Crédits Générique : Dr Alban "Sing Hallelujah" Titres écoutés dans l'émission : “Right Next Door", "Dust N' Bones", "Live And Let Die", "Don't Cry", "Perfect Crime", "You Ain't The First", "Bad Obsession", "Back Off Bitch", "Double Talkin' Jive", "November Rain", "The Garden", "Garden Of Eden", "Don't Damn Me", "Bad Apples", "Dead Horse", "Coma", "Civil War", "Years", "Yesterdays", " Knockin' On Heaven's Door", "Get In The Ring", "Shotgun Blues", "Breakdown", "Pretty Tied Up", "Locomotive", "So Fine", "Estranged", "You Could Be Mine", "My World", "Anything goes (démo)", "Welcome to the Jungle", "On in the Million". Drummer Matt Sorum (Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver, The Cult, Kings of Chaos) joins Ken and guest co-host Don Jamieson (That Metal Show) to talk about his amazing new book, "Double Talkin' Jive", the hilarious text exchange when Lemmy asked him to do a tour with Motorhead. why Axl sometimes had to delay GNR shows for hours, getting Iggy Pop to recite lyrics on an answering machine for Billie Joe Armstrong, idolizing Keith Moon for the wrong reasons, and his excellent new single "Judgement Day".

John's guest this week is Matt Sorum, drummer for Guns N' Roses, The Cult, Velvet Revolver, Kings Of Chaos, as well as numerous side projects. Matt and John discussed Matt's long and successful career, with lots of great stories including his audition for David Lee Roth in 1985, and Matt's newly released autobiography, “Double Talkin' Jive” available now.
Matt Sorum drummer for Guns 'N' Roses & The Cult, has a new book titled; Double Talkin' Jive (named after one of the GNR songs from the Use Your Illusion I album) and it has just been released. It's all about his life starting with his childhood through his current years. Matt talks about the CRAZY times while in Guns 'N' Roses, The Cult, Velvet Revolver along the story of how he met his wife, Ace. The book is a fantastic read and the interivew is even better.
Matt Sorum joined Guns N'Roses in time to play on their 1991 Use Your Illusion albums. At that point they were the biggest rock band in the world, and though Matt had experienced fame before with The Cult, stepping into Guns N'Roses was another level altogether. Combine the unresolved issues from his childhood with the sex, drugs and rock'n'roll that went hand in hand with being in the world's most dangerous rock band, and you had a fiery cocktail that took Matt down a very extreme path of excess. He writes about it all in his new memoir, Double Talkin' Jive. From his upbringing to his move to Hollywood in search of fame and fortune, from his time with Guns N'Roses, The Cult and Velvet Revolver to the lessons he's learned along the way, there's a lot to unpack, as he reveals in this episode.
