As you read this sentence, Black Rock City is preparing to welcome Burners home for another year of jaw-dropping art and all-night dancing in the desert. That's right, Burning Man 2023 is upon us! To celebrate, we've invited one of the most talented artists on the playa to chat about his annual contribution to the festivities—an artist so gifted that he, like Cher, only needs one name: Alice, mirror artist. On today's podcast episode, host and NOT REAL ART founder Scott “Sourdough” Power sits down with Alice to discuss the artist's dream-inspired mirror sculptures. “I find a lot of inspiration for my own art in [my] dreams,” he says. “When you're patient, quiet, and attentive, then the dream will show you what you need to know.” Based in Orange County, Alice first became interested in art as a child. While his formal education centers on automotive technology and music, Alice has a talent for what he calls “weird art”: large-scale, kaleidoscopic mirror sculptures that transport viewers into the fourth dimension. Right now, Alice is gearing up for Burning Man 2023, where his five-foot tall infinity mirror sculpture, “Tesseract,” will appear for the first time. Constructed from glass, mirror, and LEDs, “Tesseract” is another name for “hypercube,” or a fourth-dimensional cube. “A tesseract is to the cube what the cube is to the square,” says Alice, who hopes the “citizens of Black Rock City […] will immerse themselves deeply in the appreciation of the unknown fourth dimension.”Heavily influenced by dreams, Alice is also a Dreamschool scholar with The School of Metaphysics, where he's studying to become a dream interpreter. In this episode, Alice explains how dreams inspire his sculptures, help him solve creative challenges, and point him in the right direction. We also discuss the value of keeping a dream journal, then get a sneak peek at “Tesseract,” which Burners will be able to see on the playa later this year. “Anything that is possible can happen [at Burning Man and] has happened there,” Alice says. “It's like every holiday wrapped into one, for adults, for a week long.”In Today's Podcast EpisodeAlice discusses…The story behind his name: from Nicholas Baumann to Nicky Alice to AliceHis unique trajectory, from mechanic to band manager to artistLucid dreaming, astral travel, the School of Metaphysics, and dream circlesHow he uses his dreams to follow signs from the universe How to manifest the answer to any challenge using dream incubationHis dream journal and some tips for keeping your ownWhy he believes “being lost” is a part of your successThe inspiration behind “Tesseract,” his installation for Burning Man 2023What Burning Man means to him and how it inspired him to create his own eventWhere to find Alice online (and at Black Rock City this year)For more information, please visit http://notrealart.com/alice-mirror-artist

A lot of us want direct beginnings and endings in friendship. But the reality is, most of us are just riding a wave. We control our friendships less than we think we do, and life's major transitions inevitably affect our relationships – sometimes causing these friendships to drift apart. It's important to remember these relationships – and how they existed during a period in our lives – will always be dear to us. Personally, I wish I could go back to when my friends lived 10 minutes away. But life changes, and dwelling on it doesn't help me figure out the NOW.This episode is Part 2 of my conversation with today's guest, Kristian, who reached out to Friendship IRL after finding us on Apple Podcasts. Kristian is in her 20s, and today, we talk more about the relationship changes that happen during this age. There is no exact answer on how to be a good friend as an adult. Your mid-20s represent a big transitional moment. But hopefully today's discussion helps reframe how to approach these friendships – and takes some pressure off of them, too.In this episode you'll hear about:Musings about why romantic relationships might affect more female friendships than male friendshipsGetting together for “the deep stuff” vs. just getting together and doing things less emotionally intense – and why both are nice things to have in friendshipsHow, with every new life stage, there are new people you're putting more energy into and people you're pivoting away from – which, of course, can hurt sometimesDrifting apart gradually vs. a big “friendship break-up,” and what to ask yourself when determining whether to put more energy into a friendshipFriends who primarily prioritize their partners, and why talking about and prioritizing friendships is counter-cultural in so many circlesHow to use the business term MVP in looking at friendships Resources & LinksLike what you hear? ✘ Tobi Tobermann (Frankfurt) www.mixcloud.com/tobitobermann www.instagram.com/saibototibow www.facebook.com/tobitobermann www.soundcloud.com/tobi-tobermann

Hey, guys hope you’re doing fine so far. This time I have one hour of a two-hour B2B live set which I’ve recorded together with Philip Hay at the Circleshow in Frankfurt (a.M). Every time I can play together with Philip I have the pleasure to play a lot of house tracks and I really enjoyed that. Somehow it’s always a special vibe in our sets when I play together with Philip and this is one of the reasons why he is one of my favorite house and deep house DJs based in Wiesbaden. Even though I’m not playing house music much often, it’s still one of my favorite genres besides techno. Big thanks to Oliver Jost who is hosting the Circleshow in Frankfurt and is giving young people who are interested in electronic music a platform to perform, experiment, and get in touch with electronic music! Please make sure to leave a like for them to let them grow bigger!
