Travis Post never intended to go into the safety field. But after a Skilsaw injury at one of his first construction jobs left him a partial-leg amputee, his career trajectory completely changed.“In the early eighties, I received my safety baptism, as we call it,” Travis says in this episode of the No Accident podcast, presented by TRUCE. “It took about two years of physical therapy to learn how to walk again.”He took a new job in respiratory therapy, then was working in the cardiac unit of a major hospital when he got a call from his old employer — the company he was working for during his injury wanted to know if he had any interest in construction safety. Travis thought it sounded interesting, and went back to work for them in a completely new capacity. As a former construction worker who considers his injury the result of “horseplay” on the job, Travis was able to go into that position with a valuable point of view. He saw an opportunity for people who had experienced workplace injuries to educate employees who hadn't, which made such trainings a more meaningful experience.“I started hiring employees that had previously shot their foot or their hand to the plywood to actually do training classes,” Travis said in one example of a response to several nail gun injuries. “The guys actually listened to them because they're active employees in the trade.”His team then took this approach one step further and started having individuals who had injured themselves severely enough to receive modified duty worker's comp payments speak to other workers about that experience to show that “you don't get rich off of it. It's basically there to let you survive.”These employee-led trainings are a result of Travis' belief in employee-based safety, which he refers to as a hybrid of behavior-based safety and education that help protect a company's profit.“You take an individual and have that individual completely buy into the system through education and clear direction,” he said. “If they have input in the whole process, then we get 100% buy-in.”Featured Guest
There are things in life that fly at us that we didn't expect-trials, troubles, and traumas--things we have done as well as things done to us that we do not like, but God has a way of taking them and turning them into unexpected blessings. As Travis continues walking us through the books of Acts, we find a church growing and persecution growing along with it. Join Travis as he walks through Acts 8:4-8; 26-40 and looks at Philip the evangelist's unexpected cross-cultural ministry to Samaritan's. In doing so, we see that persecution enabled thrust him out, but it resulted in people coming to Jesus in ways that he probably didn't imagine.
In Stephen Maxwell Johnson's powerful new film, High Ground, a young indigenous man, Gutjuk, teams up with a World War I soldier / ex-sniper, Travis, to track down the dangerous Bayawara, a fierce warrior in the Territory, who is also his uncle. As Travis and Gutjuk journey through the outback they begin to earn each other's trust, but when the truths of Travis' past actions are suddenly revealed, it is he who becomes the hunted. High Ground was conceived as a story that would challenge accepted notions of the colonial settlement of Australia. High Ground is a powerful human drama, instilled with a strong sense of hope and fear, a story of treachery, heroism, sacrifice, freedom and love, misguided beliefs, an unequal struggle for power, and grief. But above all it is a story about the finding of one's roots. Director Stephen Maxwell Johnson joins us for a conversation on the shameful treatment the indigenous peoples of Australia have suffered under, the denial of that history and why it was so important that High Ground reflect the human drama, instilled with a strong sense of hope and fear, but above all a story about the finding of one's roots. How do people respond when God really transforms a person's life? Is God really a threat to how we live? Join Travis as he examines an episode from the early church. When God works, people take notice...some love it and others hate it. Threats, transformation, and testimonies. How do you respond whenever God shows you something? Should we expect something different from what the early church got? Listen in and find out! As Travis continues his exploration to Acts, we come to a pivotal moment in the story. Last week, as we looked at Acts 3, Peter and James healed a lame man and Peter got all confrontational with the people who were amazed. His second major sermon in the book of Acts was all about God's work. He caused such a stir that the Jewish leaders got involved—and they were not happy. Today we move on to Acts 4 and learn that not everyone is happy with God's work in the world. Here's a quick outline of where we are headed this week. 1. When God works around us it Threatens the way we live, it: A. Challenges what we believe. B. Confronts us in our sin. C. Changes those around us. 2. Even so, God equips believers to Testify on His behalf. A. about his Power at work. B. About our Personal responsibility. C. About the only Savior He has Provided for us all. 3. Finally, God's work is seen in how he Transforms us. A. God gives us Strength. B. Because of this many will try to Silence us. C. But God's kingdom cannot be Stopped. Three questions for you to contemplate this week as you remember this text: 1. God's work challenges everyone. Sometime it is easy to think about others who are challenged by God's work. But the question for us is harder—how is God's work challenging you? 2. Are we willing to testify on God's behalf? If no, why not? Remember, testifying is not just the words you speak (though those are important!), it's also about the way you speak them and whether they line up with how you are living. Peter was confrontational, but his message was reconciliation with God, and his actions backed up his speech. 3. Do you really believe that God will give you the strength to stand in the face of opposition or are you afraid that God won't really transform you? Why do you think that might be?
