Bobby Couch had a big job at Clemson when he was a major fundraiser for IPTAY. But that's not what Dan Radakovich was angry about when he called Couch to his office one day a decade or so ago. Radakovich wanted to talk to Couch about his other, more unofficial job: Commissioner of the Noon Time Basketball Association. The NTBA, played on weekdays, was largely athletics department staffers and personnel from the football and basketball teams. But one day an outsider showed up wearing Gamecock gear, and Dabo Swinney gave him some grief over it. The guy didn't take kindly to it, and the confrontation got nasty and was about to get physical. The spat was resolved, but it got the attention of Radakovich and the ritual NTBA games were put on a lengthy hiatus while Couch could trim the roster of invitees. "Here I am getting called to the principal's office not as a senior associate director of IPTAY, but for my role as NTBA commissioner," Couch said. "He's basically telling me I've got to shut this thing down. "Of course the first person who called me after we shut it down and asked me what the heck was going on was Coach Swinney, because he wanted to get back out on the court. I'm like: 'Hey dude. We had to shut this thing down because of you.'" Couch also remembers Brent Venables showing up to a noontime game wearing a mouthpiece. The ferocious Venables ended up accidentally jabbing Couch in face and giving him a huge black eye. Two days later, Couch had to speak to a large donor group the day the Tigers were facing Georgia in Athens. Those are just two of many memories that come flooding back about the NTBA days with Clemson (and NTBA) alum Will Wade about to face Clemson in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. We also interview Chad Lampman, a Clemson alum who preceded Couch as NTBA commissioner before he left for a position at Duke where he's been for 15 years. And UNC Asheville basketball coach Michael Morrell joins the podcast to share his most vivid memories of the NTBA. To Morrell, those games encapsulated the rare bond at Clemson shared among the staffs regardless of sport. "There's just something different about that place, man," said Morrell, who was on Oliver Purnell's staff. "There's just something different there that's special. "I always thought it was cool how the football and basketball staffs there found ways to have relationships. I was on the basketball staff at Texas for three years, and no offense to Texas but I didn't even know the football coaches there. Didn't even know them. "But at Clemson you knew everybody, man. And it still seems like it's the same for them there now. Gosh, man. What a cool place to be a player, a coach, a writer or whatever. Because it's not that way everywhere."

Jack Leggett will be back in Doug Kingsmore Stadium tonight, back facing bitter rival South Carolina in a three-game weekend series. Leggett is asked what he'd say to Gamecocks athletics director Ray Tanner and South Carolina assistant Monte Lee if their paths cross this weekend. "Probably not going to be a lot of conversation," he said. Leggett says he has nothing against Lee, who replaced him as head coach in 2015, or Tanner. Yet he said he had a good relationship with Tanner for years until Dan Radakovich consulted with Tanner when evaluating whether to retain or fire Leggett. Leggett said he received hundreds of text messages from people in the coaching and athletics industry after his firing from Clemson, but he didn't receive any correspondence from Tanner and still hasn't heard from him. Leggett goes into detail on his return to Clemson as the Director of Program Development under first-year coach Erik Bakich, a part-time role. NCAA compliance prevents him from coaching, and he admits that makes him uncomfortable because coaching is in his blood and is what he wants to do. He says he's not sure whether this stint will last beyond this season, but he says he's thoroughly enjoying being back in the dugout and within the program he guided for so long, and to so much success.
In hour one, we react to the Kyrie Irving deal and what it means for the Heat. Then, Hoch and Crowder are joined by Hurricanes Athletic Director Dan Radakovich live from the Watsco Center ahead of tonight's Canes Hoops showdown with Duke.

The Miami Hurricanes have lost defensive coordinator Kevin Steele to Alabama. He takes the same position under Nick Saban, who he has worked for in the past. Miami now has openings at both offensive and defensive coordinator with less than a month until the start of spring football. Will the Hurricanes promote linebacker coach Charlie Strong into the DC role or would they go outside the program to try and land someone like Charlie Partridge (Pitt DL/ assistant HC) or Jim Leonhard (former WISC DC)?Host Alex Donno discusses the DC opening and makes the case for promoting Strong while hopefully elevating either DeMarcus Van Dyke or Jason Taylor from analyst to on-field. Alex mentions that there is smoke that Saban also wants to hire Strong, so Miami might lose him if they don't promote him. Donno gives the latest on the offensive coordinator search, where he hears Toledo head coach Jason Candle has interviewed not only with Mario Cristobal but with athletic director Dan Radakovich. Candle might also be pursued by Notre Dame for their OC position. Alex reacts to the criticism of Miami's NIL by Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim. Boeheim accused Miami of “buying” their basketball team. Donno points out Boeheim having been punished in the recent past for “failing to promote an atmosphere of compliance.”Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The Miami Hurricanes will beat the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday, October 22nd, 2022 IF they follow these keys to the game. The Hurricanes will need to keep mobile Duke quarterback Riley Leonard contained. Don't allow him to pick up extra yards, first down, and touchdowns with his legs. Miami needs to score touchdowns in the red zone. Miami has one of the worst red zone touchdown percentages while Duke is 39th in the country in points allowed. Host Alex Donno shares other keys to victory like running the football. Miami hasn't had balance in their offense and they need to see more from tailbacks Jaylan Knighton and Henry Parrish. Does Miami need to give more carries to Thad Franklin and Lucious Stanley? Miami's defensive secondary needs to communicate well and avoid giving up big plays. Duke has one of the better big-play offenses in the ACC. And Miami needs to keep the penalties to a minimum. They were flagged 17 times for a whopping 159 yards against Virginia Tech last week. Donno shares the latest updates on the projected new football facilities from Miami athletic director Dan Radakovich. How close are the Canes at breaking ground on a new $100 football facility?
