What if the real problem in this industry is how many brokerages exist? In this episode, James and Keith sit down with Jesse Garcia, founder of Maverick Real Estate, to talk about what most people won't say out loud. After building a financial operating system used by brokerages, Jesse got a behind-the-scenes look at how many actually operate and why some probably shouldn't. They break down what agents really need, why alignment matters more than splits, and how most recruiting models miss the mark entirely. Chuck Todd unpacks the fallout from Trump's State of the Union address and previews what's shaping up to be a pivotal primary season. He argues that the speech wasn't designed to be coherent — it was engineered for social media moments and base solidification, with Trump drafting off the popularity of others like the Olympic hockey team rather than making a case to swing voters, and echoing Biden's mistake of trying to sell a country that doesn't feel it on the economy. He breaks down the JD Vance "fraud czar" announcement and the immediate move to suspend Medicaid funding to Minnesota as classic base-juicing, then pivots to a sharp analysis of the Iran standoff: Trump's base won't tolerate a prolonged war but might accept limited strikes, Iran knows this and could rope-a-dope the administration, and you can't air strike your way to regime change. He argues that Cuba on the brink of societal collapse with Cuban Americans eager to help rebuild — represents a far easier foreign policy win that Trump is inexplicably ignoring. He then turns to the Texas primaries, where Cornyn has trailed Paxton in every poll and likely can't win without a Trump endorsement, while the Crockett-Talarico Democratic race is showing Clinton-Sanders demographic splits with Crockett leading among groups more likely to actually vote. He notes that many of Chuck Schumer's recruited candidates nationally are already losing, and that the establishment is deeply unpopular this cycle — with a new poll showing insurgent Graham Platner crushing Janet Mills by 40 points as further proof that 2026 is shaping up as an anti-establishment wave. Katherine Mangu-Ward — editor-in-chief of Reason magazine and author of the viral New York Times op-ed "Libertarians: We Told You So" — joins the Chuck Toddcast for a sharp, wide-ranging conversation about what the libertarian moment looks like when executive power has run amok. She opens with a disarming observation: Americans tend to discover their inner libertarian whenever they dislike the president — and notes that a version of her op-ed could have been written under Biden too. But the Trump era, she argues, has vindicated libertarian warnings in ways that should alarm everyone: warrantless ICE entries that have silenced the very conservatives who once championed the Fourth Amendment, tech CEO congressional hearings that were really about locking in corporate access to state power, and a cronyism so brazen it has paradoxically made citizens hate corporations more than the government enabling them. The conversation takes a fascinating turn into policy territory rarely explored on political podcasts. Mangu-Ward engages seriously with the question of whether there's a libertarian case for nationalized healthcare. They also tackle Trump turning Democrats into free-trade activists, the risks of economic nationalism, why demands for safety net cuts fall far short of solving the budget problem, and the fine line between prediction markets and sportsbooks. Looking ahead to 2026, Mangu-Ward points to Arizona — a state that has always produced what she calls "mutant strains" of libertarianism — as the place to watch for whether libertarian-leaning candidates can finally break through at the ballot box. Finally, he answers listeners’ questions in the “Ask Chuck” segment and explains his beef with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Alejandro Oropeza's journey from Mexico City's family kitchens to founding Flavors demonstrates how deep domain expertise combined with technological innovation creates transformative opportunities. His unique position allowed him to identify a critical gap: food content viewers experience genuine hunger and desire immediate action. Rather than remaining passive consumers, audiences wanted to bridge inspiration and consumption. Alejandro's resilience defines his entrepreneurial identity as profoundly as his vision. Pitching nearly 100 venture firms before securing funding, facing systemic barriers as a Latino founder in an industry where only 2% of capital flows to founders like him, he maintained conviction through what most would consider irrational persistence. His decade-long meditation practice and emphasis on surrounding himself with authentic relationships demonstrate that Alejandro understands entrepreneurial success requires equal investment in psychological resilience and relational support alongside strategic acumen. By enabling chefs to share their stories through video and making their cuisine nationally accessible, Alejandro Oropeza facilitates cultural exchange that honors immigrant voices and expands culinary representation. His entrepreneurial model—grounded in authentic passion, practitioner respect, and bidirectional value creation—offers an alternative to extractive technology business. Sean survived the 2002 Bali Bombings and a car crash that shattered his pelvis—but nothing prepared him for the war inside his own home. A high-powered Tech CEO