Aliveness: Earth Medicine and Deep Inner Work to Connect us With Who We Are
How can we not only become okay with suffering but welcome it, love it, and appreciate it? That's the question that unfolds in this episode with Heather Vesey, a Wisdom Mentor. Through this emotional and profound conversation, you'll receive a beautiful call to cultivate your relationship with the Divine and with love itself. Alison has been supported through Heather's Wisdom Mentorship since the summer of 2022 and invited Heather to share this wisdom with you in this episode. “What is your way of relating to the divine inside you? It's a relationship. It's a companion. It's an intimacy. It's knowing that presence, that love that we can just not put words to is there and is yours. It's with you and for you and in you and ahead of you and behind you and around you. Express your love to that divineness and receive it back.”CONNECT WITH HEATHER Heather has always had an interest and a sense of home within the Christian Wisdom tradition. She grew up in the Indian Himalayas, where her father was a doctor, specializing in community health care. These were profoundly formative years for Heather, where her Christian faith was nurtured and where she also developed and absorbed a deep appreciation of other religious traditions and cultures. After completing her secondary education in the UK, she worked with street kids in Bolivia and Peru, and then in Nursing and Social Work. She soon realized, however, that her deeper heart was in more directly accompanying others in their spiritual Unfolding. In 2014 she moved to Colorado with her husband Nicholas, and their kids Sam and Jessica (now 19 and 17), to work at the Aspen Chapel, where she is “Director of Contemplative Work.” She divides her time between leading services and small groups there, and doing her own one-on-one “Wisdom mentoring,” a form of spiritual direction and accompaniment. This is her main focus and joy – deeply listening and accompanying people who want to live more fully into their own authenticity and relationship with the Divine.Join Heather for meditation and contemplative services. You can contact Heather directly at heather@vesey.net RESOURCES MENTIONED• An Interrupted Life by Etty Hillesum• Christian Meditation by James Finley• Bill RedfieldJOIN THE EMAIL LIST TO RECEIVE NON-OBVIOUS THINKING ABOUT PERSONAL GROWTH Sign Up for Alison's Email List HOW TO MICRODOSE FOR TRANSFORMATION GUIDEReceive the Transformational Microdosing Guide APPLY FOR EXPAND TO STEP FULLY INTO THE LIFE YOU DESIREIf you are ready to step fully into what you are here to do and live every day with the kind of magic you know is possible, apply for Expand. Aspen Chapel presents: A Concert at Aspen Chapel
In this fascinating and inspiring interview, Nicholas Vesey, Chaplain of the Aspen Chapel in Colorado, USA, talks about his journey from the world of corporate advertising via the Himalayas, a controversial self-realization organization, and becoming an ordained minister in the Church of England, to the present day and the release of his second book ‘Living the Life-Force’. Nicholas discusses the importance of realizing ‘you’re not your mind’, ‘transforming pain into love rather than transmitting it to others’, connecting with the ‘fundamental order’ of the universe and ‘reaching a point of peace regardless of circumstances’. Nicholas emphasizes the importance of meditation to ‘allow universal consciousness to come through’. This conversation will interest and fully engage anyone interested in their own path to spiritual well being. Enjoy!

This is the last of our series on the Journey of life. Which, as I said last week is not really a journey to anywhere, more like a dance with the cosmos. Over the last 4 weeks we have been looking at that dance being one of three steps. 1. Hold your nerve a. Speaks to sanity, being able to balance what is going on in your head, and what is going on out there. Hold to what you know is true in the balance of those two things 2. Put one foot in front of the other a. Cannot stand still, have to move forward, not knowing or being attached to the outcome And this week we are looking at Responding to circumstances in a loving way. So we are holding our nerve, we are stepping out of the boat and not looking down in fear and we put one foot in front of the other – what could possibly go wrong? No matter how enlightened we are, events come our way it is just about how we respond to them. Listen to hear more.
This is the third in our series about the journey of life. In the first we looked at starting over and I mentioned those three stages: Holding your nerve, putting one foot in front of the other, and lastly responding to all circumstances in a loving way. Last week we looked at how important it was to start off in a sane and balanced way. There is no pint in holding your nerve if it is going to lead to disaster, you have to be sensitive to everything around you everything inside you and everything outside you – like the balance you need on a surfboard. Today we are going to be talking about putting one foot in front of the other.
Last week we looked at starting out again. That idea that we have to continually re-commit to the journey and not let ourselves become complacent about it. It is so easy to just ‘go through the motions’, especially in a spiritual life. You just keep turning up in the hope that things will be OK. But that is bound to lead to disillusionment as we gradually realize that we are not developing. More than that – if we are not developing, are going shrinking, because nothing stays the same. The result is that we give up. Coming here to the Aspen Chapel, give up our practice, or even give up thinking that spiritual life is going to make a difference. We have to keep life fresh. And that means savoring each moment for what it can offer. Last week I talked again of those three steps. Holding your nerve, putting one foot in front of the other and responding to circumstances in a loving way Today we are looking at that first step – holding your nerve. Or as I put it on the service sheet ‘Coming to your Senses’.
Well for me it is the start of a new semester. Summer is behind us, the kids are back in school, the music festival is over, and we are left looking into the fall, towards the election, thanksgiving and eventually Christmas. And a new beginning always gives pause for thought. Where am I going? What is my life about? How am I doing? Could I do better? Where am I failing? What should I change? How do I manage? And so we look around, and we try to make adjustments. And yet as we take stock as to where we are aiming for and where we have got to, it is easy to forget that we are in fact in the perfect place to take that next step in our lives. A while ago, when I was talking about humility I said that there were three things we should do to ensure that we stay in that place of humility is: 1. Hold your nerve Speaks to sanity, being able to balance what is going on in your head, and what is going on out there. Hold to what you know is true in the balance of those two things 2. Put one foot in front of the other Cannot stand still, have to move forward, old Frank Sinatra mystical advice: do, be, do, be, do! 3. Respond to circumstances in a loving way All about love – Love the L….. How do I respond lovingly, what is the overall most loving thing to do. And that holds for when we start out on something.
