In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger, FCAH, RBHT (facilitator and retired naturopath with 30+ years of practice) chats with Russell Sturgess, about healing with Bowen through the fascia, the skin of the soul.  For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/russell-sturgess      Highlights from today's episode include: Russell Sturgess I like to use the analogy of the blue sky, our blue sky is our soul. It's blue. And it's like that all the time, you know. But what we have is all of these clouds of human filters that come over. And sometimes those clouds are storm clouds with lightning and thunder, and it covers up the blue sky.   Manon Bolliger Because the force of healing is so strong, that if you're attuned and listening and seeing it, you can't go wrong. I mean, you're part of this circuit. (to learn more about how to LISTEN to your body go to YourBodyMindReboot.com   Russell Sturgess So, the journey, and in fact, the journey is a very simple one, all you got to do is step back and become the observer. And in fact, this is one of the primary skills that anyone in healing absolutely must possess is the ability to step back and be the observer of themselves, and of other people.    ABOUT RUSSELL STURGESS:  Russell Sturgess has been described as a thought leader in Western Mindfulness. He was first exposed to the principles of awareness and mindfulness in the late eighties when providence led him to study Attitudinal Healing with Dr Gerald Jampolsky M.D. in Tiburon Ca. and Susan Trout in Washington D.C. Russell established a Centre for Attitudinal Studies in his home town in 1989 and alongside his clinical work in Osteopathic Remedial Therapies, he taught awareness and mindfulness practices for over a decade. As the adage goes, you teach what you have to learn. While studying Attitudinal Healing with Susan Trout, Russell's interest in symbology was ignited. One book that really caught his interest was Sallie Nichols' book Jung and Tarot. The revelation that the trump cards of the Marseille Tarot had a symbolic link to Christianity became an exciting prospect. This was in spite of the fact that in the religion of his upbringing, tarot was thought to be evil. Over the next decade Russell pursued an enhanced appreciation of the symbolism enmeshed in the Marseille Tarot and was inspired to write a book, given the insights he had gleaned during that time. One of the key insights was the idea that the major arcana were obstensibly 'portable stain-glass windows' that taught how it was possible to have mindfulness create a love-centred life that was sustainable.  Website | Facebook | Instagram | Linktr.ee | YouTube |   ABOUT MANON BOLLIGER, FCAH, RBHT  As a de-registered (2021) board-certified naturopathic physician & in practice since 1992, I've seen an average of 150 patients per week and have helped people ranging from rural farmers in Nova Scotia to stressed out CEOs in Toronto to tri-athletes here in Vancouver.  My resolve to educate, empower and engage people to take charge of their own health is evident in my best-selling books:  'What Patients Don't Say if Doctors Don't Ask: The Mindful Patient-Doctor Relationship' and 'A Healer in Every Household: Simple Solutions for Stress'.  I also teach BowenFirst™ Therapy through Bowen College and hold transformational workshops to achieve these goals. Diederik was born in 1942 in a tiny village south of what now is known as Jakarta, Indonesia. The first three and a half years of his life were spent in Japanese POW camps and it was here that he formed most of his core beliefs, beliefs which he thought were his actual ‘character'. After some fifty years of self-loathing, alcohol, and drug abuse he decided there had to be a better way, it was time to ‘change his mind' at the deepest levels. Through a Course in Miracles and Attitudinal Healing, he developed a radical forgiveness process that allows him to transform the self he hated into a Self whose only function is to extend love. Choose Again, his charitable society, operates a healing center in Costa Rica and he gives talks and teaches workshops in many places around the world. Some main points discussed in this conversation. Everything happens for a reason. Diederik's work goes beneath symptoms to the core belief that ‘chooses' the symptoms. Most core beliefs are formed in the first 8 years of life, and sometimes even in utero. Diederik's birth and early life in a Japanese POW camp. His troubled background. Most children blame themselves when traumatic things happen to them. Their behavior eventually expresses that guilt. Reading this line in A Course in Miracles completely changed Diederik's life: “Sin is lack of love as darkness is lack of light.” Recognizing that the world is a dream and that we are its author enables us to write a different script. Whatever we do in life reflects who we think we are. Feelings are vehicles that can take us back to the moment when their underlying beliefs were formed. “Nothing outside of me can bring me anything I need and nothing outside of me needs to change for me to be happy.” The essence of all these teachings: I am the author of my experience and everything in my life is for me. If you decide that happiness and joy are your goals, then whatever happens will serve that goal. Bliss is the goal of this process. The importance of ongoing practice. It gets easier if you persist. Diederik's Six-Step Process: Step 1: I'm upset. Step 2: Me: It's about me. Step 3: Focus on the feelings. Step 4: Remember my ancient feelings. Step 5: Establish my judgment of myself. Step 6: Embrace the truth about me. “Discomfort is aroused only to bring the need for correction to awareness.” Programs available, remotely and in residence. Dr. Larry Berkelhammer has lived with several chronic medical conditions since childhood. For decades he endured the frustration of not knowing the causes of his physical problems. Then, well into adulthood, he was diagnosed with two autoimmune diseases and a primary immunodeficiency disease. At the same time, he was told there were no known cures for any of them—and that treatment for some would make others worse. A long-time mindfulness practitioner faced with this reality, Dr. Berkelhammer became curious about whether mind training could play a role in stabilizing and even improving his health, and was determined to investigate. He soon discovered the power of the mind to heal the body. He trained with several world leaders in psychooncology, psychophysiology, and psychoneuroimmunology and spent many years gathering research and data on the mind and health. Meanwhile, he was engaged in his own process of self-discovery. Applying all he has learned, he has been able to reduce his need for medication and medical treatments, reduce chronic arthritis pain and make his medications work better for him. Dr. Berkelhammer has also trained himself to focus his attention away from illness, pain, and fatigue, concentrating instead on what he most values as a way to improve his health. Dr. Berkelhammer is a sought-after teacher on pain management and living better with chronic illness, providing instruction in reprogramming the brain to reduce physiological stress. In addition to his extensive training, he has learned much from his many years of working with people who have life-threatening and chronic medical conditions at The Center for Attitudinal Healing in Sausalito, Calif., as well as 19 years treating clients in private practice using psychotherapy, applied psychophysiology, and applied psychoneuroimmunology. http://www.LarryBerkelhammer.com