by day, Sean was living a nightmare by night with a wife who averaged 55 drinks a week and terrified their children. When his 16-year-old daughter whispered, "Mom is drunk-driving, she nearly killed me," Sean knew he had to act. He treated his divorce like a military operation: reading The Art of War, secretly moving documents to a storage unit, and spending $12,000 on a "fake" final holiday just to keep the peace before the extraction. The Aftermath: It wasn't just a breakup. It was a scorched-earth legal battle involving false allegations of sexual abuse that destroyed his reputation across two major cities.JOIN US ON DISCORD! In this urgent and unsettling episode of the Chuck ToddCast, Chuck argues that America is in the midst of a historic “Great Unraveling,” marked by the collapse of trust, consent, and the basic social contract that has held the country together for generations. He examines a chilling series of events in Minneapolis—two fatal shootings by federal agents in three weeks, including the killing of Alex Pretti, who was legally carrying a firearm—raising profound questions about accountability, constitutional rights, and whether the federal government can still be trusted to tell the truth when video evidence directly contradicts official accounts. As administration officials stumble through indefensible explanations, Chuck connects the domestic breakdown to a broader global rupture: allies like Canada openly describing relations with the U.S. as “ruptured,” the post–World War II rules-based order splintering, science and public health consensus eroding, and political power being wielded through favoritism and fear. The episode paints a stark picture of a country growing weaker, more isolated, and more vulnerable—not because of fate, but because unraveling is a process, and it’s happening in real time. Then, documentary filmmaker Adam Bhala Lough joins the Chuck ToddCast for a provocative, darkly funny, and unsettling conversation about AI, power, and the people building the future faster than anyone can regulate it. Lough unpacks the thinking behind his documentary Deepfaking Sam Altman, exploring why artificial intelligence inspires both awe and terror, how tech elites quietly prepare for social backlash, and why many of the skills we once told young people to master—like coding—may soon be obsolete. From Silicon Valley’s obsession with immortality and bunker-building to the fear that any job done on a computer could disappear within a few years, the discussion confronts what happens when innovation outruns accountability. The episode also dives deep into Sam Altman’s mystique, Silicon Valley’s moral blind spots, and how fear—of China, regulation, or losing dominance—is used to shape public debate around AI. Lough explains how deepfakes are made, why AI-driven scams are about to explode, and what lawmakers fundamentally misunderstand about regulating rapidly evolving technology. Ultimately, this conversation argues that the antidote to AI anxiety isn’t panic or denial—but transparency, literacy, and a serious public reckoning with who controls the tools reshaping human society. Finally, Chuck weighs in on the political disaster that is unfolding for Republicans, hops into the ToddCast Time Machine to draw parallels between modern America and Bloody Sunday in Northern Ireland in the 70’s and answers listeners’ question in the “Ask Chuck” segment. It's another Best of 2025 episode on the Majority Report. On Today's program: Original air date: February 11, 2025 Gil Duran, journalist based in California, proprietor of the website The Nerd Reich, co-writer of the FrameLab newsletter, joins to discuss his recent piece in The Nerd Reich entitled "'Reboot' Revealed: Elon Musk's CEO-Dictator Playbook." https://x.com/gilduran76 https://www.thenerdreich.com/ https://www.theframelab.org/ https://www.thenerdreich.com/reboot-e... Gil Duran then joins, diving right into the concept of the Network State – an idea advanced by Big Tech's thought leader Curtis Yarvin and his billionaire buddies (Thiel, Andreessen, Musk, etc) that Tech CEOs should take advantage of the collapse of Nation States and democracy in favor of establishing corporate, CEO-run dictatorship, either by gutting and replacing existing governments or purchasing sovereign territories – as Duran unpacks his first introduction to this ideology with Silicon Valley's attempt to hijack San Francisco's political institutions, before parsing a little deeper through the recent, much more public discussions of this theory advanced by the likes of Peter Thiel, Marc Andreessen, and Curtis Yarvin. After expanding on how we are already seeing the blueprint for a Network State in action, with Trump serving as a figurehead to a Tech CEO's gutting of our administrative and democratic institutions in favor of sycophants and centralized power, Duran looks to how this came to be the active ideology of the GOP so quickly, unpacking how the collapse of the Biden campaign and naming of JD Vance as Trump's VP opened up an opportunity for the Big Tech to step in, starting with Elon's massive public $300m investment and culminating in Yarvin's Reboot conference in San Francisco last September, exploring the obvious parallels between Big Tech's dictator obsession and the GOP's white nationalism and parsing through their unified scapegoating of "woke" and "DEI" in the leadup to the election to the point of completely dominating both mainstream and social media (bolstered