On the 79th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, Brad Rusthoven from the Slamfest Podcast, review the 1988 album "GN'R Lies" by Guns N' Roses. In the late 1980's Guns N' Roses exploded on the hard rock scene. Their debut album, "Appetite For Destruction" would go on to become the biggest selling debut album of all time. GNR was led by one of a kind lead singer Axl Rose. Guitarists Slash and Izzy Stradlin formed an incredible dual guitar attack. Duff McKagan on bass and Steven Adler were a monster rhythm section. Previous to their debut album the band released a "live" EP called Live Like A Suicide which consisted of four songs, two of which were covers. They decided to add 4 acoustic songs to side two and call the album "GN'R Lies." The album made it to #2 on the US Billboard charts and eventually went 5 times platinum. It was produced by Guns N' Roses and Mike Clink. GN'R Lies continued GNR's unpredictable streak and made the fans clamor for more. Raw "live songs along with amazing and catchy acoustic songs, like "Patience" which went to #4 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Ep. 122 Guns N Roses - Appetite For Destruction - Review & Reaction!   When Appetite for Destruction dropped in 1987, it didn't exactly fly off the shelves...... At first. Released on July 21, 1987, "Appetite" didn't enter the top 50 on the Billboard album charts until Jan 16, 1988. Shortly after this, it exploded like a Molotov cocktail into a music scene that had grown too comfortable with glam metal's glossy sheen. Guns N' Roses—raw, dangerous, and oozing attitude—brought back the grit and grime of rock ‘n' roll. This debut wasn't just an album; it was a statement. With Axl Rose's snarling vocals, Slash's bluesy, melodic solos, and a rhythm section that swung like a wrecking ball, Appetite redefined hard rock for a generation. Appetite for Destruction went on to become the best-selling debut album of all time in the U.S. It influenced countless bands in the late '80s and '90s, from grunge (which appreciated GNR's authenticity over glam's gloss) to hard rock and even punk revival scenes. The band's mix of punk energy, bluesy riffing, and metal aggression helped bridge the gap between classic rock and modern hard rock, keeping the genre alive during a time when synth-pop and polished hair metal were dominating.

Tom Bayles is Senior Environmental Reporter at WGCU. A lifelong Florida journalist, Tom has covered stories in 67 counties, including plenty of hurricanes. Tom covers climate change, biodiversity, water quality and quantity issues, Everglades restoration efforts, endangered and invasive species, beach and coastal issues, and the intersections of global warming and the economy, politics, religion, society, and science. In the minds of many rock fans, Duff McKagan will forever be known first and foremost as the bassist for Guns N' Roses. The band's white-hot reign in the late '80s through the early '90s is the stuff of hedonistic, hard rock legend. And for anyone interested in reading a detailed account of that wild ride, check out Duff's memoir, “It's So Easy and Other Lies.” After turning 30, Duff got sober, eventually left GNR, and then went on to play stints in Alice In Chains and Jane's Addiction—and he helped form the supergroup, Velvet Revolver. In 2016, he rejoined Guns N' Roses following their induction into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Outside of his contributions to big name rock bands, Duff has also been releasing solo material since the early '90s. His latest album, Lighthouse, signals a new musical direction for Duff—one that focuses on reflective, personal lyrics and stripped-down rootsy-rock. On today's episode Leah Rose talks to Duff McKagan about his decision to leave the heroin-infested punk rock scene in his hometown of Seattle for LA. In February, the first lawsuit against Tesla for a crash involving its driver-assistance system, Autopilot, will go to trial. The slew of trials set to follow will be a costly fight that the company's chief executive, Elon Musk, has vowed to take on in court. When Tesla released its Autopilot feature in October 2015, Musk touted the feature as “probably better” than a human driver. The reality, however, has proved different: On average, there is at least one Autopilot-related crash in the United States every day.While several of these accidents will feature in the upcoming trials, another camp of Tesla users who have fallen victim to Autopilot crashes are unwilling to take a negative stance because of their love for the brand.
