EP 181 Slam Dunk 2025 Special   EP181 is Setting The Tone's Slam Dunk Special, the episode is broken down into my thoughts on this year's event and why you should consider attending Slam Dunk in 2026 As well brining you interviews from Defects, Grey Wind and New Found Glory.   Slam Dunk presented its 19th addition of what has become somewhat of a tradition for fans of alternative music, Slam Dunk currently takes place the last bank holiday in May across two separate days in the south and the north of the uk.   With 5 stages jam packed full of your different artists and bands across the attentive scene there really is something that will appeal to Somone's musical tastebuds   For those who may not be as familiar with the festival lets drill down, to give you an idea of what you can expect to see, this year's line-up had 58 bands.   four headliners A Day to remember making their first appearance playing on main stage west, Electric callboy on main stage east legends Alkaline trio closing the monster energy stage and Hot milk over on the kerrang stage.   Everything from bands/artists making their first to bands making their 11th And Legends like New Found Glory, Zebrahead, Alkaline Trio. To festival debuts for grew wind as I have already stated I feel Slam Dunk offers something for everyone's taste.   When does the festival start well if you would like make a day out of it then gates open at 11am and first bands usually start about 40 mins after gates open, so get to the festival early.     Helpful tips   Parking onsite, make sure you buy your parking in advance as traditionally they are not on sale on the day of the festival Transport methods Train-check with National Rail Coach packages can be purchase from see tickets in advance         So why should you go, well simply this it's a day festival that is very competitive in price and what it offers. people also have the chance to see as many bands in one day and not worry that they have to pick a day out of say a 3-day festival, so if anyone does struggle with getting to festivals and shows Slam dunk may just be the event for you.   As well as being the first alternative festival to kick off the summer it's a great chance to catch up with friends and start the summer.     This is a festival that started from humble beginnings and has continued to grow year and year out and just get better and better. So, what is holding you back and when should you if you have not already made your appearance at the festival well personally, I think next year is as good as any time.   2026 marks the festival 20th Year which is something that no doubt the organisers and people connected with the festival are aware of and are no doubt working on something very special There are no announcements as to who what the weekend will like yet, but if I had to take an educated guess, I would say expect to see some names from the very early days of the festival and to some festival favourites to some new names   It's going to be a very exciting 12 months to see how slam dunk marks their 20th and how they plan to do it because speaking only on the Hatfield site I think there is a little bit of space to play around with different ideas and layouts, I would expect some great merchandise and a very special weekend. As well as the uk addition Slam dunk has expanded into Europe which offers fans from Europe and even those who may wish to go to Europe the chance to catch slightly different lineups to the UK     Thank you, Slam Dunk and Alex, for the invite.

He is of Polish Jewish and Russian Jewish descent.Rapaport moved to Los Angeles to try stand-up comedy following high school graduation (which came after a series of expulsions), but he never lost, forgot or deserted his New York roots. It's embedded in his work and is a major part of his low-keyed charm and ongoing appeal. His early idols were also New Yorkers (Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, etc.).Within a short amount of time Michael moved from the live comedy stage to working in front of a camera. The two developed an immediate rapport. A guest spot on the TV series China Beach (1988) led to a starring role in the quirky interracial indie Zebrahead (1992), which clinched it for him. This, in turn, led to a string of standout parts in films, such as Christian Slater's pal in True Romance (1993), an edgy collegiate-turned-skinhead in Higher Learning (1995) and a sympathetic none-too-bright boxer in Woody Allen's Mighty Aphrodite (1995), all enabling him to build up a higher profile. In later years, Michael managed to show his ease at offbeat comedy, demonstrating a kid-like, goofy charm as Lisa Kudrow's cop boyfriend for a few episodes on Friends (1994) and as teacher Danny Hanson on Boston Public (2000).He later formed his own production company, Release Entertainment, in search of that one big breakout role that could nab top stardom for him. In later years, his offbeat character leads included an inducted mafioso in Kiss Toledo Goodbye (1999); a hit man in the action comedy A Good Night to Die (2003); a comic book fanatic in the sci-fi comedy Special (2006); a trouble-making buddy in crime drama Inside Out (2011); a man helping out his former gangster neighbor in the dramedy Once Upon a Time in Queens (2013); and a married guy trying to get his mojo back in the comedy My Man Is a Loser (2014). For the most part, however, he served extremely well in support of other prominent stars with weird-to-bizarre featured roles for Woody Allen in his crime comedy Small Time Crooks (2000); for Arnold Schwarzenegger in the futuristic actioneer The 6th Day (2000); for Will Smith in the romantic /comedy Hitch (2005); for Ray Romano and Kevin James in the comedy crimer Grilled (2006); for Billy Bob Thornton in the action comedy The Baytown Outlaws (2012); for Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy in the crime comedy The Heat (2013); and for Tom Hanks in the biopic Sully (2016).Rapaport married writer Nicole Beatty in 2000 and divorced seven years later after having two children. In 2016, he married actress Kebe Dunn.#RapaportsReality #MichaelRapaport #KebeRapaport #RealityTV #PodcastLife #iHeartPodcasts #DBPodcasts #ComedyGold #ActingLegend #TVAddicts #PopCultureJunkies #BravoTV #WatchWhatHappensLive #RealityTVLovers #PodcastersOfYouTube #EntertainmentNews #CelebrityInterviewsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/i-am-refocused-radio--2671113/support.

