else's religion, but rather creating our own cult...I mean, religion. Intrinsic Naturalism and the Covenant of Six. Finally, the boys discuss a range of topics in this final episode of the season from the oldest civilizations in the world and their influence on language and culture henceforth to the genocides of religion throughout the ages before we prepare to take a one month hiatus from releasing episodes to rebrand the entire show, expand our reach into a larger number of outlets, and simultaneously release large troves of bonus content, both free and Patreon-subscriber-exclusive. Stay tuned for additional holiday and non-holiday bonus content before the REBRAND rolling out on January 1st! In this penultimate episode, the boys discuss the importance of new experiences and environments, how diversity leads to objectivity, and how Alex's unprecedented amount of travel throughout his life have led him to two primary conclusions: That people are both exactly the same and entirely different no matter where you go. We also talk how Ben received karma for trying to get out of recording the podcast in the form of hitting a deer with his car, how Alex's two biggest fears are heaven and hell, the importance of eustress, and how Alex is the hypocritical Christian that Ben wishes his family could be. Unfortunately, as per our theme this year, the conversation once again devolves into an argument about the fallacy of belief in an afterlife, why God is not worthy of worship, and a strangely Ken-Ham-Like rant from Alex. Ben finally comes clean about his nicotine problem and why he lied on the last drug episode... We also discuss our experiences with psychedelics, stimulants and other experimental drugs from stupid eras long forlorn. On the philosophical front, we talk about losing connection to reality and what reality means in the first place as well as a lengthy tangent on Ben's extreme addiction to GTA Online. Lastly, we discuss the dichotomy between Alex's filtration of his true self around his parents vs. Ben's attempts to become even more unapproachable. In a world where the vast majority of people aspire to act like a carbon copy of one another, the only way to develop your own truly unique voice is to embrace your personal or artistic self and remain true to that. Anything that is considered great art or achieves a high level of notoriety will always receive hate due to its boldness or unique controversy. The boys discuss why balancing humility and narcissism is a key element to both creativity and to one's own self-awareness or objectivity as well as the pains of having to hide who you truly are amongst other people. We also talk about the reasons why it is so important to mitigate the influence of or entirely remove these people from your life. Who do you become when you sacrifice the inherent parts of yourself for the sake of being accepted by conformists? The boys dive into productivity, motivation, and what it means to be truly fulfilled. Is it plausible for this generation to retire in the intended manner or is it a fools dream? What is the common denominator between all successful entrepreneur? The boys are going to church? Christian Nationalism is currently one of the biggest threats to the U.S. Government and is already been undermining the constitutional rights for decades, climaxing thus far with the overturning of Roe V. Wade several months ago. In this episode, we dissect the legitimacy of Judeo-Christian principles and explore the idea of America's founding under Protestant principles. Were the founding fathers all really Christian? Just how much of a separation of church and state did they really intend? And what is the future of the entanglement between Christian Nationalism and right-wing politics? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it Superman? No, it's a 6 foot tall, 32 year old man in ripped black jeans and silver chains pretending to levitate in front of paid actors to a 2003 post-grunge song. It's the man, the myth, the MYSTIQUE: Chris Angel! In this episode the boys talk about some of "high profile" magician Chris Angels' cringe appearances, speculate on the legitimacy of hit TV show The Carbanaro Effect, and describe the stunning beauty that is Penn and Tellers' sleight of hand. We explore modern Satanism. The boys come back with Satanism Part 2 and talk about The Satanic Temple and other modern splinters of the "religion". We go over the Seven Tenets of The Satanic Temple and how they differ with the LaVeyan school of thought as well as cover the relationship between the COS and TST to cosmic and existential nihilism, a core concept within both sects. If $250 doesn't fit in your budget, then there's Church of Satan Light, where you can pay $25 to still receive absolutely no sense of community, paired with extra servings of bureaucratic hypocrisy and a touch of subjective reality on the side. We explore OG Satanism. Since Satanists don't actually believe in or worship any supernatural being, the only devil we bring up is Anton LaVey, the founder of The Church of Satan. A controversial figure in his time, LaVey pioneered the first rendition of modern, non-theistic Satanism and took