We don't normally play promos on Succotash so instead I listened to a couple episodes from early on in the show's run and took a clip from there, So: Our clip is from Cosmic Love's very first episode.  I thought it might be nice to hear what the "show" might have typically sounded like before the oncoming calamity… SmoshCastOn SmoshCast's episode 18 - "Olivia's Bald Spot & How Defy Forced Us To Be Friends", Courtney, Olivia, and Mari opened up about their struggles with stress and the pressure of being perfect, feeling replaceable on Smosh, and being pitted against each other at Defy. Our clip is about that expendable feeling and how it was exacerbated by Defy Media's admitting as much. Chances are, he's a part of one of your favorite movies. From the episode that dropped August 6th of this year, Jeff joins Jesse Thorn to talk about his new film, The Mountain, his iconic past roles and his latest role as a new father. Our clip has to do with the inner life of the character Mr. Goldblum is portraying in The Mountain as well as the bits about becoming a new father… because I happen to find that very relatable…  The Underculture with James Adomian James Adomian and friends perform a surreal vision of our times populated by heroes and hucksters. The episode from July 25th of this year features Paul Giamatti (Adomian) & Quincy Jones (guest Jerry Minor). Giamatti has been trying to get his podcast off the ground for a while now and James has an exclusive copy of the 44th take of the pilot episode with special guest Quincy Jones! Plus the world premiere of the trailer for Paul Giamatti's upcoming film about the ancient Greek myth of Sisyphus! And James chats with the very funny and talented Jerry Minor (Historical Roasts)! In the clip we're featuring Quincy Jones dishes on some famous people.  The Future History of the British Isles A dark comedy sketch show, The Future History of the British Isles, takes a sideways glance at the apocalypse, fake news and mass-ignorance-hysteria. The end is nigh, so dig a hole. Our clip is from their Epi2, which dropped April 5, 2019 — here's the blurb on the 'sode: "Once government intelligence was able to link green protestors with anti-west terror cells based in Scotland, all credible opposition to hydraulic fracturing, hydrofracturing, hydrofracking, fracking, was defeated, leaving the entire rural perimeter of Nottinghamshire primed for development."  Dylan Brody's Neighbor's Couch RevisitedThe tale of how a joke between friends on Twitter turned into an unexpectedly successful podcast continues… The guest with host Darren Staley and show namesake Dylan Brody is comedian/actor/raconteur Robert Wuhl, where they chat about his career in stand-up comedy, his tv game show acumen, his apprehension about social media, Good Morning Vietnam, music in film, Cobb, HBO's Arli$$, and Assume the Position with Mr. Wuhl. Plus, a very funny exchange between Robert and Dylan regarding Dylanís poor marketing skills. In our clip, Wuhl remembers writing jokes for Rodney Dangerfield and the topic of "Comedic Responsiblity" is discussed.  WRAP-UP   And there it is! THE CLIPS Live From The Poundstone InstituteWe start with a bit of a brand new soundcast from an old friend of mine. This comes from Epi1 of Live from the Poundstone Institute, hosted by comedian Paula Poundstone. She’s appeared a lot on A Prairie Home Companion and NPR’s Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me, but now she’s got her own show for NPR. I recently reviewed it for Splitsider.com and it’s a pretty entertaining romp in front of a live studio audience. It’s pretty short – the debut episode runs just a smidge over a half hour – and she crams in a bunch of short visits from smart people like scientists and professors as well as celebrities. In this clip, she’s going deep on the sexual proclivities of the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Juice In The MorningOur next offering is from our Associate Producer Tyson Saner’s fresh crop of soundcast clips. It’s from Juice in the Morning. The host is Justin “Juice” Kelly and on the homesite for this show he says, “I do this show as a hobby but maybe one day it will be more than that!” He’s got more than 60 episodes under his belt at this point, so he’s well on his way. This clip is from Episode 65 and Juice is talking to frequent guest Thomas Smith, who may also be the show’s producer from what Tyson could find out. Podcast for LaundryThere’s another brand newish soundcast – just a few episodes in – called Podcast for Laundry — I am beginning to think my campaign to change the term podcast to soundcast is maybe not catching on as fast as I was hoping but I’m going to keep on it mainly because I think it annoys people — but Podcast for Laundry is a show hosted by comedian Brett Davis on the Forever Dog Network. Brett is a winner of the Andy Kaufman Award and, like Andy, Brett often performs as one of a number of characters he’s created. This podcast is a great example. It is recorded in a laundromat and the guests don’t seem to be very happy to be there. His first guest is Tom Sharpling, host of The Best Show, and he’s got some unpleasant feedback for Brett. And God Created PodcastSoundcasting continues to get more and more “niche-y”. Not Nietzsche, although that may be true as well. And it’s making for really interesting content, which is good. The medium can probably only sustain so many pop culture-oriented shows with a bunch of dudes shouting at each other. Tyson scooped up a clip’s worth of a