by the financial leverage and ownership Big Tech has over those institutions). Next, Gil, Sam, and Emma unpack the major challenges facing the Trump-Musk regime, as Trump is on his last legs with no other favorable alternative in sight while any failure to maintain control over both political and media institutions potentially meaning a complete upending of their "progress," not to mention the obvious lack of preparedness (or ability) for this institution to deal with any real public or institutional opposition – the latter of which seems to be particularly hopeless among Democratic leadership – wrapping up by emphasizing the genuine insecurity this regime faces in the face of public scrutiny and touching on the potential danger of Big Tech's goal of replacing the US Dollar with Bitcoin. Consumers are being warned of a price hike for technology like phones and computers due to the rise of AI creating a shortage of computer chips. The cost for parts like RAMs have also sky rocketed with some products already costing double, or triple, what they did a year ago. "There's only so much production capability on the planet, and what we're seeing is where these chips are fabricated, they are diverting their production away from the RAM that's used in our consumer devices to the high bandwidth memory that is being used in the AI data centres," Gorilla Tech CEO Paul Spain told Andrew Dickens. Chris Spencer is a tech entrepreneur and founder of TeamQ, who today is using his decade playing in the NFL as a foundation for helping athletes across the country maximize their potential on the field and in life. In this episode, Spencer and Anne Hancock Toomey discuss his background growing up in Bentonia, Mississippi, transitioning from farm life to football. He wasn't just a football player, though. He digs into the lessons he learned and the needs he observed while playing that led him to his post-NFL career founding TeamQ, a performance intelligence platform aimed at empowering athletes beyond the game. Our guest in this episode is Jennifer K. Hill, an exited founder and tech CEO who is now cracking the code of human connection through her company, OptiMatch. Her mission was born from what she calls "survival," a personal journey to understand herself after realising she was the "common denominator" in her own relational breakdowns. In our wonderful chat, Jennifer shares her master blueprint for building high-trust relationships, the "Golden Triangle of Connection," and provides an arsenal of practical tools for emotional resilience. Key points discussed include:* True connection begins with yourself; you're the common denominator in all of your relationships.* Understand others' core motivations to speak a language they can hear, preventing communication breakdowns.* Use practical tools to regulate your nervous system, allowing your adult self to lead, not your inner child.Listen to the podcast to find out more.Innovabiz Substack is a reader-supported publication. Hill to the InnovaBuzz podcast, an exited founder and tech CEO who is now on a mission to crack the code of human connection. Her journey is a fascinating one, not born from a lofty academic theory, but forged in the fires of personal experience. As Jennifer so candidly shared, her deep dive into the mechanics of trust and relationships began as an act of pure "survival."What unfolded was a powerful conversation about her master blueprint for connection, a framework she calls the Golden Triangle. It's a roadmap that starts in the one place many of us are afraid to look: ourselves. Jennifer's story is a profound reminder that before we can build bridges to others or to a greater purpose, we must first learn to navigate our own inner landscape with courage and compassion. The Common Denominator: Your First and Most Important RelationshipOne of the most powerful moments in our chat was when Jennifer described her ultimate "light bulb" moment. After years of broken relationships and communication breakdowns in every area of her life, she finally asked the hard question and came to a stunningly simple conclusion: "The common denominator? Me." That single realisation sparked a two-decade journey inward and became the bedrock of her work. This is the first corner of her Golden Triangle: a deep, unwavering connection to self. Jennifer argues that without this foundation, we will always feel a void, leaving us to seek validation and energy from others. True intimacy with our partners, our teams, and our purpose can only be built once we've done the deep work of understanding our own motivations, triggers, and blind spots. Are You a Leche or an Apple? Speaking a Language Others Can HearOnce we begin to understand ourselves, we can start to truly understand others. Jennifer has translated her intuitive gift for reading people into a remarkable technology called OptiMatch, which identifies our primary motivators using memorable fruit archetypes. Are you a "Leche," driven by achievement and needing information in three quick bullet points? Or are you an "Apple," who thrives on data and needs to see all fifty points of research? These differences aren't a matter of someone being difficult or "misbehaving;" it's simply about learning to "speak each other's language." Jennifer shared a brilliant example of two co-founders who were struggling until they realised this. By learning to speak into the other person's listening, they transformed their dynamic from one of friction