Metal-heads know that Kyle Shutt is a shredder. It's clear in his band, The Sword's music. Even non-metal-heads that played Guitar Hero knows that he can shred, and have likely played along to his guitar licks on "Freya." But Kyle also has ska roots. At age 15, he played trombone in the Hobbs, New Mexico Christian ska band Ten Betty Zane. When he was 17, he took a 24 greyhound bus ride to see Blue Meanies play a free show in Chicago. And in Austin, he was part of the Blue Meanies (And MU330) street team. On Oct 20, 2022, Kyle's two decade-long group, The Sword, broke up. For his first post-Sword interview, he did what all non-ska bands should do; he chatted about ska with us. Listen as we discuss Kyle's ska roots, break down the hundreds of metal subgenres, talk about meeting Anthony Bourdain during the No Reservations Austin episode, and discuss how he turned Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon into DOOM side of the Moon. We talk about how the metal scene differs from the ska and punk scenes, dish about Nickelback, Dead Milkmen, Zebrahead and Lit, he tells us about singing about poop with his daughter on the Dirty Restaurant of Death side project, and Kyle tells us what it was like to invent an entirely new metal subgenre: Shitgrind.  Support the show

The Matches played catchy pop-punk in the 2000s, a time when catchy pop-punk bands could be top 40 pop stars. They worked their asses off, were courted by major labels, but never reached pop stardom. Though the band did mean a lot to a ton of people. They built community around their music and made sincere connections with their fans. And they have ska roots. The band formed in 1997 as The Locals. Inspired by Rancid, they originally played a blend of punk rock and ska-punk. They also looked up to fellow east bay band Link 80. And in fact, even went to high school with Link 80's original guitarist Matt Bettinelli-Olpin. The Locals even played Link 80s final show! Today we talk to The Matches' lead singer/guitarist Shawn Harris about the bands roots and dig into several stories throughout the band's career. We discuss their years building a scene at East Bay venue iMusicast, where bands like My Chemical Romance, Zebrahead and RX Bandits would play on tour. We also talk about The Matches first major tour--which was with Reel Big Fish. Shawn tells us about two mind-blowing shows from that tour. We also talk about why Gilman would never book the band, what is was like working with some famous producers (Tim Armstrong, John Feldmann), how The Locals ended up touring in Bosnia while they were still in high school, and Shawn talks a bit about his new life as a children's book cartoonist, book author and Dave Eggers collaborator. Shawn even tells us about the time he sneaked a peak into Dave's CD collection to see what kind of music he listened to.  And it was exactly the bands you think it was!  Support the show

Mike was a busy drummer before the pandemic. Touring the world with Death By Stereo or the legendary Adolescents, he was barely home so when the all virus thing happened he had to learn to stay home for a while. But Mike is not gonna let a pandemic shutting his creativity down and that's why he started another venture with his friends from Zebrahead and together they made a new supergroup: Fear No Empire, produced by none other than Paul Miner, which we had the pleasure to have on the show in December. Also, when he's not busy drumming, Mike is running a really cool clothing brand promoting his punk values. Learn to forget, that's the name of his brand, has some of the coolest shirts so if you need a new outfit for the summer, look no further. What we liked about Mike is that he's straightforward and speaks his mind. It's all being true to yourself and doing the right thing for yourself and your community. It doesn't mean you can't be open to new directions and new experiences, on the contrary. He comes from the punk scene of the OC and that's where he became who he is now but that's also why he's allowing himself to conduct new challenges with the same passion every time. Together, we're starting a conversation about saving Rock N' Roll in the City of Angels. Casually talking from the Sunset Strip, we are launching a movement with our collective called Team Nowhere and we are calling artists & fans to unite. If you are in a band, or if you're a photographer, a developer, a hairstylist, whatever your craft... In other words, if you really want to help to put Rock music back on the map for the ten upcoming years... well let's build a community together, and let's plan concrete actions to make a positive shift in our industry. Rock isn't dead, the Sunset strip isn't dead.
