A home field upset of Arizona State has Mississippi State proving progress in year-two with Jeff Lebby. The Bulldogs beat the Sun Devils with a game-saving goal line stand and game-winning touchdown throw in the final minute. The post-win celebration will cost the athletic department a cool half-million dollars per the SEC fine for field storming, but emotionally it is worth it after years of struggles. Now on to Alcorn State as for the first time Lebby has to bring a team down from a big win and build them up in a new week.
Oklahoma made a statement at home beating Michigan easily 24-13, while Florida stumbled in a shocking upset to USF, but the SEC wasn't done just yet as Mississippi State upset Arizona State for a signature win for Jeff Lebby. We dive deep into the SEC's upper crust with our first of two comprehensive preview episodes, breaking down eight of the conference's most talented and high-expectation teams. From Texas's national championship aspirations and the beginning of the Arch Manning era to Alabama's loaded roster under Kalen DeBoer and a revamped offense for Georgia under Kirby Smart, we explore the teams most likely to compete for SEC titles and playoff spots. In this college football podcast episode, we analyze Texas as the preseason No. 1 team and whether Arch Manning can navigate one of the toughest road schedules in the country, including trips to Ohio State, Florida, and Georgia. We examine Alabama's quarterback battle between Ty Simpson, Austin Mack, and Keelon Russell, plus the reunion of Kalen DeBoer with longtime coordinator Ryan Grubb. We discuss Georgia's search for offensive star power with Gunner Stockton at the helm and their favorable SEC schedule. We also break down Ole Miss's "nothing to lose" mentality with Austin Simmons taking over for Jaxson Dart, LSU's all-in approach with Garrett Nussmeier and their loaded but unproven receiver room, and Dan's Big Ten-to-SEC quarterback theory with Beau Pribula at Missouri. Plus, we examine Kentucky's massive roster overhaul under Mark Stoops with 40+ new players and Mississippi State's uphill climb in Jeff Lebby's second season after going 0-8 in SEC play. This is your guide to the SEC's championship contenders and the key questions that will determine their 2025 fates, with eight more teams coming in our next episode! The return of Ace Reese is a 'recruiting' win for Brian O'Connor as Bulldog baseball awaits the upcoming MLB Draft. And SEC Media Days is just a week away for Jeff Lebby and three select Mississippi State players.
We continue our march through the Texas Longhorns' season with the Longhorns' first trip to Starkville as a member of the SEC. A year ago, the Mississippi State Bulldogs managed to move the ball on Texas, but the Longhorns managed to do enough to get the job done. In the offseason, MSU added more than 50 players through the portal, allowing second-year coach Jeff Lebby to reload and try to improve on their last-place finish in the conference.
Direct payments to NCAA student-athletes can begin Tuesday, the same date the baseball transfer portal closes. Brian O'Connor has 13 transfers lined up already and awaits word from a couple more. Ace Reese is subject of Mississippi State consternation ahead of portal deadline. Jeff Lebby has 23 commitments for his 2026 signing class but there will be many an addition and subtraction between now and December.
