Oracle (ORCL) reports earnings after the bell, but can it buck the trend of a down tech sector? Danielle Shay @traderdanielle is Vice President of Options at Simpler Trading, as well as chief commentator on the trader education website www.fivestartrader.com. In this MoneyShow MoneyMasters Podcast episode, she joins me for a deep dive discussion on options trading tactics and stock market trends.Danielle first covers the loss of momentum in sectors like technology and financials over the last few weeks. She notes how high expectations were heading into Q1 earnings...but how company executives like JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon have shared more muted outlooks on their operations. In tech, she says: “We knew the crazy train wasn't going to go on forever” in stocks like Super Micro Computer Inc. (SMCI) and Nvidia Corp. (NVDA). But as long as one key sector – and an ETF that tracks it – holds up, she thinks there's still a shot we go higher over the longer term. We also discuss energy, gold, and profit opportunities in commodity stocks. The rest of the conversation focuses on Danielle's specialty: Options trading tactics and techniques. She explains how and why she focuses on pattern recognition in general and “the squeeze” in particular. She covers how to profit from sentiment extremes, using a recent series of real-life Tesla Inc. (TSLA) trades as examples. Plus, she discusses options spread trading – and why options butterflies are particularly useful to her. Finally, Danielle shares a sneak peek of what she'll teach attendees at the MoneyShow Masters Symposium Las Vegas, set for Aug. 1-3, 2024 at the Paris Las Vegas. We'll ask the experts. Plus, are high prices and low inventory going to slow the red-hot housing market to a halt? We'll ask the CEO of Realogy. And – one trader, four stocks. Danielle Shay of Simpler Trading joins us for another edition of “3 Buys & A Bail.”
Mona Mahajan, US investment strategist for Allianz Global Investors, says that the stock market won't stabilize until there is a visible path for a 'global return to normalcy,' but adds that she doesn't think the 'long-term fundamental health of the US economy is derailed' by the worldwide reaction to the coronavirus. As such, she will be looking for values and better risk-reward opportunities for when the worst of the troubles are past. Also on the show, Danielle Shay of SimplerTrading.com talks about the market's technicals, the hard time finding support and the growing number of investors who want to trade, Kathy Kristof of SideHusl.com discusses opportunities till out there for individuals who are looking for work while remaining physically distant, and Nancy Tengler of Laffer Tengler Wealth Management makes her debut in the Market Call talking dividend-oriented stocks.
Andrew Slimmon, senior portfolio manager at Morgan Stanley Investment Management, says that while he is optimistic for the new year, he is worried about how much the economy may accelerate, noting that if it picks up speed in the second half of 2020 it will create stress come 2021. It's an environment that he says is good for politics -- which is why he's worried about it during a presidential election year -- but not great for long-term investors who will feel the aftermath. Also on the show, David Kotok of Cumberland Advisors says investors should expect single-digit returns in 2020 with performance charts that don't look anything like what they have seen in 2019. Danielle Shay of SimplerTrading covers the market's technical side between those two Big Interviews and we revisit a recent ETF of the Week chat with Tom Lydon of ETFTrends.com.
In podcast episode 124, Danielle Shay Gibbons (Dine) and I talk about two of her small businesses. Danielle owns and operates a beading business (Shining Star) and a Wellness & Fitness Studio (Asdzą́ą́ Bá Hózhónii Wellness) in Farmington, NM. She also talks about a tuxedo she beaded for Wes Studi that he wore to the Oscars. Follow Danielle on Facebook.
Frank Holmes, chief executive at U.S. Global Investors, said he sees the market currently in a good place, helped by the changing tide of interest rates, but he noted that investors should be looking to diversify into gold and fixed-income to take advantage of that shift as it occurs during a time of slowing economic growth that will make for tougher sledding for stocks. Also, Danielle Shay of SimplerTrading.com said that the resolution of trade issues with Mexico was a strong short-term win for the market, which she now expects to settle into a range until the next earnings season in July, which could prove to be a catalyst for a move higher. Cather Golladay of Schwab Retirement Plan Services discusses the magic number that Americans think they need to amass for a secure retirement, and we rebroadcast a recent Market Call interview with Mike Larson of Weiss Ratings and Weiss' Safe Money Report.
Danielle Shay, director of options at SimplerTrading.com, said the market is in 'Hurry up and wait mode' over next week's release of earnings for the FANG stocks plus Microsoft, noting that she expects the flat market to break out once those big names release their numbers. That breakout could lead to new highs, but Shay said she expects the market to settle and re-test lows before really moving on later in the year. Also on the show, Michael Campagna of Moerus Capital Management talks value investing around the world in current market conditions, Rob Scheinerman of AIG Retirement Services covers new data on consumers planning to live and make their finances last to age 100, and Peter Tuz of Chase Investment Counsel talks growth stocks in the Market Call.

On today’s podcast I do my best to recount and explain as much as I could from an interview I conducted with Danielle Shay who is the director of Options at Simpler Trading. Somewhere in the Skype clouds the audio was lost. There’s no way I could do justice to Danielle’s knowledge and expertise that she was kind enough to share with the podcast audience. Hopefully we can have her on the show again soon. Thank you so much for tuning into the How To Trade Stocks And Options Podcast by 10minutestocktrader.com.
