The Real Ones Canes Podcast is hosted by experienced journalists and media members, Brandon Odoi and Brian "The Beast" London. Brandon and The Beast have close to 40 years combined of Canes coverage. On this episode of the Real Ones Canes Podcast, Cam and The Beast react to Georgia fans losing their minds because Miami beat them out for OL Jackson Cantwell. They seem to believe that Miami is up to nefarious things with NIL money, when, in reality, Jackson just liked The U better, and that seems to be something UGA fans can't comprehend. Mario Cristobal commented on last year's defensive debacle, and what he said was no surprise to those of us who watched the Canes' 2024 defense. It wasn't good! In Segment Two, we express our extreme depression over UM Baseball's performance over the last few weeks of the season and in one game of the ACC Tournament. Sure, Miami will probably make the field of 64, but it's truly time to get some new blood at the helm of the second-most well-known program in the Gables. The CFP Committee has decided that the top four teams should get the top four seeds and a bye, no matter what conference they are from, or if they are Notre Dame. Cam has thoughts. On this episode of The Real Ones Canes Podcast, Cam and The Beast take you into Cam's mother's kitchen as she crafts some amazing French toast that lures Cam out of bed. This, of course, is a way for us to talk about the new defense. Huh? We discuss the battle brewing between Ray Ray Joseph and Malachi Toney. We give you insight on what might have been holding Ray Ray back and what makes Malachi more ready than most freshmen. Also, a veteran wideout is starting to lead, both by example and vocally. Everyone we have talked to can't stop raving about Xavier Lucas. This defense certainly needs him to step up in the defensive backfield. Speaking of the defense, Corey Hetherman has brought a simpler defense to The U. It allows the players to react more quickly and make plays. Is this a good thing? Cam explains. We get to recruiting. It's all about the O Line and RBs. We give you the latest. Go read all of Cam's great work at StateofTheU!

Spring Practice continues, and we take a look at the running back position. Mark Fletcher is going through his first full offseason, and we can't wait to see what he looks like in the fall. The first week of the Miami Hurricanes' Spring Practice is in the books, and Cam and The Beast break it all down. First, we start with two HUGE recruiting wins the Canes got this week. Jaelan Waters, a DB out of Seffner Armwood, and Ben Congdon, a massive OL out of Ohio, verbally committed this week. The 2026 class is strong so far. Then it's on to the first week of Spring Practice. We told you before Spring, and we are telling you now, we have heard nothing but strong things about freshman WR Malachi Toney, aka Baby Jesus. Toney was ahead of Ray Ray Joseph in the starting group on Friday. Will Ray Ray have what it takes to fend off Toney and return to the starting group? We shall see. The offense is looking good, even with out CB out there slinging it. The defense is a bit of a work in progress as new DC Corey Hetherman gets to know the players and his staff. But, there is a positive vibe as guys are reportedly enjoying the simpler system and the ability to play multiple positions. The hiring of Jai Lucas as the Canes' head basketball coach is done, and he will be introduced this week. We'll have more on Lucas and his staff coming up next week. Finally, The Beast was off-put by something the Canes Football social media team did involving Jon Gruden ( for a reminder on why Jon Gruden is no longer coaching...read here https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/08/sports/football/nfl-demaurice-smith-jon-gruden-racist-comment.html ) As always, go read Cam's great work at The State of The U

The wideout room, and staff, lost a great one in David "Pop" Cooney, who is off to coach the wideouts at Bowling Green. He had a huge impact on the program. We update everyone on DB coach Will Harris. His status may be up in the air, but as of now, he's working in the building on San Amaro Drive. We tell you why he left Florida, as word is getting out about conditions behind closed doors in Gainesville. The dead period is ending and visits are lined up, we update you on a few biggies!