new entry called And God Created Podcast. So new that there’s only one episode up on SoundCloud so far. It features Stephen Peltier, Cassandra Cardenes, Erika Curry and Mickey Broussard, and although the hosts seem to have religion in their childhoods, they’re not really into it as adults. They’ve decided to revisit the stories in the Bible without religious bashing but really just checking out the stories as stories. In Poor TasteWe got a clip submission from Eric Driscoll and Sean Kendle, hosts of the In Poor Taste soundcast, who used our direct upload link through Hightail.com. Full disclosure, I had a DM interchange with Sean on Twitter last week about a bunch of stuff and one thing was this clip. Even though we ask that the clips run 3 to 5 minutes – and believe me, five minutes can be a LONG time in Soundcastland – he said the best they could do was 6 minutes. Well, gents, after listening to it I thought of a couple of cuts to make everything flow a little smoother. Apologies to your comedy timing sensibilities if this cut pisses you off, but know that I did it with the best of intentions. Total running time: 3 minutes and 52 seconds. Your Mom's HouseWe have a clip from a show that been around for awhile, over 400 episodes to be exact. And although we clipped the solo soundcast from one of the co-hosts back in Succotash Epi149 (the That’s Deep Bro show hosted by comic Christina Pazsitzky), this is the first chance we’ve had to clip Your Mom’s House with Christina and her husband, comedian Tom Segura. (Tom also host HIS own soundcast, called Charge It To The Game.) Now we finally get to play a snippet from Your Mom’s House, from recent Epi403 with no guest, just Tom and Christina, talking about being sick and the danger of golf carts. Gone Riffin'We wrap up the clip portion of this epi with one that Tyson grabbed us from another newbiecast called Gone Riffin’ on the Feral Audio Network. Hosted by Rich Fulcher and Abed Geith, they’re about seven 'sodes in and the clip we have is from Epi2. You may recognize Abed as “The Real Abed” from the Harmontown soundcast and Rich is a comedian, writer, and improvisor, whose been on Snuff Box, Drunk History, and The Mighty Boosh. I Am Rapaport: Stereo PodcastI caught actor Michael Rapaport on WTF with Marc Maron this past week. You might know him from his work – he’s been in over 60 movies and TV projects, starting with Zebrahead through last year’s Little Boy movie. He had a great arc on the second-to-last season of TV’s Justified, too. He and his best friend, Gerald Moody, kick out fresh episodes of the I Am Rapaport: Stereo Podcast every week, or maybe it’s twice a week. Rap and G, as they call each other, shoot from the hip on a variety of topics. I actually met Michael years ago, when I used to hang out at the Improv in LA, because he did, too – his sister’s step-father was one of the owners. Anyone, he always seemed a decent guy and I like what he has to say on his p’cast. A word of warning if you don’t like profanity — Rap and G speak the language of the streets. Oh, and they also take a certain measure of pride in the fact that they don’t fact-check their spew. SpontaneanationTyson grabbed us a clip from Epi49 of Spontaneanation, the latest podcast from the brain of one of the hardest-working men in podcasting, Paul F. Tompkins. It’s a completely improvised show, with a rotating cast of guest friends and performers. On the episode this clip is from, Paul’s guests are Cameron Esposito, Shulie Cowen, Brandon Johnson, and Chris Tallman. I’m a big fan of Paul F. but then, who isn’t? Potato BureauOne of our upload savvy listeners is Corky Kneivel, he of the Potato Bureau podcast. This week he shot us a scene clipped from their Epi2, featuring Court Hansen as the guy getting his dishes back, Molly Doan as “Darren” (the screw up), Corky's playing Darren’s brother, with Michelle Petro is the security guard who — spoiler alert — gets killed. The way the Potato Bureau "gimmick" works is that the scenes are somehow inspired by each episode's musical guest, which is where the sketch in this clip sprang from…) Loud & ObnoxiousAnother clip that was uploaded directly to us this episode comes from the crew over at Loud & Obnoxious — Korey H., D-Brew, Producer Dave, and Halfpint. First off, how can you NOT listen to a clip featuring someone named Halfpint, right? They’re part of the MenRule Network. Here’s their description of their show that’s up on iTunes: “They are four guys that don't apologize for speaking the truth. Each week they discuss movies, news stories, beer, politics, and sports. They also have their intern, Halfpint, do things that he is very uncomfortable with including karaoke and talking to girls.” Sketch Comedy Podcast ShowTyson clipped us something from a recent epi of the Sketch Comedy Podcast Show, which is about as descriptive a title as you can get in a podcast title. Also maybe a bit misleading, as the description for the show says it’s “Lightly scripted and improvised.” The hosts are Alisha Holland and Stuart Rice and the show booms out of Portland, Oregon. ObsessedThis next clip was ripped from the Tweetsack, having been dropped in there by Sarah Meyer who writes “I really enjoy your podcast reviews and I hope it’s not taking a liberty, but I’d LOVE it if you could take a listen to a comedy podcast I co-produce — 'Obsessed with Joseph Scrimshaw.'" It’s over on the on the Feral Audio network. The title is a little deceptive because it isn’t a show about an obsession with Joseph Scrimshaw — he’s the host and he talks to guests about their obsessions. In this case, the obsession is podcasts and the guest is Dustin Marshall, the founder and maniac behind the Feral Audio network, host to such shows as Harmontown, The Duncan Trussell Family Hour and Obsessed with Joseph Scrimshaw. Also, this is Joseph’s 100th episode of Obsessed, so congratulations!  