Turn your amps to 11, Void! We're celebrating our 200th episode (we're pretty sure) with the most hard-rock movie of all time, "This is Spinal Tap!" It's the rockumentary that introduced us to: Big Bottoms, Hell Hole, Sex Farm, Rock N' Roll Creation (with pods), and STONEHENGE!!!!! Without this movie, we would all be wondering who they were, and what they were doing, but their legend lives on in the vinyl grooves of music history. Did you know that Billy Crystal and Dana Carvey worked as mimes together? Or that Anjelica Huston crafted an 18 inch Stonehenge? Neither did we!!! Come along for the ride, but if they ask if you're a drummer, don't take the gig!

The Beatles' sojourn in the St. Pauli district of Hamburg during the early 1960s is part of music legend. As Julia Sneeringer reveals in A Social History of Early Rock ‘n' Roll in Germany: Hamburg from Burlesque to The Beatles, 1956-69 (Bloomsbury, 2018), though, this was just the most famous episode in the neighborhood's momentous engagement with rock ‘n' roll during that period, one of importance not just to music history but to the history of modern Germany. Located as it was outside the walls of the medieval city, St. Pauli was known for centuries as the entertainment quarter of Hamburg. The neighborhood had only recently recovered from the hardships of the postwar era when German club owners began booking English bands to play the new style of music that had just been introduced in Europe. The performances quickly proved a hit among teenage Germans, who flocked to out-of-the-way venues to watch the acts perform. As Sneeringer details, the encounters changed everyone involved, giving the musicians the chance to hone their skills and develop their style while through their participation the young men and women in the audience pushed against the conservative social boundaries imposed on them by their families and their society. To continue the cop movie themed week, Tom, Gil & I highlight the ROBOCOP trilogy, both TV shows & its remake.   We also go more into the overall focus on the characters' journeys and villainous OCP corporation while mentioning the Robodoc documentary.   TALKING POINTS INCLUDE: *How do the movies & comic book plots basically mix a Batman type city with Lethal Weapon cops & Skynet type computer bases? *Could the Terminator Vs. Movie had actually been made initially? *Did anyone love the '90s TV show Rock N' Roll soundtrack? *How come no one remembers the original unmade remake (which was arguably very imaginative)? *Are some of the violent comedic bits also homages to Death Race 2000? *How wild how the studios didn't get the marketing jokes in the films themselves. *Why did MGM keep making merchandise meant to appeal to kids despite it not being for them? *Is the new ROGUE CITY videogame the only agreed upon sequel or are there still many Part 2 & Prime Directives defenders? *Some praise for the Arrow Blu-Ray contributing to the original film's party movie night nature *Some Phil Tippett backstory as well according ot the latest Disney Plus ILM documentary show *Discussing the unmade Robocoop Vs. Predator comic book project and Robocop's appearance on WCW *We sum up how so many generations saw it before they were old enough to actually see it *Why does the corporation always rely on local crooks to do their dirty work? *Why were crowds okay with this versus other Verhoeven's typical OTT films? *Can you introduce the cheesy '90s show for teens not ready to watch the movies without cringing yourself? *Can you enjoy the 2014 rehash in a Judge Dredd/Training Day way? *Is a Robocop Anime Anthology more feasible these days? *Cam also shares a cool story he heard about Peter Weller's directing career from his peers.