to one of flow, a lesson that applies to every boardroom and every family dinner table. The Unseen Saboteur: Why You Need to Master "Transition Time"Sometimes the biggest breakdowns come from the smallest misunderstandings. Jennifer shared a deeply personal story about "transition time," a concept she learned from her mentor, Alison Armstrong. She described how her ex-husband would come home from work and need a period to decompress, a need she, in her excitement to connect, would completely miss. His silence felt like a rejection, leading her to become "passive aggressive" and withhold affection. This dynamic is a silent saboteur in countless relationships. Recognising that some people, regardless of gender, need time to transition between tasks or environments is a simple but revolutionary act of empathy. It's about giving grace and understanding that someone's need for a quiet moment isn't a personal slight, but a fundamental aspect of how they're wired.Don't Burn the House Down: Practical Tools for Taming Your AmygdalaWhen we feel slighted or triggered, our primitive brain, the amygdala, takes over. As Jennifer so vividly put it, in those moments of anger, she was ready to "dissolve the company, light the thing on fire and burn everything to the ground." To avoid this, we need practical tools to regulate our nervous system and get our rational brain back online, allowing us to be responsive instead of reactive.Jennifer has an arsenal of over 180 of these tools, and she shared a few of her favourites, from HeartMath's heart-focused breathing to the simple yet profound questions of the Sedona Method. These aren't complex, time-consuming practices; they are in-the-moment techniques you can use with your eyes open during a tense meeting to quiet the alarm bells in your brain and choose a more constructive path. The Inner Child Running the BoardroomSo why do we get triggered in the first place? Jennifer offered a stunningly clear explanation: most of the time, our conflicts are not being waged by our adult selves. Instead, "we are a 4-year-old and a 3-year-old being like, you can't make me, you suck!" It's our unhealed inner children, desperate for love and acceptance, who are running the show and causing the chaos. The antidote is what she calls "Inner Child Work." This is the secret sauce: learning to talk to that little one within you, giving yourself the love, safety, and acceptance you've been trying to get from everyone else. When you can do that, you stop taking that neediness into your relationships, and your competent, 44-year-old self can finally run the meeting.Humanizing Our Future: A Pragmatic Optimist's Take on AIOur conversation fittingly concluded by looking at the future of connection in the age of technology. As a "pragmatic optimist," Jennifer sees a powerful opportunity to "humanize AI" by always putting the "human first, tech second." She believes that far from replacing us, AI can be an incredible ally on our journey of self-discovery.Imagine having a companion you can talk to without any fear of judgment, a tool that can help you understand your own patterns and reflect on your feelings in a completely safe space. When we approach it with intention, technology doesn't have to be a force for disconnection; it can become one of the most powerful tools we have for building a deeper relationship with ourselves. In Summary: Jennifer K. Hill provides a masterclass in building a more connected life, starting from the inside out. Her message is clear: when we have the courage to see ourselves as the common denominator, learn to speak the language of others, and do the work to heal our inner child, we can transform every relationship we have—with ourselves, each other, and our purpose in the world. The Buzz - Our Innovation RoundHere are Jennifer's answers to the questions of our innovation round. In this powerful episode of the Faith Driven Entrepreneur podcast, hosts Justin Forman and Kevin Kim sit down with Chi-Ming and Juliette Chien to explore their radical decision to relocate their successful tech company from San Francisco's financial district to Bayview - a neighborhood where 25-30% of children live below the federal poverty line.Chi-Ming shares how Dayspring Technologies embodies "bearing witness to God's redeeming of the workplace, marketplace, and community" through unconventional business practices like refusing to use leverage in negotiations, maintaining only three months of cash reserves, and implementing a pay structure where CEO compensation is capped at 3x the lowest paid employee.Juliette reveals how their partnership with Redeemer Community Church led to the founding of RISE, a Christian high school where 80% of seats are reserved for first-generation college students from low-income families, with a mission of 100% four-year university admission.Key Highlights:Why Dayspring moved from downtown San Francisco to Bayview, defying conventional business wisdomThe theological imagination that shapes radical business practicesHow "prophetic emptiness" - leaving space for God to fill - birthed a transformative schoolThe power of church-business partnerships in community transformationPractical examples of living out gospel economics in the marketplaceWhy achievement and control can be more dangerous idols than moneyQuotable Moments:"I think a lot of times we call something impractical when it's largely left untried." - Juliette Chien"In order to love a place, you need to know it.