On a very special episode of the Growing with Purpose podcast, the tables are turned and host Paul Spiegelman is in the hot seat. Small Giants Leadership Academy graduate Travis Slisher interviews Paul about his life journey and shares with Paul the impact of the Small Giants Scholarship Fund, which allowed him to embark on a journey to grow as a leader. Travis has a story that many emerging leaders can identify with: he believes in a different, more purposeful style of leadership but he often feels isolated in his beliefs. Where could he find training and mentorship that aligned with his values and would give him the tools to grow himself and his organization? "Then I discovered this community that I didn't know existed in Small Giants," says Travis. "I found what I was looking for here, and then Paul invested in me personally through the Small Giants Scholarship Fund. I want to thank him from the bottom of my heart." Travis is the inaugural recipient of the Small Giants Scholarship Fund, which connects emerging leaders to the funds they need to complete the Small Giants Leadership Academy and become certified Small Giant leaders. As Travis' graduation approached, he asked for the opportunity to interview Paul — who seeded the Scholarship Fund — about his own leadership beliefs and lessons learned. This episode is a rare opportunity to hear directly from our co-founder about his early days building a business with his brothers, which eventually became BerylHealth, why he started the Small Giants Community, and the endeavors that give him a sense of purpose today. Paul also shares formative family stories — like his father's experience leaving Poland right before Hitler invaded — and his urgent advice to people of all ages: if you're not fulfilled by the life you're in right now, do not settle. In this episode, Travis has the opportunity to talk to the person who founded the Community that is impacting his life today and ask anything he wants. They cover everything from mindfulness to firing clients to the current movement for racial justice.

In this episode, Chase DiMarco talks with Travis Hornby from Student Loan Planner about how to navigate and plan for student loans. Travis’ advice comprises common but costly mistakes that debtors make, the kinds of resources that you should or should not trust, and how to avoid negative psychological consequences such as the guilt surrounding student loans. [01:05] Common Student Loan Anxieties [03:20] Federal vs Private Loans [05:53] Choosing Medical Schools Based on Specialty [09:30] The Types of Consultations Provided by Student Loan Planner [11:30] Media Sensationalism & Poor Resources [16:36] Student Loan Planner vs Other Resources [19:55] Common but Costly Mistakes Travis starts off with two specific tips: 1. opt for federal loans where possible and 2. opt for a school that maximizes your chances of placement in your desired specialty, even if that school is more expensive. Pertaining to the first piece of advice, private loans are likely to require full payment, whereas federal loans may qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLR). Pertaining to the second piece of advice, due to programs like PSLR and others, attending two schools of vastly different prices are quite likely to end up costing the same amount. Transitioning to more general advice, Travis urges us to be cautious about the quality of the resources that we use when making decisions about student loans. Student loans are a complex issue and often require expertise beyond social media posts and sensational media that prioritize ad revenue. To illustrate, Travis talks about a woman who refinanced her federal loans out of anxiety instigated by social media, costing her a six-figure sum. Whilst we should maintain agency over our personal finances, issues surrounding student loans require vigilance, caution and trustworthy resources. If you are a medical student looking for quality resources on student loans, head on over to Student Loan Planner where you will have access to a podcast, a student loan calculator and if you want, personalized pre-debt or post-debt consultations. As Travis told us, we should not remain anxious over student loans, but instead confidently but cautiously seek out the best long-term options!