In Double Talkin' Jive, legendary drummer Matt Sorum takes music lovers behind the scenes of a remarkable life in rock. Sorum, whose albums have sold tens of millions of copies around the world, provides an honest, engaging account of the highs and lows of superstardom. Sorum recounts his childhood years idolizing Ringo Starr and surviving an abusive stepfather. After leaving high school, Sorum sold pot to get by. Over time, his drug dealing escalated to smuggling large quantities of cocaine, a career that came to a halt following a dramatic shoot-out. Sorum fled his old life and settled in Hollywood, where he'd enjoy a rapid ascension to rock 'n' roll immortality. He caught his big break drumming for the Cult, and only a year later was invited to join Guns N' Roses, with whom he'd record two of rock's most iconic albums: Use Your Illusion 1 and 2. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy Award–winning Sorum opens up with forthright honesty, sharing anecdotes from his time touring the globe, battling drug and alcohol addiction, as well as working with Axl Rose, one of the greatest frontmen in rock, Slash and the rest of the GNR team. His career with the Cult, Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver, Motörhead, the Hollywood Vampires, and Kings of Chaos costars an ensemble of rock royalty, from Billy Idol to Steven Tyler, Billy F Gibbons, and Alice Cooper. Double Talkin' Jive goes beyond the clichés of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll, telling the very human story of what it takes to make it in music, and the toll stardom exacts from those who achieve success. Sorum invites fans to revel in the debauchery of the good times, but also paints a stark portrait of life after the party. Music fans of any generation will find value in the pages of this evocative, thoughtful, and candid autobiography. “Matt lights up rooms, corridors, clubs, theaters, arenas, and stadiums with the kind of infectious rock 'n' roll energy that is increasingly becoming obsolete. His dedication to his craft remains virtually peerless, and when the sticks are resting, you'll have to go a long way to find someone cooler in rock 'n' roll. Dive into these shenanigan-saturated pages immediately and find out for yourself!" —Lars Ulrich, Metallica “A colorfully dark look into the f * * * ed-up psyche of a legendary and badass drummer. I want to read it over and over.” —Jonas Åkerlund, director of Spun and Lords of Chaos Available in hardcover, e-book, and audiobook, including a signed limited-edition hardcover with vinyl audiobook bundle, narrated and performed by Matt Sorum Signed bundles available at rarebirdlit.com Trade hardcover, e-book, and audiobook formats wherever books are sold. In Double Talkin' Jive legendary drummer Matt Sorum takes music lovers behind the scenes of a remarkable life in rock. The Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame inductee & Grammy Award winning Sorum opens up with forthright honesty, sharing anecdotes from his time touring the globe, battling drug and alcohol addiction, as well as working with Axl Rose, one of the greatest frontmen in rock, Slash and the rest of the GNR team.
World famous drummer, Matt Sorum, defines “Rock n Roll Excess” and he has the wild stories to prove it. Matt takes us behind the scenes into what it was like touring with Guns N' Roses during their heyday. We get into the surreal back to back world tours during their massive success of double album "Use Your Illusion", along with the parties, the exhaustion and the aftermath. Though seemingly enough for one lifetime, Matt shares how the wild ride continued with GRAMMY winning band Velvet Revolver. We get a candid look the highs and lows through his years in the music industry, Matt's early days making ends meet smuggling cocaine across the border and how his audition with The Cult came just in time.To learn more about Matt, his new music, his charities and to order his book, “Double Talkin' Jive”, go to his social media: @MattSorum on Facebook, Instagram and TwitterTo pre order his book, "Double Talkin' Jive” go to: https://rarebirdlit.com/double-talkin-jive-hardcover-limited-edition-vinyl-signed-by-matt-sorum/For behind the scenes photos from these interviews and to send us questions for the Aftershow, join us on social media at: @OnTourPod on Facebook, Instagram and TwitterOn Tour is a production of Black Barrel Media and iHeartRadio, for more information about On Tour please visit our website at: BlackBarrelMedia.com Learn more about your ad-choices at https://www.iheartpodcastnetwork.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Take me down to the Paradise City where the grass is green and the Fire and Water Records guys talk about one of the most influential and controversial rock bands of all time, GUNS N' ROSES. Neil Daly welcomes his brother Ryan Daly as well as returning guests Chris Zegunis and Omar Uddin to discuss the history and legacy of GNR; from the slow-burn monstrous success of their debut album Appetite for Destruction, to their on- and off-stage problems with the law and basic social decorum; to the chart-topping MTV dominating twin Use Your Illusion albums to the band's dissolution in the face of Axl Roses' ever-growing megalomania; finally to the post-GNR success of Hall of Fame guitarist Slash, and the reunion tour that was never supposed to happen. Where does Guns N' Roses rank among the all-time great rock bands? Will they ever record another album together? Does this once all-powerful group even matter anymore? And what the hell happened to Tom Panarese after the Van Halen podcast?!! Tune in and find out! Listen to the FWR Guns N' Roses playlist on Spotify.