up the banner of religious liberty, banding outcasts together under a common theology of rationale, science-based logic and self improvement. Individualism is key. If you want to pay $250 to join a group of elitist nihilists with entitlement complexes to instigate petty internet dramas whilst having absolutely no involvement with political activism, making the world a better place, or altruism, then join the COS! To meth or not to meth? We finally uncover the reasoning behind why Alex loves methheads, crackheads, and pillheads, all of which he considers to be different species, as well as why Ben disdains them to his very core. We also talk about careful cultivation of your friend circle and not submitting to arbitrary authority just to appease their feelings, even when it means cutting people off. It's the first time Alex has ever agreed with Lucifer despite Ben's incessant attempts to reveal the same truth to him over the past few months. We kick the episode off by discussing the importance of separating art from artists and learning to respect art in all forms. Great art is frequently created by less than ideal people and learning to separate the two is crucial. For the main topic we round off the three week Satanic Panic series we've been discussing by talking about the major catalyst for its popularity: The McMartin Preschool Trial. From believing every word that children said, to storming a daycare and burning it down, everyone from parents to police had a role in furthering the extent of the panic. The most expensive trial in history at its time, it all began with one extremely mentally ill woman. What makes it even crazier was that an almost identical case with the same name occurred in Canada. (worth checking it) Understanding these things is useful when looking at our government and the way that these types of conspiracy theory play out today in real time. The boys continue their discussion on The Satanic Panic but dive even further and enlighten the world with Ben's 7 Foundational Factors that led to its occurrence. Those Factors Are: Mcarthyism, The Injection of Religious rhetoric into everyday life, The ACM (Anti-Cult-Movement), the founding of The Church of Satan, the inception of the social work field, the popularization of PTSD, and fundamentalist Christianity's reemergence as a major political power. We briefly discuss some psycho shitbag mental health experts. The boys sit down and discuss the big one, a topic near and dear to both our hearts: The Satanic Panic. The precursor to modern day Qanon conspiracies furthered by Christian Nationalism. The Satanic Panic was a moral panic that swept the nation during the 1980's and demonized everything from music and games to, most importantly, people. Over 10,000 unsubstantiated cases of the supposed kidnapping, torture, and consumption of thousands of children in Satanic ritual abuses. More importantly, no kids ever went missing and many of these cases were later appealed or dropped due to lack of sufficient evidence. However, some innocent people are still imprisoned to this day due to claims of supernatural rituals from over 30 years ago. We discuss the foundational systems that enabled this moral panic to occur in the first place and talk about the history of the events that happened. The boys try to tackle The U.S. Supreme Court and its recent actions without bringing up religion and fail miserably. We try to discern if religion is inherently toxic or if humanity itself is the problem. We discuss why religion is essentially just a dumb story for dumb people to satiate the masses and talk about how Christian Nationalism has influenced the overturning of Roe V. Wade, which is just a tipping point for the things to come. Bitter or sweet, creamy or sour, heavy or light? Whether it's beer or music, every genre or category can be respected for what is even if you aren't necessarily a fan. True objectivity should allow you to dictate the specific parts about something that draw you to it. Even if you decide to hate it, you should at least understand both the reasons that you dislike it as well as why others are attracted to it. Being on LSD for 100 days straight? Isn't America great? Infecting minority groups with STD's for 50 years to study the effects? Best country in the world. The U.S. Government is far from clean and in this episode we explore just a handful of the atrocities committed by the CIA and other federal institutions. What will they do next? Are there morals underlying amorality? Is there a right way to kill someone? A wrong way? Do certain people deserve death? If so, who decides? We do. And so do you in this episode. The boys examine some classic trolley problems as well as create some of their own extra divisive ones. Trolley problems are an experiment in ethical thought sociology that force people to choose between two (usually negative) options. The boys explore and explain the future and origins of the podcast as well as conclude that objectivity is the only way to be objective. Both sides of the political spectrum are exactly the same and equally batshit insane, but the left is obviously right. Everybody is and is not a LaVeyan Satanist.