On April 14, 2012 Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills woke up in a hospital in Germany after spending 4 days in a coma. It was his 25th birthday. 4 days earlier he had been blown up by an IED in Afghanistan and was now a quadruple amputee. I was honored to speak with Travis and to hear his story first hand. He is the epitome of resilience and is someone who honestly does not dwell on the past. As Travis says “you can’t always control the situation but you can control your attitude.” Despite missing all four limbs Travis says he doesn’t think of himself as different than any other person. He just “has a few more steps to get ready in the morning.” Travis shares his story and recovery journey with us and also talks about the importance of getting mental health help when you need it. Travis and his wife Kelsey run the Travis Mills Foundation, which is a non-profit for recalibrated warriors and their families. Laura Eisenhower shares about aliens, abduction and contact and whether aliens are good or bad. Are they friends or foe? Should we try and make contact? MILABs and more are discussed in this episode of the TruthSeekah Podcast. Laura Eisenhower is the great granddaughter of former president Dwight D Eisenhower, and she shares about her bizarre upbringing and being in tune with her spiritual and psychic abilities from a very early age. Laura is very well educated in astrology and offers private readings and intuitive healing sessions on her website https://cosmicgaia.org . In this episode of The TruthSeekah Podcast Laura explains the difference between Good and bad E.T.s and explains some of the experiments that have been taking place within the government for years such as mock UFO abductions and Milab programs. In the late 80s and early 90s there were many people coming forth with stories and experiences about how they were abducted by grey aliens in the middle of the night. The abductees would recall short greys waking them up in the middle of the night and taking them out of their rooms and aboard UFO spaceships. Many of the people talked about how the aliens were able to teleport them through a window or even through their own bedroom wall. One thing that stands out about these abduction scenarios is that many people reported that while on the ships there were men watching the experiments that were being done to them by the little grey aliens. These men were in full military garb. This leads us to what is known as the MILAB abductions which stands for Military Induced Abductions. It is believed by many that these were mock abductions done to People by the military to push fear and hysteria among those interested in UFO and alien contact. Around this time many movies started to come out that pushed a fear-based agenda when it comes to UFOs and aliens. One of the movies made famous from the early 90s was a film called A Fire in the Sky which was based upon a true story by Travis Walton. This movie was usually found within the horror section at the local Blockbuster Video stores. As Travis Walton begin to talk more and more about his encounter with these alien beings he spoke about how Hollywood manipulated his story and changed what was a beautiful encounter with these beings into a horror movie. As The Story Goes Travis Walton and Friends were working in the woods when they saw what looked to be a huge fire. After work they drove towards the light and saw that it wasn't a fire at all but a large UFO hovering over an open field in the woods. Travis was the only one to get out of the truck as he was awe of his sight that was before him. As he got closer to the craft it lit up even brighter as to take off and when it did the electromagnetic force from the craft knocked Travis Walton backwards through the air and onto the ground. At this point his friends panicked and left Travis in the woods alone. The movie shows Travis waking up on a UFO craft and encountering little grey aliens that were doing tests on him. In panic and rage Travis tried to fight off these beings and they had to hold him down by force to finish their experiments. The movie portrayed this to be a very traumatic incident. As Travis travels around sharing his story at UFO conventions and various speaking engagements he talks about how he was injured when the UFO powered up and they only took him aboard to save his life. This is but one of the manipulated storylines from Hollywood that was used to push a fear-based agenda in the ufology community. Another more recent film was The Fourth Kind starring Milla Jovovich that further endorsed the evil alien scenario. In the midst of all these narratives and encounters, we have to note that there is a huge difference between what people are lumping all together. In the midst of all these narratives and encounters, we have to note that there is a huge difference between what people are lumping all together. These experiences range from alien encounters and sleep paralysis, to shadow beings and other types of spirits that influence men while they are asleep. Lumping them all together as alien encounters is a huge misjustice and this subject deserves a lot more exploration. There are thousands of people who are now having beautiful contact with alien type beings. Many are performing CE5 Global contact initiatives where they actually try and make connection with aliens and ETs from other planets. Laura Eisenhower has been a special guest speaker for the past 5 years for an event called Contact in the Desert which hosts lectures and talks from some of the biggest names in ufology from George Noory, David Wilcock, Giorgio A Tsoukalos from The History Channel's Ancient Aliens, James Gilliland and many more. Many of these names speak about beautiful encounters with UFOs and the growing fascination in the field. We rarely hear the term abduction anymore, now people rather refer to themselves as experiencers and contactees.