Russell & MudtoothTyson clipped us off a hunk of the Russell & Mudtooth Show from the Radio Random Network. It features Russell Devlin McLain (or #RDM, as he’s socially mediatroducing himself these days), and Mudtooth. To me, “Mudtooth” is WAY more interesting a name than hashtag-anything, but maybe that's just me. This show drops every Friday and #RDM, who is a musician, tears up the country music scene, music in general, as well as sports, current events, etc., etc. with his pal Mudtooth. In this sample of the show, Mudtooth goes off on a tear about the most recent Oscars. Cave Crew RadioIn case you haven’t figured it out on your own, podcasters are not the only ones who can upload their clips to the show. If you are a LISTENER to a comedy podcast that you enjoy, you are cordially welcome to upload a clip, too! That’s exactly what Stuart Ramsden did recently when he uploaded us a chunk of Cave Crew Radio, which is great. Because who knows how long it have taken us to discover the hosts, DK and Big B on our own? And the show has been going for a tad over a year. (So way to take the inish, Stuart!) In this clip the talk is about Valentines and giving stuff up for Lent. Local Ass BitchesOur friend Davian Dent — host of the soon-to-be-defunct The Bitter Sound podcast and co-host of The Strange Times podcast — has sent in a promo of a show he enjoys: Local Ass Bitches, a comedy podcast I’d not heard before. Davian must really like the show, because he knows I’m not a fan of playing promos. He uploaded it directly to us via out Hightail link and he says, “Four best friends from Chicago talk politics, sex, dating and everything in between!  Born, raised and living on the NW Side – Lisa, Manny, Nora and Rosa are the epitome of Local Ass Bitches, a term coined by one of their comedic favorites, Kevin Hart, which now has its own definition in the urban dictionary. Getting Doug with HighTyson grabbed a hunk from the audio version of Doug Benson's LIVE videocast,  Getting Doug With High. Every episode he finds interesting people and celebrities and smokes it out with them while talking about issues of the day. In this clip he’s with legendary stoner Tommy Chong of Cheech & Chong and comedian Kyle Kinane. NSF WatercoolersThis next clip is from a show called NSF Watercoolers (or Not Safe For Watercoolers). Apologies. I have no idea who the people are on this show. I could find nothing on the several websites for the show which I looked at, which summons forth one of my pet peeves in podcasting – my PPPs, if you will: How hard is it to put out a little information on your homesite? However, the blurb on their site says “All the Film, TV, Music, and Pop Culture info you need to attack that next watercooler moment with confidence.” Down With Joe DerosaOne of the newest podcasts by a comedian is Down With Joe Derosa, and he brings a very simple straight-forward show concept with him: One guest, one topic. Comedian Ari Shaffir usually has fellow comics on with him to talk about all sorts of topics. For instance, in his Epi147, entitled “Closet Case” he has Kevin Meaney on and one of the central points of their conversation is having Kevin talk about what it was like to come out of the closet at the age of 50. In this clip, they’re covering some ground about how he didn’t seem to have much motivation towards comedy or much else in his teen years. Ice-T Final LevelLast week we got a note in the Tweetsack suggesting we give a listen to Ice-T's new podcast, Final Level. The father of gangsta rap has conquered music, movies, TV and now, along with co-host Mick Benzo, has entered the podcasting arena. Welcome, Ice-T. Glad to have you aboard. Not sure what he’s doing constitutes a comedy podcast but when Ice-T asks you to play a clip, you play a mutha fuckin’ clip. Film FandangoI featured a clip from Do The Right Thing, the English panel show, a couple of episodes ago, on the recommendation of our friend @Good_Podcasts, who then suggested that we give a listen to Film Fandango, which supposedly features Rachel Ward from Do The Right Thing, along with David Reed and Marek Larwood. They talk about movies, as you can tell by the title but, oddly, in the clip we grabbed from Epi118, Rachel Ward doesn’t seem to be part of the mix… NetHeadsWill Wilkins is the technical wizard who keeps Smodcast Internet Radio running smoothly. And he also co-hosts a live show on the SModcast Internet Radio called NetHeads with Trent Hunsaker. I’ve met Will at last year’s Stitcher Awards because he’s located in the Bay Area so he shows up to pick up any awards the SModcast wins there. He was at THIS year’s awards, too, sporting a pair of Google Glasses. This clip is from a segment of their recent "Best Of, Really?" episode that features regular listener/contributor "Francis" whose speciality is Golden Age Comic books. Squarehead KidsOur next clip comes from The Squarehead Kids, a big ol’ barrel full of podcast hosts including Frank, Jay, Big Daddy Deck, Little Ricky and the Good Doctor, PLUS their assorted guests. It’s a bit of a clusterchat but they manage to keep their free-ranging conversation more or less together… That’s it. We’re done.
