Lisa Avelleyra is the author of the book "Get Me to The Abbey," a memoir about her time in treatment for alcoholism at an abbey turned residential treatment center. After several attempts to stop drinking for 40 years, Lisa set out on a mission to die a death by alcohol. She was taken to a week's stay in the hospital, and then lead to treatment at the abbey which in turn started off Lisa's journey in sobriety. While in treatment, Lisa found her passion for books flowing back into her life. In this episode, we discuss women in leadership. Specifically women in leadership positions in the workforce. We cover the history of women in the workforce, particularly in the US, including some of the first women in CEO positions. Then we consider the role that the media plays in perpetuating and breaking stereotypes of women in positions of leadership. We address words and terms that are often used to describe female leaders in the workplace, how they differ from those used to describe male leaders, and why this matters. Rae Walker is a Singer/Songwriter and Performer originally from the Bronx, NY.
