Episode 2077 - Pierogi Chef Becomes Art Thief in The Culinary Caper

Author and accomplished musician Nick Greenberg welcomes readers into the heart of Cincinnati, where pierogi slinging food truck chef Anton Cherny is about to make a series of bad decisions in the new book The Culinary Caper. When readers meet Anton, he is up to his eyeballs in debt and desperate to find a way out of his dire situation. Enter Ricky, Anton's old art school buddy, who has concocted a daring solution: art thievery. The plan is straightforward. While catering parties for members of the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals teams, who are unknowingly buying priceless works of previously pilfered art, Anton and Ricky swap out the paintings with forgeries, then return the originals to the insurance company for the generous reward money. Easy-peasy, until Anton discovers that his new girlfriend is the daughter of a ruthless Russian mob boss. Adding to his plateful of anxieties are the emotional and financial strains of supporting a son he's never met, fielding threats from a Tolstoy-quoting loan shark, and mounting tension with his food truck partner. Will Chef Anton have to face the reality that his goose is cooked? Or can he employ his culinary expertise to prevail over the multifaceted morass in which he finds himself? The Culinary Caper is part of a highly entertaining three-book series from Greenberg that blends equal measures of food, music, humor, crime and romance with eccentric characters and unlikely escapades. MURDERS IN THE FIRST DEGREEMEET THE AUTHOR Podcast: LIVE - Episode 182Originally aired LIVE Wednesday November 13 ,2024Featuring Authors JAMES CALLAN, KELLY MARSHALL & JINX SCHWARTZ.ABOUT JAMES: James R. Callan took a degree in English intent on writing. But when writing did not support a family, he returned to graduate school in mathematics. After graduate school, he worked at a research center for twelve years before he and his wife started a database company, which they ran for twenty-five years. After a successful career in mathematics and computer science, receiving grants from the National Science Foundation and NASA, and being listed in Who's Who in Computer Science and Two Thousand Notable Americans, (and all four of his kids graduated from college and self-supporting), James R. Callan turned to his first love—writing.ABOUT KELLY: I always thought I would communicate in the world as a writer. As a child I was a voracious reader and knew someday I would pen a great novel. Life sometimes takes left turns though, and I went to broadcasting school instead of a four-year college. I wanted to be the next Barbara Walters and make a million a year. That didn't happen, but I did spend thirty years having fun, spinning records, interviewing people, doing love song dedications. I had a ball until…The U.S. Congress passed The Telecommunications Act of 1996 allowing broadcast corporations to own multiple radio stations in one market. The gobbling began and soon behemoth broadcasting corporations ate up radio stations like locusts in a wheat field. And radio announcers like me were axed on bloody Fridays with surgical precision. I was working for a small radio station for chump change. Something had to give. I left radio, went to work for the US Federal Government, and in my private hours, began doing what I really loved. Writing.ABOUT JINX: USA TODAY BEST-SELLING AUTHOR, Jinx Schwartz is a ninth-generation Texan who lived and worked all over the planet before dropping from the corporate world to write and cruise. Living aboard a boat for many years in Mexico's Sea of Cortez inspired her Award-winning Hetta Coffey Series.Links to watch or listen to all episodes at:https://indiebooksource.com/podcast

But don't worry — he soon realized his mistake and started writing film scripts. He went on to create short films like Elle, Blind Justice, and Siguiente Nivel, which won multiple awards and were screened at international festivals. He also wrote others that won no awards and were utterly embarrassing. These things happen. He turned to prose in 2017 and published numerous short stories in prominent blogs such as The Creative Cafe, The Junction, and Data Driven Investor. In 2022, his first Spanish novel, Segunda Juventud, came out. You should totally read it if you speak Spanish. If you don't, well, you might still like the cover art.Broken Horizons is Juan's second book. He's currently working on a novel in which a controlling software engineer tries to restore order after everyone in the world swaps bodies with someone else. He's also working on an Argentine tango novel in which everyone swaps partners all the time, but that's a bit less dramatic.Juan currently works as a technical writer. He's very much in touch with AI and data science, from which he gathers inspiration for his next stories.Links to watch or listen to all episodes at: https://indiebooksource.com/podcast

MEET THE AUTHOR Podcast: LIVE - Episode 176Originally aired Wednesday October 2,2024 Featuring Author JOSEPH CARRABIS ABOUT JOSEPH: Joseph Carrabis is the author of over a dozen novels and hundreds of short stories, including the Nebula-recommended Cymodoce and the Pushcart nominated The Weight. Raised by his maternal grandfather John, Joseph developed a thirst for knowledge that would motivate him to seek immersion within indigenous societies all over the world. These experiences compelled Joseph to help others and have inspired his writing. In addition to writing fiction, Joseph is the author of internationally best-selling non-fiction. Prior to becoming a full-time author, Joseph sat on several advisory boards including the Center for Multicultural Science and the Journal of Cultural Marketing Strategy. He was a Senior Research Fellow at the Society for New Communications Research, an Annenberg Fellow at the University of Southern California, and served with the UN/NYAS Scientists Without Borders program. Joseph was born in Melrose, MA, and currently lives in Nashua, New Hampshire with his wife, Susan, and their four-legged child, Boo. Blah blah blah... Personally, I think I'm rather boring and dull. I figured that wouldn't make good copy so I asked a bunch of friends how they'd describe me. Everybody said I was "intriguing". That's a nice double-edged word, don't you think? Kind of like something you want to stare at from a distance or with a good, solid, thick piece of steel reinforced glass between you and whatever you're looking at. Me, if I think something's intriguing, I want to know more about it but I don't want to get too close while getting to know more about it. Know what I mean?...Links to watch or listen to all episodes at: https://indiebooksource.com/podcast

The Booklover's Library (Hanover Square Press, 2024) has one of the most dramatic openings I've ever read, and I've read a lot of novels. It's 1931 in Nottingham, England, and seventeen-year-old Emma, ensconced in her father's bookshop, is engrossed in her favorite novel, Jane Austen's Emma, when she realizes the building around her has caught fire. With her father's help, she stumbles into the street, only to watch him collapse and die as the bookstore implodes. In just a few pages, Emma has lost her sole family member, her home, and her source of income. By the time we meet her again, eight years later, she has married, too young and unhappily, lost her husband to a car crash, and struggles to support herself and their seven-year-old daughter, Olivia, on her widow's pension. In 1930s Britain, companies were legally barred from hiring married women or widows with children, so although Emma has barely passed twenty-five and would gladly work, she can't apply for a job because of the marriage ban. But nor can she pay the rent, no matter how hard she squeezes every shilling. When a chance encounter leads to an opportunity for work at a lending library, Emma takes the plunge and identifies herself as Miss Taylor. Fortunately for her, the person hiring is also a woman, so even when the truth comes out during that first interview, the manager agrees to cover for her. End of story, one might think, but readers who've done the math will already have realized that Emma's problems have just begun. Three weeks after she starts her training, Hitler invades Poland, and Britain declares war. Nottingham, although not London, has enough factories to make it a likely target, and the city puts pressure on all parents to evacuate their children to the countryside. It's Emma's struggles to balance her own need to earn money to support her daughter while ensuring the survival of both her child and herself that make this novel memorable. Madeline Martin is the New York Times and internationally bestselling author of historical fiction and historical romance. The Booklover's Library is her latest novel. C. P. Lesley is the author of two historical fiction series set during the childhood of Ivan the Terrible and four other novels. Her next book, Song of the Steadfast, is due early in 2025.
