Nesta and Feyre's mental journey into the Hybern camp brings back an unwanted visitor who steals their sister from their camp in the middle of the night. Donning a makeshift disguise as Ianthe, Feyre and Azriel hastily infiltrate Hybern's camp in an effort to rescue Elain from the king's clutches. The Inner Circle travels to the Illyrian war camp to the disdain of Lord Devlon and his fellow Illyrians. With the help of a glamor, Elain returns to her human guise to beseech her former fiance's aid in providing sanctuary for the staff of the Archeron Household. But the ruse fails when Jurian reveals that he's already informed the humans of the true events at Hybern and his intention to defeat the King. The Inner Circle race to gather their forces as they take on Hybern in the first of several battles in the Summer Court. Before the proceedings can even begin the following day, Hybern moves on the wall with the Cauldron, destroying any hope of fortifying it. With Tamlin's surprise entrance comes Feyre's past trauma. Tensions are at a boiling point among the High Lords as their mutual distrust of the wayward High Lord of the Spring Court clouds any desire to form an alliance. Insults are handed out left and right as the group tries to sort through the truth and past misdeeds.
