Tripp and Andrew Laino have been watching movies together since 1992, and making fun of them together since 1999, when a rainy afternoon of babysitting turned into 8 straight hours of cheesy science fiction, popcorn and jokes. The Dissecting the 80s podcast is an absolute gem for anyone who loves 80s movies and wants to relive the nostalgia of that era. As a late era Gen-Xer, I have thoroughly enjoyed every episode of this podcast since its inception. Even though I wasn't there for the actual release of these movies, I have delved deep into their back catalog and have been entertained by their insightful analysis and research. Tripp and Andrew, the hosts of the show, bring differing perspectives and their comedic banter is long-winded but always hilarious.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is their willingness to explore films from my childhood exclusively. It's rare to find a podcast that focuses solely on this era of cinema. Moreover, they look at these movies through a modern lens and don't shy away from calling out outdated stereotypes and tropes. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, this aspect really resonates with me and I greatly appreciate their honesty.
On the downside, there are no major drawbacks to this podcast. However, one thing that could be improved is the occasional meandering nature of their reviews. Sometimes they go off on tangents or get sidetracked in their comedic roads which can detract from the main topic. Nonetheless, their entertaining style still keeps listeners engaged despite these minor detours.
In conclusion, The Dissecting the 80s podcast is an absolute must-listen for fans of 80s movies. The hosts' intelligence, charm, and engaging manner make each episode fun and informative. Their encyclopedic movie knowledge allows them to provide insider information while still sounding like your best friends at the bar discussing your favorite films. Whether you're an 80s enthusiast or just love comedy in general, this podcast is definitely worth your time. Don't miss out on this fantastic journey through the epic era in cinema!
