It's like Spice World for the Village People. We watched Can't Stop the Music (1980) with our friend Jackson Cooper and we want to stay at the YMCA! Producer Allan Carr was at the top of his game after the success of Grease (1978) and the next story bursting forth was the pseudo-biography of disco's greatest novelty act - the Village People. This movie takes place in a theme park version of Manhattan where go-go boys roam the streets in a full Native American headdress, a man can roller skate down 5th avenue without being actively murdered and a leatherman can belt out “Danny Boy” standing on a piano and not be the weirdest thing in the room. The filmmakers missed the mark when they predicted disco to be the sound the 80's would be remembered for, but they wisely called multi-million dollar marketing campaigns backed by big-milk. Can't Stop the Music tops our list of “best worst movies” for its utter watchability - not to mention he full frontal male nudity in a PG movie. Come for Steve Guttenberg looking like a whole a$s snack, stay for the Village People serving the whole meal! And we're back. Listen to this week's B-Plot as the boys dissect The Blues Brothers [1980] and the on-the-same-day Can't Stop the Music. Listen to a very tense discussion between Sam and Lincoln. Find out why the Village People finally broke Lincoln and listen to what the boys have been watching recently. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
This week Cooper and Nolan man up to one of the all-time movie misfires - CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC. Billed as "The Movie Musical Event of the 80s", it was more like the dying gasps of the 70s. Either way, the performances, fashion, and wildly misplaced optimism will take you back to a time when anything seemed possible. Fame, fortune, platinum records... this episode (featuring a beer from Lost Craft) is every boy's dream!
Twitch has had a rough couple of months, but perhaps there has been nothing rougher than the international video game streaming platform's most recent attempt to assuage its streamers fears of an impending music industry led apocalypse. Just when we thought we had uncovered every possible way to die, a porn star was arrested in Spain for killing a man in a mystical ritual involving toad venom. In an overdue reckoning, several editors at traditional media outlets have resigned owing to past racist behavior as well as present dereliction of duty. Who among us could have ever imagined that the winner of the Miss Hitler beauty pageant would be a neo-Nazi? And finally, we begin our much-anticipated Summer Music Series with a deep analysis of Donald Trump’s favorite anthem: “Macho Man” by The Village People. Strap on your time machine caps and head back to January when this episode was supposed to come out! Here, we were joined by friend of the show, Phil from Ascot Vale and his dog, Louie and cat, Oscar. Upon recording this episode he was on the cusp of fatherhood and we showered him with our saintly advice, although Mike did regale us of his horror stories of having twins. In honor of the film award season that just passed the duo decided to watch a couple of razzie winners (?) starting with the very first razzie winner, "Can't Stop the Music." We have to say thanks to Joe from New Jersey for helping us acquire this film. While distracting ourselves from watching this train wreck of a movie we discover that both Reuben and Mike are shy poopers. We try to remember what Elan from Jersey City taught us about the term "Plato" in regards to beer and wine tasting. We also start the year off wrong by offending almost every demographic possible, especially the LGBTQIA+ community and are egregiously apologetic (trigger warning), sorry Uri from Boston! We spoke a little bit about Jonah and Natalie from Jersey City's wedding, from which Reuben had recently returned from. We also found it very funny that the straightest man in this movie was played by Caitlyn Jenner. We also try and decide which Village Person is our favorite, and couldn't help but notice all the glorious mustaches. After the film finished we had an encore presentation of a David Black produced documentary about his own filmmaking escapades, "A Night at the Movies: Indie Style." We were not kind in the dissection of it. In an attempt to stick with the theme of this being quite a homoerotic film, we lined up a solid list of gay beers purchased from Purvis, Beer 360, Bottle House, Thirsty Cafe and Bar, and McCoppins, and are as follows: - Holgate Brewing Millennium Falcon Empirial IPA - 3 Ravens Brewing & Mr. West Peak Hype TCDHWGSCBBMOCSNEIPA - Tiny Rebel Brewing Peaches & Cream Creamy Peach IPA - Coconspirators Brewing & Froth Magazine The Editor Passion Fruit & Guava Hoppy Sour - Moon Dog Brewery David Boysenbowie Sour Ale - Brooklyn Brewery Bel Air Sour Ale - Sailors Grave Brewing Down She Gose - Mr. Banks Brewing Mango Kettle Sour Ale - Bridge Road Brewers Magical Christmas Unicorn Ice Cream Ale - Big Shed Brewing Golden Stout Time

It's PRIDE month, and we're celebrating with a very gay movie: Can't Stop The Music! It's a kinda-sorta biopic about The Village People starring 80s heartthrob Steve "The Guttes" Guttenberg, and Caitlyn Jenner...based purely on decathlon prowess? Why were Americans so into the decathlon? Who decided to make a movie with just two actors in SIX of the eight main roles? Plus, Tripp admits a dark secret. All this and more! Here it is, saved from the fires of obscurity (thanks to some sort of diabolical hosting error). It's the first ever (and hopefully last) lost episode of Junkfood Cinema, and it's full of musicals! With a brand new edit by our producer Merrill, Can't Stop the Musicals Part 1 examines three of the most bizarre, head-scratch inducing fever dreams to ever call themselves musicals. As part of the focus group for the new direction of the Milk campaign, both Jamie and Doug agree that the 'Does A Body Good' is a more effective message with opportunities for all sorts of clever ads. It's HYSTO? #43 and this time we are out for blood! Who will be tortured the most during this throw-down? Will it be Paul, who has to watch "Can't Stop The Music" starring a group you may have heard of called Village People, or will I get it the worst when I watch "Major League 3: Back To The Minors" (in honor, of course, of the beginning of baseball season). The very first Razzie winner gets an in depth look and wow, is it bad. It truly is worse than Xanadu (which we feel is quite the achievement). Its a fake biopic of how the Village People became successful but has no basis of reality. And we should mention that its super gay (not that there's anything wrong with that). The film builds a universe that is not something we want to have anything to do with. People don't have jobs, people just come in and out of people's homes, random people off the street get pulled into parties without wanting to come to and people have NO concept of how anything works in real life. New York is built to be Camelot from Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail (Never mind, let's not go to Camelot. Ti's a silly place.) We would not like to go there. The real badness of this film is that they try to, as Sam puts it, "knock the gay off the Village People". The gayness of this movie is the truly fun part of the film but it is so muffled by the stupid story and by trying to make the Village People's characters be straight men. If you went to see this movie wanting to see a film about gay men shaking their asses, then you won't get it. Its so stuffed with characters that truly don't matter to the plot of the film and scenes that don't matter to the plot. Which leads to a too-long film with only about 10 minutes of fun. This one is close to being a fun time but it just is too damn long with too much dull dialogue and terrible jokes to make it truly fun. The stars of the show are the actual Village People but it's too muddled up with character development and backstories of Jack (Guttenberg), Samantha (Valerie Perrine), and Ron (Jenner). It is required viewing for bad movie fans but don't expect a good time. Individual Ratings: Over the top action:Cheesy effects:Horrendous acting:Laugh-out-loud-ability:Ridiculous stunts:Gratuitous nudity:Memorable one-liners: Overall Ratings: Good Movie Quality: Bad Movie Quality:

Jackie chooses yet another movie with crazy costumes and singin' and dancin'. But will the very first Razzie winner scare her away from making the same mistakes as A Star is Born and Xanadu?