From there, we dive in on some Classic Rock selections that he wrote the reviews for, specifically albums from Genesis, Steve Winwood, Toto, Night Ranger, Alice Cooper, among others. Ever dreamed of jamming with rock legends like Ringo Starr, Gene Simmons, or Alice Cooper? David Fishof — legendary music producer, sports agent, and founder of Rock ‘n' Roll Fantasy Camp has been making those dreams come true for 25 years and counting. On this episode of The Debbie Nigro Show, it was an absolute blast welcoming David to share his wild ride from managing NFL stars to organizing epic jam sessions for everyday rockers. (And yes, he created Ringo's All-Starr Band!) “It's my fantasy to change people's lives through the power of music,” David said. And wow, he sure is doing just that. From high-powered lawyers to high school band alumni, campers come from all walks of life to fulfill their rock and roll dreams — and leave transformed. As David shared: “Joe Perry once told a camper, ‘You're not a lawyer who plays guitar. You're a guitarist who practices law to pay for his guitars.'” You can get a good glimpse inside David's world and his Rock ‘n Roll Fantasy Camp by watching the documentary ‘Rock Camp' free on Amazon Prime. You'll see 4 rock ‘n' rollers from various walks of life getting a once in a lifetime chance to jam with their heroes and 30+ legendary musicians who've been a part of it all.  New in 2025: David's expanding the current Rock ‘n Roll Fantasy Camp experience with songwriting camps led by hitmakers like Linda Perry (“What's Up”), plus don't miss the upcoming camps in Phoenix and Fort Lauderdale featuring Alice Cooper, Rob Halford, and members of the Billy Joel Band and many more. What's up, dudes? I've got Ken Kessler from Sounds of Christmas and Scott Leopold from Holly Jolly X'masu here to talk the wonky version of “A Christmas Carol!” Yes, it's “Scrooge's Rock 'N' Roll Christmas” starring Jack Elam and ‘60s/‘70s musical acts!Airing in 1984, the special shows Ebenezer Scrooge in his counting house. Enigmatically, a young girl goes through an unseen time slip à la the Real Ghostbusters and winds up in his place. Subsequently, she attempts to enliven his Christmas spirit with a magical snowglobe that grants wishes. Her wish: teach Scrooge about Three Dog Night. The rest of the show is the duo arguing about Christmas and rock and roll, and watching various bands and singers. Everyone from Merrilee Rush to Paul Revere & the Raiders show up and sing Christmas songs and carols. Mary MacGregor and Mike Love sing “Do You Hear What I Hear?” while the Association sings “Sleigh Ride.” The acts change Scrooge's tune, and all's well that ends well.Bobby Goldsboro? Got him. Mike Love? Much maligned, but he's there too. Bridget? …Bridget?!?! So hop on your sleigh. David Zahl is the director of Mockingbird Ministries and editor-in-chief of the Mocking Bird website. Born in New York City and brought up elsewhere, David graduated from Georgetown University in 2001, and then worked for several years as a youth minister in New England. In 2007 he founded Mockingbird in NYC. We talk about his latest book The Big Relief:the urgency of grace for a worn-out world. Today David and his wife Cate reside in Charlottesville, VA with their three boys, where David also serves on the staff of Christ Episcopal Church. He is also the author of A Mess of Help: From the Crucified Soul of Rock N' Roll and co-author of Law and Gospel: A Theology for Sinners (and Saints). His book, Seculosity: How Career, Parenting, Technlogy, Food, Politics, and Romance Became Our New Religion and What To Do About It, appeared in 2019 from Fortress Press. Even after all these years, he's still mourning the end of Calvin and Hobbes (and hoping that Morrissey and Marr will bury the hatchet). His favorite theologian is probably a cross between Johnny Cash, Flannery O'Connor and his brother Simeon.

This week we celebrate bands that can re-imagine their songs with acoustic instruments and still rock! We are pulling the plug… and gasping for air… guitars! Electric artists have been playing acoustically since the beginning of recorded music. Most songwriters start the process with an acoustic instrument and capturing the sound of a song on just wire and wood has a vulnerable, human feel to it. What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss the FORGOTTEN. Mtv started a series in 1989 called “unplugged”, and almost every mainstream relevant act started producing acoustic albums or versions of their songs. This week we listen to some artist that you may have never considered as having acoustic interpretations of their songs.Songs this week include:The Gems – “Like A Phoenix (Acoustic Version)” from Phoenix (2024)Cicadstone – “Burn Your Name (Acoustic)” from Future Echoes (Acoustic EP) (2024)Dokken – “In My Dreams” from One Live Night (1996) Rise Against – “Swing Life Away” from Punk Goes Acoustic (2003)Twelve Foot Ninja – “Kingdom (Acoustic)” from Mutant Dreams And Face Transplants: An Acoustic Experience (2024)Joey Eppard – “Dregs” from Joey Eppard Live In Concert (2013)Megadeth – “Symphony Of Destruction (Acoustic Live)” from Unplugged In Boston (Live 2001) (2001)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://x.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it: InObscuria StoreCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

In 1985, David Lee Roth was out and Sammy Hagar was in. One of the biggest lead singer shakeups in music history led to some of the biggest sales of Van Halen's career. It also led to more drama, to Lamborghinis and Ferraris racing through the streets of Los Angeles, to military assault vehicles storming Beverly Hills, to crazed fans and loaded guns – and at the middle of it all, a modern-day warrior, a man with a code, trying to orchestrate his own survival.