Travis Meadows is known by "Rolling Stone" magazine as "Nashville's most badass songwriter." Whether or not you’re familiar with or even like country music, it is often about love, loss and and human resilience. “Riser,” a song co-written by Travis Meadows and performed by Dierks Bentley, is one of those songs that stays with you long after you listen to it, and you can’t help but wonder about the life behind those words. If you listen closely, you get the sense that Travis’s depth of insight has been forged because of struggle, and that taking the long way has given him something rare and irreplaceable. Dealing with cancer at fourteen, growing up with an absent father, and wrestling with addiction are only a few of the mile-markers on his life’s journey. Today you will hear how Travis discovered how to make peace with his past and how he learned that you can’t truly appreciate light without the darkness. Travis teaches us to aim for authenticity rather than accolades, and to accept what we cannot control. He has written songs for country artists such as Eric Church, Jake Owen, Leann Womack, and Wynonna Judd to name a few, making his unique artistry unmistakable. As Travis agrees and I believe...nothing meaningful ever comes easy. Travis has had to fight for his voice, and in the process of doing so, discovered the "Riser" inside of him.
This week on Barbell Shrugged we are joined by the incomparable Travis Mash, high level strength coach, world champion powerlifter, and to be honest, one of our absolute favorite human beings in the entire world. If Travis’ name sounds familiar it’s for a good reason. This is his second appearance on the show. The first time around on episode 97 we got the chance to talk about the barbell and all of the life lessons it has taught us. As good as that show was, I think that round two is even better. Really, this might be our best strength discussion to date. For me it’s easy to see what makes Travis such an incredible coach. First, he is incredibly kind and empathetic. Right when you meet him you feel like you’ve known him all along. And when you see his work you realize just how important it is for a coach to build strong relationships with their athletes. That connection makes extraordinary strength possible. He’s kind, but he’s also been around for a really long-time (it’s OK, we’re all getting older together). He’s performed at a very high level in both weightlifting and powerlifting for many years, has even made a run at national level bobsledding. More impressive still, he’s been coaching athletes and directly applying that hard-earned wisdom for over fifteen years. So, when Travis makes a recommendation on how you can get stronger, you listen. This show was running over with but nuggets and pearls, but a few super useful lessons jump right out at me. First, competitive fitness athletes still have a lot they could learn from powerlifters and bodybuilders. One of the best examples is the row. Above any other assistance movement, this is what the average Crossfitter needs most of all. Barbell rows, chest supported rows, one-arm pulls with a super-duper heavy kettlebell, any kind will do. It hardly matters, as long as they are done often. Forget what you’ve heard, there’s nothing more functional than adding pulling power. Lessons, lessons, how about the importance of patience? If there’s one key mistake that’s keeping a lot of people weak it’s this - They don’t give the adaptations time to set in! They start out on a mission to get strong, because that’s what they need most of all. But they freak out when results don’t come immediately, or when their WOD times fall off a little bit. This is all by design. Real strength takes time. As Travis will tell you it’s a lot like working a blue collar job, like a construction gig. At first the work is just too much. You’ll hate it, no doubt. Recovery will be a struggle. You will feel like shit while everyone around you runs around like the work is no big deal. That’s when you need to hold on and be patient. The secret to getting really, super-duper strong is allowing that adaptation to take hold. You have to fight for it. The training should be really hard, but just like a bulletproof and sun-hardened construction worker, you need time to get used to it. Be patient! Find great programming and stick with it, don’t jump around. You will get faster, more efficient, and strong as hell as soon as you earn it. You just can’t be afraid of walking through hell first. Take your ass-beatings first, that’s the only way this critical and enduring adaptation can take hold. The final lesson for those looking to get really strong is this - you have to conquer the fear of lifting really heavy weights. You have to have the courage to put weight on that barbell. That’s why having a great coach like Travis is so important. You need someone, as he would say, “…To call you out when you’re being pussy.” You also need to surround yourself with great training partners who are much stronger than you, just to change your standards. If there’s a secret to training at a place like Westside Barbell it’s just that. Programming matters. You need certain tools and ideas. But never underestimate the power of a brutal training environment. These place are less like gym and more like iron forges. The whole point is to raise the expectations under pressure. That’s also the whole idea behind Travis’ top secret chain squatting program. There’s actually no secret to it. It works because it breaks down the fear. You start to get used to the way really heavy weight feels, and in time you start to believe that you can actually lift it. Once that belief starts you begin to train harder and without artificial limitations. And once that happens, watch out. There’s no telling what you might be able to lift. For more from Travis Mash and the coaching services he offers make sure to check out his website atMashElite.com, You can also find him on YouTube, Twitter and Instagram for some awesome strength videos and training tips. Travis, we’re lucky to know you, dude. When can we go for round 3? Cheers, Chris Moore
